First of all, the fires out west have been on my mind all week. The photos and videos on Twitter were so horrific they seemed like something out of a horror movie. The people on social media offering beds in their homes to those evacuating, and the people with horse trailers offering to evacuate horses reminded me that even in all the crazy that is going on, there are good people in the world.

Please let us know how you are doing  if you are among those that evacuated. Many of the Beverly Hills housewives, LVP, Kyle, Adrienne to name a few evacuated during the fire. Adrienne posted photos of her with her boys back in the house. It looks like she spared no expense on the holiday decorations this year.  How are your decorations coming a long?

Speaking of crazy things happening, the weatherman says we got ten inches of snow in Atlanta today. As it was melting today many people are without power. My sister and her tribe are among them. My driveway is still covered in snow and there are some fairly large limbs down in the yard.

I’ve never seen so much snow in Atlanta and he was really beautiful. In fact I stayed up all night looking at it. Banjo and I have been in and out playing in it for the last 24 hours. I even managed to lock us out of the house once!

So what is going on in your neck of the woods?

I live about 70 miles north of the Ventura fires, and know the areas that have been devastated. My heart grieves for all those who lost their homes, and for the animals who perished. It’s far from over, they say the wind is going to pick up again this weekend, which makes it impossible for air support to leave the ground. Wish there was something I could do to help – all that we’ve seen up here is poor air quality. The photos definitely look like something out of a film about nuclear firestorms – people just don’t have time to do much more than flee with the clothes on their backs. Also, the main North-South freeway between central CA and the LA area has been closed off and on, which is always a problem here when there’s any calamity that impacts that part of the coastline. Everyone, please keep those fighting the fires and those affected in your thoughts and prayers.

When I was a little girl in the 50’s I spent summers with my great aunts in Santa Paula and we always went to Ventura to visit another aunt and to see the ocean. I remember all those gorgeous orchards all over the area.

I have seen the pictures and read the horror stories, especially of the horses perished and just sat here and cried. So many people helping, but just no time.

Those first responders…words just aren’t enough for what they do and are doing.

Stay safe..those winds change in a heartbeat.

EnglishRose, the Salinas valley had haze from the fires last Friday.

NASA has some amazing photos of the smoke banks growing from their inception to what they are now. If you “friend NASA on Facebook, absolutely amazing photos daily from the astronauts or the space station.

Put a small tree up today and made a small wreath by hot glueing cheap Christmas tree toy decorations to a smal woven wood/bamboo wreath.
I clustered them tightly together in the curve at the bottom and up the sides with a big wired bow. It tuned out so well. For the Grandsons teepee.

Banjo’s tummy was making noise and he kept want to go outside ten minutes after he came in. So I started watching him and he is just sitting straight up in the snow looking around. He loves the snow.

I also just made an interesting discovery. I suddenly remember to let the faucet drip. When the tub and the bathroom sink and the kitchen sink are on at the same time there is ZERO water pressure in the kitchen. Who knew?

Don’t forget to drip your faucets.

You don’t need to drip your faucets if you have heat.

We had probably 4-6 inches but nothing stuck. Just too warm. Instead today we had Santacon which was gross.

    Happy Weekend.

Sorry, but it IS necessary to drip faucets, especially if iiving in a mobile home. Sewer pipes can also freeze. One of my tenants forgot to drip one night (in spite f my text reminding him) & froze his pipes. MY SIL went over & put a hair dryer on the pipe & unfroze it before pipe burst. I text every tenant with a reminder every day a freeze is forecast. Another problem is exposed outside faucets. Just yesterday I gave every tenant a styrofoam cover for those, along with a detailed memo of preventative action. If an exterior faucet has an exposed pipe, that needs to be wrapped with fabric or foam. A frozen pipe can cost thousands if it bursts. Other than fire, this is my greatest landlording nightmare, even though a broken septic pump, like I had last week in a rental, is also a horror story.

That’s not true. If temps don’t rise above 32 degrees during day and night you have to drip all pipes. Heat doesn’t reach pipes in walls or crawl spaces. Also shut off and drain outside faucets during the winter.

NAA, their housing has exposed piping usually with a faucet but not always. Or their pipes are exposed under the moble home. You are rught the insulation could be better. I’ve a small guest house and on its north side the water pipe comes away from the house about 5”-6” and it burst one year. Shit happens.

I ASKED SANTA FOR A BEACH HOUSE!

I live in a ghetto shack built in the fifties. It has a super scary crawl space all under the house. It’s imperative I drip my faucets if I don’t want my pipes to burst. Other nicer houses in the ghetto, in the south have these things called basements. Some of them are unfinished, they too need to drip their faucets. Also our pipes are metal not PVC. Especially if you live in a POS clapboard house built in the 1950s.

Why must we explain EVERYTHING TO THE YANKEES? Cheeze wiz, Underwood Deviled hams, the difference between ice storms and snow storms, country music, and now how water pipes freeze in winter!

            December 10, 2017 at 2:21 pm

No, you really don’t. But your closet doors should be left open, pipes and faucets should be insulated and/or drained outside, and especially if you have a sprinkler system you should be sure that none of your heat registers are covered in your house. If your attic access is in a cooler part of the house, as mine once was (although I didn’t have pipes up there in that house) it might be advisable to somehow push heat there either through a space heater or a small fan that helps circulate heat into that area.

Me, in the winter when and if I leave the house for a longer period of time and because my heat system is old or I am afraid the power goes out, I either drain all the pipes by shutting the water off (and opening the lowest faucet) or I leave the tub dripping slightly in what I think is the coolest bathroom in my house. Of course, the drip method doesn’t do you any good if the power goes out and you are on a well.

It’s definitely on a case by case basis, depending upon the construction of the home and location of the pipes relative to heat and insulation. I grew up in Montana and don’t recall ever having to trickle the faucets. However, when living in homes that aren’t built as well to handle the cold weather (poorly insulated pipes running along outside walls) I’m more careful during freezing weather.

We certainly enjoyed Thursday’s snow here in Houston, but I’m glad that it’s already melted and the sun is out today.

But from what I know of hate I hold with ice, and it would suffice.” Here in the Smokies we had fire last year and it was terrifying. My ex is a firefighter and told me he thought they were going to have to let Gatlinburg burn to the ground. Yesterday the most beautiful snowfall. I’m happy you and Banjo are enjoying the snow!

ok…my disclaimer – I observe from Canada, in a province with 151 and over forest fires in our province (like a state)

This fire in California went for 5 days (and counting), usually by this time (or before) Celebrities across U.S.A. would have put together a campaign to raise money to help the victims/survivors. Why isn’t this happening for Cali?

Many celebs did have to evacuate, I looked at pics of their trailer’s of belongings…but 10K and over, citizens that are 9-5’ers evacuated and had pets die or run away…so where is the fundraiser?

The Napa -Santa Rosa fires were as devastating with over 20 people dying just a few weeks ago. Local fundraisers but nothing from the other states, nothing I’ve heard of.
California pays huge amount of dollars to the Federal government.

I’m not a fan of all California but we don’t deserve the contempt from other states.

Over 25 race horse’s were killed, that count will go up. Two local girls have loaded up two trucks hauling trailers full of hay and horse feed headed out today for one of the race tracks taking in horses. People in the state will come through but no one expects much from anywhere else.

samael – I live in AZ and I wondered about the celebrity fundraising in and for Texas and for Las Vegas and other places. All were certainly justified, but when Napa CA and the Pacific NW were burning in October I didn’t see anyone running to start a fundraiser. The same now. Maybe it’s too soon.

Many, many people were left homeless by the hurricanes, etc., but the fires have and are, doing the same and lots probably didn’t have insurance to rebuild or even move and start over. What do they do? Wait for a check from FEMA? What if their car was in their burned down garage? If they just got away with the clothes on their backs and lost their wallets, etc., how do they even get on a bus or in a cab? Why not a local fundraiser check for groceries and hotels and veterinarians and doctors, whatever?

I don’t get it. It shouldn’t matter if it is CA or TX. People need help and a telethon would work for CA as well as TX.

People all over the world love horses. That alone should be enough to start something for their care and vet bills for people who have lost everything.

Time will tell if anyone steps up.

Samuel and Minnimeow, if the house isn’t paid for it has to have fire insurance. If people have done renovations or have expansive out buildings, landscaping often they do not update their fire policy.
          Policy will not cover rebuilding.
I’ve friends who lost a magnificent home, paid for but way undervalued fire policy in the Bid Sur Fire about 2 years ago. They’ve good incomes and will rebuild but working with Monterey county in Big Sur it will cost them maybe $300,000 more because of delays. New building codes will out price some homeowners from rebuilding.
Everything is s ness. I donated to the horse feed and will continue.

TT when it is freezing you can let one faucet drip and that should keep the pipes from freezing. Here it doesn’t happen often, freezing, but we wrap a blanket or heavy piece of fabric around the outside faucet.

To be fair, I think I am probably not being told how scary it is. My mom’s street was on fire, but they are saying that their house is still there. All that counts is she is okay.
My sister and her partner the weekend before last at 2:15a.m. heard a rumble (thought earthquake) then a explosion, then another explosion. The neighbors who have horses also had the corral explode from propane. Horse was panicked, finally got the horse out and in their corral. Family was freaking out. My sister and animals were freaking out, just awful. So here, two weeks later, wildfires that are really scary. I can tell by my sister’s tone, no one seems to truly be “okay”. My news is just saying almost nothing now, making it seem like all is under control. So actually, guess I have to be patient until I hear directly from my mom. Until then, “everyone and everything okay” is enough.

Cheryl, I don’t know about your family’s area but go to Cal-Fire sites, there are several for updates.

There are two large race tracks (1 in SDiego area) taking in large animals and the people that go with them if your sister can get to one at least until the smoke clears.
Fire Chiefs are saying they are expecting fires to burn until Christmas and some are are going to burn to the freeway or coastline.

        Good thoughts for your family.

My sister has been through so much, and she is getting stuck with updates, so maybe I can help.
I saw where DelMar fairgrounds are taking animals (yay).
Calipatti, thanks, like my sister and I said, we so badly want things to calm down. As I’m sure we all do. My anxiety has anxiety, lol.

Your call could be the beginning of a new story. One of the hardest things I’ve had to do in life was forgive my mother, have no expectations if her and accept who she was. Once I did that I was able to have a relationship with her. On my terms.

I am saving it for “Winter Break” (I head to my parents for Christmas a few days early so I can help them prepare for company, and usually out of sheer laziness I don’t leave for a couple of days afterward). The Crown will be PERFECT when the parental units say “Damn, there is nothing on”

Otherwise my ass would be marathoning it right now. I LOOOOOVE that show!

The sky here on the CA central coast is bizarre this morning – an unearthly orange glow everywhere – must be all the gunk in the air. They sent out an emergency mandatory evacuation order for north of Carpinteria in the night, which is just inside the southern part of the Santa Barbara County line, so it has spread one county further north. Still over an hour south of us. Can’t believe what’s happening in Ventura County – absolute devastation. I read that horses in two highly prestigious stables were killed – almost 30 in each one. Also one poor lady killed after she got in an accident while evacuating. Horrible. It seems as though each part of the country is getting hit, one after the other, and now it’s CA’s turn. Strange to think that so much of the country is being impacted by snow while SoCal is burning – hope you’re all OK. Please keep praying for the fireman and other first responders, as well as those who have lost their homes, or are in danger..

It seems minor in comparison to freezing weather and fires, but I kind of got blindsided by a FB post by someone I thought was a “male ally” on FB. He was defending Franken, basically saying in so many words that a “squeeze in for a photo op” couldn’t possibly be assault or inappropriate.

It is difficult to civilly debate it with him – in part because my defense is my “me too” and when I comment, all my FB friends (including family members) can read it. I can’t put this particular mee too out there because it isn’t just my story and if I tell it, people will be able to guess the other girls (we were girls at the time). It has to do with one of our teachers. It wasn’t blatant, but he often made comments, or looked down our shirts – and while I don’t advocate for a teacher NEVER touching a student and you certainly have to brush by a student in a tight aisle sometimes, there was something inappropriate about him the few times he “accidentally” touched our backs.

Sure, there was something a little stinky about the initial accusers story – but my friend is dismissing the other seven women. They include democrats. I agree, Franken is a loss to “our” side as he is very smart and is one asking questions that need to be asked, but he isn’t the only one in existence. The women senators that called for his resignation last week are also smart and can ask those questions. He’s actually being dismissive of the fact that DEMOCRATIC WOMEN called for his resignation openly and publically, and there is a STRONG possibility that they personally know some of those accusers who were identified only as women who worked in Congress and are still in DC.

      Agreed, and I hope so.

Now, if the Dems don’t understand that the extremist Bernie Bros can be just as damaging to the party as the Tea Party extremists have been to the Republican party, I’ll probably wash my hands of them.

Had a good face to face discussion with a friend last night. He really identified with a recent op ed piece where a traditionally conservative (fiscal type) said that moderate former Republicans are “homeless” politically speaking.

My heart goes out to those affected by the California wildfires. Prayers to those who have lost homes and animals. The huge amount of snow we got in Atlanta is so odd for this time of year. Luckily mostly soft snow and little to no ice. Loving watching The Crown as well. I do hate the Michael C. Hall version of JFK however. He is really boorish and not attractive in the role at all. I always loved him in Dexter. I also thought he was great looking in that as well. The actress who plays Jackie is quite good though. Claire Foy is simply amazing as Queen Elizabeth.

My sister had no electricity for 8 houses yesterday. About a million people live with her. That must have been fun. Plus my niece had a seizure.

I went to bed early last night, aka about 1 am woke up at nine and let the dog out. Ate some chicken soup flipped over to the news to see if we’d bombed anyone over night and fell back to sleep. Woke up at some point mid afternoon, turned on Marriage Boot Camp and don’t remember much of it because I fell back to sleep and didn’t wake up until almost 6 pm. If I didn’t have to get up to recap RHOA, I’d still be sleeping.

I am currently running water through all my pipes.

I don’t use enough water to sometimes even be charged. I have a shower and two sinks. Absolutely nothing else that uses water in this house. When I don’t bath or do dishes, I really need to flush the water lines sometimes.

I do the top knot thing too. It’s actually good for your hair to wash it as little as possible. Mine is very dry and naturally curly. I do undo the bun once or twice a day and brush it out. It’s AMAZING how tangled it can get while in a top Knot!

Sorry about your hair, I expected the ending to be “and I love it short!” I hear of lot of those stories lately.

Does your current treatment plan include chemo, Daintyfeets? Try using a bit of KMS Curl Up on the hair you still have, if you have any natural curl at all, it will enhance it. xo

Stay safe, California commenters. I cannot imagine the terror and heartbreak of such a destructive force.

Our first snow came and went in a day, so doesn’t count. Still gave me an excuse to binge watch a series on Netflix that I am now quite in love with. Intelligent bad-ass women, and incredible scenery in Australia, Thailand and New Zealand. The women are the true stars, unlike Godless, which SHOULD have been a woman-focused movie.

Wanted is an Australian show about two women strangers who get caught up in a murder, and go on the lam. Unfortunately, S2 ends on a cliffhanger and we will have to wait until October 2018 to see S3. Ugh.
If you don’t have Netflix, you can watch a month free – winter’s a good time to catch up on the good stuff Netflix has to offer.

She kind of broke up talking about the homes/friends. She then said the phone was breaking up, but I got an “I love you” in there, so happy. She did say that there are no words to describe. They are safe in a home miles from the fires (at this time).

Your bamboo should be fine. There is a house somewhere between Cleveland and Helen that has a bamboo grove on the side of the house. They’ve probably had a lot of bad weather over the years. Bamboo is hardy, it looks like my azalea and gardenia plants are going to make it after just a few months so your bamboo should be fine. Just in case have you thought about about Leyland Cypress? They grow about 3-5 feet a year. They are not expensive and great at blocking creepy neighbors, speaking from experience.

No, from probably age 5. It was well known my sister and brother were treated totally different. She just said sorry, can’t help it. I’d wake up daily and she could go all day being/acting mad at me but not ever give me a clue as to what or why. That’s why I sometimes obsess over if I think I made someone upset and must find out.
She’s lived a great life, husbands, boyfriends, just how it is. She’s very active independent, very lucky and fortunate.

Cheryl, just remember – whatever the reason for the way she treated you, it’s her failure, not yours, and it’s a crime that a mother would actually tell her daughter that she doesn’t like her. Also, there is no way you could have done anything to anyone at age 5 that would excuse her cruel behavior. I know it has to hurt, and it’s easy for people to say that you should try to ignore it, but it’s not that easy. Still, you are obviously an awesome woman, so her lack of being the kind of mother she should have been is her loss. She’s missed out on a lot of wonderful interactions with you, but all you can do is to make sure you’re the kind of mother she wasn’t, which you’ve done. We’re none of us perfect moms, but I think that, as long as we know we always tried our best given our circumstances at the time, we can consider ourselves huge successes. Try to turn your hurt feelings into pity for her, and be proud of who you are.

My mother was the same with me, Cheryl. Despised me from my time in the womb. Has we both aged, we had many discussions about it. We did our discussing through emails, which is the only way that would have been safe for her to be honest. She explained it, I accepted it and forgave her. It was never about me. I stopped loathing myself once I realized every negative thing she did and said to me over a lifetime was not true. Result of that honesty = freedom.

But I had to wait outside at the door until they all were done, then I could come in and sit down and eat. I was 29 years old. By then, I just assumed (now being a parent), it was me. I’m too scared to bring that up, but would love to know that reason. I can’t even ask why because it’s so ridiculous how I stood there, and I had to, that it is I believe just is, and fortunately I can finally tell my story. By telling it though, it could be it was me. I’m just not able to figure out why, if that’s the answer. I’m embarrassed and don’t know if I should even say all this, but it does feel good.Deep down, I know what is right. The best thing is having to finally say it once, and put away forever. And stop trying to figure out those occasions when it pops up.
Thank you so much for sharing your situation. That’s what it is, a situation.

Another new show from TLC that’s looks like a real doozy. “LOVE AFTER LOCKUP.” Am I the only one that will be watching this train wreck?

I will keep an eye out. Can’t wait or miss that gem, lol.

TT and all of you that I think know who you are. Thank you for just making a place exist that can just make the hardest things easier.
I just wanted to say that before shutting down for the night.
Everyone be safe, and until we chat again. Goodnight. ???

Tamara, did you get that 3 second shout out that you wrote about a few weeks ago? You wrote it was a possibility, and I’m curious.

Hi Daintyfeets. Didn’t want to answer for TT, but in case your watching the episodes, her site was on a different episode. I think it’s the one about Cynthia and her man.(I don’t know what number)
Personally, I thought TT’s was even better and longer than the other ones, lol.

RHOA. Originally thought it was going to be the Kenya wedding episode (episode one). But it ended up I think possibly episode two (Cynthia and her man) let me see what On Demand says, umm. It seems like episode two is the only one that pertains to Cynthia and her man according to the guide. Try that. Fingers crossed, but it was shown. Yay!!

Hope you are having a good day.
I was kind of bummed that TT’s RHOA debut was late, but still so exciting!!
You take care and enjoy your day. ??
