Jackie Beard Robinson, the original owner of Envy the boutique that Melissa worked in before taking over the shop entirely, is suing Andy Cohen, Melissa Gorga and NBCu for damages.
When I first read the title of the exclusive report on The Blast, I could not imagine that Andy Cohen was in anyway liable for defamation that happened on the show. I am also wondering about the release that Jackie signed to allow filming. There is usually a clause that says you can’t sue for defamation for things that air on the show.
So here is the situation. If you remember, Melissa claimed on RHONJ that Jackie snuck in like a thief in the night and stole all of the inventory out of the store as well as the electronics and display items. In Jackie’s court filings said she went to the store during the day and removed all of the property that she had paid for. She would later take the inventory and sell it off at Kim D’s Posche store.
This claim may not be actionable depending on her signed release. But wait, there is more!
The second count of defamation occurred on WWHL when Melissa was on the show. It was there that Melissa repeated her claims and Andy made a comment about Jackie “ripping off” Melissa. A comment that Melissa agreed with. Basically they both called her a thief. That is how Andy got involved in lawsuit. So she may have a case here. The inclusion of the network responsible for the show is just sort of par for the course.
Jackie is asking for $30 million. That will never happen.
