We pick up on this episode after the Christmas and New Years break. There is snow in Savannah! That almost never happens. Hannah and Louis are back from their holiday trip to Denver. Daniel wants the clan to get together to go paintballing.
Hagood has successfully made her first batch of saké. It’s 22% alcohol. She’s also getting ready to paint Catherine’s portrait. Catherine and Lyle went to the mountains together for New Year’s Eve. Brandon finds out that Catherine and Lyle don’t even know anything about each others finances. Brandon thinks that Lyle wants the lifestyle he will have if he marries Catherine more than just wanting Catherine.
Hannah goes down to Saint Simon’s to meet up with three of her best friends because one of them got engaged over the holidays. Saint Simon’s has changed so much since I lived there. I don’t recognize this restaurant and have no idea where it could be on the island. Hannah is so ready to get married but Louis isn’t. Hannah tells her friends if he doesn’t get it together by the end of the year she’s going to cut bait and run. Her friends remind her that they have been having this conversation for five years. I don’t see why Hannah is so dead set on marrying Louis. How much money can you make selling socks? Hannah cries when the girls explain that Louis is not what she wants.
Daniel and Louis rag on Lyle for taking Catherine to North Carolina for New Years. Daniel has been working so much that he hasn’t been out with the guys. Lyle says that they all work and he thinks Daniel is bullshitting them about trying to be a morning person. Then Daniel out of the blue let’s the bomb drop that Catherine sleeps with other guys. It seems that only Lyle was unaware of this information. Daniel is a mean drunk. Lyle says that Catherine can hook up with whoever she wants to. Daniel is really mean to Lyle. Lyle admits that it hurts him that Catherine sleeps around.
Hannah and Louis meet up at his new office. Louis trashes Lyle to Hannah and lets her know that Lyle did in fact know about all the cheating. I don’t think any of these people actually like each other. Nonetheless, they all get on the party bus and head off to shoot each other with paint balls. This is guaranteed to be ugly. Catherine wiped out on black ice and hurt her leg so she will be an easy target. Daniel brings two random friends.
The teams are Brandon, Lyle and the girls versus the other guys. This will be a slaughter. The girl’s team is called Team Vagine. Le sigh. Paint balls apparently hurt a lot. Team Vagine actually won.
The next stop on the party bus is a bar. When they talk about new year’s resolutions, Lyle’s resolution is to find a new girlfriend. Brandon, who is normally sane, takes Catherine and Hannah into the other room. He says that Lyle’s resolution was mean. WTF? Every guy on this show razzes Lyle for staying with his cheating girlfriend, so when he announces he’s ready to move on, how is that mean? Catherine has been moving on their entire relationship apparently. Even Louis says that Lyle was being a dick. Why is this whole relationship suddenly Lyle’s fault? Thank you Hannah for pointing out that Catherine is responsible for the demise of her relationship too.
I don’t like the scenes with Daniel and his family. Daniel is having second thoughts about his call center idea. Daniel is depressed. Daniel wants to leave Savannah. He only came here to take care of the family business while his father was in prison. He’s resentful. Daniel says he wants to break all ties and be free to whatever he wants. He literally said he needs to find himself. His dad thinks this is ridiculous.
Next week: Catherine gets her portrait done. Hagood takes her sake to an expert for advice. Catherine continues to deny her relationships with other men and there is yet another breakup scene with Lyle and Catherine, and most importantly, Ashley comes to an all cast party!
