Hey, it’s Cho! Before we get started with today’s post, I have some house cleaning to get through. Moving forward, I’ll only be submitting one “Cho Does Home Reno” post a month instead of the usual two. This is because SURVIVOR STARTS ON SEPTEMBER 26!! Y’all know I love blogging about Survivor. I’m already so excited about what’s to come, and it’s important to set a realistic workload for myself ahead of time. I received some tips about some of the cast members that have some seriously problematic twitter profiles, but I’ll save that tea for when the season gets closer. Today, we have a short but very special post that is going to serve almost like an Open Forum where you can discuss anything you like. Luckily for me, this project didn’t actually involve me doing any manual labor… unlike last time! As the title suggests, we will be discussing our entertainment room that is located on the 3rd floor.
So when I moved in with Eric, the 3rd floor was one of the rooms that was mostly complete in terms of renovation. Recently, y’all saw us doing some additional work to the 3rd floor due to a certain neighbor’s chimney falling onto our house. Because of the damage caused by the chimney, we ended up having to do some trim work that lasted all throughout the night. But before then, Eric had already done a lot of work on the third floor. Originally, it was staged as a bedroom with two closets. In our neighborhood, the third floors of these “mansions” are usually rented out, but Eric didn’t have much need for that, so he took the closets out and began work on transforming it into an entertainment room.
Probably the biggest project that occurred on the third floor was replacing the ceiling. While it was already in less than stellar shape after the purchase, the chimney incident made things much worse. I remember Eric working very hard to get that part of the house complete. When he and I were dating in the beginning, he wouldn’t dare ask me to lift a finger to help. Oh how I miss those days! I would come back to the house and see him covered in soot. Then, I’d just go relax and drink sparkling wine until he was ready to hang out. It looked like he worked in the coal industry for decades minus all of the sad medical issues that those workers tend to allegedly get. Apparently, the house was heated with coal back in the day which is why there was so much nasty soot in ceiling.
Obviously, the aesthetics are very important in an entertainment room, because it’s what makes people feel… entertained while they’re there! We wanted to have a room that would be comfortable for cocktail parties which we host every so often. I really want to have another party this fall. It’s the perfect weather for dressing up and having a good indoor gathering! At the last roving cocktail party, I remember congregating up there for quite some time as it is the most comfortable. We used to have an old red leather couch so that the dogs could lounge around, but now they aren’t allowed up there because we’ve upgraded to a $2800 gray sectional from Value City. It has become a great place for large groups to lounge around the big TV. We also have a pair of chairs next to one of the windows which is great for reading in the morning. Lastly, one of my favorite spaces is the mid-century modern chairs tucked in the corner which are accented with a plush red chair for more intimate conversations. There’s something about that style that I absolutely love. I don’t know how to embed videos onto the blog, but I implore you to check out my instagram page to see a video tour of our 3rd floor to get a more complete look at our finishing touches.
So my question for everyone to answer in the comment section below: what does your entertainment or family room look like? Did you have to do any major remodeling or renovation to get it where you wanted? Because we sometimes entertain, I’d also like to know if you’ve ever visited someone else’s home that had a great entertainment room? We have neighbors who have the ULTIMATE karaoke third floor complete with a bar area! Anyway, the next time y’all hear from me, I’ll be spilling the tea on the latest season of Survivor! Can’t wait to chat below in the comments!
