When we first started talking about Wendy Williams’ unexpected three week hiatus from her show, my first thought was, “That’s a week short of rehab.” Then last week Wendy announced that Jerry O’Connell would be filling in for her this week which would put her at the four week mark. She says she will be returning next week. This is yet another weird part of this convoluted story. Wendy said as recently as the last day she left the studio that there would never be anyone else sitting in her purple chair.
Jerry oddly referred to Mr. Hunter and how nice he is at least six times in his one minute dialogue.
Ah, she is not going to let him sit in the purple chair. He approaches it and says he can’t do it. He says that there is only one queen who can sit on the purple throne. He asks them to take it away and then ther bring him out two milk crates duct taped together and then finally a chair. Jerry keeps saying Wendy has been out for two weeks. I thought it was three. I went back to check the dates and her first absence was on Valentine’s Day which was a Wednesday. She was out the rest of the week. She returned on Monday and gave her big hiatus speech the following Wednesday. So this Wednesday will mark the three week point and if she returns as planned on Monday it will be three and a half weeks.
Jerry starts his hot topics segment with RHOA and Sheree’s phone call from the prison. Jerry points out that Tyrone’s release date is in 2022. Then he moves on to Sonja Morgan’s wrap dress coming undone at Luann’s cabaret. Then it was on to the OJ confession. On to American Idol which I was unable to record. Jerry said it sucked. There is no Simon or even a Randy Jackson. It’s all sunshine and roses. Next, he talked about Nick Gordon’s recent arrest. Jerry says that his mug shot looks like he just got his brows done at a brow bar. Suzanne is there, and she got a haircut. I want to read Suzanne’s memoirs when she writes them. Apparently, tonight is the Love & Hip Hop reunion. I am pleased to say I have never seen this show.
Jerry hit the 21 minute mark of the show perfectly. That was impressive.
After the break Michael Yo comes out to talk about Usher and his wife splitting. They ponder about whether all the herpes allegations had anything to do with it. They talk about Tommy Lee and his son Brandon getting in a fist fight.
The next guest was Retta from ABC’s Good Girls. Jerry is really good at this. She’s written a book and he has read it.
There was a promotion for next week’s Wendy return and it looks like she has filmed it recently. That is interesting. Jerry did an overly dramatic Trendy @Wendy segment.
Dorit will be on Wednesday’s show, so I will recap that. Overall, I thought Jerry was great today.
There are a few women we follow that have dieted themselves beyond the health point for much too long. Kim,Luann, Brandi, Bethanny, Rinna, Wendy. Emaciation and fatigue both shriek out for help, and it’s usually chemical/addictive that rushes into the vacuum. Keeping a teenage figure demands too high a price.
Kim Zolciak? No way. You’ve seen too many photoshop posts.
You are right. I was trying to figure out who Kim was
Kim Richards…
I think Kim is naturally tiny/skinny plus she was on the alcohol and pot diet for many many years. I was on that one too! I was a string bean. Usually you get sober and gain it right back. Kim’s addiction to booze and sun is all over her face. Kyle looks over 10 years younger.
I wonder about Rinna. I’m not sure she’s not naturally thin.
I’m obviously guessing but I’ve always assumed she has a high metabolism (based on her personality) plus she watches what she eats and is an exercise addict.
I think so too. She obviously watches what she eats and works out a lot but, she still seems like a naturally thin person to me.
When Rinna posed for Playboy, she was rather far along in her pregnancy and I would have never known she was pregnant at all if I hadn’t been told.
I like Jerry; he seems to be a very nice man, and he loves RHWS too. He is a perfect man?
Kim and Luann aren’t emaciated.
Overly gaunt, then.
Luann looks to be at a healthy weight to me.
Jerry is great. He does his homework and is a real fan.
Don’t have time, but might record Jerry for later. He seems kind and real. I might like a man’s viewpoint on this show.
Soapbox briefly: I am 57 and never once believed I could pass for younger. This current world-thought that women can de-age themselves is killing them. When will we all say “eff it” to trying to be 25? Physically, our bodies are changing, skin thinning. We need to accept and nurture/feed/love who we are now!
Thanks TT for the pulpit to preach from.
I could exercise for eternity and eat dry salads that taste like paper at the best restaurants, but once my elbows quit the team, the jig was up. Post menopause on display. Then the skin damage starts screaming “I told you stay out of the sun,” from every pore. It is what it is.
I really like him. I wish he would have gotten the Live with Kelly gig.
I agree! He is smart, funny, goofy and a genuine fan. He was a much better foil for Kelly Ripa than Seacrest. How cute is it that he stays with his parents when in NYC!!
I watched today and Jerry seemed very conscious of letting Wendy know that this show is still hers and he wasn’t coming for it.
I liked him, he could take over more often and I would be fine with it.
Maybe he still will…..I don’t think Ryan’s popularity (not popular with the women folk of hollywood) is doing the show any favors. So…..time will tell
Me, too! I thought Jerry was perfect for the Live with Kelly and _____ show. I stopped watching when Ryan got the permanent spot.
I always forget he was the chubby kid Vern from Stand By Me… one of my all-time favorite movies. I just don’t see the resemblance.
Although he’s really goofy, it comes off as affable.
I only think he’s there because of threatened advertising dollars. Wendy’s smart…she got a straight white male to fill in for her. Not a threat in sight.
Agree, that is smart thinking on her part.
I remember she said she would put employees in the audience if she ever needed to.
I’m wondering if perhaps the small looking audience is staff.
I’ll watch Wednesday or just read your recap if Dorit is on. Just out of curiosity for how she talks, lol.
(He’s a little too hyper, but generally I like him. I made it eight minutes.)
The audience to me is overreacting to what he’s saying. That’s why I think it’s the staff audience.
Agree. Thought it was a great show as well.
Jerry did a good job. It’s entertaining to hear a heterosexual white male spill the tea. Although he’s no Gary from Ricky Smiley, Jerry is entertaining non the less and we get a little different viewpoint. If he does this long enough he may be able to get his own little segment or show
I liked it, I thought he could get a little bit over the top campy at times but overall he did a good job.
Oh, I forgot to say how I really liked how he burst out working it to the music, on beat and everything.
“…Ah, she is not going to let him sit in the purple chair. He approaches it and says he can’t do it. He says that there is only one queen who can sit on the purple throne…”
This is one of the reasons I find Wendy so insufferable. You know that if Jerry hadn’t said something like that, there’d be hell to pay when Wendy comes back.
I remember Wendy saying that she’d never help out other performers by allowing them to guest-host, and that when she had her radio show, if she was sick one day it’d be a “best-of” rerun instead.
A wiser, more secure soul would know that “you have to give it away to keep it”. I mean, Johnny Carson, an actual great, certainly wasn’t afraid to have others sit in his chair, but Wendy wants to be told she’s irreplaceable. Nobody is, and I’m afraid Mrs. Hunter is going to find that out sooner rather than later.
I think the side chick sent that message quite awhile ago. (Sorry, I’m in a mood.)
I always thought Jerry should have had the job with Kelly over Ryan Seacrest. They are probably kicking themselves now.
I really enjoyed him today. He is kinda campy but I agreed with everything he said. I thought he came across as real in his opinions.
Jerry brought more energy to the show than Wendy has in months.
That’s cause he is speeding!
He’s always been hyper. And he is very excited to be hosting a live show. You’re an idiot.
I like Jerry very much! He should have gotten the host job next to Kelly. I too stopped watching when Ryan Seacrest started. There is just something a bit off about RS, and I have never been able to find him likable. As for Jerry, he did an excellent job, but DUDE, you joke about Nick Gordon’s eyebrows being freshly done from a brow bar? Have you looked at yourself in the mirror? You are the poster child for men overdoing it at the brow bar.
Jerry seems like a nice, affable guy…
But I disagree with him about American Idol. I don’t mind that the show isn’t mean. Honestly, I’m tired of mean. I’m enjoying the new judges, and I’m fine that’s it all friendly, and rainbows and unicorns over at American Idol-I could use some of that in my week!
Hope Wendy is getting the help she needs.
I finally saw some AI last night. I was prepared to hate it, but I loved it. I have always loved Idol. My eyes leaked for a full two hours but it wasn’t a said cry, it was just the music and the happy kids getting their tickets. It was more like leaky eyes than actual crying.
?
Luv, LUV, lovin’ Jerry Ohhhhh! What was Kelly/ABC thinking choosing Ryan Boring Alledged Harasser Seacrest? I too have not watch Kelly since Ryan came on. Jerry’s extra is a breath of fresh air. Enjoying every minute. Wish Wendy well, but not missing her salty side. Hope she gets better and takes care of herself.
Jerry sucks as Wendy’s guest host. Acts like a freak of nature! Had to change the channel everyday this week. Never saw anyone like that before.
So you go to the show every day and then turn the channel. You do realize you don’t have to watch that channel right? You’ve never seen a funny guy who is a bit extra before? You really need to get out more.
Love Jerry! so glad Wendy got someone to fill for her. I was missing her show. DO we think they decided to get someone to fill in in order for her staff to continue working and for viewers to not forget about the show?
So it looks (as of 4 hours ago) Wendy Williams will be back tomorrow.
Should be interesting seeing Erika Jayne on Tuesday.
