Ryan and Jaclyn

Jaclyn & Ryan

We start this episode with Jaclyn having cold feet and panic attacks trying to get herself down the aisle. It’s very high drama. But once she takes the leap of faith, they both seem to have an instant attraction. Their families seem very pleased and supportive. They give their vows as genuinely as they can under the circumstances. Ryan goes in hard for the kiss, and Jaclyn was receptive! It went off without a hitch. ‘

Ryan is super excited. Jaclyn seems a little more reserved. At their first dance, Ryan goes in for a lot of kisses. Jaclyn is a bit uncomfortable being in the spotlight. Ryan gives a speech at the ceremony. Did I mention he is beyond happy? He gets down on one knee and proposes to Jaclyn. She says yes.

Back in their hotel room Ryan tells us that he is looking forward to sex whenever she is ready. Which is great because she told us she thinks Ryan will be willing to wait for sex until she is ready.

Shawniece & Jephte

Jephte is terrified, mostly of his mama. He shakes hands with Shawniece’s family. Her grandfather says not to him, but once he moves on he says, “He’s not going to make it.” Shawniece is terrified too. It looks like a race to see who is going to pass our or run first. They both bust out smiles when they see each other for the first time. This is a good sign. As soon as the wedding begins, Jepthe’s mom jumps up and says, “Everybody wait, this is my son…” And we cut to commercial. But instead of going crazy, she gives Shawniece a belt made out of the veil from her wedding. She says she doesn’t have daughters and wants her to have it. Have we really tamed the mother already? That seems a bit too easy. Shawniece’s vows began with, “God has a way of putting us together…” Which is fabulous because Jephte’s mom was displeased that experts were putting them together instead of God.  Jephte was afraid to kiss her. He’s still very nervous. So she goes in for the kiss and he didn’t seem to mind that one bit.

Shawniece and Jephte

At their private toast, Shawniece feels it appropriate to let it be known she has been single for four years and masturbating got her through the process. Jephte is a bit horrified and says he’s a teacher that works with babies and she need to take baby steps with him. Jephte is freaking out. Is he having buyers remorse? Shawniece is not helping by saying things like “We’re married now whether you like it or not!’ All the couples had photos made and the other two couples where happy to take lots of kissing photos. Jephte doesn’t want to do it. He needs a minute to process things and he is not getting that.

During the first dance, Jephte is still uncomfortable. Part of his issue is being affectionate toward someone in front of his mother. The other part is that he seems very shy and doesn’t like to be the center of attention. On the other hand, Shawniece wants all eyes on her, and can’t wait to dance to some “bump and grind.” Shawniece’s mother gives a long speech that starts with her telling Jephte she’s not good with names so she is going to call him Jay. She’s been praying that good would send a man to take care of her daughter. Shawniece embarrasses the hell out of Jephte by giving him a lap dance. This girl cannot read a room.

Jephte carries her across the threshold and she is hoping for sex on their wedding night. Jephte loosened up a bit at the reception after a few drinks. He might not be so shy in the dark with no cameras. Still, he is the most overwhelmed by the whole experience.

Molly and Jonathan

Molly & Jonathan

The second Jonathan see Molly he says, “Oh shit….Damn….alright..” Suffice it to say he likes what he sees. Before the wedding starts he jokingly asks if he gets to kiss her yet. The ceremony goes great. The couple takes a private moment for a champagne toast and a little first date type chatter. So of course she asks what he does for a living. He responds, “Oh, that’s a fun story…” it looks like he is going to have to let his little unemployment secret out of the bag. And he does. He lets her know he is already getting offers to interview. She seems fine with it. So, YAY!

Molly and Jonathan seem equally comfortable together at the reception. When they do their first dance, the in-laws comment that it almost looks like they have known each other their entire lives. During the family speeches, Jonathan realizes that it was not her dad that walked her down the aisle.

These two have a strong physical attraction and snuggled right up on their wedding night.

In the previews for the season, there are a lot of happy scenes. And then there is Shawniece crying because Jephte treats her like a stranger. Jon is irritated by the slow pace of the relationship, which likely means she is hold off on sleeping with him, and Ryan seems to not be so thrilled with Jaclyn now that the newness is wearing off. She seems to be having problems dealing with the death of her previous boyfriend.

Jaclyn did not seem interested and Ryan was way more interested in her than she is him, it was so awkward to watch. I’m pulling for Molly and Jon but the previews made me nervous, Jephte should have never signed up, I know Shawniece is a stranger to you but damn dude loosen up.

I agree. Jaclyn seemed way turned off. Idk. We’ll see. I don’t think she’s over her bf dying. He died in Jan 2016. So that means it was just over a year after his death that she decided to do this. She doesn’t seem completely into this. Ryan is a little extra! Annoying. I like Molly & Jon. They make a good looking couple. I like Jepthe & think his shyness is adorable. I think Shawniece is a tad too much for him. Girl, dial it back a few. Who talks about masturbation after literally knowing someone less than 30 min AND on national tv!?!?!? TMI! And the lap dance!?!?!? #done Have some self-respect. Save that for your wedding night. Alone. With your new husband!!

I agree with your assessment 100%. Shawneice is way too extra way too soon l. Jefte is completely adorable. Jacqueline is obviously not over her boyfriend. The psychologists do not know shit obviously anybody worth thier salt would know it’s way too soon for her to be on the show. Molly and Jon are adorable but he needs to get a job a ASSP. Nothing sexy about you new groom being unemployed.

Yes, these “experts” are 3 for 15. Not really good odds. ? I think they need a different calling!

The minute they said Jaclyns boyfriend had died, I knew it was going to be a major problem (and major storyline). Something like that takes a lot of time to recover from.

Ryan seems very intense, he works numerous jobs, he seems to want to be married because that’s “what he’s supposed to do” like checking a box…done, next? People are complex, his new wife Jaclyn will need to be handled with kid gloves and given space to grow and trust in him…hope he’s up for that…

I’m worried about all of them from the previews!

The weddings went pretty well I think but the chinks are kinda visable already. Loved that Jephte’s mom welcomed her new daughter in-law in such a touching and heart felt way before the ceremony!!!!

I’m worried too. Jephte seems like a kind of socially awkward person, and Shawniece has zero boundaries or filters. Did the people matching them think they’d each change the other person a little bit? Doesn’t seem likely. I felt a little differently about Jephte’s mom interrupting the ceremony – I thought she was an attention-seeker and could have given Shawniece the belt at another time. I think it was just an excuse to show that she had control. The mom will give them trouble.

I don’t know about Ryan and Jaclyn. There’s something a little off about him, and she has the whole dead boyfriend thing going on. Still, if she’s not over it, why did she sign up for this>

Jonathan gives me numerous red flag warnings – I’ll have to wait and see if I’m wrong. Molly seemed to take the news that he was unemployed quite well, but we’ll see how she really feels about it when they move in together. They’re a very good-looking couple, and look fabulous together, but we’ve seen many couples like that where there just wasn’t enough substance to hold them together.

Looking forward to the next episode.

Ryan gives me a little “Just Jack” (from Will and Grace) vibe, and I don’t think Jaclin had worked through her boyfriend’s death. Kroger is obviously concerned about his image as a teacher, and Shawniece is way out there for him. I like Jon and Molly, hope he finds a job soon!

Everybody wait….this is my SON! He is not awkward.

God is always looking at us and that’s why we shouldn’t masturbate.

        Amen.

I see your point about Jephte’s mom. He’s a momma’s boy and that may be why he’s a bit socially awkward? His wife is very outgoing! It does seem like the matchmakers picked a polar opposite couple here.

What I don’t understand is all the pressure to consummate the marriage on the wedding night! They are strangers!

Yes! And the ones who don’t want to do it until they decide if they even like each other, let alone love the other person, are made to feel weird about it. Doug and Jamie are a good example – she didn’t feel any attraction to him at first, but they stuck it out and are still together, with a baby. She took a lot of heat for not jumping into a sexual relationship with him. I guess if you’re used to one-night stands, or casual sex, and you’re OK with that, then it’s no big deal. It would be easier than for someone who looks for love or commitment before intimacy. The period of time they get to spend together before deciding whether or not to stay married makes it difficult too – it’s not very long, especially if they’r experiencing good times mixed in with bad ones, which most of them do.

They are a perfect example of learning about each other, staying committed to the marriage because they are all legally married. For most people that comes with respecting that commitment first! They hadn’t consummated their marriage after “experiment” was over but remained together and from all appearances they are still happily married.

Jephte is a complete turnoff. Such a momma’ boy and doesn’t seem to have a backbone. He is not a grown ass man but a 12 year old boy in a man’s body. Shawniece comes on strong but that could be nerves. I would run as fast as I could if I were her.
The other two couples seem to be a fairly good match. This is my first year watching this show and I am enjoying it so far.
