Love At First Flight: Next Stop, Rolling With The Punches

March 31, 2018 by tamaratattles 25 Comments

Married at First Flight is a show by the Married at First Sight folks where four couples and matched up to travel the US together for 30 days and hopefully fall in love and get married. I watched the first episode and got sucked in by Jenna, who is just unbearable. I doubt Cale will survive the entire 30 days yoked to this one. I’m going to do a recap just to see how it goes. Y’all know I often get the names mixed up and there are TWO Michaels and TWO Stephanies so cut me some slack!

Stephanie and Ryan

Stephanie, is 28 and a wedding singer from Lindenhurst, New York. Ryan is 26 and he works at General Motors in Royal Oak Michigan. These two had some chemistry at first sight and seem to be a good match.

This week everyone is going to Nashville. Stephanie is already planning the wedding in her head and they’ve been on one date. Maybe when you know, you know? She slides a love letter under his door and runs. He’s really flattered by the letter.

These two have to go to a vintage store and get gussied up for a line dancing challenge. They are having a ball. They had to dance in front a full bar of people. They passed! then they slow danced and made out a lot. They sleep in the same room and clearly hooked up that night. The next morning she is changing his hair and picking out his clothes. Now that she feels she is in a relationship, she immediately starts to try to change him.

Stephanie and Michael

Stephanie, is 30 owns an event company in Plano, Texas. Michael is 30 and from Atlanta. Stephanie is waiting to have sex when she is married. Michael’s ex girlfriend passed away recently and this shook him up. He realizes that he needs to settle down with a nice God-fearing woman. Both of these two are very likable and seem like a great match.

This week’s challenge for these two is to make sausage. Stephanie doesn’t appreciate Michael’s sexual humor when Stephanie is unrolling the casing for the sausage on to the machine. It’s exactly like putting on a condom so … I mean how can he resist? Stephanie is a bit uptight. It appears they completed the challenge and because they stayed at a nice hotel.

The next day they go for a horseback ride. Stephanie is terrified. She did not enjoy the twenty-minute ride. Michael had to lead her horse from his. Later, Stephanie says that she wants to marry someone who will be a stay at home dad. Then when he asks about prenups she says she definitely isn’t signing one. I had such high hopes for these two but Stephanie definitely wants to wear the pants. She gives Michael no room to be the man.

Jenna and Cale

Jenna is 26 and a school teacher. She’s also a vegetarian which was problematic in the eat weird stuff challenge in episode one. She also whines and complains about everything. Cale is 30 and he is an attorney. He seems pretty easy-going, but it would shock me if he murdered Jenna in her sleep one night because she is so rude and annoying.

These two hate each other. Their task this week is work at a dairy farm. They literally have to shove shit. Jenna is not happy. So once again, Cale is stuck completing the task by himself. She does do one last shovel. They also have to milk a cow. Jenna was unable to pull her weight so they get the crappy accommodations for the night. The crappy accommodation is a low-end tiny house. Jenna wants to bail. But she can’t. Oddly, they seemed to bond in the tiny house over pizza and beer. The next day they go for drinks and Jenna has morphed into a fun individual. Now if she would just complete a challenge…

Alma and Michael

Alma is 31 and a social services case worker from Chicago, Michael is 30 and an accountant from Bellmore, New York. Alma has been proposed to twice. These too seemed to get along very well on their first date in NYC but when she got back to her hotel room she video journaled that she wanted to quit the show. I did not see that coming. She’s likely to run at any given moment.

The first challenge for these two is to write a country song about their relationship. Alma doesn’t seem into Michael and Michael was embarrassed when he offered the lyric, “I was nervous, started sweating…” It seems like he feels rejected by her already, which is probably true.

They were terribly nervous singing but they completed the challenge! Oh wait, no they did not, They still have to go out on the streets and sing for money. If they earn fifty bucks they get the nice hotel. Fifty bucks in Nashville where there are rising stars signing on the sidewalk? I am not hopeful. Michael is terrified of this challenge. Alma gathers up people to listen to them. They make 17 dollars. Now Alma wants Michael to gather a crowd. He is having a full-blown panic attack. They are not in a high traffic area. Michael couldn’t do it. Alma saw that as weak.

They didn’t show how they managed it but apparently they won anyway. Michael doesn’t understand why she felt alone and abandoned when he shut down and didn’t do his part in the challenge. When they talk about it later he tells her he thinks she is projecting something from another relationship on to him. He doesn’t see how he did in fact “abandon” her. Alma storms out of the room and nearly breaks the door. The next morning, Michael still doesn’t feel like he did anything wrong. Michael’s eyebrows annoy me.

Suffice it to say that Michael and Alma didn’t have a good time in Nashville.

Next Week they are off to Sedona.  So is anyone watching this with me? Who’s in?

I’m watching a preview of the next episode. Stephanie (the black one) is insufferable. It’s day 6 and every little thing Michael does results in her saying “I see why he is still single.” It doesn’t seem to cross her mind to wonder why she is. She really just needs to get laid. I honestly think that is her problem. Celibacy has to make you cranky.

White Stephanie seems to have lost her fear of flying since meeting Ryan. That’s a good thing. Alma seems to be more into Michael after he has proven himself to be emotionally unavailable and unable to process her feelings. Back when he seemed more normal she was ready to bail. That’s interesting.

Totally agree. Black Stephanie seems like a buzzkill, not in the same way as bitchy Jenna though. I dont agree about her needing to get laid. I was,a virgin until I was 30, but I was fun!! 😉 Nobody believed me when I told them.

Why would the experts pair her w/a guy who clearly wants a wife who is a sahm? That’s not really something some women are willing to compromise on. She needs to let him be the man & be the leader. She’s too bissy & also needs to relax & lighten up & laugh a little. His jokes were funny & honestly, if I had been on that date, I prob would’ve been the one making those same jokes.

Yay! Glad to hear there is a little bit of interest. My recaps won’t be on time, but will probably happen on the following weekend unless I get out into the real world. 🙂

I love any show about travel and when you add in four couples who just met and are thrust together? I’m all in. This show does not seem NEARLY as production driven as MAFS, season one is always the best season for these sorts of reality shows. For some people airports are very stressful (not me I literally love airports. If I lived closer to one, I just go for the hell of it, I love all the people coming and going places. And the smell of jet fuel. It reminds me of my childhood. Once we moved overseas, I had a pretty great childhood.

I started watching because you mentioned it last week, I think. I hadn’t heard about it because I hadn’t seen any ads about it during MAFS which seems strange but it’s likely I missed ‘em somehow. Anyway, I’m hooked. I still can’t get over the fact that last week, Jenna, a 26-year-old kindergarten teacher, had no clue how to use a map. And, she refused to try. I hate when people bash millenials because I have faith in them, but Jenna isn’t a shining example. Oh well, maybe when maps were invented, people who could navigate using the sun, stars, and landmarks worried about the youngsters losing that ability what with all the newfangled technology. When the zombie apocalypse comes, though, I’m afraid that we old-timers might have to come to the kids’ rescue.

When I took Banjo to Charleston to visit a friend, the friend and several other people were losing their minds that I was going on a car trip without a cellphone or a car with GPS. They were like, “Let me buy you a phone! ” You can’t travel without one! And these were people who had been around before such things were common place. It’s like they have forgotten how we all survived with a phone and GPS on cars.

There a millions of people alive today who never had to get up to change the channel on the TV or change the volume or god forbid try to pick up a UHF channel. lol.

LOL! So true. I watched a FB video the other day in which a middle-schoolish boy tried to use a rotary phone at his grandma’s house while his mom watched & giggled. He tried over and over. Every time, he left the phone in the cradle, dialed, and then picked up the phone. He couldn’t figure out why he kept getting nothing but a dial tone.

Happy Easter to you & Banjo! I’ve got no kids, but my dog, Bandit, is six years old today, so I’m spoiling her. Maybe I’ll make her a hard-boiled egg.

TT, I’ve been watching this show from the beginning and in the first 10 minutes of seeing/listening to both Jenna and black Stephanie I was urging the men to “Run!” (said like Sam Neill’s character in Jurassic Park). I’m gonna watch this to the end because I’m a sucker for punishment I want to see if these couples stay together in the end.

The sad part is that in all four relationships it’s the women who are the problem, with the possible exception of Alma who just needs to calm down. Cale has the patience of Job and is very quick to forgive.

    Happy Easter everyone!! 😊
I’m almost done with episode one and I hope they calm down.
I think the cameras are what they are caring about, which I suppose they have to, lol.
Anymore I’m just jaded about people wanting to be on reality tv.
I’m becoming an old cranky Italian lady with an opinion about everything. Ut oh. 😱

I’m convinced Jenna has to be an actress so that her unattractive qualities lure people in! Otherwise that girl needs Jesus. And a couple of GED courses.

Hi TT I have been reading your recaps for awhile and I just realized that you appreciate a response for the time you take to recap this ridiculous folk that we love to love and/or hate. So thank you for your time and energy. I’ve had a similar childhood of traveling way outside the box. My family took an inaugural flight from NY to Spain in 1966. I was ten and my sister was 12 and the whole neighborhood came to the airport to Bon Voyage us including chicken in a paper bag which my mom made us toss. Too much like riding the ghetto Amtrak or Greyhound of the day. Jim Crow was the rule of the land!! As for your amazing recaps, I love love love!!! Thank you for what you do.
