First of all, the actual title of this show is Making A Model With Yolanda Hadid. You know that was a non-negotiable line in her contract. Andy Cohen recently insisted that WWHL become WWHL With Andy Cohen. Although, now that I think about it I believe the original title had been used on a few other shows.
Up first we meet Lilyan and her mother Kat. Lilyan is 15 and doesn’t seem to scream super model to me. While I am thinking about, let’s remember that these girls are children between the ages of 13-16 some of the most impressionable years of their lived. I’ve seen some hateful comments about children on her lately an as of now, that will be stopping. I can’t believe there needs to be a rule about insulting the looks of small children on this site, but apparently there does. However, obnoxious behavior is fair game at any age. I assure you these girls are reading every drop of information about them online. Please bear that in mind. Lilyan thinks very highly of herself and wants us to know the only models in the world better than her are Kendall and Gigi.
Athena is 13 and is drop dead gorgeous. She could go places. Athena’s mom, Diana, has quit her job so she can model too. She has seven kids and the husband is a stay at home dad. So how does one support seven kids with no working parents? Is Athena the breadwinner? Like Yolanda says, Athena needs to have a growth spurt if she is going to make a career of modeling.
Breanna is also 13 and already has the height. Her mother, Jessica is one of those moms with no parenting role. She clearly thinks she is also 13. Breanna has an unusual face, as I am trying to figure out her ethnic background, I hear Yolanda refer to her as an Asian model. So she is Asian mixed with something tall.
Mikayla also looks mixed. She is 16 but looks younger. Her mother Karen refers to her as cute as a button. She’s right. But that look may be more limiting than Breanna who seems to just transcend age somehow. Mikayla is athletic and writes music and studies piano. She has no modeling experience.
Mackenzie is 14. When Yolanda asks her how tall she is, she looks to her mom as if to silently ask, “Should I lie?” She responds with, “5’8.”” Her mom says she is very shy and has social anxiety. Um, this is not the right line of work for her. Her mother Teresa says that modeling has given her more confidence. Teresa says they are best friends (red flag) and that Teresa “can be a little snotty at times.” Way to put her best foot forward, best friend. Mackenzie’s look is sort of “blank canvass” she’s got nice bone structure but nothing about her pops without makeup. She would not stand out in a crowd.
These are the first five moms and daughters, but I know from doing set ups there is one more pair to come.
All the pairs arrive in at the house they will be living in. They have to carry their own luggage. The horror! In a mother daughter interview, Breanna’s mother says she wants to make sure that her daughter has everything she needs even vagina something. Paste? I listened three times and can’t make it out. It’s also Friday night in the ghetto and someone has a case of fireworks, or there is a gang gunfight going on. Either way, Banjo is very distressed. The producer inquires about where to find the vagina thing and Breanna says her mom makes it. I actually tried to find the answer to this question on Google, but could not. I am counting on you guys!
When Yolanda shows up with cupcakes with Bella in her wake, the girls all lose their minds. I hope Lillian tells Bella that she is a better model than she is. Bella would belt her in the mouth.
Yolanda address the group for the first time and the word “journey” would be my drinking word if I were drinking. In fact, why am I not drinking. Hang on a minute. Okay, feed the dog, pour a glass of pinot grigio and popped a couple probiotic tablets for dinner. I’m good to go. Yolanda and Bella give a speech about not being competitive with each other and having confidence in themselves. Yolanda cries.
I just realized Lillian’s name is actually Lilyan. As that realization comes, more obnoxious words come out of her mouth. She tells the producers face to face that one of the girls who was a bit nervous about the plans for the day has been pushed to the side by her as irrelevant. For this reason, I remind you that she is living up to the misspelled name rule. If your mother can’t spell your name correctly, you are doomed from birth. Lilyan is exhibit 42b.
The girls have 15 minutes to pick one outfit that represents them and be ready for a photo shoot in Times Square. They are each given $50 to buy whatever they want for their shoot. The moms are the creative directors, the winner gets $5,000.
Athena and her mom keep the $50 and just take a photo. It was cute but they passed some bright red tables and chairs that I would have used as props. Athena is so cute though that it doesn’t matter where she poses. Yolanda says that the high heels were a bad choice for a thirteen year old.
Lilyan and Kat flag down a yellow cab for Lilyan ( I now says lil’ yan in my head and it sounds like a tiny asian rapper) to squat on. The girl cannot pose to save her life and all her mama does is scream really bad ideas at her. Yolanda seems as unimpressed as I was.
Makenzie refuses to take direction from her mother. True her mother’s ideas are not the best, but for this challenge she is the creative director. I hate that Yolanda basically says everything I do right after I type it. Makenzie decides to pose with the red chairs, but she just sits on one normally and barely changes poses.
Breanna’s mom wants her to skip and be 13, she says she can’t skip in heels. Yolanda says that is exactly why she shouldn’t be wearing heels. Later we see her mom trying to make her jump in high heels.
Mikayla is posing in front of a poster with a lot of lips and mouths. She’s cute. I love her outfit. She’s following her mother’s direction. She’s the best so far by a mile. She’s 16 but chose flats which is a good choice for the streets of NYC. Then they get her hailing a cab. This is a great shoot. Yolanda likes the dynamic between Mikayla and her mom. They got along very well. We see her in several different shooting locations and she is great in all of them. She’s the clear frontrunner. She also has zero experience and is the only one not being homeschooled.
When Yolanda reviews the photos, she says all the moms had their girls in too much makeup and hair for this first shoot about who they really are.
They meet for dinner and Lil’yan is so sure she is going to win despite being the absolute worst in the lot. I hope Yolanda talks about the photos from worst to first. Somebody needs a reality check.
She starts with Breeana. She feels like she chose the wrong image, but liked many things about her shoot. Makensie is next. She choose a really, really bad photo from the posey posey red chair shoot. When Yolanda points that out Makensie chose to tell Yolanda Hadid that the shoot was really stressful because they only had thirty minutes to get it all done. Her mom says she thought they did well. It would not surprise me at all if the moment I hit play on the DVR Yolanda tells them to pack their shit and leave. You do not speak to Yolanda that way. You do not speak at all. You merely thank her for the feedback. Yolanda spares her life, but not before telling her that she heard her shush her mom and she didn’t like that one bit.
Now with the sirens. Maybe some fucknut blew off a finger lighting fireworks.
Next is Athena, I love Athena, but she also chose a terrible picture. She looks bored in NYC. How can that even be a thing? Especially for a 13-year-old on a photo shoot. Yolanda said the heels were a mistake.
Mikayla had a great photo, and she loved how the mother daughter team worked together, but in the photo they chose, Mikayla had dead eyes.
Lil’yan and Kat are up next. If she likes the photo I will throw up. And she does. Lil’yan and Mikayla are the top two. But when Mikayla wins, the look of devastation on Lilyan’s face was everything. Then Yolanda tells Mackenzie she is in the bottom this week. She cries. She says she is crying because she lost for being disrespectful but she and her mom have a special bond. Oh please. Cry me a river. You were an insolent little brat the entire shoot. We had a confessional where Lil’yan said Mikayla didn’t deserve the win and Makensie was being dramatic. Her mother fully endorses her trash talking.
The odd thing was my recording was only 49 minutes and I got the entire episode.
