Bethenny Frankel’s SkinnyGirl Jeans Strongly Favor Actual Skinny Girls; Plus #RHONY Filming News

September 10, 2018 by tamaratattles 61 Comments

I’m under the weather today and have some homemade chicken soup on the stove hoping it will fix whatever my problem is. Meanwhile a couple of things are going on with Bethenny Frankel and the first one is quite controversial.

Today her SkinnyGirl line of jeans came out. As someone who is not skinny and hates skinny jeans on anyone other that Steven Tyler, I can’t fathom why she bothered to make these jeans in any size above four in the first place. But she did. Because fat chicks need skinny girl jeans too, I suppose. In theory.

But what fat girls do not need is to pay nearly twice as much of the same stupid jeans. This is my opinion and one Bethenny doesn’t agree with. So she has priced the plus sized jeans at nearly double the price. I’m going to guess that clothing is not a line that Bethenny needs to expand her. Anorexic women in NYC do not wear the same style of jeans that fat chicks in Atlanta wear. We probably couldn’t get our big fat feet through the skinny foot hole.

UPDATED: Apparently, it was an error on the website and the fat jeans should have been $10 more than the skinny jeans. Perhaps someone read a 7 as a 1. I still don’t think it should be legal to make plus sized clothes more expensive. Yet, it happens all the time.

I predict that once the plus sized jeans do not sell, that the prices will continually be drastically sliced and the plus size jeans still will not sell.

I thought Bethenny was smarted than this.

In other news, Bethenny has been pushing herself to get out and keep pushing through lately. She’s been going to yoga and going waterskiing, and enjoying the beach with Bryn.

And she is slowly starting to film with RHONY. My sources say that primary filming has not started yet but there are a few things being filmed while the story arcs are hashed out. Thus Tinsley, Sonja, Ramona and Dorinda going to a fashion show for NYFW and a NYFW party/event.

Bethenny has done her first filming with Luann and Barbara Kavouit in an intimate setting. She posted a hilarious photo of Luann drying her wet crotch in front of a fireplace labeled #FireCrotch and tagged Barbara on the post.

I can’t believe it is already time to start filming again…

Not sure why she thinks she can offer me anything in clothes I can’t get somewhere else, cheaper. I understood that by choosing from her drink and food lines I could shave a few calories off here and there. But jeans, what’s her unique offering? Unless wearing her size 14W jeans would somehow make me look and feel skinnier, I’m not going there. Good luck to ya’ Bethenny because I’m a fan otherwise but not sure who this line is appealing to.

So hot where I live still, hard to believe filming of anything new is already taking place.

I do not understand the sizing at all. 32 jumps to 14w. Price point is pretty high for the masses. Like you, TT, I thought that she was smarter than that. #fail

I spent a couple weeks in Seattle several years ago when I was still a normalish size. The jeans in the stores I shopped in there had jeans by waist sizes too. That is what appears to be happening in the normal sized jeans.

I plugged in the info that’s required and the algorithm determined my size. Didn’t foster confidence on my part so I’m not a customer for many reasons. One needs to try on this kind of product, IMHO. Hate on-line returns. BTW, I lived in the Seattle area too (Edmonds).

Size 27 is a 4. And so on (28=6, 29=8, 30=10…). I lost 50 pounds “recently” as a result of a medical nightmare and have discovered the joys of wearing 4/27 pants. But I would NOT pay that much for jeans when many other brands are available for much more reasonable prices.

      30=10, 31=12, 32=14, then jumps to “plus”. A 14w is roomier in the thighs than a 32.

      It is all bs.

regular sizes go by waist measurement, 24 to 32, then the W sizes are 14W to 24W I believe.

I can see them being more money for more material, $10 isn’t much. But it would be nice if ladies who wear a larger size didn’t have to pay more, but I get it.

Frankly, for designer style jeans, if they’re comfy, women will buy them. Back in the day before I learned to pick my designer jeans in the high end shops then buy them gently used or resale on poshmark or ebay, I used to shell out what little free money I could save for a great pair of jeans. I am tall, so it used to be that cheap brands did not make sizes with long inseams for tall women, you had to buy the designer brands. I have 7 for all mankind and Paige that I bought over ten years ago that still look as good as when I bought them. A good pair is worth the money, good quality denim feels infinitely different than cheap.

She’s doing a launch event tomorrow at the Macy’s by me in nyc, I was thinking of stopping by.

I just doesn’t envision Skinny Jeans as “designer jeans”. I live outside NYC and I don’t think I’ll see many people here wearing them here. Bethenny probably gets her jeans from Barneys and spends at least $300-$500 a pop if not more. She’s picked an interesting price point for her line. I suspect it’s too high for her customers but I’m sure they put a lot of thought into it. I don’t care for her but I wish her success.
I live in Paige jeans ( so soft w/ great stretch that holds it’s shape!) but they’re expensive-I take good care of them. When you spend more it’s incentive to maintain your weight!

Yeah. I was a mistake alright. And it just highlights that even the $10 is a pisser. Why don’t they make it tiered for every size? A size 8 takes less fabric than a size 14 and more than a size 2. I figure that all the size zeros make up for the 18s. SkinnyGIRL jeans should make you LOOK skinnier. Not just be skinny-legged jeans with a higher price point. Cookie Jordan used to have a line of jeans that were cut to flatter a curvy girl. Skinny-leg jeans are not the most figure-friendly for ANY size.

Cookie Jordan’s original jeans were worth the high price point, but she cut the quality of the fabric & construction to lower the price, & I just don’t think it was a good decision. The jeans weren’t anything alike, & the more expensive ones, which had sold out, were a much better deal, I think. I bought my fave pair of jeans (Earl) on ebay for $7.99; they were perfectly broken in & fit just right. I do also like Gloria Vanderbilt, though buy on sale & with coupons to get for $25 instead of $50. I’ve shrunk enough in height with age, so now have to wear petites, & it’s now more difficult to find good jean selections, especially as I like them skinny & I have virtually no derriere. Mostly I have better luck in consignment shops if I can find current styles. The last two pair I bought online from Steinmart are definitely too baggy. We live in a rural coastal area (yes, smack dab in front of Hurricane Florence), & it is difficult to find time in stores for try-ons. Flyboy prefers me in yoga pants with lots of Lycra, but I can’t always wear those in public.

I don’t know who Bethenny’s target buyers are but her prices seem to be pretty much in the middle of most designer skinny jeans on the market. Bloomingdales and Nordstrom’s have some selling for more than $500 per pair. Most seem to be pricey. I’d say . . . . wait for a sale or for her to design some “Skinny Girl Reality Wear” for us real women!

I read at the market her cover story in Money magazine on tips to become successful and free of debt. A big nothing article that most people know how to do (consolidate credit cards). Mostly her rags to riches story, but surprised she admitted she was raised wealthy.

As a fan of high end jeans(which I buy off of Poshmark and Ebay, and discounted stores only, I try them on in stores and find them elsewhere), these are average priced jeans, not sure if they are branded with actual Hudson line jeans – these are cheaper. If they are as comfy as AG jeans(which are pricier), I’d buy them, cause that brand is comfy AF for skinny jeans. I will be in NYC in a week at the store she will be having her release, we shall see how they are if they have my size avail still and worth it or not. Might be my 50th bday present:0)

I could also go in and try on 8 pairs of 50 and under price maybe feel awesome in 1 or 2. I live in Colorado and can wear Jean’s just about year round every day though.

I’ve always thought developing her brand around skinniness was going to be a problem. The culture is changing. I’m not a mother (I hope to be in the next few years) but any time my nieces come over I scour my house for anything diet, or slightly body shaming. It’s something I just think many of us are more conscious of these days, especially if our mothers passed down their body issues to us. And making people pay more for plus sized jeans of a brand inherently designed around shaming their body? Very short-sighted.

Without a doubt, doubling the price is outrageous, but a small increase seems reasonable to me.

I remember when Victoria Beckham started off, a lot of her dresses were really flattering and pictured on curvier women… she soon cut that shit short and now primarily targets trim women in the far east. The cynical part of me thinks pricing the plus-sizes higher could be a ploy to put off larger women who don’t fit in to her brand image. Kinda like how Burberry burns surplus stock rather than sell it to a wider client base for discounted prices. The realistic part of me knows Bethenny is all about the money and it probably was, as she said a pricing error. Either way the jeans market is diluted af and hers don’t have a unique selling point beyond the “Skinny Girl” label, which tbh is oxymoronic on a size 16 lol. Maybe she could have called the plus size range “Curvy Girl”.

I get the extra cost for larger size clothing, doesn’t bother me too much, but what really irks me is when say Ribeyes are on sale at the grocery store, you save 1.00 or so per pound buying the “family pack”. I will pay top price for a pair of jeans if they fit. I LOVE jeans and it’s so hard to find a good pair, so if they fit me I am paying. I would check out a pair if I see some pics of real people in them and reviews. I think it’s odd that Bethenny is in the clothing business, and I don’t know if I would be screaming “he ya’ll I got my skinny girls on” BUT I also don’t think Bethenny does anything half assed so I think this might be a good line.
