I’m really slow to recap these shows lately because there is so much on TV right now to get to. And also because they are cutting back on staging houses in favor of meeting at public restaurants, my entire interest in the couches and wall colors is waning. Could I be cured of my Catfish obsession? Maybe. Maybe not. Before this show starts, the episode with the guy who was convinced he was in a relationship with Katy Perry is ending. That was a cool episode because they actually went to the UK. Spoiler alert. He was not really in a relationship with Katy Perry. There is actually a lot being shown about the end of that episode which means I won’t get the end of this episode. Sigh.
Wait! Max is married too? And his Brazilian wife is also showing up on the show? And they speak Portuguese at home? This is a lot of information to throw at me at once. Isn’t it enough that we get Nev’s wife Laura on every episode now? Did the giant wall of Catfish posters and this crazy office space really cost so much that we are going to see it every episode now? I do not like change. I just want to see people acting like fools for $1000 and some new living room furniture.
Zak is 27 from Wilmington, Delaware. He has been talking to Garrett, from Kansas. Garrett is exhibiting all the same Catfish behaviors as everyone else. No video chats, backed out of meetings, disappeared and changed his phone number.
I am starving and got sidetracked googling recipes for a late lunch and missed somehow why Zak is flying to LA and they are putting him up in a house there. Zak is from Delaware and Garrett is in Kansas, so why are they in LA? Did the cute little Air BNB get a new fridge? Is that why they made such a big deal out of it? The walls are gray, but I feel like all the walls in LA are gray. Zak is annoying. Let’s hope this works out for him.
The Incredibly Simple Internet Investigation
The boys find no social media, no results for his phone or pictures. So they call Zak and he tells them that he talked to Garrett the night before and told him he was in LA with Catfish and apparently Zak removed everything. The boys try some cached links and find some images. They find a friend named Alexander and message him to ask about Garrett. Alexander says they do drag together. He says his name is Gary Michael. That profile seems a lot less gay. It’s like he is living separate lives. So they message one of the girls from his straight looking site. Katie says that if Gary was in an online relationship, she would know about it. She has never heard about Zak. She says about four months ago, Gary’s ex hacked into his FB account and was sending them to people. It sounds like she is trying to cover for Gary to me.
What the heck is going on now? Zak is doing Pilates somewhere. I do not like all of these public meetings. They tell him about the drag queen guy and his friend Katie and he is all caught up to date.
Nev calls Gary/Garrett and he wants to meet with Zak and explain everything. Garrett agrees to meet Zak in LA and explain everything in person, he says he just doesn’t want to disappoint him.
The Meet Up In A Public Park Near A Large Body Of Water
But first, even more facetiming with Laura. Why? Then they guys go to pick up Zak. Production calls and says they are at the airport and they can’t find Garrett. Everyone is on standby to see if he even got on the plane. The weird thing is they would have to know his real name is Gary if they booked him a flight. You can’t fly under a fake name. Then suddenly, Garrettt just shows up at the Air BnB out of nowhere, WTF?
Garrett says he made the Gary profile to hide his homosexuality from his family. He also had a relationship with a guy from Georgia that was basically online and at some point he went back to Georgia for another guy and Garrett became skittish about online relationships. If what I typed doesn’t make sense it’s because none of this makes sense. This is the dumbest thing ever. He says he just didn’t want to be vulnerable to another person again. He says the reason that he didn’t let Zak come to see him is because his parents didn’t accept him being gay. But didn’t he just say he was in a relationship with a guy from Georgia? Did he not meet them?
Then despite taping for 70 minutes, I don’t get the end of the story. So I do a Google search and this is what Zak put on his blog about the current nature of their relationship.
Gosh, I’ve had such an overwhelming response of nice messages I’ve barely been able to keep up! If you’re reading this right now it’s more than likely because you saw my episode of Catfish last night and want to know if Garrett and I are still together. So I thought I would write this short post and answer everyone’s burning question.
Sorry to disappoint but Garrett and I were never officially “together”. We still talk and we still tell each other we love each other, but no, we are not together. Distance is a really shitty thing. We both want each other but know because of the distance it would only end in heartbreak. He made plans to move with his best friend this summer and he is a man of his word, which I respect, and so it would be at least a year before he would be ready to move out of Kansas and I don’t want to move somewhere that far and new only to move again in less than a year.
After watching the episode I even made the leap today saying that maybe we should reconsider dating, because the episode brought back all of my feelings and I realized I don’t care about the distance or how long it would take but, unfortunately, it’s just bad timing right now. Don’t be sad though that’s the beauty of life, nothing is permanent, I’m making plans to go see him once he’s settled this summer and I’ll be holding out hope that I will be with the love of my life this time next year. Everyone cross your fingers for me!
So things don’t look so good for this gay romance…
Also I am pissed they are not following my format anymore. I do not like the new one. I want a park with a scary body of water! I want new couches! I see no reason to watch this crap anymore without the regular features…
