Catherine, the one who declined Lyles’s proposal last season is moving out of the alley and into a really nice apartment in Savannah over looking one of the many beautiful squares. I’ve thought about moving back there but healthcare in GA is so unaffordable, and not accepted anywhere. I’m exploring other options. Catherine and her father talk about Catherine’s miraculous recovery. She has made it through a troubling, difficult time. What was it? Her boyfriend proposed and she said no.
Louis and his socks go golfing with Lyle. If this season is going to be about Catherine and Lyle I may be out. For some reason Ashley is not a full cast member and I’m not happy about that. I liked her and I liked Daniel and so far I have seen neither. Louis tries to comfort Lyle over the tragic situation with Catherine.
Daniel and Hannah go to play bocce ball. I’m sorry guys I don’t remember any of these people. Daniel has lightened his hair or something. He’s unrecognizable. Also, I have totally forgotten this cast existed don’t remember much about them. Daniel appears to be adulting, unlike Louis and Lyle. But he is not happy working for the family law firm. He wants to start his own business.
Brandon, the token gay of last season, has been made a full-time cast member this season. His husband’s name is Jim. Jim looks familiar. He’s cute. I kind of like this gay bitchy couple though. It could go places. It’s their eleven year anniversary so there will be an all cast party.
Catherine and Hannah met for drinks. Maybe. Hannah is pissed she is not married to Louis. Louis is the one that drinks a lot. Then Hagood joins the girls. Is Haygood new? Yes she is. She has just moved to Savannah. She is eight years younger than Catherine. She has a boyfriend named Ales. They talk about the whole Lyle and Catherine thing. I do not care about the whole Lyle and Catherine thing.
Haygood (what kind of name is that?) meets with her mother. I really don’t care about this recruit. If anything she should be on Southern Charm proper. She’s from South Carolina and her family has a farm and a rice plantation. Haygood is going to be a sake maker. I mean, I guess if life gives you rice, make sake? Haygood has a small distillery set up in her apartment. Her mother thinks she is wasting her art education and talent.
There was a fishing trip. They went to the May river in Bluffton with the exact same guy the Southern Charm folks fished with on the trip from hell to Hilton Head. It was Haygood, Daniel and Louis. The guide baited their hooks for them. Louis talks about being “dumped” by Hannah.
Oh Bruce is doing the anniversary party. He should totally have been the fulltimer over Brandon. I don’t think Brandon has a realistic perspective on how Savannah feels about gay men. I know Savannah gay men and despite the drag shows, rest it peace Lady Chablis, it is not really a gay friendly town. Tolerant, perhaps to a degree. Perhaps things have improved since I lived there. Anyway, I love this caterer who is bringing tomato sandwiches and cheese straws. However, it’s not the right season for tomato sandwiches, dear. Brandon and Jim’s outdoor space is to die for.
Hannah and Louis meet up and it does not go well. When Louis tells Hannah to take this time to meet some new friends. That was a conversation stopper for Hannah.
Party time! I’m just going to watch this with minimal recapping because I a drooling over this house. I’m pretty sure I know Bruce. Maybe from Club One? He does seem like one of the people who everybody knows in Savannah. Anyway, the estranged straight couples have awkward conversations. I don’t understand why Lyle doesn’t get that when your girlfriend turns down your proposal, it’s time to find a new girlfriend. Lyle’s parting words are that maybe one day she will get it together and realize what she lost.
I started this recap on the night it aired shortly after ten pm. I just didn’t have it in me. Yesterday, I spent the day actively avoiding this recap and stressing about not completing it. Today I put it off as long as I could and then realized I just didn’t need it hanging over my head. It’s not that I dislike this show, it’s just that the entire episode could be summed up by saying, “All they did was talk about the downfall of Catherine and Hannah’s relationships. And there was a pretty party.” From the looks of the coming attractions that is going to be the focus of the entire season. Why can’t we just have the gay guys and the southern catering lady and the pretty house. Can’t we just have nice things?
