This Is Us Season Finale: The Wedding

I was hoping to have RHOBH recap all done and be settled on the couch with a glass of Merlot to watch this but the Tuesday night TV schedule screws me over ever time. I will hopefully get RHOBH in time for the west coasters tonight. Maybe. But first, I have to see how I hold up during this season finale. I’m going to watch way more than I type. I just thought we might want to talk about the season somewhere when this is over.

Ever since Deja’s mom terminated her rights in court, Deja has become very hostile to Randall and Beth. I didn’t see that coming but it makes since. For some reason I expected things to go a lot smoother. But that’s not how real life works.

Ron Batzdorff/NBC

The first major malfunction of the wedding is that Toby forgot to pack Jack’s Daytona 500 t-shirt that Kate wanted to wear under her gown as her something old he’s still trying to get it. Meanwhile on her wedding day, Kate decides to go to the ice cream shop near the family cabin where Jack would take her for ice cream. Unfortunately, ye olde ice cream shoppe is now Artisinal Scoops. Don’t you hate when that happens? Rebecca is trying not to let it show that she feels like an outsider at the wedding being pushed out by the memory of Jack. I have a feeling there is a big moment to come when she gets to provide the something old and remind Kate she has two parents.

Randall keeps making everyone play the worst case scenario game. It’s very depressing, Randall.

And here it comes. The mother daughter reconciliation before she walks down the aisle. I’ve made it this far without crying. I’m not going to start now.

Wow. Things look terrible for the future. What happens to Deja? 🙁

What did y’all think of this season?

    I wasn’t ready to see the future, I guess…..

    Deja..

I t seems that after leaving that night, there was a court proceedings where her mom relinquished custody and for Deja it must feel like her mom gave up on her.I

On the other hand, she was finally in a safe place, but unable to hold out for that Happily Ever After with Mom.

But It was safe enough that it allowed her to lash out at all the hurts in her life..

This show is fantastic overall. I would appreciate Toby flashbacks, and less of the overly saccharine-laced Jack moments. He’s a great guy, but they are painting a picture perfect image of him that is becoming less believable.

I think I am most curious about who Randall and Tess are going to see in the future? Is it Beth, Deja, or someone we haven’t even met yet? This is the best show to be shown on TV in a long long time.

It could be Rebecca, who at this point may be dying. I got the feeling that the future glimpses are of what could happen based on this episode, though, not necessarily what WILL happen. May be wishful thinking.

    “I wasn’t ready to see the future, I guess…..”

This so much. I don’t need it to be all sunshine and roses and happily ever after but WHY can’t we just have a nice wedding without all the foreshadowing of the low points in the marriage. WHY?

I like that the show is realistic and shows the ups and downs of life. But it’s like they can’t give us a moment to breathe. Hmm I guess that is a little bit like life.

I don’t want a moment to breathe, I use that moment for being pissed I have to wait until fall to get back into this story!

I like this show but definitely less as time goes on. The pilot will always be one of the best pilots I have ever seen–probably the best or at least tied with Lost and maybe Desperate Housewives. As time goes on, my dislike of Kate is really ruining this show for me. She is just mean. If she were my daughter, I would not be as nice to her as her Mom is.

Kevin gave the most depressing toast ever and he overshared. But what he did when he had them all take that moment to breathe was so needed. Randall is always good for tear-jerker speeches.

I think Deja is conflicted. We also know nothing about her father and that was trigger for her especially with her bond with Randall. I think that as long as her mother never gave up her rights, it was always a chance that she would do the right thing. I think this was her most unselfish act yet.

      Agreed.

However I totally get Deja’s feelings. She stuck by her mother through everything and did everything she could to keep the two of them afloat. Even though she wanted the good life with BIG HOUSE, FANCY CARS as Randall kept trying to instill on her, she would never quit on her mother. She doesn’t understand that her mother’s heart was broken by giving up her parental rights, she simply sees it as her abandoning her.

Her beating the fuck out of Randall’s most prized possession, his FANCY CAR makes total sense to Deja, and to an extent to me as well.

Just watched this. Ahhhh. So good. The scene between Kate and Rebecca was so similar to one with my daughter that I finished my specially- designated This is Us box of tissues.
That’s the beauty of this gem of a show: it IS us. We can all relate to loss, difficult relationships, addiction, raising kids, etc. it does it with grace and elegance and humor.
Sorry to see the season end.

The future scenes were what really got me. Is Beth going to die? I love Toby and Kate, my favorites. What is going to happen with Toby – more heart issues, depression?? I totally understood Deja attacking Randall’s prized possession. I just love this show!
    BTW: Rise was so good!

I agree with others who ask:
“Can’t they give us a break?
Sheesh.. it’s been so f+cking depressing.
When I have other things on my DVR I’ve been choosing those first putting off watching
    This is Us.
Such a great show but it’s been so G-D Depressing.

I didn’t love this last episode.
    More depressing sh+t.

Kevin finally seems in a good place. Kate’s wedding finally but her meanie mc meanie attitude is really rubbing me wrong. Not a PC thing but Kate’s weight is concerning…she is much bigger now. So many questions about Deja – does she know Beth and Randall want to adopt her? Why are Beth and Randall not stepping up as parents and tip toeing around her at this emotional time? What do we know of her bio Dad and why did Tobys moms comment about looking like Randall set her off? I think she attacked his car to see if Randall will abandon her after she takes away something special to him (I think she thinks Randall convinced her Mom to abandon her) but t e release of anger may help in the long run but will Randall and Beth see her cry for hello or bail? I hate the way they wrote it when the week before was all good feels for their reunion/future.
