Ryan Murphy’s acclaimed drama Pose will return with season two with a bit of leap forward in time.
At the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday Murphy explained that season two would begin one year after season one ended. The season will begin in 1989 and end in March 1990 to coincide with the release of Madonna’s massive sensation, Vogue for the finale.
Murphy told the press that Vogue took something that was known only in the ballroom culture and made it mainstream. In its sophomore season, Pose will be about the reaction of the characters to suddenly being put on display.

The focus on Madonna’s Vogue single caused questions about Madonna herself making and appearance on the second season. Murphy stated that Pose is focused on using lesser known gay and transgender actors and focus on LGBT concerns rather than go the “stunt casting” route he employs on other series like American Horror Story.
Season two will also focus more on Blanca and Pray Tell’s HIV status and the dark reality of that situation at that time in history. More scenes involving AIDS activism are to be expected. A nod to, ACT UP activist and playwright, Larry Kramer is possible. Kramer previous worked with Murphy on The Normal Heart.
The writing has not begun for the season yet, and there is not word on when the second season will premiere. Where do you think the characters will be a year from now? One of Blanca’s boys is going on tour. Will he be back? Where do you see the cast in a year? Will Elecktra still be a hostess? What do you think?
I love this show soooo much. Curious how they will integrate their top billed characters like Stan & his boss. Angel would be fine without him.
I don’t want any main character to die. I hope they have that Magic Johnson strain of AIDS. I don’t wanna be sad. I just wanna celebrate them & the culture!
It’s going to get sad. It’s been sad. Murphy says he is not going to clean up the ugly reality of it all.
Easily one my favorite shows. I can’t wait until the next season. I need 24 episodes in for season 2.
Oh, I hope they give us additional episodes next season. I’m so invested in these lives. I want to dive right back in!
Sad is reality but there WERE some who made it through and I don’t want to be sad losing Pray Tell or Blanca.
I realize I may not get my wishes granted but I throw them out to the Universe…
Me too! It’s just that Ryan wants to show the darkest parts. So I;m not optimistic.
I don’t think the time jump was really that necessary. Just for Vogue the song? Madonna must have gave him clearence to use it. The time jump makes me think It’s really to kill off Pray Tell or Blanca. I knew season 2 we’d have to deal with losing one of them. It will most likely be Pray Tell since he didn’t know his status and it also makes way for Electra to take over his role in the balls as she isn’t a mother anymore. But why the year jump? I feel that negates Angel and Stan’s storyline a lot.
This is great news. I was hoping that for season two they would do a time jump into the 1990s so this sounds really good to me. The only thing that is giving me pause is that we may end up losing Blanca or Pray Tell. I am just going to hope that they will be spared because I have totally fallen in love with those characters and actors.
It could be Angel dying too. I know that in “Paris is Burning’ one of the women was killed in the motel. I can see that happening to Angel if the relationship goes wrong and she goes back to working on the Piers. I loved how the first season gave us a happy neat ending if it didn’t come back we could not wonder what happened, but I fully expect to be gut wrenched during season 2
