By the end of the very first episode, everyone on this show was in a very bad spot. The TOV botched a ring sale that was then interrupted by the police. But they managed to get away and ended up on the back of a truck full of chickens headed to Mexico. The ring however is still in Scottsdale. Maddie had problems of her own when Lenny Cohen’s ex-husband, Shelly showed up unexpectedly at her new place in Michigan. It looks like her latest identity might be over before the second episode. Max was also on the run after trying to scam a bartender and getting the crap beat out of him by the bouncer.
Apparently, Shelly still works for The Doctor and The Doctor wants to see Maddie. That is terrible news. Maddie tries to run but Shelly starts choking her out in the kitchen. Maddie manages to get a knife that for some reason is hidden in a book and stabs Shelly in the gut. She flees on foot, he follows in a bright yellow car (wouldn’t the bad guy drive something a bit less conspicuous?) and yanks the knife out of his gut while driving. This apparently caused him to bleed out quite quickly and die as the car rolled in behind a row of cars parked on the street. Four minutes in and someone is already dead. Oh wait! He’s not dead! He manages to get out of the car and start walking toward her holding his gaping bloody wound.
Maddie runs over to the wind chime guy and insists that he take her to the harbour where he has some sort of place where they so mediation and stuff. She says she is “falling apart.” Shelly sees Maddie leave with wind chime boy and then collapses on the ground. Is he dead now? It appeared that a bird was talking to him but I replayed it three times and could not make out a word. About that time a GIANT bird of prey swept down into my front yard, apparently pissed that a kid was cutting my yard for the first time all year. My life has been a constant state of drama lately. Which is amazing since I rarely leave the couch.
It’s time to check in with the TOV in Mexico. I didn’t even recognize Jules as the woman teaching art to kids in the park. A woman comes and she gives her a fat stack of money, apparently to purchase new identities for the TOV. Who knew teaching kids to fingerpaint could be so lucrative?
Meanwhile, Richard, who is now going by Robby is drunk in a bar with some blonde tourist buying his drinks. And she’s about to lose her wallet. Ezra is in cahoots with an antique peddler doing some good old-fashioned pick pocketing.
Eventually the trio meets up at the hacienda to have a house meeting and count their daily take. Richard brings in less than $100 and gets heat from the other two. He is still following the code and only stealing from assholes. He is sleeping with women and asking for money but he won’t take money from their purse. It’s called honor. lol. They need $5,000 by Friday in order to get the new passports so they can get back to Scottsdale and get the ring. I don’t want to go back to Scottsdale. I want to stay in Mexico!
Erza’s take for the day was thousands of dollars. He was selling fake cruises at half price if you wait a week to take the boat ride. The he started selling the actual boats. There were mariachi bands involved, naturally. Jules is pissed about everything and is having to keep both boys in line. So they have to make a new code.
Maddie has arrived at the harbour. It’s some sort of residential program to calm all stress and tension and encourage a mind-body connection. There are spa treatments. I want to live there. Maddie calls the hospital looking for Shelly. She is put on hold and a police officer picks up the line. She hangs up.
Ezra tries to follow Jules orders and lie low and stay out of trouble and perhaps do some writing as they wait for their passports. While he’s sitting in a beautiful square writing, he encounters a lovely young woman who picks his pocket and takes his wallet. But he was busy stealing her phone. Ezra is in love. I suppose they do have a lot in common. They end up heading to a movie theater where she is recording the movie on her phone. Ezra convinces her that they should be partners in crime.
We see Max for the first time looking a lot better than the last time we saw him. And yet, he’s pulling into an urgent care. He is there to see The Doctor. THE DOCTOR. He wants to know everything that happened. He tells him about Patrick being FBI and Maddie double-crossing him for the ring and the money. Wait who did get the money? Was it Maddie? Max tells The Doctor that he can’t keep living on the run. He wants to either be allowed to continue working for him, or for him just to kill him. He gives Max an address to a hotel and a room number. He tells him to go there and wait. He will have his answer tonight.
Back in Mexico, Ezra and the beautiful girl meet for breakfast. They are running a scam on the café owner involving a violin. They scam the guy out of a lot of money and celebrate by making out. Win. Win. Then she tells him her name is Rosa. They go straight to a hotel. Where are Richard and Jules and why aren’t they keeping an eye on Ezra. Just when I was about to make my punny comment about how the girl is going to play Ezra like a cheap violin, Ezra wakes up and Rosa is gone and so is all his money. He looks for her in all the places they have been and finds her in the movie theater recording a movie. She has doubled their money. They return to the hotel room for round two.
It turns out the wind chime guy is gay. Maddie is shocked. Maddie has her first therapy session. The therapist is odd.
The TOV finally reunite and they prepare their disguises for their new passport photos. Richard goes to the bar to pay his tab, which was nice of him. And then two tourist come in and he gets sucked into one more trick.
Max awaits his fate in the crappy hotel rum. He wakes up with a gun to his head. It’s SALLY!
In the previews for next week we see Shelly is in fact NOT dead. And Ezra’s parents are in danger. Rosa offers to help him out.
