Married At First Sight: In-Laws & Friends

February 21, 2018 by tamaratattles 29 Comments

When I start a new recap post, I go to pull tags from the previous post so I don’t have to retype everything. When I do that I see the comments and I just realized that y’all might not still be watching this with me. Let me know if you are still interested! I just realized I don’t remember anyone’s name. Did I even recap last week?  My brain is fried.

Shawneice & Jephte

It’s been two weeks and Jephte still doesn’t know how to be supportive in relationships. He did get her a rose and wrote her an apology card. I guess that is something. Jephte finally seems ready to be intimate with Shawniece. What caused this dramatic turn?

These two have more people over than the other two combined. Lots of friends and family. The girls want to know if Shawniece is having sex with Jephte. They have! They have had sex. She says it is all good. She even sits on his lap at the party. It’s like an entirely different couple than we have seen before!

Molly & Jon

Jon is ready for physical intimacy and it doesn’t sound like Molly is there yet. Jon is completely moved out from his apartment. This is probably because he has no job.

These two have some friends over for Chinese food. The friends notice the lack of physical intimacy. When they ask Jon if there are any boxes that Molly doesn’t check off for him, he gets embarrassed and doesn’t want to answer. Eventually he says he really likes redheads. He doesn’t want to say that she tenses up when he tries to be intimate.

The new female therapist shows up to talk to these two. Jon airs all his frustrations with the lack of intimacy. They haven’t even really kissed beyond a peck or two. The therapist seems really concerned that Jon is going to check out. Molly talks about feeling responsible for the problems in the relationship. She feels really pressured to be intimate. She seems to have lost all attraction toward him. The expert tells them that they need to be all in and be vulnerable with each other. Basically, Molly needs to break down her walls. Next week these two get into a huge fight.

Jaclyn & Ryan

Pastor Calvin comes to visit these two because Ryan is freaking out about Jaclyn’s former boyfriend dying. They had a big fight the night before. Pastor Calvin talks to Jaclyn alone first. He tells her that she has to emotionally separate from the memory of her late boyfriend. We really didn’t see much talking happening at all.

These two have a brunch with both sets of in-laws and Ryan’s sister. The parents both seem very happy with the relationship.

Jaclyn and Ryan see to be getting along a lot better. They were intimate on their wedding night and seem to be building on their mutual attraction.

The three guys get together to shoot some hoops and talk about being married Jephte. says they are finally sleeping in the same bed. Jon says that Molly won’t let him touch her. Jephte says he can’t get Shawniece to leave him alone.

The three girls go to a restaurant together. Molly says that she is really struggling with intimacy. She has never had this problem in relationships before. She’s feeling pressured. Shawniece says she and Jephte have good chemistry and they “vibe.” I really haven’t seen much of that. Shawniece cries tears of joy.

I’m just watching now, I watched the pre show too.

This wasn’t on last week. I thought it was my DVR. I’m kinda half snoozing, got home late from work, have a soccer banquet tonight and want to feel rested.

Things have changed! I may have to watch again, think I already missed stuff.

I’ve been watching the “show before the show” where they have what’s her name from the first season, one of the “experts” and one half of one of the couples…last episode (2 weeks ago) Jephte was on and I saw/interpreted something different in him than what we saw on the previous shows…I saw respect and what appeared to be care and empathy regarding his wife. No clue when this show is taped…obviously after episode but how far out?

The actual show not so much (2 wks ago) but again today he was on the “pre show” and again I saw him being careful and nothing but respectful and kind re his wife! Shawneice was on after Jephte but I was kinda half napping…so I missed her interactions with the “experts.”

His talking head on the episode after he gave Shawneice her gift he was excited to “have alone time” without the cameras!!! Then they consummated their marriage. He looked comfortable and happy at the dinner with family and friends….Shawneice was all over him, (endorphins will do that) but he seemed to respond back equally as comfortable. I like that they rented a modest nice house that they can live in indefinitely not just the 8 weeks. Both other couples rented what look like executive rentals for short term.

Not sure how Molly can get over the wall she’s built. Tamara, I get what you’re saying about his unemployment. Is that the problem? He’s young, good background, seems fiscally responsible, wisely (Iho) let his previous rental go…I believe the show pays for apartments but why use savings on the old one? He’s married, invested in the process (marriage.) To me that’s a huge sign of commitment. He will be quickly employed again, he doesn’t strike me as a free loafer (I could be wrong! Just throwing thoughts out there!) One more thought. I DEFINITELY don’t like what I saw on the previews for upcoming episodes, Jon throwing out her personal “history” on camera!

Jaclyn and Ryan? I haven’t thrown in the towel on them yet. I think these 2 are really good people. Ryan isn’t annoying me as much, I think he’s happy to be married and not dissatisfied with Jaclyn but not sure how to proceed without feeling insecure re her past bf. It seems to me it’d be pretty human not to worry about comparison or “what ifs.” Us old(er) people know, there’s most usually someone or something in relationships that you wonder/worry if you “measure up.” I could imagine the dating game would be a real struggle after losing someone whom you thought was the “one.”

I hope you keep recapping! This show fascinates me (when I’m not trying to nap!) Love your recaps and the comments!

PS Made it through the banquet happily and well rested, youngest got MVP 2nd year in a row!

Sometimes I think these couples (molly and Jon especially) just need to do some shots of tequila and make out. That way they can get over the awkward first moves. Just sayin.

I’m watching TT. I’m a sap for reality TV romance shows. The Bachelor has long since been exposed and there’s still a whiff of truth left here, so I’ll watch until I don’t. I’m rooting for Shawneice and Jephte, maybe more than I’ve ever rooted for anyone on this show. I don’t know if the holdout on Jephte’s part was scripted or genuine, either way I liked seeing them connect emotionally and physically. Can’t imagine any new marriage would be fulfilling without those two components.

I enjoy your recaps and hope you can keep doing this one? I do wonder why more viewers don’t comment about this program. Maybe everyone’s become too accustomed to over sensationalized drams for the sake of drama? If that’s the case, I imagine some viewers would find this a bit slow. I’d encourage people to give it a try. It can be quite sweet, and dare I say, real. It’s a nice refuge from restaurant dinner drama, house party drama, exotic location boat scene drama, etc.

I started watching the show because of your recaps, TT.

I don’t know what caused Jepthe’s change of heart, but I was/am happy for them. Maybe Jepthe just wasn’t comfortable having cameras in his face.

I thought Molly and Jon had good chemistry at first (?) but not so much now. Heck unemployment isn’t always sexy, lol.

Looks like the other 2 are doing just fine. I wonder though if Jaclyn is trying to fill the void of her deceased boyfriend.

In the beginning, Molly did seem attracted to him but then on the honeymoon when he showed his playful side, she didn’t like that. It made him seem childish and now manly to her. I think that is her problem.

It is very odd that there is no discussion about his lack of employment. That has to be an issue to some extent.

Shawneice and Jepthe are so cute together now. It was hard watching her not know what was going on with him.

I like how the guys get together, and the girls get together.
I think it’s moving a little slow, but having the couple’s get together to share their situations, I like.

You’re the reason I started watching this show. Had never heard of it until I read one of your recaps.

I love the show but it takes me several tries to read some of the recaps because I often get redirected to something that says I’ve won something or there’s a virus on my phone or offering me something from Amazon By the time I get finished reading and fighting those ads, I’m usually ready to move on to something else.

But I think Molly’s issue may be his unemployment. I’m rooting for them all but I don’t think they did a great job matching two of these couples.

Happy to see Jephte and Shawneice happy. I think Molly’s been turned of since Jamaica when he was acting childish in addition to worrying about finances due to his unemployment. They are my least favorite couple.

I am watching but I am behind on this show and a few others because of the Olympics. I have several taped but have not watched then. On top of that it has been storming and the satellite dish has been put out of commission on and off a bunch. If it’s not one thing it’s another. I read your posts everyday but I don’t always comment but I comment too much probably. I love your site and enjoy your posts . I watch about half or a little less of what you write about. I love the purple pen aka the queen pen. I love the blinds too but I suck at them . I hope Banjo gets to feeling better, spring is coming and the birds, squirrels and rabbits will perk him right up.

Please keep recapping this show, TT. I’m a sucker for love stories. I root for all the couples except for a few that were just plain ugly and rude to their spouses. This season matchups is weird but I hope the couples can pull it together.

I don’t think Molly is feeling Jon at all. I think she got turned off by him when she thought he was immature for his age, and, even though he’s shown signs of being less childish, she can’t get over it. That, plus him giving up what seemed like a really good job to be on the show, might make her feel as though he’s a little less than sensible. That’s a big step to take when you don’t even know the other person involved, and might make her think he’s not well grounded. She doesn’t seem to look at him as long-term relationship material, and I don’t believe she’s going to change her mind – she’s not willing to be intimate because she doesn’t see any kind of future with him. Judging by the teasers for the upcoming episode, thing go downhill even faster.

Don’t know what happened to change Jephte’s mind. Maybe Shawniece’s teasing and gentle come-ons finally got through to him? I truly didn’t think he was attracted to her at all, and thought he was just being polite to save her feelings, but maybe there’s hope for them after all. I hope he’s genuine because, if he’s not, her heart will be broken.

Jaclyn and Ryan look like they’re getting back on the right track again – the session with the pastor really helped. They both seem to want a happy ending, so fingers crossed for them.

I enjoy the show and love the recaps, so hope you keep them up. When you think about it, the chances of success when you bring two strangers together and expect them to meld in every way, have to be quite low. It’s an awful lot to expect from anyone, no matter how much they think they want to “find love”.

Apparently Jon lost his job because of the show. I remember something said doing the show would t be good for the company. He didn’t quit, he was let go.

Yes, please keep recapping this! I had to record this show because of the Olympics, and I just now got to watch it. So I’m just now reading your recap and the comments too, because I didn’t want spoilers (though it turns out this ep didn’t have much to spoil).

I agree with the others that Jephte’s change seems dramatic and unexpected–but I’m glad to see it. I had the most hope for Jon and Molly at the beginning of the season, but now things aren’t looking so promising for them. For some reason my DVR didn’t record the scenes from upcoming episodes, so I didn’t get to see the trouble coming.

I don’t think Molly was in to Jon from the start. The way I heard it Jon’s job basically told him ino honeymoon don’t come back, either way two side to every story. We don’t know know how long he was there for or his job etc . Do you think nerves played into his behavior. She wasn’t attacted to him from the get go. She comes off has a perfect girl but if I’m right didn’t she have sex with two guys in college.
So I think he been trying to hard she just doesn’t like him he can do better!
