Shahs Of Sunset: Javid Shah: Long Live The King

August 23, 2018 by tamaratattles 79 Comments

I have to tell you guys I am really close to Mercedeh. At least in my head. We’ve communicated off and on since before season one. That link will link you to my interviews (and some by other people I did six years ago) So this will be a hard episode to watch. Mike is heartbroken. So are Reza and Adam. The three of them went to the hospital last night. MJ’s dad was not responsive. Reza calls MJ the next day from Mike’s house for an update. When Reza found out that he passed he starts talking to her in Farsi and telling her he really believes that he held on until she had Tommy to take care of her. I’ve never seen Mike this emotional for someone other than himself. It’s all heartbreaking.

MJ’s dad was the first person that Reza came out to and he was totally accepting without hesitation. Reza could not believe that an older Persian man would accept him for who he was, but he did. Mike and Reza want to have a Persian feast in honor of her father at Mike’s gorgeous house.

Oh God, Vida is there.  The hits just keep on coming. And Sammy. This dinner appears to be the very night that her father died. It seems too soon. Tommy arrives with MJ. As soon as MJ is making the group rounds, Tommy is breaking down. He keeps saying he wants to take the pain from her and he can’t.  Vida tells MJ she will be there with her every step of the way making the arrangements. Vida was friends with her ex until the very end.

Mercedeh has a dress fitting on Friday and she wants to continue on with the plans.

From death we move on to divorce. GG is still not divorced because she didn’t do anything to get divorced. She’s finally getting an attorney to get the ball running.

It’s Mona’s birthday party at some sort of adult lounge. Nema brings his friend Annette to act as a buffer between GG and Erica. Adam gets to make an appearance. Nema is conflicted over which woman he wants to impress. GG arrives first. She seems him as a boy toy. Someone asks GG if she doesn’t drink hard liquor. She says, “It makes me violent.” The first salvo has been shot over the bow.  Nema plans to dump Erica. I don’t think they were ever a thing.

The dress fitting is in Orange County. Reza and MJ talk about how weird it is to go there because they are “way too brown for Orange County.” I’ve heard that Orange County actually has a lot of homeless people and refugees. Is that not true? At the dress shop, everyone is a bit drunk from drinking in the car the whole way there. MJ introduces Reza as her Man of Honor and Mike as her “dick meter” if his dick doesn’t get hard when he sees her in the dress it’s not the one. Oh, MJ.  Mike goes to help MJ get into he undergarments and MJ is sobbing in the dressing room. It’s too soon. And she is drunk. Someone has handed out coffees. It’s not sobering any of them up.  Reza gives Mercedeh a present. It’s a Cartier bracelet. I’m going to need to up my bangle game a bit.  She finally tries on a dress. It’s not the one.

Growing up in San Clemente I agree with your statistics for the most part. The demographics are changing from almost all Caucasian to about 30% Hispanic and a scattering of Asians who I see mostly in the medical field. We do have a few scattering of Persians here. We also have a significant LGBT community here mostly who reside here in the Art Colony of Laguna Beach.

Newport Beach here. That’s so untrue. We have a huge Persian population in OC. Go to Fashion Island on weekend evenings and see for yourself. What a stupid thing to say. The LA people look down on OC like we are a flyover state or something. And I’m half living in Chicago and Newport Beach. So this is not a slam to flyover states. We moved from LA to Newport because the people are more normal in OC vs the fakery in LA. Typical comment from snobby LA types!!

GIGi I don’t know what the demographics are in Newport Beach as I do not live there and that might be the case in Newport where you live.. But I am talking about where I am in Dana Point and I border Laguna Beach. Also, I include in this area. Ladera Ranch, Laguna Niguel, Coto area. These are the demographics of South OC where I live which appears to have a different demographic from where you live. Lots of areas of Orange County are different. MJ may be referring to more South Orange County.

That’s why it’s called the Orange Curtain – if you’re a POC you’d better have a designated white person in OC should you get pulled over by the Popo. I live in LA and all I know is every time I’ve been to San Diego, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguna…it’s pretty much 99% white with a splattering of brown.

OC does have a homeless issue but it’s not where all the Uber rich are. However, there is a huge minority population there because it’s fancy living and close to the beaches, but totally different than LA, which is why many live here. So I’m not sure why he thinks it’s a low “brown population” because there is a Persian population in the OC. They live in the super nice parts, but they are there.

Orange County was a white flight location for L.A. area conservative leaning suburbanites decades ago. Parts of South Orange County are still predominately white and conservative but like another poster stated, mid and North Orange County are now like the rest of California, very much an ethnic explosion of cultures.

MJ had me ugly crying. I guess some of it had to do with the fact that my beloved father’s yahrzeit is approaching and that on the Hebrew calendar, it is always on Yom Kippur…which is sad in and of itself (thanks, Daddy). I am also my father’s only child, so watching this episode was a bit of a throat punch.
I think that the food thing and gathering is pretty common. If I am not mistaken, I think that Muslim tradition is to be buried within 24 hours like Jews do. We sit Shiva for seven days and I believe the Muslim tradition is three days. The traditions of both are to completely surround, support and do anything and everything for the family members that are mourning.

Watching now. Googled, and at least one page mentioned that people in more traditional Iran will often stay days with the grieving immediate loved ones as it is thought that socializing, etc. helps. So this is probably a modern twist – and frankly, I find it beautiful. I also teared up at Reza’s account that Shams was the first person he came out to. What a beautiful “first coming out” memory. Shervin had some good insight about it being the first parent to pass.

One more thing – omg, MJ has gorgeous skin and can completely go without makeup! She looked so young!

TT, please delete this if it’s inappropriate.
The homeless in California is sizable and is in almost every area. Tend to gather together in areas with the nicest weather, social tolerance, affluence and the better assistance programs.
I live in Monterey county, parts of it with small tent cities and other areas you will only on a rare occasion see a homeless person.
Carmel streets do not have homeless people, parts of Monterey do, Santa Cruz, Salinas have their population of homeless but smaller cities do not .
Orange County is similar. More affluent areas the homeless is scarce yet a few miles away you can find a tent city. Tourist do not like to see homeless so those cities try to keep them out.
SF has a huge problem, it’s becone fairly disgusting in some areas but they have always had strong assistance programs. For cities it’s vecome a Catch-22 – those of you old enough to remember that.

What? I thought Calipatti was posting correctly about the double-sided homeless problem in California, with it’s desirable weather attracting people from all over.

How did sanctuary cities get into this mix? (People who do or don’t want their tax dollars to go into law enforcement of their individual areas)) has what to do with the homeless population exactly???

In no way do I understand what your post about sanctuary cities has to do with the homeless population in the O.C. A few other posts below are helping to explain a supposed tie in.

So perhaps your post above wasn’t serious, which would explain why you’re not defending it.

I lived in Monterey for six years. The medical care was very bad for WORKING (The MC Herald) poor. All that affluence among a small group and then the hospitality and the military populations do not have it very good. CHOMP has kept Kaiser out of the area. Beautiful place to live but not if you have health issues. And, as you say, homeless communities exist where the weather is good. The BEST PLACE FOR HOMELESS ANIMALS though. Between Betty White and Doris Day and other kind people who donate, the shelter (near Laguna Seca) is like a 5-Star hotel and THE BEST volunteer and paid workers.

SPCA Monterey at Laguna Seco is not funded by government dollars and has no parent company for funding. It’s strictly run by donations, fund raisers, volunteer workers, etc., no competition with CHOMP dollars.
Sanctuary cities have little to do with homeless unless you think the homeless are mostly non citizens which is not true.
Tax dollars not going to law enforcement has absolutely nothing to do with sanctuary’s city status. I understand the original sanctuary city reasons, I do not think they are still a good reason. Monterey county sheriff and jail is still working with ICE but small local jails are not. So if it’s a misdemeanor and you don’t get sent to county you do not get reported, felony or county jail you might be.
Our crime rate comes from having two major prisons in this area.
Homeless benefit from all of the county’s non profit events that donate back locally. Largest “purse” Rodeo in W. US,, Calif Airshow, Pebble Beach & Monterey car shows, Pebble Beach Golf tournaments, Laguna Seco races, etc because volunteers work these events that support our SPCA, homeless shelters, food banks, etc. Nothing is coming out iof tax dollars. Yes everyone in my family works at least one event.

NavySmokies, Sam, YoYo, Erica and others I’m taking a break from TT’s. I have sincerely enjoyed being here and hope to return in a few months.

P.S. Los Angelas/San Diego areas have a huge increase of illegals/Latino homelessness. A few groups treat all homeless the same, other groups mostly for housing will only serve citizens, so there are both groups out there.

If it sounded like I was implying that CHOMP money went toward SPCA, I was unclear. The medicos at CHOMP have kept Kaiser out and that was one affordable medical option for mid-level workers. Labs at Kaiser would have cost me $10 in San Jose and in Monterey WITH health insurance cost me $1,200. What I was TRYING to say was that it is a tough place for working poor, but an EXCELLENT place for animals of the poor. When I rescued a pregnant dog, the angels at the shelter offered me EVERY OPTION from keeping mom and pups at home with advice from experts to keeping them all at the shelter until the pups were ready for adoption. I kept all at home, and with their help, raised four beautiful pups. Mom and one pup (13 & 11) are with us now. Happy and healthy. XOXOX to MC-SPCA.

I was homeless in Encinitas CA for 3 weeks in the early ’80s. There was a place called “hippie hill” where a bunch of hippies lived-some in tents some vans, even a schoolbus. They had “rules” no needles, no meth. Mostly pot smokers. I made a couple good friends there. I luckily found a nice trailer between 101 and the coast for $350/mo. I’m actually thankful now that it happened to me because I’ll never look at a homeless person and judge them. It taught me quite a few lessons. But I was in beautiful southern Cali and for a short time. I’ve never taken having a place to live for granted again.

I live in OC, in an affluent part of OC too. There is a very large Persian population here. OC has a lot of Asians, Indians, African Americans, and Hispanics. We have a blend of all races. And there’s more women without boob jobs than with. It still drives me crazy that on the first season of RHOC one of the housewives said 85% of women in OC have breast implants. More like 5%, if even that. I was really annoyed by Reza’s Comments.
And yes, there is a homeless problem, but that is mostly near the Angel’s stadium, Disneyland, and also in Santa Ana.

@MCJ: Thanks for the demographic info. I guess that most of us…at least me…think that the OC is Disney and Coto, with a side of Dana Pointe thrown in.
Since you are at ground Zero, maybe you can answer a silly question. Is the store that the Shahs were in the same bridal shop where Tamra, and the gang were finding out about Brooks’ extra curricular activities with the stripper friend of Laurie’s daughter? I know that Bravo loves a promo opportunity, so I wondered if it is the same shop?

I have no idea if that is the same bridal shop. However, I will say that Coto is a tiny gated community of houses far from the major cities of OC. When RHOC first began, I thought it was strange they chose that small area to represent OC.
There are many other places that are nicer and I would say more desirable to live in than Coto. I’m glad the eventually had wives on that didn’t live in just Coto.
I have seen a housewife in person, and let me just say…all the work they get done to their faces to look good on tv does not look as nice in real life. It’s pretty surreal. Oh and a friend of mine had Vicki’s daughter as her nurse years ago, she was pretty nice and normal.

You have answered a question I have often wondered about. How “the work” looks in the wild. Two friends and a sister — all VERY ATTRACTIVE— visited Sur and had their photo taken with Lisa VP. In the photo Lisa looks almost like a waxen figure and the other three look like Plain Janes. It is the STRANGEST thing. They said that in real life, Lisa had a lot of makeup but she looked beautiful and she was lovely. And that Jax was a DICK. He was nice until some younger girls came in and then he did not take a promised photo with them (after a big tip) but only with the younger women. My friend’s sister ripped him a new jaxhole!

The best kept secret here is the danger that surrounds Disneyland. The majority of released felons have received Section #8 Vouchers for housing. There are identified 33 different gang that surround Anaheim and Santa Ana and the police force claim they do to not have adequate staff. The jails are overwhelmed and some of these guys are known sex offenders as I worked Case Management and placements.

THIS EPISODE is exactly why I was drawn to Shahs. Seeing friends of two religions that are culturally overlapping but with historical animosity getting along (usually) is inspiring. It’s intesting learning about their cultures from people we “know” and care about (mostly). Watching them put their differences aside to support one of the members was beautiful. Asa not showing up was glaring, but perhaps there were good reasons. Yes, there will be drama and stupid fights and whatever, but to see this — especially from Vida and Tommy — outpouring of love was the BEST. The RH ladies and other “Bravolebrities” could learn something about REAL friendship and compassion from the Shahs.

I can’t stand MJ. I think she is a mean and hateful person. But my heart ached for her last night. I know she loved her dad. She had been in denial of his condition for a long time. The man was 84 years old. He was older than my father, who passed away in 2015 at 79. And Tommy! MJ is very lucky to have him. A lot of people on the blog sites couldn’t stand him at first. I’m from NJ and have a lot of family from Queens, so he always seemed normal to me. I was glad to see Vida being supportive. I know losing someone over 80 shouldn’t be shocking, but a loss is still painful all the same.

Love me some Tommy!!!! I really hope MJ realizes how amazing he is! Sad episode, but glad to see Vida stepped up for MJ.

Nematode, and that’s what I’m calling him for the rest of the season, has no game. Hilarious Gigi realized he was a nancy the first day where as it took his girlfriend 2 years. And speaking of the girlfriend, I am so sad for her. Basically he orchestrated the entire plot to dump her and she had no say in the role. A true man would have done it BEFORE being on camera! That is why he is forever Nematode!

I cried like a baby watching this episode! Deepest sympathies to Mercedeh losing her father. And trying to power through at a wedding dress fitting days afterward? She so tried to honor his wishes that she continue to move on and I give her big props for trying! And big props for Reza and Mike and all the rest for such great support in her time of grief and need!

greatly appreciated the comic relief provided by mike’s frenchies in the soft crate…when they rolled it like a hamster ball, trying to follow mike/reza back into the house.

great recap….This broke my heart. I lost my dad and I understand the denial when it first happens. I am so tired of the manufactured drama and the nonsense with the housewives. Tommy crying and the conversation he had at the dinner showed how much he is in love with MJ. I have watched this show on and off from the beginning but this was so sad……

MJ is a Queen and Reza is truly her “Man of Honor” GG is a hot mess…but we all have a friend like that tho….and I will protect her with all I got! Mike, well he’s Mike, I’ve dated a few Mikes in my life, I even fell in love with one… once upon a time long ago. Destiny makes me smile, I like her, she could be my friend. I do miss Asa….Great show, great cast, love, love love! Housewives…Im over you, pay attention, you could learn something, maybe not, I’m off to watch my Million Dollar listing guys from New York!!!

The opener episode was a bit iffy but the last 2 episodes have been great! Reminding me of why I ever liked this show and got invested in these people, lol. I liked Vida’s tribute to her ex. All of it just seemed very authentic. Sherwin and Destiney have grown on me too. I wanted to eat whatever that pan of stuff Destiney stirred. 🙂 I’m glad As a is gone. Don’t miss her at all.

Oh for fuck’s sake. I come here for a break, but since some of you brought these things up, I had to do some research on Orange Co. to see if it was similar to my own region.

    You are all kinda wrong.

First of all – you all are making an entire meal out of an offhand comment made by 3 people who did grow up in the area and at a time when Orange County was a bit of a white flight area and STILL is one of the more conservative counties in our nation. I am not even a Californian and I know that.

I have NO DOUBT that there are areas that 3 POC like MJ, Reza, and Mike would feel uncomfortable in growing up and still perceive it to be. Perception is reality, as the cliche goes. I also don’t personally question a person of color, or a gay person, or a woman, if they say that an area makes them uncomfortable. Fuck that business. #MeToo

Frankly, the arguments about how horrid they are for saying it smell a little like the old chestnuts “I’m not homophobic, I have a gay hairdresser!” or “I’m not racist, I have a black friend!”

Now on to sanctuary cities and homelessness. How the FUCK we got there from this recap of all the recaps, I will never know. You people are nuts. But I deal with this in indirect and direct ways in my real life – if you want “bona fides” I’ve both served food I prepared myself in a food kitchen to the homeless and I’ve had to call the cops for assistance when a high as a kite person with a mean dog would not leave a doorway.

Sanctuary cities have to do with immigration and not complying with the feds on some of their deportation, etc. laws (especially recently – and most of those people have been gainfully employed for years) But Tamara is a smart cookie and so am I….. SHE WAS FUCKING KIDDING. BEING SARCASTIC! I’d tell you all to die in a fire, but I’m currently choking on wildfire smoke and karma is a bitch. It may also account for my mood. I’ve used my inhaler 3 times tonight.

Also, Orange County (and the rest of the census) don’t even have a category for Middle Eastern. So any percentage is probably anecdotal unless you found an article I didn’t on the Google.

I also found out that, per the LA Times citation of a UC Irvine homeless census, the OC’s homeless population has over 60% of people who have lived in the county over 10 years. HOMELESSNESS IS A LOCAL PROBLEM. Stop with this “other” mentality. Sure California has one of the biggest homeless populations – but San Francisco’s is pretty bad and they don’t have the wonderful warm climate of Southern California. Alaska has its own homelessness problem, and they sure as fuck can’t afford to get to California to do some fucking homeless version of snowbirding for Christ sake.

Fact is – for every person you see unsheltered living on the sidewalk, there are probably nine more people who are homeless but are probably not unsheltered. The problem is that the shelter may change from night to night, and keeping yourself and your kids sheltered and fed is often mentally and physically unrelenting and exhausting as living on a sidewalk. Housing is damn expensive in Cali, and the homeless rates reflect that.

If you are still reading this. Sorry. I’m in a mood and y’all kind of pissed me off.

I was TOTALLY NOT KIDDING. Shouldn’t you granola eaters listen to NPR? Because I do and the fucking lawbreaking Sanctuary Cities are being discussed all the time for their rampant homelessness. I listened to a full episode about Orange County WHICH IS WHY I BROUGHT IT UP. The rich folks were protesting because of all the illegal allies homeless people in OC . It’s been all over the news. There are tent cities in the lily white neighborhood full of illegal aliens. They want sanctuary cities but they don’t don’t want the poors pitching tents in their towns.

THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING IN PORTLAND OREGON. You must have seen that on the news.

The rich people on the west coast that want to have sanctuary cities only want them if they can afford to live in Orange County or LA or Portland where they are the biggest problem.

So do you and Illegal aliens in your town or are you just down for it in other cities?

How many illegal border crosses do you think can afford to live in OC? Unless they are drug smugglers. Illegal aliens have very limited job choices.

So yes. Many illegal aliens are homeless and clogging up OC cities. And the rich white people don’t like it one bit in practice, ONLY IN THEORY.

Erica, you have googled the wrong information. I live in OC, I see the Persian population everyday. And not just Persian, but Asians, Hispanics, Indians, and African Americans. My children go to school here, I went to school here, and my husband went to school here. Over the last couple decades the blend of different races here has escalated substantially. Your comment is rather condescending. You don’t even live here. Why do you care so much? I know I care because I do not like stereotypes being said on television about my home town. Take a trip to Anaheim Hills or Newport Beach and look around you. Perhaps it isn’t as heavilu populated with Persians as parts of LA can be, but OC is definitely not all white people (nor all white women with boob jobs). Much of OC is very family based and not full of shallow materialistic people like you see on RHOC.
I’m just defending where I live and where I raise my children.

Fact is, 3 people of color were a little nervous about going into a part of your country. You saying they are stereotyping or are wrong is condascending.

They dont ask about Middle East on the census, so you may have parts of the OC with a Persian population… but whomever above was quoting percentages… well, I am guessing that was a guess.

Me saying there isn’t just white people in OC is hardly condescending. That makes absolutely no sense. I’m curious to know who is hiding behind this Erica’s computer or phone. You are a little too passionate about a place you don’t live in and care too much about the completely wrong perception of this place by the people you don’t know on a tv show. By saying it is all white people in OC, then they are not acknowledging all the people who are of different races who do live here. You really do not have a reason to keep debating this. It’s late, I’m tired, I don’t want to keep arguing over this.

TT there was a vote last year to give Salinas and Monterey county Sanctuary city status, it failed. Voted down as in NO.
The city council and a few upper officers have decided to not honor vote …. blah. There will be a fight over this.
No most Californians do not want Sanctuary city status. They just hate Trump’s policys.

All areas in the county are different, different demographics, and different homeless problems. There was a census that was done here by the city. in this area only 10% of the homeless here were native to this area. The problem we have here is most of the homeless are here at the sober living homes that are advertised around the country. The ads advertise to come here on their insurance dime and get California living while in rehab here. Unfortunately, when their insurance runs out it they have to leave with no discharge plan. Most of these homes are unlicensed and out for profits. so, these people are discharged to the streets, here from other states to fend for themselves with no discharge plan so consequently, many are still using and contributing to our drug problem, overdosing on the streets, and leaving needles all over including our sandy beaches.. Also, they are relieving themselves wherever.

Aw sucks to be you. However, it’s not the addicts your city revolted against. IT WAS THE SANCTUARY CITIES, Because rich liberal are all for sanctuary cities as long as they are not in your city,’

Whose city do you want these illegal aliens to live in?

Here is a heads up, my city is not a sanctuary city and the closest strip mall to my house is all in Spanish. My grocery store has more Spanish signs than English. So we are catering to illegal aliens here too. How do I know this? Because when I taught school, my kids would disappear all the time because their parents were picked up. It was heartbreaking because my kid are my kids. But they did pick their kids up in Hummers in the ghetto. So it was kind of obvious.

There are three things I wanted Trump to do before he is impeached and we are stuck with the gay vice president who pretends he was reprogrammed when so many gay males will tell you he was not. BUILD THE FUCKING WALL, GET RID OF THE TAX ON US CITIZENS WHO EITHER CAN”T AFFORD HEALTH INSURANCE WHO HAVE EITHER PAID FOR IT AND NO ONE TAKE IT, And fix the economy which did for long enough for me to pull out of my individual stock market accounts.

I hear you Tamara.. but it’s not the illegals who are breaking into our houses for drug money during the night. stealing our kids bicycles and stuff. This poor man down the street had to beat off this drug guy with pink hair and tats with a baseball bat to protect his family at 2:00 a.m. There is no hope for California. We are a state of lawlessness. It’s the wild wild west out here.

Dana Point is a small town. They don’t show shots on RHOC most of what you see is Laguna and Huntington Beach. So in our small town we have 65 sober living homes. At night these homeless drug people come out because the are living in the brush and make encampments. They have set fires, go around opening and breaking into cars, have set fires, robbed business including our Post Office boxes and steal food from grocery stores and have been exposing themselves. The homeless problem is quite serious here, more so because a lot of them are from these homes or have criminal records. The illegals for the most part and we have many, have acclimated fairly well and make good money. They hang out down here and are picked up by construction companies and other businesses early in the morning for the day. We call them”day laborers” such for the day. I have used them to help me move things and they aren’t cheap.

I forgot to say that these sober living homes are rented homes in our neighborhoods. There are so many because they pay high prices to lease homes so the money is attractive for some.

Erica needs to chill. It’s not healthy to be so angry about something you haven’t even experienced IRL. California is very diverse. We also have a crap load of problems. (I’m a 5th generation Californian so I have a good understanding of my state.) Helpful hint* Google searches don’t make people experts. Until you actually live somewhere, you have no idea of what it’s really like. So? Do those of us who actually DO live here a favor & have a seat. Worry about your own backyard and consider yoga or something to help calm down & take the edge off. ?

Yes siree. It was really refreshing to see those old photos of a Reza and Mike with MJ’s dad and family and know for sure this is a group of REAL FRIENDS, not manufactured by Bravo. That made the death of MJ’s dad that more poignant. And it kind of makes me angry over the MercedeS instead of Mercedeh (thank you TT for clearing that up). I wonder if production told Mauricio (RHBH) to go by Maurice to make him “more relatable” or is that only for Persians?
