There was not much to report today which was great because I was out in THE WORLD for about FIVE FREAKING HOURS getting shit done. I was feeling good today and when that happens, I try to get as much done as possible. Between today and a week from tomorrow I had/have a tons of stuff to do. So far in the last 24 hours I have paid my quarterly taxes, renegotiated my car insurance premium that is due Monday, gotten an emission test for my car, gone to the DMV to get my new car tag detail, and gone to get demi glace on my hair (because I needed a quick fix for my upcoming Drivers license photo.) Tomorrow I hope to get new tires because mine are dry rotted. Monday I have to pay my new insurance premium. Tuesday is the dreaded drivers license day maybe. I may wait until Wednesday since they are closed on Sunday and Monday so Tuesday may be busy. Fortunately, they give wait times online. That will get me through most of the more traumatic deadlines this month. When it rains it pours.
I’m exhausted. I’ll probably be spending some time at the tire place tomorrow but I promise to put a Tomato Talk post at some point this weekend. Hopefully tomorrow. Sorry I missed it last week. I have tons of news to share.
Please share if you have weekend plans that are NOT SAD AND DEPRESSING about your weekend plans. I’ve her enough about death and dying and grieving, and sickness and things that make us all sad.
Post something to make us smile. Banjo is not too pleased about my constant trips out into THE WORLD.
One thing I HIGHLY recommend is that you read Lady C’s latest Pose recap! It’s fabulous and full of things you might find educational. There are a lot of layers to this show. You don’t have to watch it to enjoy the recaps.
Look at all your energy! Way to go TT!! You are on a roll. Do you think the weather helps?
I am gearing up for a big family dinner party next weekend – just playing with the menu. Also helping with 5year old grandson’s birthday party the following weekend. This morning was hunting little plastic animals as give-aways and treasure hunt items. Must get onto my tax very soon though! Garden in good holding pattern at the moment.
Working all weekend but hope to go see a matinee of the new documentary on Mr. Rodgers. I love going to the movies so I am looking forward to that. Have a great weekend to all ! You got alot of things done today. I am impressed.
So on my list to see!!! I have a Movie Pass – got it during Oscar season so watched the shit out of nominee films (saw all the BP nominees AND all the shorts… seriously, see the shorts!)
Can’t wait for Mr. Rogers, RBG, and Jurassic World. Yup, I’m diverse and eclectic!!!
Please post your review. If that is permitted.
I thought it was exceptional. Also RBG is great too. Dying to see the new Whitney Houston documentary opening in few weeks.
Well, I’m leaving my home in the bush, where we live off grid beside a creek, to help my Dad out while my mother is away at a family reunion. I’m going to go out in a minute and pick bags of citrus: oranges, both valencia and navel, grapefruit, the sweetest mandarins, lemonade, tangelo to take up to my family. I operate a food van here, so I’m bringing Dad a ‘care package’ of savoury rolls (mince and veges in a light sauce in puff pastry), triple chocolate muffins, carrot cake and quiche. I have also just made the most incredible strawberry cake. I know that probably sounds like ‘so what’, but trying to make a pastel pink cake, which doesn’t rely on food colouring or flavour from strawberries is a real challenge. I can’t believe how fragrant and strawberry intense this thing is! The trick is in pureeing and reducing fresh strawbs and using powdered freeze dried strawbs in the icing (frosting). I wish i could give you a scratch and sniff. It’s gorgeous This was just a test. I’ve discovered, just like never getting a haircut right before an important event, never cook anything you haven’t cooked before for the van. No matter how simple it looks! It’s Australia, so here it’s winter. My tomatoes are green and not ripening, why do they keep pushing out fruit though?? We don’t have a culinary history of doing anything with green tomatoes here, so I need to figure something out. It seems a shame to waste them. So that’s my weekend, sans any depressing stuff! Dad isn’t well, but it’s a mitzvah to spend time with him and I love it. I’m going to stuff him full of treats while I’m there and try to get him out of the house, which he loves, but he has mobility issues. This site gives me great pleasure and I’m happy to hear you, TT, have had a productive couple of days, it always feels good.
I don’t see how anything tops this comment, but I can’t wait to hear from the others. Meanwhile, can I come live with you?” 🙂
Not until you get the tires you have been talking about for months. You could accidentally end up in a ditch. It is seriously so easy, run down S. Cobb to that delapidated house with the tire sign on it. Nicest people in the world. They wont cheat you and will take care of your tires as ling as they last which in your case is about 20 yrs
As it turns out, tires dry rot after a decade or so.
Hi Tamara. Glad you’re doing better. Be sure to get Michelins, they are well worth the extra cost. I just got back from New York City and am wound up from all the stimulus. Just what I needed after being in a k hole for a couple of months. I wanted to share with you an anecdote related to Anthony from last Monday. If you feel up to hearing it let me know and I’ll email you.
Take care and enjoy your garden. XO
No fried green tomatoes in Austraila? I know that is turning a healthy food into an unhealthy food but I love ’em.
Tomatoes for fried green tomatoes are best when they are teensy tiny bit turning pinkish.
Soak slices in some buttermilk for a bit. dip in egg, bread with cornmeal or flour or as a do a mix of both. My mama did cornmeal only. Most chain restaurants do just flour.
In the south we like to make sure we make our healthy veggies as unhealthy as possible. I coat my red tomatoes in mayo.
We’ve had such rough thunderstorms for the past week. My plants aren’t looking so good and I’ve rescued lots of green ones that fell during yesterday’s round of storms. Maybe I’ll fry them this evening. They were just starting to ripen so I think they’ll do good. I’m glad we planted early; these have produced such yummy tomatoes.
Fried Green Tomatoes, my dear! A southern (USA) delicacy! Slice them horizontally, a little under one cm thick. Coat the slices in a cornmeal breading and fry in a skillet ‘til golden brown. Serve alongside whatever sauce you like. I like using a little Thousand Island dressing. They’re easy to make and I know you don’t want those pretty tomatoes to go to waste. Try it!
Well crap,
Sorry Tamara! I didn’t see your post! I should have known you’d suggest she make some good ole fried green ‘maters!’
That’s my mama’s recipe!!!
My mama taught me to mix flour in the cornmeal for everything, about 1:4. It makes coatings and cornbread less gritty. You can fry them crispy if you slice them, salt them then leave in a colander to drain some juice out for about an hour.
Green tomatoes are also good in tomato pie. Whether green or red you use tomatoes, onions & cheese. Drain the tomatoes then I use provolone or mozzaerella or provolone for red tomatoes and sharp cheddar for green tomatoes. Just layer those in a pie crust. Mmm mmm good
Muffin, thank you for that salting trick to pull water out of the tomatoes. So clever!
I’ve had too much biology to not have already known that. Shame on me. I also like to put some flour in the coating, for me 2/3 meal to 1/3 flour. What sauce, if any, do you like to serve with the FGT?
tomato pie is made with mayo. Sounds really gross but as it turns out, it’s not. I’ve actually only had it a couple of times.
Make Fried Green tomatoes with the green ones, you will love it!
You deserve a tiara or a giant trophy for Best Daughter Ever.
Where are you located in Aus? If you are within driving distance when you get home can I get buy some of that fruit!!! Have fun with your dad.
I live in a dot on the map called ‘Drake’, between Tenterfield and Casino in Northern NSW. Thanks everyone for the advice on FGT…but here’s the thing, we don’t even have what you call cornmeal here. We have ‘cornflour’ which is used mostly for thickening sauces and to create ‘cake flour’ when I use an American recipe (we don’t have ‘all purpose’ flour either. To make your cake flour, I have to add this kind of cornflour to what we call Plain flour). We have another verision of cornmeal that makes the Italian style cornbread. Oh lord, what a disappointment THAT was. I wanted to made the delicious looking Southern style cornbread, followed a recipe and ended up with this yellow jello which is the Italian style cornbread! I probably messed up, but it was gross. This was maybe 2 decades ago, so I’ve wised up a bit since. What do I have to do to get FGT and Cornbread here??! Thanks for sharing your Mama’s recipe, TT. I am going to persist in this quest, though my tomatoes are NOT blushing! And the lovely comments. Dad is doing well, I’ve just introduced him to the wonders of YouTube and he is listening to Barleycorn, an Irish band my parents fell in love with when we had World Expo 88 in my hometown, Brisbane. My 50+ year old mother became a groupie overnight and went to Ireland twice to see them in the years after! The weirdest and most wonderful thing is that in this tiny little place I live, one of the members of Barleycorn (there are only 3 in the original band), LIVES here now! The world is weird and wonderful sometimes and my mother is jealous. If you want to get your toes tapping, look up ‘A Place in the Choir’ by Barleycorn.
A life with no cornmeal? Are you allowed to import? 🙂 Sounds like you have two options, use whatever passes for flour in your parts, dip sliced tomatoes in egg, them pan fry, or try just salt and pepper and pan fry them nekkid.
Keep us posted!
Cornflour is just more finely ground than cornmeal. To add a bit of ‘grit’ to the coating before frying anyone could use all purpose flour (or cornflour for gluten free) cut with some rice flour.
I wrote to Curtis Stone once and he — or someone in his camp — answered. He may have answers for you. Perhaps online. Just a guess…
Amazon?
Just had girls night with some of my friends. And we just saw oceans 8 which is absolutely amazing!
Saw it today too…it was good.
Fuck the male critics who have been overly critical of the movie – Oceans 8 was so much fun!!!
Yes Oceans 8 is good so is Book Club.
Way to go, Tamara. It’s so hard when you feel weighed down by all the relatively little things in life, and it’s so hard to rouse yourself and get started. For some reason there’s a certain degree of fear involved for me, which I haven’t figured out yet. I’m the Empress of Procrastination, and I’m not getting any better, but it feels so good when you finally accomplish some of the things you’d been putting off. Funny thing is, you look back and wonder why it all freaked you out in the first place.
P.S.My 11 lb. excuse for a dog, aka Cheeky Chihuahua, asked me to tell you “she’s in heat and would like to know if Banjo is spoken for”? Hey, those are her words, not mine. Don’t kill the messenger. She’s getting fixed in a couple of weeks, so she’s a little desperate
Banjo is gay. He does prefer little dogs though. I am not joking. Little male dogs love him. Like is a homosexual way. I can’t tell you how many times a dog owner has said “OMG I am so sorry! Little twinky has never done anything like that before!”
Sorry about your little whore. 🙂
Well, at least he’s being his authentic self, although Cheeky says she is adaptable. Run it by him anyway.
Well, here’s where I need to apologize to Banjo on behalf of my innocent little Cheeky, who is sitting here looking up adoringly at me with her little brown eyes, wondering what possessed her mother to proposition such an upstanding member of the gay canine community as Banjo. I hate to admit this, but those were my words, not hers. Mea culpa.
You are just doing amazing work on your to do list!!!
I spent 5 hours today at an elder abuse awareness day conference which was very positive considering all the advocates in the audience and among the speakers.
The best was a kick ass, red haired femaie judge who ended her talk by bringing up a group that does flash mobs to dance to Footloose… and the judge joined them dancing.
Made my day.
Tomorrow I’m going on a tour of the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach.
Also practicing for two singing gigs next week.
Inspired by the gospel choir at the last royal wedding two or our songs are Stand By Me and This Little Light of Mine.
Tamara, it always happens for me, too, when there is a perfect storm of due dates for insurance and taxes and such. At least I renewed my license for 5 years in April, but all the other things keep coming around..
So, kudos for all you got done today!!
What made me smile today? Paul Manafort is in jail pending trial in September. That just tickles me. 😄
No plans for the weekend, but my sister and I have tickets to a show where cats perform. The cats are trained to do tricks and whatnot. It’s ethically done. The cats are well loved and treated with care and compassion. I can’t wait! The show is in Athens. GA, my sister’s and my old stomping grounds at UGA. I love Athens. We can’t decide which of our favorite restaurants downtown to visit. So many great choices.
I bought some new CBD oil today and it the first time I’ve had decent pain relief in ages. It’s also lifting my mood and giving me a little energy and motivation to do some things. I’ve been miserable for too long now. I am hoping this continues to work so I can get out of this funk.
If The Last Resort is still there, could you deliver a Southwestern Salad to me here in the ghetto? Please and thank you.
I wish it was easier for me to get there. The traffic between Atlanta and Athens is horrible and the highways are kind of terrifying with all the accidents.
Oh I loved that place! If I’m recalling the right place it was right across from the Georgia Bar? I lived at the Georgia Bar. Shame, shame.
I think we might go to The Grill and get some cottage fries with feta dressing. Mmmmm OMG orgasmic otherworldly flavor. The Gyro spot is no longer there, which is where we would rather go. They had no business closing that place!
We might have made out at GA Bar. I made out with a lot of people at that place. Good times.
I have made a great decision. I am finally getting out of Louisiana. Moving this weekend but istead of moving, we are storing. Hitting thr road on Monday for at least a month. We don’t have a plan which means this could be the best or worst road trip ever. Smyrna is first to store the furniture and spend some time with Mama. She is in Memory care there. Most of the time I think she doesn’t know anyone but she will say or do something to let me know she does. She is the reason I am retiring. The trip will be good and destressing but I will be there the rest of her life.
The tomatos already died, the peach tree and fig trees are loaded for the new owner so no picking for me. Yay
Call me Jack Kerouac. Most of you are too young to remember the name but give him a read. You may end up on the road with us..
This is a FABULOUS decision. Expect bumps in the road and a few fights, but it will probably be the best thing you have ever done in your life. Are you going in a car? Are you taking camping stuff? Are you driving a VW Van? Because I’ve thought of doing that so I could take Banjo with me somehow.
I am so excited for you! So you will be here tomorrow?
No VW van, A Ford Escape and my dogs go where I go. It’s a rule they have. My idea of camping is a hotel with no room service. I have been spoiled since my younger years. I do hope that we can go to Vermont. I have never been. A friend of mine opened a Gallery there fore the summer months. WE could have a ton of fights between here and Vermont.
I will be kissing the ground in Smyrna on Tuesday or Wednesday. Leaving Sunday for Dallas because it’s fun and so close.
What is fun about Dallas? How big are your dogs?
It’s. City so restaurants, shopping, friends. On the way there are flea markets, boot shops, wineries and stupid tourist like attractions. There is a wonderful flea market in Canton, TX with some of everything. It is called First Monday (now follow this logic) it is called First Monday because it is the first monday before the end of the month. This is the wrong weekend but I love it.
You can also drive 200 mph in TX and troopers don’t blink an eye. They say the state is so big that if you drive the speed limit you won’t get anywhere.
First Monday Trade Days are held on the weekend before the first Monday of the (new) month, not the first Monday before the end of the month. .
OH and the dogs are little, Maltese. I use to only have Old English Sheepdogs, even had a rescue for Old English Sheepdogs. When I moved to Buenos Aires, I took a Maltese. It is a big city with apartments so my big girls would be miserable. My nephew took them while I was gone. I discovered that travel, shopping or anything else was easier with the little ones. They are still dogs, have the heart of a Great Dane and will fit in a purse.
When my last OES died I didn’t want another dog but Mac needed a friend so I adopted another Maltese for him. I keep adopting one more to befriend the one I have. 🙂
By the way, no VW’s. Trump said there are too many German cars in the United States.
Konnichiwa Trump, I only drive the Beetle when the Lexus is in the shop LOL
Best of luck on your adventure. I enjoy your posts very much. I would love to read your travelogue if you have a place where you would post them. The dogs likely have their thoughts about this adventure too. Have you ever read Rita Mae Brown’s novels “written” by her protagonist’s cats and dogs? Some fun travel reading if you haven’t— light-hearted and well-written.
When you were talking about Dallas being SO CLOSE to Atlanta I assumed you had to be talking about Dallas GA. Thus the confusion about what I have been missing the past ten or fifteen years.
No, I am in Louisiana headed (finally) for Dallas TX which is about 4 1/2 to 5 hours, tomorrow then Smyrna, Ga and then who knows.
It’s almost worth the moving hell that has been mine for 2 days.
The weekend before the first Monday makes more sense,?I said that all wrong didn’t I? That is probably why I couldn’t follow the logic
My husband and I took off last summer for a month and just traveled with no real destination in mind and it was so much fun. Our only rules were that we would not stay in any big name motels and we weren’t making any reservactions ahead of time. We found a motel in Colorado that had their buildings facing a drive in theater screen and the rooms had speakers in them. You could lay in your bed and watch the movie outh the huge window. We found little mom & pop motels tucked into mountains and along rivers that were so relaxing and in Sante Fe, NM we found a wonderful place on a super busy street that was built like a Mexican town around a plaza full of flowers and birds. It was actually designated as a bird sanctuary. Once you got behind the walls surrounding it you had no idea there was traffic going by just 1/2 block away. We only got burned once and that was in Taos, NM on a Friday night. Everything was full so one of the places we stopped called around and finally found us a room. It was the filthiest room I’ve ever seen but I kept telling myself to pretend we were camping and made it through the night. I need another trip like that again real soon.
Enjoy your travels.
I’m reading this year’s Pulitzer prize winner “Less”, in it, the protagonist and his boyfriend go on a road trip. they each have a rule. One is that they have to stay in motels with a neon sign, the other is they have to eat the Special of the Day, no matter what it is! It’s a fun book. Your post reminded me of laughing at this section. And now I want a road trip too!
I’m putting that one on my summer reading list. Maybe I’ll recreate their journey. Thanks!
“Less” sounds fantastic. Muffintop needs to get it for her trip!
Woohoo it’s Friday😁….
I drove my 120-plus# LGD to get his balls chopped. No more chasing this beast every time the nugget forgets to latch the gate. Balls gone “Ranger” stays home and stalks my perimeter. Found crappy stunted fruit in garden threw it over fence to ping my “guard dogs” in the back of the head. They live for snacking on my sad attempts at self sustainment and enjoy my midget fruits and veggies.
Thank you Jesus for Publix.
I can’t say much on the political front because the spouse is a Trump thumper but myself and my boys are not so it’s like a fkn Alamo standoff around here.
I’m not above not removing the core to my spouses yucca dish just cause he needs to turn off Fox and get off FB. This text will self destruct after anyone reads that statement.
My lil sister turned 36 and I just could not. How the hell do women past 35 manage to shave both legs and still go dance all night in a posh bar?
I’m like it’s 7:56 let’s say our prayers and get to bed. If y’all feel good and are getting out in the world then I’m gonna scrape my fangs and wash my hair and get out there. I may put mascara on to look undead.
I’m waiting for the Pose recaps…in the meantime I’m in love with Vicelands “My House”. Have fun this weekend I can’t wait to read about all yall’s adventures.
Pose recap went up today. It’s fantastic.
Gina, fun comment. Thank you,
Gina-LOVE “scraping my fangs”, gonna use it but I’ll always give you credit.
My long-awaited gastric bypass surgery is scheduled for 7/23 in South San Francisco, about 40 min south of where I live. I see the surgeon in a month so…SHIT’S GETTING REAL!!! Started using my CPAP again last night (they refuse to do the surgery if you haven’t been using it-they want your organs to be ‘fully oxygenated’, yikes!) and restarting my “walking program'” of 5 min/day then increase it weekly. IMy goal is to build consistency rather than time at this point.
My sweet 22 yo kitty Leo passed peacefully in his sleep 2 weeks ago, now he & sister Rosa are in heaven battling the crap out of each other, which makes me smile. He came to me in a dream where he had his long arm wrapped around my leg and he was kissing/nibbling the back of my knee…thought it was weird until I remembered that after my mom passed, I had dreams that I KISSED THE BACK OF**HER**KNEES-I feel blessed & at peace. Planning on adopting an older pair (siblings or non) of kittehs when the timing is right
Leo is my profile picture…
Keep up the great work everyone 💖💕
Best of luck on your surgery. You picked a good time of year for recovery. Bay Area weather and all… moved from BA to Sac in March and it is hot already…
IKR? I hadn’t actually planned it that way, so I lucked out.I can’t STAND the heat {even the wimpy Northern CA heat!} so I’m relieved.
Thanks for your well wishes!
Yes I can relate to the Alamo comment. Last year the family skipped Thanksgiving at home together, one group stayed home the other dined at a four star restaurant buffet on Cannery Row right on the bay with the waves crashing just below.
Both groups were happy groups, we were all tired of playing nice.
Been sick and sending my daughter and a group of her classmates off to Washington DC for their eigth grade trip. Nothing like sending 5 teachers and 67 14 year olds from a small logging town in the Pacific Northwest to the east coast to start the day. They will spend 4 days there and then travel to New York to see the wtc memorial and the Statue of Liberty as well as a broadway show and then home. I will miss my girl but I also know she will have a blast. My son did the trip 5 years ago and loved it. Other than that I will be trying to recover and find my house under all the mess of packing her up and not feeling great. We have had some fresh strawberries from the garden and they were yummy.
I will pray for the 5 teachers
We all are, lol. The snap chat videos from the security at SeaTac airport looked insane. I feel sorry for the other people on the plane. As well.
I’ve started this show on Netflix called The Five. It’s British and one of the leads gets me pregnant through the tv every time I watch. It’s really good and a nice reprieve from reality tv when I need to feel a bit more cultured (if the leads have national accents different from your own it constitutes sophistication).
I will probably also start watching Pose but I was waiting until I could appreciate it without weekday distractions.
Needless to say I intend on being a hermit this weekend with my dog and running up my a/c bill… and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Oh, I also started buying buffalo mozzarella to make pizzas at home so I’m basically a gourmet chef now and I’ll be eating several of them this weekend Lord willing.
Is it my imagination or are there a lot more Dog Lady posters on this site than Cat Lady posters?
We dog people tend to gravitate towards one another.
TBH if it weren’t for my severe allergies and love of leather furniture I’d probably have a cat so my dog could have a slightly low maintenance pet.
What about a dwarf bunny? Both my dogs like our neighbor bunny.
Hmmmm, I like that idea. My dog is a gentle giant but my girlfriends dog is a rambunctious big puppy. I’ll need to wait for him to mature so he doesn’t accidentally do something and then we have no choice but to look at him differently.
Good point. We have two birds too. The dogs like the birds. But I do not trust them to not do something … so the birds are in cages when we are not in the same room.
Many cat ladies died in THE GREAT DUMPSTER FIRE OF 2016.
hope there is nothing wrong with having 1 of each , My dog yesterday never left my side sat at my feet and my kitty could give a crap less as long as the food dish and water dish are full.
May they rest in peace!
LOL about time, yeah!!
Dearest TT: You may know this already, but JUST IN CASE … I wish I had known last month … I think this goes for all states. When you renew your DL, you have the choice of the regular DL or the new Real ID. After Jan. 2019, you will need EITHER a Real ID to fly within the US or you will need your DL or state or military ID AND a passport. Just in case you want to save yourself a trip to the DMV next year. Or just in case you want to choose the IDs with the cutest photo — or like my old pals used to do —use the ID where you look the most fucked up so if you go through customs fucked up (or smuggling) they will look at your document photo and think “Oh, she ALWAYS looks fucked up; let her through…”
Sometimes the recaps here are better than the shows. Or they are the Cliff Notes (as they were meant to be used, as a “tour guide” not a cheater) to the shows. The recaps enhance my enjoyment of the shows. So fortunate for us that you and Lady C. are such divine complements and equally delicious and sardonic writers.
I get one complete day with my significant other – on Sunday! we usually walk on the beach..head to Starbucks…walk on the sea wall – then this week is cultural festivals!! this weekend it is little italy, we go bonkers for this! they shut down the streets about 5 of them – then we taste calamari (sp) baked lasagna and different types of spag! can’t wait!
A carb fest AND the beach?? Eat aaaalllllll the goooey mozzarella.
I’m happy for you, but in a frenemy housewife type of way. The kind where I’ll find something to snark about regarding it in my confessional bc yes, I’m that jealous.
Wouldn’t it be fun to have a “spin-off” site where everyone could post their ITM comments on the other commenter’s comments?
Two back to back trips. I live in Chicago and flying to Pittsburgh in a few hours. It’s really a lovely little city with a lot to do. I’m a Pittsburgh Pirates fan so baseball is on the agenda. Fly home Sunday.
Then off to stay at the Umstead in Cary, NC. Sun and relaxation and pool time!
Lots of being outdoors and active— swimming hiking running.
I can’t believe the effort it takes to renew a car rego in the states!
I am so excited because tomorrow my son and I are getting our first naked neck silkie chickens. They freak my husband out, I can’t wait to see his face when he gets home from golf hehehe.
Hi TT!! Tomorrow my husband and I are going on vacation to Ocean City MD for the week and then we’ll be hitting up some museums in DC this weekend.
Sounds like fun!
I haven’t been to OC since 2006 but we used to meet up with all of my husbands family there for a week around July 4th. We would rent a bunch of apartments at Harrington Apartments and crowd everyone in. We had to walk across the street to get to the beach and boardwalk but we had such a great time there. They eventually tore down the Harrington Apartments to make way for another high rise and it just wasn’t the same anymore so we quit going. Lots of fond memories there though.
I’m curious with what high rise replaced it. I’ve been going to OC since a kid and I can tell you that a lot has definitely changed!! I love going for the nostalgia aspect and because it’s my husbands favorite place but I’m dying to check out Myrtle Beach or anywhere further south.
Doing a local film festival. It’s been pretty good. I’m all about the documentaries.
Things at work have been insane since around the first of May, so I am ready for a weekend with no plans except staying home. I will be parked in front of the tv watching the U.S. Open Golf for the duration.
I had a wonderful surprise this morning. One of my goats had been limping and just wasn’t his usual, obnoxious self for a couple of weeks. The vet came out and said that there was no physical trauma that she could see but that Teddy is getting old and some arthritis could be setting in. So, this morning I wet out to open the chicken coops and check on our new steers and out came Teddy, running and playing with his partner-in-crime, Joe. They followed me to the house to get their favorite breakfast (a granola bar) and trotted back down towards the barn. It made my day to see him happy.
Can you give goats glucosamine? I give both dogs a glucosamine and a low-dose aspirin every day. On the rare occasions my roommate and I miscommunicate and skip the meds you can see the difference. (Cosaqin D is best, Trader Joe has smaller quantity if you want to test.)
The most exciting thing I have going on is I am eating Pop Rocks remember those I found them at dollar tree 3 pks for a buck I am in childhood heaven again.
It was hotter than Hell yesterday and I had to stay indoors Heat alerts are out due to the humidity that goes along with the heat 98 degrees but felt like 110 .
My little redhead is a fish and spent all day in the pool and unless I get a new floaty I hate just swimming around I like to float kids popped them all last year.and just encase yes I sun screen the whole child she burns if I don’t.
I am debating on a road trip to visit some relatives not a long 1 but a short 3 hour drive. just to get the heck out of the boring small town we live in.
Get a few noodles, they don’t pop…
Fun Pop Rocks! Exploding excitement! What flavor?
My best gal pal (of 42 years) and I are going to see Doug Benson record a live podcast for “Doug Loves Movies” at 4:20 pm today. The start time cracks me up.
I’m also kitty sitting my grandcats at my daughter’s house while she and her fiance are in Atlanta for a wedding. They make sure the fridge is stocked with Busch beer and leave me pizza money. It feels like I ‘m at a hotel.
TT, I wish some of your energy would migrate North so this damn Yankee could catch some of it. Way to go girl!
Weed, weed, weed. The nasty yard kind, not the smoking kind. That’s what I’m doing today, in between floating in my little above ground pool. We had a very big storm the other night and my yard is littered with broken branches. I’m going to cut those up and burn them. Then float. Maybe cut my grass. I harvested 5 tomatoes yesterday and they are going in BLT’s tonight. I have 5 cats. I’m a good cat lady though, they are all rescues. Heat wave here in MO. Real.feel 105°.
Y’all make me feel like a slug. It’s so hot that I’m getting ready to toss an air mattress in the pool and I don’t plan to get off until it gets dark. Same routine tomorrow.
Packing for my first overseas trip! Leaving this week for Scotland, Wales and England. So excited, but not looking forward to the 11 hour flight out of SFO.
So excited for you! If you drink, have a few stiff ones just before boarding even it it is in the morning, order another as soon as service opens and then take a nice little nap for a few hours.
It will be so worth it!
I need to know what a hair demi glaze is. I might need one.
I’ve never had one either. It’s an all over color that washes out after maybe a doesn’t washes or so. It stains the hair instead of dying it. I had it done because I haven’t had any highlights in over a year and my hair is growing like a weed since I don’t use hairdryers or curling irons on it anymore. I just needed it to look normalish long enough to get my driver’s license photo.
The thing is, that it stains and doesn’t lift. That means you can only go darker not lighter. But again, it washes out. If you have light hair you can get weird colors not found in nature. Again, it washes out. And the other thing is, it doesn’t take nearly as long as a regular all over dyer. You can put it on dry hair, leave it on for 20-30 minutes and wash it out.
I did a walk in at Ulta because I never know when I am going to be crazy.
Going to visit our community garden plot. Haven’t been in a couple weeks, and it’s infested with purslane! Anyone got any tips for purslane? It’s tiny and just breaks if you try and pull it out. Ugh, that’s what I’ll be doing today!
Apparently purslane is considered a curse by many but not all; in fact, it’s nutrient-rich and tastes similar to spinach or watercress. So, if you can’t beat it, maybe eat it?😉
I’m alternating between cleaning projects, tearing out all of our decking and popping in to work on a couple tasks that have taken over my desk at the office. Sprinkled liberally with breaks to catch up on my Bravo from last week and all the fun posts/comments on your site. I do love a chill weekend.
No sooner posted that and everything changed. Local parade of the small town variety and a friend needs a golf cart and driver so boom. New plan, let the fun commence!
YOU GUYS! I have been trying to get here to tell you about my day for hours because I came home after a very delightful and productive day to all kinds of Southern Charm tea that took me hours to combine and post.
So here is what happened, my tire shop is literally in the shadow of the new Braves stadium and there was a 5 pm game tonight. So timing was crucial. I got there and got all checked in around 2:30. They were very busy as always and I deliberately didn’t bring my laptop because I have been reading a fascinating story in the June issue of Vogue about Georgina Marchesa, the wife of Harvey Weinstein. It was a series of interviews over a period of time starting when the news first made headlines through a few months later. There are also interviews with others who know it. It’s a heartbreaking story and I ended up having a lot of compassion for Georgina and how she has handled the crap hand she was dealt. All the “she must have known!” and other baseless attacks on her were address by several people. So please spare me all of that.
The tire guy says he has 17 cars in front of me and it will be about 3 hours or more until I’m done. It was a beautiful sunny day in the mid 90s and I decided to forgo my reading and take a walk around the mostly industrial area and have an adventure. After a mile are so there was a strip mall with a hole in the wall Asian massage parlor, It may or may not have been one of THOSE places. The male waiting his turn as I paid gave me an interesting look.
I got an hour and a half session with an Asian woman who did deep, DEEP, tissue. The right side of my body had about twice as many knots as the left. She worked them to death. Then she chopped them karate style, sometimes she punched me all over. Other times she oiled me up one side and down the other. It was delightful. When I left there was a good hour before I was supposed to be finished. I decided I wanted Pho. I saw the sign going in and during the massage decided I needed to abandon the plan for the wine run because after a massage all sorts of stuff is knocked free and you need to drink TONS of water and I figured Pho would be good too. I’d never had pho. I decided against the place to the right of the spa because they suggested the one on the other side. The one they suggested had lots of TV ands just wasn’t matching my unplugged vibe so I skipped them both to try the Japanese place closer to the tire shop. They didn’t do lunch on Saturday and weren’t quite open for dinner yet so I decided to go check on the car and it was ready with in fifteen minutes of my arrival. In those 15 minutes I drank two of their free bottled waters.
Then I headed for the hacienda. Every time I watch Anthony Bourdain slurp an noodle bowl in an Asian country, I start searching Pho places. As it turns out, one of the best ones in metro Atlanta is very near my house. I found that out a couple years ago and learned some Korean online and prepared to go and never went until today it was interesting. The waiter was the most excellent server I’ve probably had anywhere. I ordered a bowl of Pho and there were three sizes, small, regular and large. I went with regular. I received a GIANT bowl at least a liter of soup and a small plate with tasty raw bean sprouts, so many stems of basil I wonder where they hell they grow it, two big sections of fresh lime, and slices of the biggest fresh jalepeno I’ve ever seen. It was tasty. I took half of it home in a 16 ounce cup. I also brought home two types of Thai egg rolls. One is shrimp and creme cheese I I forgot what the other kind was. I haven’t eaten them yet but I have eaten the rest of the pho.
On the way to get pho, my yard kid was several blocks from my house with his lawnmower. I held ten bucks out to him to cut my front yard while I was at dinner but a terrible storm blew in and he wasn’t able to. This unfortunately means he will do it on Sunday tomorrow because he will forget I don’t want lawn cutting on Sundays. And he will likely come before noon during that thing y’all call morning. Hopefully he will wait until Monday.
I feel really healthy after a nice walk, a long massage, a great new dining experience, and accomplishing the tire purchase. My car was the talk of the shop. It’s a 2007 honda civic with 24K miles on it. Several of them told me I could sell the car for a lot of money and it will last me forever.
So that was a great day.
I am amazed with both what you did and the fact that your car has as many miles in 11 years as I can do in a car in one year! I had to get a hybrid I do so much driving. Very proud of your great work today, and now you have rested muscles and a full tummy! What could be better?
That really was a GREAT day, and I’m sure Anthony would say Bravo! An excellent adventure indeed.
I have had three Honda Accords and the 1992 I still have has 240k miles and runs great. Just change the oil and go. Forever. I envy you for your pho day and your Honda. I am putting off watching the Bourdain Mardi Gras episode until I am in better spirits. The pain appt. I waited 8 weeks for after moving will be postponed. Now it is too late to get into another clinic and my insurance has been transferred to Sac from Bay Area. Great. ANOTHER detox and days of pain. Lovely. I will toast you when I watch Mardi Gras episode.
That massage at that particular location sounds very brave, TT!! Glad it worked out so well! Your car really does have a nice restful life. I can imagine how surprised the mechanics were to see that mileage. Good to know it will last for years. Swapping cars takes so much energy to research, and always seems a risk.
Lovely day here today. Got all our dog’s blankets and towels washed and dried out in the sun and the dog’s thick cream coat aired too via, a couple of walks. (He is a Cairn.) Masses of people at the beach as we have had a few days of rain. Came home and made a new chocolate cake for pm coffee and then three nights of meatballs, which I froze for later. I love playing in the kitchen and so avoided doing any work in the garden again. It looks good if you don’t look too closely. Checked in with daughter and found no grandchild is sick and needing looking after tomorrow while parents work. They were out and about in the sun too. Wonderful day!!
I should not read Friday get out in the world post after two substantial glasses of Cab.
I got so far out in life in the world today I drove 4 hours and am now Mom to an 8 week old dark copper golden retriever. I’m so sick of all the twig and berries flapping around my place I needed to add at least another creature that has ovaries. (until she gets spayed much like me she will put on weight and start wearing yoga pants everywhere).
I have two cats and dogs so I’m very bianimal I suppose. Love my cats because like me they do not give any fucks about anything around them but still demand food and shelter and for some Godforsaken reason neck and chin pets at 2 am. I love them but hate the litter box issue. Love my dogs but they are spoiled and high maintenance like the other testicle holders in the house…….but this new pup she’s female and we will flip the script.
From this day forward it will be Beyoncé and Old school Madonna all summer till the boys succumb.
I’m obsessed with Pose and feel alive with the recaps. There was a documentary a few years back about the true underground Vogue clubs way back. It showed the gritty life of street kids and club kids that were Trans and Gay and just generally shunned from their family and friends. I was hooked and balled throughout. Some died some were murdered some disappeared. I think Lady Chablis was even in it. I’ll try to look it up…in the meantime no negative it’s Sunday am and I’m doing chit I’m getting the hell off this farm and out there…
Keep swimming 😜
Friday night — attended The Eagles concert in Houston with my daughter. It was amazing! No Glen Frye but his son Deacon did his daddy proud. Vince Hill was wonderful. Great time.
Oemgee taking the new girl out to potty and sneak a true hidden Marlboro red. The document on the ball culture is Paris is burning. 1990 love it I was in jr. High in Orlando any Pose watchers Netflix that chit 🤗🤗
Oh Captain, My Captain…
Purple pen may be in isolation.
Purple crayon is in your hand.
Recolor your world.
Many colors exist in spectrum.
Your world is seen beginning with drought.
Through rain.
Ending with rainbows.
Keep your eye on the sparrow.
Speak about the thunderstorms.
Vision appears during the lightening strikes.
Trust yourself, my sister.
Tamara, I love this site. All real people not attacking other people and actually helping.
Tamara, I read the rules. Let me know if I mess up but please note all of my report cards checked: does not follow directions!
Oh we attack each other. Just not in the weekend chatter comments. Welcome. My adult report card would read “does not play well with others” so go forth and don’t take any attacks personally. Some of my best friends here have really fucking stupid opinions and beliefs. 🙂
