We start tonight with the news that the female assassin that was sent out with Villanelle and the male assassin is still alive. I don’t recall that bit of information from the last show. Apparently, backing over her with a van a couple of times was not enough to kill her. I’m really not in the right headspace to recap scripted shows today, but I am super behind on posting and need to catch up. The CRAZY has been full on the past few days, so bear with me and we can try to sort out this episode together.
Nadia the assassin has managed to not only survive but get arrested in Russia. Konstantin for reasons that are unclear thinks the wise thing to do is for Villanelle to go there. Is it to kill her? Or to rescue her? Ah, of course it is to kill her. Villanelle is going to be smuggled into the prison as a prisoner and will be extracted once the job is complete. They make it sound so easy. Villanelle does not like this assignment. She spent a lot of time in this prison before.
Niko Finds Out About Dickswab
Eve and Carolyn are heading to Moscow to try to interview Nadia and get information on The Twelve. When Eve stops by her husband NIko’s bridge club, she finds him smoking and stressed out because Frank, the dickswab’s murder, was front page news. He’s worried about Eve. This whole Russian prison plan of hers will not go over well if he finds out about it. He tells Eve is afraid for the life and he wants her to stop. She argues that she is the only one that can catch her! When he screams at her about her getting off on chasing a psycho, he’s hit too close to home and she starts shoving him and slaps him. He walks away and then stops and says they should just go out for curry and go home and forget this ever happened. She says she can’t. She has a “work thing.” Indeed she does.
What’s The Story With Konstantin and Carolyn?
In Moscow, after a car ride involving lipstick, Vladimir and tit jokes, these two go for very strong cocktails while waiting on their contact. Carolyn discovers that Eve is having personal problems. She says that is why she doesn’t have personal relationships. It’s just too hard on everyone. She reminds her that she trying to do what is best for the whole world, not just Nico.
Then their contact Vladimir arrives. He has someone else joining them as well. It’s Konstantin! And it seems he and Carolyn are old friends! None of this is good. At all and Carolyn seems to have had a thing with Konstantin so she trusts him. Eve seems to know something is off but isn’t saying much. Back at their hotel, Eve tells Carolyn she does not like Konstantin. She asks if they are old friends and she says no. This is all very confusing and nothing good will come of this.
Konstantin And The Russians Both Monitor Eve’s Interview With Nadia
The next day Konstantin takes the Brits to interview Nadia. Meanwhile Villanelle keeps getting in trouble with the guards. One of the guards was dragging her off somewhere right past the Konstantin and the ladies. If anyone realized it was her, it was Konstantin. But I’m not sure he did. Villanelle is off to scrub toilets and make new friends.
Eve and Carolyn sit down to interview Nadia. The Russians are recording everything. When Eve asks about the time she was in prison with Oksana, she asks if she helped her escape. She says it was supposed to be her. “She wanted to meet him to be sure I was safe. Because she loved me. But she…I don’t know what she did to him, but he took her. If you want to know about Oksana you need to find…”
At this point Konstantin walks in to stop the interview. He says that the sound is not working in there and tells her to please carry on. Anyone with eyes can see that she is afraid of him. Carolyn reassures her that he is with them and she can speak. His face tells her otherwise. She says they need to find Anna, the reason she was here in the first place. But before she said they needed to find a man.
Villanelle Still Has To Kill Nadia
Next we see Villanelle encouraging her new friend to beat her up. Her orders are to get to the prison doctor for some reason. I presume there will be something there she can use to kill Nadia.
The interview stopped and Eve, Carolyn, Vladmir and Konstantin are back in the car. Carolyn says that Nadia has information, Eve gives up that the group is called The Twelve. Carolyn wants Nadia to have safe passage back to the UK and let them have her as a witness. Konstantin is quite uncomfortable will all of this. Until Vladimir says no. Then Konstantin grins.
In the meantime, Villanelle has managed to get herself to the prison doctor. The doctor was expecting her. He tells her to get herself put into the hole tomorrow at 9 pm where Konstantin will meet her. He tells her where the target is and gives her a giant knife that she will have to hide “up her arse.”
Carolyn Has Some Slutty, Slutty Ways
Back at the bar, Eve tell Carolyn that she doesn’t like Vlad either. Carolyn feels confident she can change his mind. Apparently, years ago Carolyn and Vlad has some sort of tryst and at that same time she had received some vital intelligence. Everyone thought it came from Vlad, but it came from Konstantin. She let everyone believe it was Vlad and he’s never forgiven her. She slept with both of them. Eve laughs and says she is sorry she doesn’t like her boyfriends.
Carolyn says, “I’m sorry you don’t like your husband.” Carolyn explains that sometimes the ones we love the most, we like the least. Eve calls Kenny who tells her that Anna was the wife of the man who Villanelle murdered and castrated. Um does that really narrow it down? That seems to be her signature thing. She also asked him to look for any correspondence between Constantine and his mother, Carolyn. Is Carolyn one of The Twelve?
Killing Nadia Seems More Difficult Than Usual
Back in the chow line, Nadia accidentally dropped her knife in front of her new psycho friend who picks it up and wants to gut her. Nadia works in the kitchen so she has to get the knife back to finish the job. Villanelle kills a guard and blames it on the psycho girl and then kills another guard while Nadia is trying to flee.
And we cut to Eve meeting Vlad alone on a bridge. Eve begs Vlad to give her Nadia and Villanelle. She says they were both just young women who did not want this life and are looking for a way out. Just let her have them and she can find out who the twelve are. He can take all the credit. She just wants the girls. He refuses. Then she drops her intel from Carolyn. She says she knows he was not the source about the plutonium and that Carolyn let people believe he was. She knows who the source was.
Take Me To The Hole!
Flash to Villanelle, knife in hand going to hunt down Nadia in her cell.
Then to Eve talking to Kenny about the urgent need for any correspondence from Konstantin to Carolyn.
Then we are back in Nadia’s cell. Villanelle is under her bed with the knife. Nadia is begging the guards to let her give them a note. She writes something and puts Eve’s name on the note. Villanelle comes out from under the bed and Nadia says she can get them out of there. She is working with the British. Konstantin is helping get her out.
Nadia Slips A Note Under The Cell Door
Villanelle wants to know who is helping her. Was it an Asian woman with amazing hair? LOL. She asks what she told her. She said she told her to speak to Anna. Nadia hugs her sobbing. She asks if Villanelle is going to kill her now. She says yes. While Villanelle is trying to figure out how she wants to kill Nadia. Nadia slips the note under the door and into the hallway.
When the guards get there, Villanelle screams, “TAKE ME TO THE HOLE!” where she will wait for Konstantin.
Kenny Rats Out His Mom
Kenny calls Eve to say he found letters from Konstantin.
Back in the hole, the prison doctor has brought some pills for Villanelle. Villanelle says to let her out, Konstantin is coming. She says, “Konstantin, who?” It seems that Konstantin is done with Villanelle now too.
Only two episodes left!
I love this show! Was looking for your review.
Sorry you’ve been having a rough go of it lately.
Totally suspected they’d leave Villanelle in prison. She’s unmanageable- killing her partners and the perfume woman, stalking Eve, leaving her hairpin behind. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Love this show.
Eve and her husband seem so incompatible. I never see a scrap of affection between the two of them, so it’s hard to figure what drew them together in the first place. There must be a reason for him to be in the show, and I keep waiting for that plotline to unravel. For a while, I thought Villanelle would kill him to hurt Eve, which would then make Eve even more determined to get her, but so far that didn’t happen. I’m still kind of waiting for him to bite the dust.
Carolyn is a deep, dark, slippery drink of water and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she were a double agent. With the plot twists we’re seeing so far, and given Carolyn’s past relationships with Vladimir and Konstantin, I think anything is possible.
So, they smuggled Villanelle/Oksana into the prison so she can kill Nadia? Unless I got that completely wrong, it seems fishy – you’d think they would have any number of agents who could do that, so it’s obvious there are ulterior motives for putting her there – killing her or removing a loose cannon from the mix, which the end of this episode seemed to bear out. I’m still awed by the great acting of Jodie Comer – I absolutely buy her as a Russian assassin – and all her micro-expressions are brilliant.
My favorite line of the whole show? Konstantin saying to Carolyn, “these drinks is vicious”. Priceless.
She was really good in the White Princess as well. Great actress.
So good! Can’t stand having to wait until Sunday. I figured they wanted Eve stuck in that prison…she threaten his daughter. He would want her gone. I wonder will Eve get Villanelle out with the info she gives to Vald?
I was wondering too if Carolyn is part of the 12. What will I do when we have to wait a year?
I think Villanelle IS Konstantin’s daughter with Carolyn. She is their psychopathic love child. Konstantin locked her up again to keep her safe since she seems to be getting worse.
That would make Kenny Villanelle’s half brother.
Konstantin puts up with a lot from her, and also tries to measure her mental health. Also there was a throw away line from Villanelle when she was walking to the prison van with Konstantin where she asks why he has never tried to get with her.
EDITED:
Sorry, I have been a bit unwell and my brain only has about a quarter of cells functioning.
Kenny’s father supposedly died suddenly and that was traumatic to him when Frank died. So if that is true, Konstantin can’t be Kenny’s father. But when Radchick watches this episode for the millionth time I need her to pay attention to the TIME that Carolyn referred to when she said she was hooking up with Konstantin and Vlad. I think it is the right time for Villanelle to be the daughter.
I actually made name mistakes on the edit too! SO EDITED AGAIN. I’m starting to worry about earlier Alzheimers. For real.
LOL I just wrote that maybe Kenny is Konstantin’s son.
TT, do you mean maybe Villanelle is Carolyn and Konstantin’s daughter? When you said Eve I thought, hmmm, then how can she also be Asian ? My brow is furrowed and my mind is twisted around this funny show. I love it.
Hum….interesting….VERY interesting! I will also have to re-watch everything a million times because what does one do when the season is over?
Thanks for the recap TT!!
Maybe Konstantin is Kenny’s father
I’m looking forward to the next episode. The preview where Konstatin puts his hands over his mouth…he’s in shock. Odd reaction by someone sooo ruthless. Is his daughter hanging? Is Villanelle the murderer….pay back for leaving her in prison?
I’m binge watching Nurse Jackie again and thought Dr. Roman was Villanelle before she had plastic surgery on her mouth. But I imbd’d and they are two different actresses. They could be sisters! They have the same wide-set eyes, cheek bones, etc etc. It’s uncanny.
Just watched tonight’s KE! Cant wait for your recap!
