Shahs of Sunset is poised to return on a new night for season seven on Thursday August 2nd. Yesterday the official trailer and press was released and Tamara Tattles can exclusively report that there were four cast members surprised by the press release. Before I explain all of that, let me post the official press below and then I will tell you what is really going on.
From the NBCu Media Villiage:
This season, MJ is poised to marry her Prince Charming Tommy in true Shahs fashion, but her pre-wedding glow is dulled when her opinionated mother Vida gets involved and her father’s health begins to rapidly decline. When MJ finds herself plagued by indecision and self-doubt, the whole crew must come together to keep her steady and help get her down the aisle. Well into the second year of wedded bliss, Reza and his husband Adam are in the process of renovating their brand new house and settling down, but tensions build when one of Reza’s investments interferes with Adam’s surrogacy plans. Mike, ever the alpha-male with unrealistically high expectations, is determined to find the next Mrs. Shouhed, but does not take well to bestie Reza’s input on his dating choices, leading to a heated standoff during MJ’s bachelorette party in Vegas. Destiney is eager to dip her toes into the dating pool, but realizes she must confront her own trust issues first. In an attempt to find peace, she hires a private detective to track down her absentee father, but what she finds leaves her questioning whether she can handle the truth.
After a recent failed marriage, GG is on a quest for independence, but rethinks her decision to remain single and try for a baby on her own when newcomer Nema showers her with attention. Joining this audacious crew is never easy, but Nema manages to hold his own and quickly finds himself in a complicated love triangle. Looking to get to the root of his ongoing relationship struggles as an adult, the group bands together to help Nema gain the confidence to confront his unconventional family about his broken upbringing.
This press release sent everyone into a tizzy over the lack of mention of Asa. Frankly, this was a bit of a surprise to Asa as well. Tamara Tattles can exclusively report that there were some major changes made to the season in post production. As all the final pieces were being put together two people were dropped as featured cast and two people were upgraded a bit.
At the beginning of filming (so very long ago) Asa did some major negotiating regarding her pay scale for her fulltime contract. She will be paid according to that contract. That said, during post production, there just was not enough there, according to Tamara Tattles exclusive sources to warrant her as a featured cast member (this is what we call “holding a peach” when discussing RHOA) in other words she will not be on every episode. She will still be on the show, and she probably doesn’t even know herself how many episodes it will be, but she will be paid according to her contract based on that number of episodes.
There were two reasons for this. First, Asa and Jermaine are very protective of the baby. It is doubtful that we will see either one on the show. She’s never publicly posted a photo of the baby. The first five episodes have been more or less completed and there no indication that the baby will be seen at all this season. Also, because the baby is so young, Asa was not able to go on the cast trips. The other thing is that Asa did not end things well with the rest of the cast last season and those relationships have not really mended. Asa is still very close with Adam and she has filmed with her family in her new brick and mortar store. But as we know, our pop priestess is done with the negativity and certainly doesn’t want it around her child. MJ is equally unhappy with Asa and doesn’t invite her to the wedding. However, Adam invites Asa as his plus one. There will probably be some will she or won’t she go to the wedding drama. So Asa probably doesn’t care too much about the change in status and was probably expecting it.
Sherv, on the other hand has also been demoted. He was not expecting it and was pissed to discover he was not mentioned at all in the press release. He too will not be appearing as a featured cast member. Sherv as we have seen doesn’t really disclose his real life on the show. That fake romance with the Australian girl was strictly for the cameras. They were never exclusive. This season, production wanted to show his man whoring ways and he was unwilling to do that. Especially after he got such a bad edit last season with the affair with the married girl being exposed and his attempts to discredit her on film. In addition, everyone wants to know where Sherv is getting all of his money from. He seems to have a lot with not discernible job. When production wanted to make his source of income part of his storyline he refused, Tamara Tattles sources have confirmed. That left them in post production with nothing but Sherv partying with the group and dropped him down to friend status.
This was good news for Destiney who has been waiting for her opportunity for a couple of seasons now. This is her time. Essentially, this season is all about Mercedeh. She loses her father and gets married in one season. Despite MJ only recently announcing the passing of her father, well after her wedding, he actually died before her wedding. That will all play out this season. Since she and Asa are no longer close, GG was the only female friend left and GG is as we know unpredictable and a bit self-involved. So Reza and Adam and Destiney play supportive roles to MJ as well. This lead to Destiney moving into to a more featured role which allows her to have her own scenes both dating and searching for the truth about her father.
Finally, the fourth person we will be seeing a lot of is Nema. Nema is introduced to the cast through Mike as one of his friends who does work in the “branding” industry. I am a bit leery of these branding guys. I suggest they be careful. Don’t believe me? Just ask Lilly? Tamara Tattles sources have shared that production was fascinated with Nema’s family history and had quite a bit of compelling footage about his family relationships they wanted to use which pushed him into the status of a featured cast member. He may be edited into some scenes before his actual introduction to the cast happens.
So I presume that means we will see MJ, GG, Reza, Mike, Destiny and Nema in the upcoming promotional photos.
As for Reza and Adam, production has been pushing them to get a baby this season but Tamara Tattles sources say that does not happen. Asa speaks the truth in the promo when she says she doesn’t even know if Reza wants a baby. What he wants is to keep his job with RSP so he is playing along as if he is interested in getting a baby soon. Don’t hold your breath. Mike and Reza continue to be frenemies this season running hot and cold. GG seems to have moved on from her ex but there is no guarantee we will not see him on the show again. You know how GG is. She is going to mess with the new guy a bit as well. Mike will be dating. He has a new girlfriend this season and we shall see if they make it until the end of the season.
