I have another embarrassing confession to make. For some reason, I though this show aired on Wednesday, So yesterday when it wasn’t in my DVR, I freaked out a little bit because it did not tape. I was surprised how disappointed I was initially and how please I was to see it taping last night.
This week, the focus is on social media. If there is anyone who can teach these girls how to manipulate public perception through social media, it’s Yolanda. First we get to take a look at their current Instagram page. It is interesting to see the girls watch the reactions of other people to their page.
Lil Yan’s page is up first. He page is typical teen girl. Lot’s of weird filters and funny faces and peace signs. It does not say model at all. Mackenzies Insta is mostly tight shots of her face. She needs more variety. Plus she has too many photos of herself with her boyfriend. Athena’s IG is really good. Lots of posed photos, variety, and she interacts with her commenters. Breanna’s IG is also really good. Tons of different photos showing her with her horses, at the beach, in the city. Lovely photos. Mikayla’s account is private. This is because she is a child. Yolanda didn’t seem to get that. I believe they will open a new one for Mikayla that is whitewashed for the public.
Yolanda gives Mackenzie and her mom a bit more advice on shaking off critiques and criticisms. Both of these two cry a lot. Yolanda doesn’t put up with tears.
This week’s challenge takes place at the H & M flagship store in NYC. The girls have half an hour and $250 to style two looks, one for night and one for day. I think. At one point Yolanda said a day to night look. Their runway walks will be broadcast on the Jumbotron in Times Square. Is it wrong that I am already hoping that Lin Yan takes a face plant? All she has done is mock the other girls, especially Mackenzie since the episode started. Her mother is just as juvenile and rude as her kid.
Well I didn’t get to see Lil Yan face plant. But she was so bad that it might have been more pleasurable than a face plant. On her day look she posed with her tongue out like Miley Cyrus. On her night look she flashed some hand signal. You can tell Yolanda can’t stand her either. And she and her mother were chanting something that sounded like “pussy candy” before she did her thing. I know this isn’t an elimination competition, but can we send her and her mother home now please? The show would be so much better without them.
Breanna has decided to hang out with Lil Yan. Bad move, Breanna.
Later, Yolanda has a heart to heart with the moms. She tells Mackenzie’s mom that her nerves got the best of her today, and talked a bit about building confidence. Teresa says she thought her daughter did great. This one is not much for taking constructive criticism. Lil Yan’s mom, Kat has a similar dismissal of Yolanda’s words when she explains that it’s also a bad thing to be arrogant and think you are better than everyone else.
Bella is back to chat with the girls. She brings the girls some Dior skincare. This reminds me I am out of La Lotion. Bella takes Mackenzie for some one on one time to share her experiences with anxiety. This pissed off Lil Yan. Just before the challenge winner was announced, Lil Yan cries to her mommy about Mackensie being mean to her! Talk about fake news! This little drama has her late to her meeting with Yolanda.
The H & M social media votes are in for the girls fashion show. Breanna comes in the middle of the pack. Lil Yan and Mackenzie were both on the bottom. Yolanda says that Mackenzie looked very unhappy and uncomfortable due to her heels. She points out that she talked to her last week about heels. Yolanda tells Lil Yan that her poses were inappropriate for the brand. Mikayla and Athena were the top two this week. Athena won the $5,000 this week.
Next week, they have a circus themed photo shoot and a photo shoot on the beach.
