Y’all, I am having a bit of performance anxiety when it comes to recapping this show! I meant to try to watch some of the last season to try to remember everything because a CAT scan of my brain probably resembles before a block of rotting Swiss cheese. So apologies in advance. And I hope you will fill in the parts I don’t understand in comments. I also hope the commenter is back that keeps up with all the song titles because that was fun last season.
Okay, I am late getting here and this is going to take forever. Thursday nights are now officially hard. I just need Patrick to be back. Please God let Patrick be back.
So why are the victims being called impostors now? That is the big question. And how am I just now learning that the title of the show is misspelled. What does that mean? I paused to consult Grammarist because you never know what matters on this show and I probably did it last season too but who can remember that far back?
The noun referring to one who takes an assumed identity in order to deceive is variously spelled imposter and impostor. Impostor has the edge, and it is the form recommended by most English reference sources, but imposter is not wrong. Not only is it nearly as common as impostor, but it is also nearly as old. Impostor came to English from the French imposteur in the late 16th century, and imposter first appeared almost immediately thereafter And though the -or spelling has always been more common, imposter has always been present to some degree.
Carrying on. So we pick up at the bus stop where Maddie did not get on the bus but Ezra made off with the FBI’s million dollar engagement ring.
Maddie is picking a new identity from a rent a shed to a song about leaving and just wanting out of here and there is nothing here for me probably called Desperado.
Meanwhile the trio of victims (TOV) are on the run trying to sell the million dollar ring they stole from the Feds. They rip off a few people and head to Scottsdale to sell the ring because Richard knows somebody. They agree to take $500K for the ring that is worth three times that and Jules is skeptical of them even coming up with that. Why, because the deal was made in a roller rink in the basement of chateau sheree in Scottsdale? And off they go to hang out at Richard’s mom’s house.
Maddie is renting a waterfront house as Molly. I think she is in Michigan. It looks like the FBI already know where she is. She goes shopping at an outdoor fair and is gifted with a wind chime.
Is that Max that was drinking and driving? I don’t remember anything. And neither do the TOV who are getting high as fuck. Richard thinks they should have a goodbye threesome. Then Richard’s mother comes home. Or not. It’s the cops that thought someone broke in. A cop he used to fuck. She gets off in seven minutes and she invites herself in. Ezra’s tells Kim the cop that the reason they are there is because they are doing exploratory research regarding a possible mayoral campaign for Richard. Then Kim and Richard head off to make the beast with two backs.
Maddie and the wind chime guy meet outside a bookstore. Maddie claims she works there. They go off for lunch at the park. A couple of guys brazenly take her photo while she is there. Should they be more covert if they are FBI? Or even more direct and just arrest her? Maybe they are connected to someone like Lenny Cohen?
Okay, I just had to run some errands in the middle of this and I am back with no idea what is going on. Maddie was standing at one of those tiny libraries pretending to look at books with her hood up when the two guys that were following her appeared to come out of her house. She looked around and took out some magazines about tropical birds and listened to a recording of various birdcalls. Then she laughed. Anyone care to explain that?
Max stopped drinking and driving long enough to focus on the important stuff. At the bar, his card is declined and he tried to fake the bartender out getting change for a hundred using a ten. This resulting in him being taken out back for an ass whooping. Apparently he is feeling really guilty rolling over on Sally.
We got a flashback of Richard getting screwed by Maddie for some reason. The it seems is that Richard was a real prick when he owned the car company. Apparently, the guy he was the biggest dick to is the friend who is trying to help him sell the ring. There are already several signs that this ring deal is not going to go well. The guy tries to discourage Richard from going through with the ring deal.
Meanwhile, the cop is back to work and sees that Erza is on the FBI’s most wanted list.
The TOV go to the meetup about the ring and Richard has an unloaded gun in his pants. I think the cop tries to call Richard to warn him about Erza but he’s a bit busy. She gets a GPS trace to find out where he is, because that’s the next thing someone would do instead of just calling them back again. The deal goes bad and Richard’s friend goes against his own crew to try to save Richard. Just as things are getting really serious Kim shows up sirens blaring and the bad guys scatter. Kim attempts to arrest Erza but Jules pulls the fake gun on Richard and forces Kim to drop her weapon. They take the money and get in her cop car. She’s been on hold with the FBI for a long time and the agent finally comes on the line.
Patrick is stuck on desk duty being mocked by his coworkers for being duped. Maddie decides to put up her wind chimes. Then one of the many people following her knocks at her door. It’s Lenny Cohen’s ex-husband. The TOV jump on the back of a truck full of chickens to head to Mexico. The ring is back at Patrick’s house in the secret pirate jar where Richard keeps his weed.
I’m confused. Especially about the bird calls. And also what happened to Lenny last season. Did she die or is she around? I’m off to reread old posts.
So sorry this took forever. I had to go run some errands in the world today before the storms start rolling in. I’ll try to do a better job next week. Maybe. 🙂
