Carrie gets the phone call home. Her dad has some dementia stuff going on. She is the front-runner in my estimation so surely she not going home tonight. The challenge tonight happens at the Stanley Hotel which was the inspiration for The Shining.
The quickfire is to make a dessert that represents their worst nightmare. I don’t watch scary movies because like Carrie, I have very vivid dreams most every night. I am worried I am going to have nightmares from this episode. Christopher is good at desserts so hopefully he gets the win on this. Bruce makes up a story about being afraid of pomegranate seeds as a kid. That’s smart. But Bruce is still freaking out. It looks like Padma is the only judge for this. I have ice cream. I am wondering if I go grab it if it will melt before I can eat it. She did not like Bruce’s dish or believe his story. She seemed to love Christopher’s story and his dead man cake. Adrienne’s dish seemed to go over well. Carrie ran out of time. She didn’t get much of anything on her plate. YES! Chris won. Immunity is no longer on the table. He did win a $5K gift certificate to Kraftsy.
The chefs will be serving the Governor of Colorado at the Governor’s mansion for the elimination challenge. I seem to have missed what the instructions were. Oh I remember, it is one of the “journey” challenges. They need to call on all the things they have learned as a chef on Top Chef to this point. So basically, it is make anything you want. Unless you are Bruce, who can’t make anymore pasta.
Tom shows up to tell the final five once again that they sucked last week. He says he is getting better dishes from Last Chance Kitchen and if they don’t get it together, he is going to bring two chefs back.
Adrienne seems to have a strong plan with fish. Bruce is also doing fish. Carrie is starting to get her confidence. She was intimidated by the chefs from the big cities. Now that she has so many wins, she is going to bring in some of her best dishes. Christopher is doing a ravioli. He is doing ravioli for the first time and his meal is a tribute to all his chef friends he has made. Carrie and I both think this is a bad idea. I’m worried about Christopher. Especially since Mustache Joe is making pasta and that’s his thing.
The judges LOVED Joe’s pasta. They really liked Adrienne’s monk fish. They love Carrie’s elk. Bruce is unhappy with his duck and roasted barley. The barley is undercooked. His plate is underseasoned. The word “uninspired” was used. Christopher is also unhappy with his plate. The judges did not like his ravioli. Either Bruce or Christopher is leaving.
Joe won. They are making it seem like Bruce is going, and I hope that is true. I really want Christopher to stay! In the stew room, Joe points out there is still Last Chance Kitchen. Foreshadowing? Oh! I am starting to think he is going to send them both to LCK and then bring back two. Otherwise why even mention that?
During the commercial, they showed us the scoreboard for fan favorite Fatima is #1 and Chris is #2 Carrie is #3 Joseph is #4 Bruce is #5. I need to go vote for Christopher.
Yes! Bruce gets sent home to see his baby. Unless he wins in LCK.
It’s almost embarrassing how seriously I took the outcome of this episode…At the end, when Chris and Bruce were in the bottom, I actually spoke at the tv and said “It better be Bruce that’s going home! Chris needs to stay and win it all!”
And I thought of you, TT, cuz we are both big Chris fans. Crisis averted. Chris is in it to win it!
Thanks for posting your Top Chef recaps so quickly. After I watch the show, I go straight to your site.
(random comment: I miss Fatima)
I knew Bruce was going as soon as he decided not to do pasta. Even if Padma is sick of it, it is what he does best.
Also, just read the shining a couple months ago and it’s a wonderful book. Better than the movie in my opinion, even though the movie is good. Any readers should check it out
I can’t read King’s horror books, but 11.23.63 was a great read.
I loved that book!
I love Bruce but perhaps he should have asked Top Chef if he could leave and do a future show. His head isn’t in the game, he wants to go home and see his new son, and he should, newborns change daily.
This is the first competition show where I genuinely liked all of the last 7 or 8 contestants and hate to see them go.
I think it’s going to be Carrie and Chris at the end.
Bruce looks like the hair, glasses and nose all came together.
I, too, like Chris; however, he needs to dig deep and find his competitve side or he will be gone.
top chef editing again so sloppy as to reveal the winner of LCK before they wish to; both the shadow at the end of the top chef episode, and tom’s head swivel reveal the winner.
we don’t want to know.
I think they do that on purpose to throw you off. You think you know who’s coming back but it turns out to be someone else. Id like to see Christopher and Carrie make it to the end.
I took the challenge in a much different (and I guess wrong way)–if I were Bruce I would have done ‘baby’ everything (lamb chops, eggplants, microgreens…) and if I were Chris I would have done my sobriety story and how he couldn’t taste the beers and how stressful the TC journey has been but he didn’t falter.
I miss Fatima too.
Team Chris all the way!
I was glad that Bravo aired several recent episodes last night, which gave me a chance to catch up. There have been many likeable chefs this season, and I am hoping for a Carrie/Chris finale.
Carrie was particularly obnoxious this episode. She’s got her nose in the air ever since she won with fancy toast, whatever that is.
LCK has been great – and the very last episode I was really surprised by the ending.
Bruce couldn’t go home before the end of the show cuz it’s a contract, and they have to stay till the end of LCK as observers/audience.
Watching Fatima looking so healthy is amazing, knowing she had cancer in her shoulder that whole time. Very inspiring.
