I’m sure you’ve heard by now that tonight is a DOUBLE BOOT episode which means this episode is liable to be chock full of drama so let’s not waste any time with the recap! As always, if you didn’t catch the last doozy of an episode, be sure to check that out here!
Too Long Didn’t Watch
We get back from a super dramatic tribal council, and Domenick is relieved to have Laurel on his side. Laurel feels good about the fact that she saved Wendell, Domenick and Kellyn from the last round. She’s expecting loyalty from them, but Kellyn is STILL preaching how she’s Naviti strong and isn’t sure she wants to work with Laurel. Kellyn is aggressively wrong this season about everything it seems.
Wendell admits to Dom that if they go against each other, they will both lose, while Dom says he is willing to cut him loose to win the game. This could be foreshadowing to Dom backstabbing him. Dom ends up searching for an idol, and naturally, he finds David’s authentic fake idol from Survivor Gen X vs Millennials that was used to blindside Jay. Dom has the opportunity to turn this fake idol into a more powerful one if he is able to fool someone into believing that it is real. We aren’t shown explicitly the rules of what it means “to fool someone”, but Dom decides he wants to target a specific player with this twist. We also aren’t shown this part of the story…
Moving onto the immunity challenge, Survivors will have to pull up on a lever to keep a ball in place. Typical endurance challenge. The twist is that two people will win immunity, because two separate groups will be going to Tribal Council! The ultimate winner of the challenge will go to tribal council last so that they know who leaves in the first one. This is going to be a HOT MESS of an episode!! I’m shaking. The temporary tribes are as follows:
Orange: Kellyn, Michael, Laurel, Domenick and Wendell
Purple: Chelsea, Donathan, Sebastian, Angela and Jenna
Most of orange drops first, leaving Wendell and Dom to compete against each other. Donathan follows closely. Sebastian drops next but is quickly followed by Jenna. Angela and Chelsea are left on purple. Chelsea could win a second immunity challenge. I’m kind of rooting for her! Chelsea’s ball starts to move and she struggles a lot, her entire body shaking. Angela drops out of nowhere, and Chelsea wins her second immunity! Wendell and Dom talk a lot of shit to each other for over 30 minutes. Dom is taunting Wendell hardcore until his ball starts to move. Wendell finally drops out leaving Domenick with immunity! Michael is upset to be up against 3 original Naviti. This is the episode where he probably has little hope unfortunately.
Thank goodness there is no Ghost Island, because we get right into the scheming and jockeying for position! Everyone admits that they are blindsided by the random twist. Michael realizes that he thinks he’s getting votes so he asks Donathan to borrow his idol. Donathan smartly says no way is he giving his idol away just to cause chaos in the other group. Michael goes on to lie to Kellyn that he has an idol. Of course, she immediately EATS IT UP and starts to panic! Domenick isn’t convinced and questions Kellyn’s sanity. The viewer is also questioning this exact same thing.
Kellyn then talks to Chelsea and decides that she’s voting for Laurel just in case of Michael’s imaginary idol bouncing onto her. Wendell gives Laurel the up and up who decides she wants to vote Kellyn. She’s expecting Wendell and Dom to protect her from Kellyn who is now planning to use her extra vote advantage against Laurel. I am terrified of Laurel leaving at this point. If only Donathan ratted Michael out, then this would confirm with Kellyn that he doesn’t have an idol.
Sebastian, Chelsea and Angela are Naviti strong and plan on sticking together in their tribal council vote. Sea Bass surprisingly admits that they are all voting against Jenna but planning to tell her it’s Donathan. Jenna goes to Donathan and lies that Naviti just admitted they’re voting against her. Donathan falls completely for this plot and says he might consider playing his idol on Jenna. Donathan and Laurel share tears over how stressful this round is, and Donathan admits he wants to save an ally if he feels safe, because that’s the moral thing to do. Aww I feel SO bad that Jenna is manipulating Donathan. Jenna relishes in this master plan of hers and how she’ll see him on the jury soon! If only she knew the others were completely lying to her. This master plan of hers is backfiring but in a good way for now.
It’s time for the first tribal council. Will Donathan give his idol to Jenna? Either way, Jenna will be totally blindsided by getting all of the votes tonight, and I’m excited to see her reaction. Sebastian feels bad that the vote is so obvious. Jenna starts lying about how obvious it is that it’s her. All of Naviti is perplexed by Jenna’s words. Jenna is trying to rush everyone to vote. Jeff is also shocked that there is so little to discuss at tribal council. We see Jenna write Donathan’s name down. Donathan gets his idol out while Jenna is smiling the entire time. He decides to play it on himself, but not before apologizing to Jenna. Donathan snaps his finger when he receives a vote. Sebastian receives a vote, and then Jenna receives the rest looking completely and utterly a fool! It is really awkward to watch Jenna immediately join the jury on the side lines. Desiree looks super hot by the way.
Now onto the main event of the night. Laurel is dismayed by seeing Jenna voted off. Random luck determined Naviti being strong this vote on both tribes. Kellyn admits how scared she is about this vote. Kellyn makes a hilarious comment about Michael’s good looks and how it’s so unsurprising that he’s been a golden player this season. Dom says he doesn’t believe Michael has an idol and that they should stick to the plan. Laurel says she saw what happened to Libby when they tried to take out Michael. Now she’s very worried about her being the vote tonight. Wendell and Dom start whispering which makes Kellyn even more nervous, because she’s not included in the conversation. Laurel reminds us that this is how it feels to be a Malolo on a daily basis back at camp: the core Naviti having powwows and everyone’s fate being in their hands.
It’s time for the vote, and my body is shaking. Kellyn does use her extra vote. I have no idea who is receiving the plurality of votes tonight between Laurel, Kellyn and Michael. In a mess of a vote, we have 2 vote Michael, 2 for Laurel, 1 for Wendell and 1 for Kellyn. The jury all discuss how there were 6 votes with only 5 players in the game. Kellyn, Dom and Wendell re-vote and obviously send Michael home. They all give Michael hugs. America is crying. Desiree laughs that no one hugged her. Ha! I don’t feel too bad for Michael, because he’s going to do well in life. Wait, he’s already doing super well!!
Next Time On Survivor: The majority is crumbling, because Kellyn has lost her mind yet again. We finally get to the family reward challenge. Everyone cries.
Final Words: Michael is happy to have accomplished as much as he has in his brief 18 years. He starts to cry a bit as he says how grateful he is for his time on Survivor.
Cho’s Top Takeaways
I know everyone in America is mourning the loss of our golden boy Michael. Yes, I know everyone is feeling a bit weird that we’ve all had the hots for an 18-year-old for 9 weeks now. I don’t mean to break the mood, but I think Michael made an obviously stupid mistake tonight by not voting for Laurel. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he thought Laurel was voting with him against Wendell, but best case scenario is a split vote with it being tied against Wendell. On the revote, Michael would be voted out regardless. HAD HE THROWN HIS VOTE TO LAUREL, SHE’D BE GONE NOW. I know he didn’t have the complete picture, but he should have known that they might split the vote between he and Laurel. Voting for Laurel was simply his best shot at surviving! What are your thoughts? I feel like Michael just cheated America from another week of obsessing over him. Am I being a bit too hard on Michael?
If you’ve followed my series of recaps this far, you know how I feel about Donathan. In my cast analysis of the post-merge cast, I said Donathan might fall into traps of being manipulated by other players. This episode, we saw both Jenna and Michael attempting to use him for their own personal gains. Donathan’s denial of Michael request should have been foreshadowing that he would end up choosing to play a selfish game instead of a selfless one. Donathan playing the idol on himself was the correct move. How sad would it have been for him if he did play the idol on Jenna, and the revote came between Sebastian and Donathan? Just the thought of that makes me so happy Jenna got what she deserved!
No More Weeds To Pick
We’ve finally reached the point in the game where the Malolo tribe has been whittled down to nothing. With only Laurel and Donathan left, it’s almost guaranteed that Naviti leaves next due to the remaining Malolo being ingratiated with Dom and Wendell. And now that there’s obvious tension between Kellyn and Laurel, I see next few episodes focusing on the Naviti girls causing a lot of drama. What are your thoughts?
There’s so much more I can discuss, but for fear that this will go on for several more pages, I will end it here! Are you happy with Michael and Jenna leaving? What are your thoughts on Kellyn seemingly unraveling? Please do let me know all of your thoughts below!
