This is one of my least favorite episodes of Southern Charm. I hate when production manipulates things to try to make a cast member look bad. Kathryn has been busting her ass and has made drastic improvements to her life and to suggest anything to the contrary for the purpose of storyline is wrong.
So we start with Kathryn being MIA. Of course Shep suggests she must have fallen off the wagon since she didn’t show up for kickboxing with Naomie. Meanwhile, everyone seem to think that Austen has accomplished something by hosting a keg party. Victoria and Austen have split if anyone cares. He already has a new girlfriend that he took to the reunion.
On to Ashley stopping by Patricia’s to suck up to her. She’s upset that Kathryn doesn’t want her around the kids anymore. She says the kids are like family to her. This chick is really psychotic. Like for real insane in the membrane. Ashley talks about how Thomas is out partying all the time. She is everso stressed. Patricia tells Ashley that men do not change and that the way to manage him is to just keep her mouth shut and listen. Ashley will never in a million years be able to do that. Patricia says let everything be about Thomas. Patricia tells her to concentrate on being the girlfriend and to realize that Kathryn is going to be there forever.

Cameran meets up with Whitney and Shep at a BBQ joint. Cameran wants to talk about breastfeeding and how she is over producing milk. Since she has a surplus, she brought some breast milk for the guys to drink. Shep actually likes it. They talk about Thomas and Ashley. Shep says it will never last. Cameran stupidly suggests that Shep go after Ashley. “Fuck no” says Shep. Clearly, Cameran has not been sufficiently filled in on Hilton Head or this was filmed before they went.
Craig goes out for drinks with a friend from his law class. He’s married with a one year old child. He’s not impressed with Craig’s pillow making business. Or the clip art designs.
I wonder how many pairs of white jeans Thomas has? It’s like his uniform. We get a scene of Thomas making breakfast for the kids. It’s quite obvious he doesn’t do this often. He’s acting more like a waiter than a parent. Thomas says tons of nice things about Kathryn in his talking head. Thomas says that he’s not really focused on a future with Ashley at the moment.
Danni and Naomie go to check on Kathryn because no one has heard from her in days. She missed two days of work without calling in. Kathryn doesn’t come to the door so they get the leasing agent to go in and do a wellness check. She goes in and finds that Kathryn is in the apartment and that’s all she has to say.
I have been feeling like I was coming down with something all day. I ate food from a Mexican Food truck yesterday and based on the dramatics happening with my tummy right now I am wondering if I have food poisoning. I’m going to solider on through this recap, but sorry if it is a bit brief.
Back at Craig’s extremely messy bachelor pad, he’s doing some flower arranging. It’s the beginning of a scene between Craig and Patricia about the pillow design situation. This may be one of the most ridiculous fake storylines of all time. It seems ridiculous to even recap it. The bottom line is that this was never going to be a thing.
The four girls meet for a get together with champagne and massages. Cameran is really starting to take to motherhood. She’s not a big fan of breastfeeding and didn’t do it long enough to suit the breastfeeding trolls on the Internet, but she is really bonding with Palmer and seems to be enjoying motherhood. She took the baby weight off super fast. She has to leave early, and after she is gone Shep calls to say he was talking to Thomas and Kathryn came and picked up her kids. Thomas has no idea that Kathryn has gone off the radar.
Thomas and Ashley go out to dinner. It’s awkward. Thomas gives Ashley a bracelet and clearly Ashley has been told to pretend like she was expecting a ring. This is two shows now where the guy has given a girl a box that is shaped nothing like a ring box and they girl pretends like she thought it was a ring. So dumb. Thomas tells Ashley that she is needy and clingy. He wants her to have other interests.
Kathryn stops by to see Danni. Basically, Kathryn stopped taking her antidepressants and she crashed and just stayed in bed for a week. Doctor’s really need to make it more clear to patients that you have to wean off those drugs.
Next week: Thomas throws a polo party at the plantation and everyone attends.
Production I’m sure has gotten alot if shit from Thomas & trashley so now they are gonna try & spin it on Kathryn of course who wasn’t expecting it all they are doing is ruing thus show was hoping they’d leave it alone & not turn it into yet another bad reality soap but nope couldn’t do it
Try proofreading. Try reading the rules here too. Oh, never mind. You can’t fix stupid.
That was mean and uncalled for. Did Tamara run off to Tahiti with Banjo and leave you in charge? Don’t think so.
I tried to like that but can’t. That was mean and not called for at all
Ya? Methinks I can comment as I did.
Commenters don’t attack and name call other commenters on this site.
No names were called bud.
you don’t have to use names to be tacky and insulting as you’ve proven here
You can’t fix nasty and mean spirited either .
Totally uncalled for. Enjoy the WLS.
Why don’t you let TT tell people what to do here. Pretty sure this is her site, not yours.
Hi Ashley….
Said the fool who uses putting down other women to find self worth
Hi ashley
Let’s all hope JD isn’t drunkenly guffawing at the PoloEvent. Production should insist Ashley ride a horse tho.
Neigh, I bridle at the suggestion!
Good one!
Ashley said in Hilton Head that she’d never ridden a horse. She has a picture from 2015 on her instagram where she’s on a horse.
In answer to comments, she said that the picture was in a corral, whereas in HH it was in wide open space. Fair enough, but she told Thomas several times she had no idea what to wear. In the Instagram picture she’s wearing black jeans and cowboy boots! Totally perfect riding clothes. So if nothing else, the clothing conundrum was a lie.
She was waiting for Thomas to hand over the credit card. All those hints and he didn’t budge. Good for him! I still think he’s an ass though 😆
I cannot help that every time Ashley comes on the tv I want to punch her in the face. She disgusts me. And Thomas I want to hang by his shorthairs and beat the shit out of.
You are not alone!!!! I’m right there with you!!!! 🙂
Danni seems so genuine. She’s such a good friend to Kathryn. I wish they’d make her a full time cast member.
Poor Katherine! A lot of us have been there.
I like reading the recaps before the shows come on out here in the Wild West. That way, I can catch more of the subtleties. (Well, except with Ashley there is nothing subtle.) I am glad Kathryn is OK but I hate the gratuitous storyline doing her and other people who have worked hard on sobriety and depression a disservice. Likely they think they are performing a service by highlighting the dangers of going off meds too rapidly, but I doubt that was the intent. I hope you feel better soon TT.
I’m on vacation visiting family and my uncle doesn’t have cable, so your recap was like a godsend TT! Excellent job, as always.
Hope your tummy rumbling has stopped!
I watched it live streaming on my laptop, I love technology
My favorite line of the night was Craig saying he just needed 1 more day on the pillow design.
THIS!
YES!!!
YES! So funny.
And that was NOT flower arranging! He out different bunches in a vase!
Oh wait, I guess that’s on par with his pillow “design” too.
They really portrayed him badly last night!
I really don’t like Naomi.
I was kinda shocked to see Ashley at Patricia’s house again.
Craig is my favorite along with Patricia. They’re both so eccentric. I feel for Craig. Hope they keep him and not exploit him. My house is a mess and I’m a procrastinator. I think the other people have maids.
Hope you’re feeling better Tamara!
I cried at the end when Kathryn was talking about her depression and coming off her meds.
WTF was Ashley talking about being vindicated???
Excellent point about Ashley, JoJoFLL!
Have not watched yet, but betting I will cry too.
The brain prickles and lights when I was coming off Zoloft were weird.
Wishing I could send Kathryn some love
@KathyD – you are right. I started tearing up when Kathryn shared her story. While she chose TRav for awhile, it was more than awful what he put her through and I am so glad she is turning the corner and on a new path. Kudos to her!
Part of me wishes Kathryn would not share so much. I will never trust Ravenel and his attorneys, they do not need extra information on or ammunition to use against Kathryn.
Yes, I had those same thoughts while watching. I would have some trepidation if I were Kathryn that Thomas would somehow twist her coming off the meds and crashing into a negative to be used against her. I did not like the way production steered things last night.
She didn’t let Danni & Naomi in because she was afraid to talk about her issues on camera. She was afraid that we would judge her poorly. Production must have convinced her that it was safe to talk about without any shame.
KathyD – Brain prickles – brilliant! Have been trying to describe that feeling for years – you nailed it perfectly. Thanks.
I called them brain whirls, it felt like my brain would make a quick turn, took me forever to wheen off!
You are welcome. They were awful.
I called mine “brain zingers” …made me very dizzy and nauseous….couldn’t drive and barely walk. Zoloft was the worst to get off of….I recently got off of Symbalta because my insurance wouldn’t pay for it. Not NEAR as bad as Zoloft .
Idk, but I still find Craig so endearing, and it is hard to cut flowers with your left hand in a contraption. Felt so sorry for Kathryn having to disclose about the depression meds, but don’t we all wish we had a friend like Dani? True blue. Ashley going to talk to Patricia – ugghhhh, and that bracelet Thomas gave her was fugly. And I don’t think I would ask anyone to drink my breastmilk because that is for one’s baby. So to offer it to an outside adult male… ewwwww. This episode had a weird vibe. Hope you are feeling better and do not have food poisoning TT!
I was surprised at the breast milk scene. Very crude and I’m surprised Jason was cool with that. Not gonna lie, my husband tried mine but would not be cool with me sharing it with my male friends!
Agreed! That whole scene was revolting between the breast milk and Cameran chewing with her mouth open. I love Cam, but she needs to work on her table manners.
This comment makes me uncomfortable. Her husband doesn’t own her, her breasts, or her milk. That belongs 100% to Cameron and she can do whatever she wants with it. The idea that a woman would need to get her husband’s permission to share something that she alone has made out of her own body, and that has nothing to do with her husband, as he doesn’t use it or need it, seems rather misogynistic to me. Breast milk isn’t sexy or flirty either, and it’s not like she asked her friends to actually drink from her breast.
This guy is married to Cameron, so I’m sure he’s very much okay with the show, her guy friends, and the wacky stuff she does on the show and with her guy friends. He chose Cameron, but she also chose him, and I don’t think Cameron is the type of woman who would choose a controlling husband she needs to get permission from for everything.
I think the control that people want to exert over another woman’s milk is annoying. (I’m not insinuating you think these things, this is just a tangent I’m going off on, now.) The woman MUST breastfeed her baby, she should never bottle feed or have to supplement with formula, but she also MUST stop by the time baby is 2 or else it becomes inappropriate and gross. We should never see her breast feeding, but she must answer all questions about it. We should never see her pumping and she should hide any signs of breast pads or leaking nipples. We shouldn’t see her breast milk in a shared refrigerator, though she must pump if she’s working. She should also never let anyone else taste her breast milk, except maybe her husband, but some people also find that gross/inappropriate.
Breastfeeding is just another huge thing the internet gets obsessed over at times.
I remember how all the female relatives discussed it, no big deal. That was the old days.
Well said Amy. I couldn’t agree more. Whether one thinks it’s gross to playfully pour some disposable breast milk into a shot glass and offer it up to goofy friends or not, it’s HER milk to do what she wants with. Whether she feeds it to her baby, pours it down a drain gives herself a facial with it, or jokes around with friends over it. To imply it was some weird sexual thing that she needs to ask her husband permission over is ludicrous IMO. I am sick of general society making breastfeeding/breast milk a judgmental topic. Lighten up peeps.
Actually, Craig has his RIGHT hand in the splint–so he is having to do everything left-handed. So basically he is doing everything with only one hand, and that hand is his nondominant one.
Thomas in that purple 👚 tucked tightly into those white jeans! He must have laid of his alleged extracurricular activities!
Lol-I thought the same thing. Or maybe he usually wears Man Spanx and forgot them that morning! Trust me, I have no room to talk, but then, again, I’m not on tv! (And you are welcome for that-ha!)
Thank you, TT for an exceptional recap. May the rumbles depart soon.
Dani- thank you for being such a good friend to Kathryn- she really needs you.
Danni is the friend we all need.
Just when I’m 100% Team Craig he acts like a dummkopf again and blows it all. When he was talking to his attorney friend, he looked almost astounded that the guy thought his idea for making pillows was “farcical” – no business plan, no real designs, just ideas in his head. When the friend asks him if he needs a job, Craig says yes, but not working for someone else – he wants to work out of his home. Incredulous look follows from attorney friend. He presses Craig for details and that’s when Craig says ‘pillow designer’. Craig??!! Then Patricia calls and wants to see work in progress. He looked like he’d rather give birth to an eleven pound baby elephant, without medication, than go to her house. He dragged his feet as long as he could, but eventually showed up while her potpourri went bad. To say Patricia was underwhelmed with what he showed her would be putting it mildly. First, she points out that he needs to work on his drawings so that they don’t look like clipart (hello, Patricia, that’s exactly what they are), then she tells him he can’t just copy designs off the internet. Duh!! I thought she was very gentell in the way she told him they were done, and he looked like a clueless fool. Craig!! Come on! You can do better than that, can’t you?
Why did they make Kathryn look so bad? Although to be fair, she should have been in touch with her friends, even if she just said I need a break, I’m turning off my phones and vegging out. Danni doesn’t let her get away with her excuses and lets her know how much everyone was worried. The problem with antidepressants is that you get to feeling so much better and you think you’re OK, and stop taking them. Then the poop hits the fan because you really desperately needed them. Poor Kathryn – I was so touched when she was explaining how she felt – the kind of stress she was undergoing dealing with Ashley had to have been horrendous, and she managed to keep so calm, outwardly. Obviously, it still took a toll on her and she could only go so long without it showing.
Well, with the news today that Thomas and Ashley are probably still together, I didn’t listen to much they had to say. He’s stupid, she’s nuts. Case closed.
***genteel*** (which I no longer am)…
I am hoping the scene with Kathryn claiming to have checked out for a week was just for the show. I would hope she be available if her children needed anything. If production set her up it was a major disservice to her. Obviously the job she has isn’t real or they have a really lax attendance policy. I don’t think this little Southern Charm Girl Power cliche is as tight as they would like s to believe.
I don’t care about Ashley and Thomas whether they are together or apart as the very best thing for Kathryn would be to move on and give up on Thomas. She seems so desperate to be with him. Ashley seems perfect for Thomas. I hope no one is cheering for Thomas and Kathryn to get back together.
HI Ashley
Ashley is the Dorit of Southern Charm.
You’ve got that right
If T Rav is able to wiggle his way out of the allegations at least he will be shackled to Ashley for all eternity. She ain’t going nowhere. She looks increasingly deranged on this episode. How long do you think it took him to realise his paid companion is now his permanent gatekeeper?
I hope not and not for Thomas’s sake- for his kids. Ashley has shown her true nature. She despises their mother. I’d keep her far away from those kids. Thomas can roast in hell for all I care.
The arrogance of men like Thomas to insist they want a lovely traditional family yet neglect to include their expectations of a social life that exists only for them is archaic and idiotic. What a jackass. Although, when I make meals for my small kids I often feel like a waiter too!
I hope that if these friends are show driven, that Kathryn does have some support in her life. I have been where she is, I know it only too well and there are not many friends who put up with someone who can’t be consistent and it only makes it worse to go through your twenties and learn to let those friendships go. Fair weather friends are not worth having.
Thomas’s traditional wife always looks fashionable, gives sex on demand, she needs to get along with his parents and everyone that is important to him, never questions him and does she is told. I think those days are gone.
He isn’t rich enough for that kind of wife.
Or old enough.
No decent man would ever treat his spouse that way, nor have those expectations.
Thomas isn’t a decent man though.
Not even a fraction of a decent man! A reptilian creep.
I wasn’t so upset with how Kathryn’s story was presented. I have a dear friend that has battled depression and anxiety for years. A few years ago she was going through a very tough time so I invited her to move into my guesthouse until she got on her feet again. She was doing great and then one evening she was driving home and hit a deer. She had slowed enough that it didn’t appear that she had done the deer or her car any damage but she came home and locked herself into her little house and turned off her phone. My guest house is connected to my house by a deck but for over a week she stayed holed up inside. I was scared to death and resorted to peeking through cracks in the blinds or watching for lights at night just to know she was alive.
I think Kathryn’s story was the important story in last night’s show but I also think it was important to show what people that love someone with her struggles go through in those situations. I don’t think Kathryn has had any real adult friends that really love her so she didn’t realize her disappearance would affect anyone the way it did. I hope she realizes now that there are people that care.
Well said. Thank you
I agree, well said. I’ve “disapeared” numerous times in my life. It’s horrible trying to explain to the people who care but it’s also a situation where I had to do it. Painful memories but I get it Kathryn !
Didn’t like this episode either. Ashley needs medications for all 12 of her personalities. I just can’t with that. Hopefully the Winter Ball will be much more interesting.
Feel better, TT!!!! 🙂
Kathryn’s struggles really rang true and Danni is a true hero. Tough episode for me.
I don’t think the girls are that close either. I am sure Kathryn would have answered a call about her kids but didn’t feel up to talking to Danni or Naomie. It seems like Kathryn has some trust issues an puts up a bit of a wall when it comes to friends. I don’t blame her after the way pretty much the entire cast took Thomas’ side and treated her like shit. I do hope she lets her guard down for certain people like Danni. I think Danni is the real deal and cares about Kathryn.
It would SEEM that she would answer their calls, but depression does not follow logic. Even though it appears production dramatized the incident, Kathryn’s explanation about her behavior rang true as far as depression goes. Luckily, it appears her boss is not going to fire her. I have no difficulty following that she has not felt worthy of having true friends and such. Danni is a person who has seemed solid since first appearing on the show. I wonder what she does for a job now that JD’s “empire” has crashed and burned.
Katherine’s job is an internship. I interpreted that as meaning that she’s not being paid while learning the ropes. In exchange, Gwinn’s gets great publicity and tall, beautiful Katherine wearing their clothes to promote them.
Kathryn’s “job” was to provide free advertising for Gwynn’s in exchange for what looks like free clothes in perpetuity. She’s always dressed by Gwynn’s on IG and I am sure that reunion dress was provided by Gwynn’s too.
TRav and Ashley…a match made in heaven. 😃😃😃 he reminds me of of my ex, so that’s unpleasant.
I thought the breast milk scene was hilarious. Can’t believe they tried it. Many years ago at work, someone sent email asking where’s the coffee cream. Someone else responded that we ran out of it and were using Xs breast milk . Chaos ensued, not the least because X was OCD and would wrap up her milk like it was nuclear waste. Yeah, good times.
Craig is a dilettante and would drive me crazy. A sloppy dilettante at that.
In the breast milk scene, I did happen to notice how absolutely delighted Cameran looked as Shep and Whitney were approaching to join her. Go back and compare it to her entrance/reactions at the girl party. I have no issue with their strong friendship, I guess. But it has always seemed a little odd. To be honest, if my husband looked that delighted at a female friend of his, I would be uncomfortable. There is certainly nothing untoward, I suppose, but I just feel its a little strange.
But it takes all kinds. To each his or her own. Whitney is one of the Executive Producers. Maybe I would react that way to my boss who hired me to make a lot of money.
Cameran always struck me as “one of the boys” yet all girl. She shares “girl stuff” with her male friends for shock value, comparison, reality checks and has a level of trust w/her male friends because there is NO sexual tension, they are just friends. IMHO the female mystique is still alive and well. As one of the “guys” Cam breaks down little walls of misunderstanding or confusion all on her own…I know women like her… She struggled with motherhood until she became a mother…not abnormal at all!!
Some (people) know they want to be parents, some know they don’t know, some don’t want to have children and everything in between.
I’m happy she’s shared the good, bad ugly and happy. I want her rib plate too!
Kipper I enjoy your insightful comments,
The story line seemed very contrived. I don’t remember Craig being this scattered.
I agree – he’s been pretty flaky at times, but those scenes with Patricia and his friend, the attorney, were above and beyond.
Craig always expects the world to wait for him. He has been like this since day one. Remember Naomi’s charity event? Last night he was very shaky though and is too thin.
So THIS is what was behind Ashley’s IG post about her anxiety and stress levels. She was trying to quick get sympathy from people for her “struggles” before the episode aired and people sided even more strongly with Kathryn for what she’s going thru. Oh, girl we see thru you!
Ashley is just such a self-promoting, trashy woman. She does not have one bit of empathy for others in her and is dishonest through and through – even to herself I guess.
Why did Ashley decide to go off meds. She is doing well, managing her life well so why that decision? It’s not a medically supervised thing or she would have tapered off. This is where the addicts I know go off the rails and start self medicating when they can’t figure out what’s wrong. I hope this ws done for the storyline, not in reality
I can answer this ONLY from my own experiences and many others I know who have been on antidepressants. It makes NO SENSE to people not on the meds, or those of us on them sometimes, but it is common for people to go off the meds once the meds start working. Some feel that they no longer need them, some just want to “be a normal person.” Some experience weight gain. I have gone off the meds when my insurance ran out, and for “no good reason.” That is one thing about depression — it is not logical.
Ashley or Kathryn?
I smell cat lady.
The only thing I really noted about this episode was yet another pair of white pants on Thomas. Funny.
I guess the white pants have taken the place of the seersucker suit as THE Southern Gentleman’s summer attire. I do always giggle at those white pants too. No one has mentioned TRav’s bathroom sink bubble-blowing. So weird. I hope the kids don’t try that at home. The other gauche behavior was the glass banging to get the waiter’s attention. Slightly better than if he had called out “garçon, garçon” (the French equivalent of “boy, boy”) in his Pepe Le Pew French accent. (Gotta love Patricia for that one!)
I figured they are all he can fit into now….along with the gut-profiling blue sweater! He is probably to narcissistic to buy anything in a bigger size!
Which one?
I’m just hoping Kathryn will meet a man who deserves her. The best revenge is living well.
As the mother of a male child, I would be terrified to have Kathryn any where near my son. She is unbalanced and has a truckload of issues. Wishing her well is fine but I am not sure there is any man that deserves her. We see a very controlled Kathryn who can’t seem to hold it together for an entire season.
Sadly this entire show has become the bargain basement of Vanderpump Rules where people hook up just for TV time and create conflict. There are two people who need to smarten up and it is because they are parents. Tearing Ashley down, while mildly entertaining and easy to do, does not elevate Kathryn to some higher plane. Kathryn needs to do something interesting and watching her parent isn’t my idea of a good show. What Kathryn and Thomas have provided is the backbone for the show. None of the other characters seem to have the ability to sustain a relationship and quite honestly watching a bunch of thirty somethings looking for love is kind of tired.
Well I think Kathryn is doing very well in the circumstances of what she has to put up with on a daily basis.
It will get easier for her, the kids will get older and be more aware for a start – and that will help curb the disgusting behavior Thomas exhibits, which must be such a worry to Kathryn.
At base, she is a really nice person who had to handle way too many problems, too early, and up against a cruel user of an older man. She showed at Hilton Head how fundamentally kind and well mannered she is by trying to make room at the dinner table for Ashley, despite the appalling behavior Ashley had subjected her to the night before at the restaurant. She has shown grace and class in co-parenting with Thomas lately despite his sexual assault troubles.
I am quite sure an intelligent and discerning male will have no difficulty appreciating Kathryn and loving her in the future. That sort of male will also no doubt have a mother who will also see who she is and love and appreciate her.
Well said Mackie40,
Who holds it together day after day? Everyone falters from time to time. Everyone has a bad day or bad week from time to time. She didn’t rage, she didn’t verbally attack anyone, she didn’t get drunk. Nope, that’s Ashley doing those things. Kathryn can’t hold it together through the season? Ashley can’t even hold it together for one episode.
So fucking rude valley view. Who do you think created the truckload of issues for her? Thomas’s ass. She was fine before she met him and she is amazing without him. You need to take several seats and leave Kathryn the fuck alone.
Wow this is so judgmental and unloving. I feel bad for your son and their potential future spouse.
It’s the sort of comment that Mother in Law movies are made of…
Totally! Sounds like my first M I L. She constantly tried to do her son’s thinking. I was glad to move on and can hardly remember what he looked like now. Poor guy.
Thanks, Valley View, oh, I mean Ashley!
Valley..Let’s be cool. Don’t be uncool.
Hi Ashley
Michael the Butler’s seersucker shirt was the best. I want to find that fabric and make myself one.
Craig, honestly. If this is not contrived storyline, Craig would do well to take a class (even online) about business and art. You never want the client calling, asking where the art is. And I thought he knew law? Never use internet stuff as your own. If he was at all serious, he would have a sketchbook and pen by him at all times. An 8 hour workday of drawing/narrowing concept is common.
I loved the breast milk scene. It accurately portrayed the dynamic of the three. And I udderly (hah!) understand how one day you are a modern woman, and 48 hours later you are squirting milk.
But what is it with Whitney and the spit-takes this season? Who has to clean it up?
Danni is wonderful. I wonder what she made for Cameran? It was framed and mosaic. I think it was a mosaic of her sonogram? Anyway, what I saw from Danni was the best reality.
Kathryn, I can see how closed off she is. And I hope she was available if her kids needed her. What made her so shut-off emotionally?
Apparently Ashley has not heard that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Was gonna comment on Ashley’s plus one. But he adores attention, so, no. Never again commenting on him.
ALL or Craigs “jobs” on this show have been faked. It’s a joke every year. Surely no one believes that Craig is making pillows for some company Patricia doesn’t have.
Alright, I have to admit I’m considering ordering a caftan for my sister-in-law who just lost her beloved pup. They’re a little pricey, but I think she’d love it.
Don’t want to break any rules by referencing another site(!), but just noticed Naomi is featured with Patricia and I think Gizmo is on her caftan.
I saw the PERFECT job for Craig. I finally watched Parts Unknown – Cajun Mardi Gras. One of the best episodes ever. I wish I could live among those people in that beautiful place. Craig could make those TRADITIONAL-style Cajun Mardi Gras costumes. They are colorful and they don’t have to fit perfectly and the style is forgiving. The most detailed part is the fringe and it is pretty wide so he wouldn’t have to make 45 million tiny cuts. I just don’t know how they might feel about jerking their culture, though.
The whole idea of designing pillowcases was out of left field. That’s NOT what Craig had been doing. He bought an expensive sewing machine with embroidery attachments and he just picked one for each case! He would select a dog for a pillowcase and the machine would stitch it.
When he first tried, Naomi wasn’t sure it was a dog.
When he gave a onesie to Cameron he messed up the bear on it.
He was playing at being a male seamstress (I don’t know what it’s called, a sewer maybe), not a designer at all!
Out of the blue Patricia thinks he should DESIGN a pillow case when all he’d ever had interest in was SEWING the pillow cases.
HIs interests have not been sketching or draping, etc. Law, carpentry, gardening, and sewing are not artistic.
It seemed so fake because she did not ask him to design fabric. He does BASIC rectangular pillows, sewn sloppily. Patricia did not give him fabrics and ask him to use them for inspiration, nor did she suggest he make some pillows to go with her “collection.” A no-brainer would have been to blow up some dog heads from her caftan prints, make a pillow in that shape with (machine) embroidery and some beading details. She has PLENTY of things in her house that could inspire designs. I can think of three as I have been writing this.
At least three of those things are very artistic.
I love this comment you made: If he was at all serious, he would have a sketchbook and pen by him at all times. An 8 hour workday of drawing/narrowing concept is common.
I also fault Patricia. At the initial visit when he said “What do you think, 10 days?” Why did she reply “Let’s say 2 weeks.”
Knowing how he procrastinates, a better response would have been “Yes, but let’s touch base in 3 days”. She could have at least kept him from going fabric shopping. As she said in the most recent episode “Don’t worry about the fabric.”
All of the feedback in this episode could have been given at the one-week mark or whenever (e.g. “Don’t use anything from the internet.” “Don’t make it look like Clip Art”. “Don’t worry about the fabric.”)
Letting him go 2 months with no status report or guidance reeks of production giving him enough rope to hang himself! Hence her phone call asking “Can you come by in an hour?” LOL!!! So the drama of him scurrying to get his presentation ready quickly and her tapping her foot asking “Where’s Craig?”
It was both funny and sadly true. Not to be all “one time, at band camp…” but while in art school, I watched a friend pull together a 3d art project for critique in 10 mins.
He used a fake plastic crow and red yarn he found.
The rest of us had labored weeks and he pulled it out his ass. Did a magnificent talk to go with it.
Seeing Craig scramble reminded me of those days. But, again, art school vs real life.
Production had a hand in it. Still amusing. And there are dozens of places online to get custom fabric made.
Sounds like you are in the art biz. You know how it goes.
Who among us hasn’t occasionally been overwhelmed and needed to retreat from the world for a few days to regroup? With Kathryn, that urge must be 100 times what a normal person goes thru, since she has been battered by Thomas and Bravo for years (and now Ashley). Exploiting this was a very dishonorable move by Bravo (but then they specialize in exploiting women). I do not give any props to Danni or Naomi for participating in this sorry display. If they were really friends of Kathryn, they would have refused to have anything to do with further pressuring her on camera. Shame on all of them.
But then, of course, there is always the possibility that Kathryn willingly participated in this as a part of her “storyline”. That wouldn’t surprise me, either, unfortunately.
I think it was just stress overload. As you say, we have all had the occasional day we wanted to shut the world out.
And you are right that she was not the one who behaved very badly at Hilton Head.
I also think she was making sure she got herself together before picking up the kids.
For those of us who have ever quit antidepressants cold turkey, we know the hell she went through. I’m surprised she was able to get herself together to pick up her kids. It’s a HORRIFIC experience and no one has any idea how to help. You have brain zaps, you are disoriented, you feel like crap, you are extremely irritable, people breathing makes you want to kill them. It’s HORRIBLE.
It wasn’t just stress and needing to close off the world, it was detoxing off drugs that fuck with your brain. This is why I never will never go on them again. I did try a few others after the first horrific detox but they were not effective.
This
You said this so well. I was fortunate that I did not have a bad experience because I could not afford the meds when I changed jobs. But I have too many friends who have gone through what you describe. I have been using flax seed oil (works for menopausal symptoms too!) and it works better than the SSRIs ever did.
Sounds terrible!! It would be very frightening I think.
Amen.
the scene that cracked me up was the Thomas giving Ashley a gift scene. That was not a pretty bracelet. And a pretty awkward moment.
Thanks for the well wishes guys. I ate from a Mexican food truck on Wednesday and think maybe that was the problem. I had a weird headache yesterday and felt weird and by the time I was recapping this I was having lots of issues. I was in bed by eleven or so and slept for twelve hours. I feel much better today,
Sorry for crapping out on the recap……LITERALLY.
When your stomach goes, it is hard to operate! So glad you are better today!! 👍
The recap was FINE. I am impressed you could do it when you were sick. It was better than the show. Maybe not up to your standards, but SOMETIMES “good enough” is good enough. Glad you are feeling better.
Thanks Nanette!
Last season Shep got the bad edit. This season Craig is.
He could gain some points by buying Kathryn’s new phone with his mailbox money!
Craig certainly has creative inclinations, but he seriously lacks craftsmanship. Yes, artists and designers have to be diligent and committed too. I think Craig just needs to be left alone. He doesn’t have to turn sewing into a profession. He doesn’t have to turn law into a profession. His job is being a reality star and he’s good at it and he seems to invest his money well.
Exactly. And if he likes playing with the monogram feature on a sewing machine, for the love of God let the guy enjoy want he wants!
Maybe he could embroider the Morgan crest —or just the deer — on pillows for Sonja Morgan Lifestyle. You know that’s coming… (I did like a lot of the tchotchkes in her townhouse.
I think he could do well as a pet sitter. He has the connections with wealthy people and we have seen him bond with Gizmo and he is sweet. I think he could make a bundle. He could still have time for his creative pursuits.
Need him to sit my chickens so my son can quit doing it.
Well, having rewatched the episode, I noticed some things I missed the first time around. First, it really does seem to me that Craig could benefit from kindly and supportive one on one therapy maybe twice per week. The messy condition of the house tells me he is unhappy and needs to find his true calling, whatever that is. Also, Kathryn’s cracked phone seems to indicate maybe she can’t afford a new one, and, imo, she should be living in a house with a yard and I hope that the court will make TRav pay for exactly that and much more. In addition, Kathryn has been through so much, courtesy of TRav and Ashley, and with her then going off her meds – I think only the good Lord got her through. The poor dear. I felt so sorry for her, and my heart goes out to her. It has all been so unfair. Stay strong Kathryn, we love and admire you! Whitney really looked incredibly ill and vomitous after taking the breast milk, but not as ill as I am becoming every time I see Thomas and Ashley, or think of Ashley being anywhere near Kathryn’s children. And as for Thomas’ “poor me” remark that he always saw himself with children but never thought he would be raising them alone and not in a nuclear family? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? And whose doing was that? And what about your children who have been deprived of a nuclear family?
Yes. Thomas is full of self importance and feelings of entitlement but has no insight into who he has become. He is revolting. Even looks revolting now.
He can’t live his life again, but some intensive counselling/therapy for him might help him to begin to make amends to those he has harmed – particularly Kathryn and his children. (I am sure Ashley has been paid in full.)
And he appears to need treatment for what seems to be some kind of sexual deviance addiction that, combined with his entitled approach, will get him into more and more trouble and misery as he continues on into old age
Along with weird sex inferences, I keep seeing references to TRav and Ash doing coke, but is there proof — other than their behavior and appearances?
Have you watched the show long or read news about Thomas in the media recently?
However, can’t comment on the coke use – but certainly something triggers the irrational outbursts.
I think Kathryn’s unwillingness to confide in her reality show friends was, in part, because of the way she was treated in previous seasons. She was ostracized by all of the women, with the exception of Danni, who simply stood back on much of it. In watching the previous seasons, the ones that broke my heart regarding Kathryn were the shows where she was trying to be the “politician’s good wife” when Thomas was running for office, by dressing demurely, toning down her partying, and trying to be a part of the process and everyone ridiculed her and shunned her. Also, the scenes where she was trying to be “the good wife” by learning to cook and keep house, while waiting for TRav to come home from his buddies, per TRav’s direction. I saw a very young and insecure woman in these scenes just trying to find acceptance and be the person that she was being told she needed to be to fit in. No wonder she now has trust issues with this cast.
The scene with Danni was touching. I think Kathryn’s sees a true blue friend here.
Namoi’s repeated statements, on camera, about her concern that Kathryn is drinking and doing drugs again did Kathryn no good service. It felt like Naomi was thirsting for camera time by bringing up a volatile subject. If she were a true friend, she would have never implied such on camera and risked messing up child custody of that friend, even if she was thinking it. I would have never voiced it one camera. Instead, I would have had private conversations with other concerned friends in order to come up with a plan of action to help.
Agreed that this was the most boring episode ever. Nothing happened – literally. Big deal – K needed some time to herself. All the girls need to get their own lives and not flaunt K’s personal issues on camera when they don’t know what’s happening. What if she did have a relapse and these bitches putting it on camera cause her to lose custody of her children. Very irresponsible “friends”. No words for Ashley except FAKE everything and no emotional intelligence. I can envision Thomas nodding to that comment, but he himself has no emotional intelligence or intellig nice of any other kind.
It’s quickly becoming the case that the only interesting person on Siuthern Charm is Patricia. The rest are lowlifes. Want this show supposed to have some elites?? The characters’ homes are dumps. Fingers crossed that Patricia gets her own spinoff and stops hanging out with the Charleston Trash
I agree….might the show be on the way out? Many of the women…. ie-Pat, Chelsea, Dani have been brought up RIGHT and won’t act-ummmm……gossip worthy to put it nicely (even for Bravo) does anybody remember when TRAV tried to kiss Dani at his Edisto Plantation….she literally was visibly disgusted …..? Kathryn can’t act out because of her kids (and rightly so)…Naomie is southern but also French and while she does show out sometimes (in Vino Veritas) she then seems to feel bad and pulls back (her Daddy told her to BE NICE at the NICO opening) and Cameron….well…she just rebels against her etiquette teaching mother by chewing with her mouth open and doling out titty milk to her buddies Whitney and Shep. And the BOYS are ALL such a SHIT-show…..DAYUM!!!! All this but I still can’t bear to think that Ashley will remain….SHE AIN”T SOUTHERN AND NEVER WILL BE>>>> Whitney is going to have to cast a larger net and maybe get some new cast from other places in SOUTH CAROLINA….hint..hint….go to Clemson…!!!
One of the impressions I came away with after this episode is Craig hasn’t grown up yet. He behaves like
a little boy, bewildered because there’s no one walking behind him, cleaning up his messes. His childish
jumping from one enterprise to another shows his immaturity. No wonder he lost his girlfriend. She was interested in a man not a little boy. Craig has gotten by on his looks, but he should take a long look at
Tomas to see where his life style will lead him.
Thomas isn’t attractive any more. In the beginning, he still had some claim to youthful good looks. Now his
belly is overhanging his belt, and his face is ravaged by drink and whatever else he indulges in. If he wasn’t rich, no one would give him a second glance.
Shep is also aging out. He isn’t very pretty any more, and getting long in the tooth. Whitney, I’m not sure what he is. Is he gay or just a eunich ?
Austin is another with no plan for his future, and his folks aren’t helping any by giving him money. They should say, nope, gravy train is over, get a job.
It’s only the women who seem to have career paths and who realize they need to work to survive. If
Southern Charm is giving us an example of today’s man, we are in real trouble. When I was young, males were MEN when they reached 20 and 21. When men reached Thomas age, they were grandparents.
I’m not sure how the philosophy of weak men came about. Just because women have come into their own, that shouldn’t mean strong men should disappear. Seriously, who would want to marry any of these weak little boys?
Yes, the men are all hopelessly immature. In the background somewhere other men like Cameran’s husband are living old style, responsible lives. But not those featured on the show. New adult men, please!!
Also, one of the takeaways from this episode is that almost everything is boring, except when Kathryn is on the screen. Pat’s presence wears thin after one or two of her social pronouncements, and that’s about that.
Thomas put an ENTIRE UNPEELED BANANA on the baby’s plate.
I can’t get over that.
