I’m not against a good dating show, and I love shows that take place in foreign countries, so I am hopeful that this might be good new show for us. Generally though, y’all don’t watch shows set outside the US which is why we can’t have nice things like Tour Group and Ladies to London, so I am going to try not to get too attached.
Diann Valentine and her two “love assistants” have rented a gorgeous home in Rome for five lucky women to live for five weeks and look for love. The first hopeful is Gina Neely, who is divorced and in her fifties. She was married for many years to her ex-husband and have daughters who were all on a family cooking show on the Food Network.
Next through the door is Shay. She is 38 and from Houston. She fan girls out over Gina Neely who she used to look up as a role model. They seemed like the perfect black couple cooking together on TV. Gina seems a bit irritated by the adoration and tells us she there for love and the lavish lifestyle and she is not going to be in the kitchen.
Mercedes is 25 and from Miramar, Florida. Nakita is 37 from Bollingbrook, Illinois. Nakita and Shay know each other and are going to be besties for the entire time they spend in Rome. That seems odd. And finally, Ashley is 32 and from Covington, Louisiana. Ashley has two young kids at home. Please let all of the squealing stop. Everyone seems to think Ashley is the prettiest, but in my opinion, it’s Nakita.
Mercedes thinks she knows everything, because she is 25. She also shared that her father, who is deceased had a couple dozen children with other women.
At the beginning of the show, these women said they were not loud and overbearing. They lied. Ashley is twerking down the road and kissing random men along the way. I am losing interest in this show.
I do like Diann, the love counselor. She sees Ashley trying too hard, and Nakita lacking in self-confidence.Ashley latched on to the first guy who spoke to her and they made out all the way to dinner. The other ladies were not amused. Gina is pouting about not having a good time. How is this possible? She is in Rome! She is choosing to be miserable. IN ROME! Then Ashley sits down and tells the girls she is not big on kissing on the first date. She’s delusional. Nakita is really, really quiet. Gina is not feeling the young loud girls. Their behavior toward the waiter was atrocious.
On the way home, they pass a square where a couple is singing opera. I think it was Shay who drunkenly hugged them both. Gina loved it and said it made up for her bad night. Back at the house, Nakita has a breakdown over her divorce.
Well that was interesting. I still don’t have the women straight in my head. I know Gina, and Lakita and Mercedes, I think it is Shay and Ashley that I keep mixing up. I’ll give it another episode or two, but if all the loud, obnoxious behavior continues, I’ll be out. It gives me anxiety.
