Below Deck: The Champagne Campaign

December 5, 2017 by tamaratattles 46 Comments

It’s the final night of the final charter and most everyone is ready for it to be over, except for Brianna it seems. She probably knows that the charter ends her fling with Nico. Kate and Kyle talk about their issues briefly before she sends him off to don a clown suit for the evenings carnival festivities and fireworks. Matt is going all out with a fantastic seafood tower and other goodies. The crew sets up a champagne tower and blows up a ton of balloons and gets into a costume. Jen is a mime for obvious reasons. It seems that Kyle still has hurt feeling about Kate being snippy with him which he airs to Nico. Nico is happy to jump on the Kate bashing train with him. Dinner is a huge success.

After dinner the primary requested a champagne fight with the crew. Thankfully, Captain Lee feels the same way about this activity as I do. He says, ” Mr. Sykes stands a better chance seeing God two times in the next thirty seconds before he’s ever going to spray me with a bottle of champagne.” For a dash of extra stupidity, they have pies to throw in each others faces. Obviously this made a huge, huge mess on the deck.

The next morning, Jen sleeps through breakfast. Of course.

Tim leaves happy for a change and gives a really, really, fat tip to Captain Lee. The interior crew celebrates with champagne. Kate and Bri try to tell Jen how annoying she is. Jen plays victim and storms off. That is sort of emblematic of the entire season.

It’s time for the last tip of the day. Captain Lee gives everyone good reviews for the most part. Captain Lee officially promoted Nico to Bosun and presented him with his stripes. He seemed genuinely impressed. They got $30,000 in tips! Wow! That is $2,720 per person! I think that was about my monthly salary when I first started teaching!

The crew takes a bunch of champagne up to the top of a fort to watch the last sunset of the season together. Nico starts crying because he is missing his brother that passed away.

They return to the ship and get ready for their last night on the town. Brianna has a talking head and tells us that Nico has been a bit cold toward her ever since they spent the night in the hotel. She’s not sure what is going on with their plans to stay in the islands together for a few extra days.

Nico pulls Bri aside very early in the evening and tells her that he has to go home early because of things he doesn’t want to talk about concerning his family. He doesn’t want her to think he is just bailing on her. Jesus this guy can’t even properly dump a girl. She is literally comforting him for breaking up with her. Because she doesn’t even realize he is dumping her.

Jen hunts down Kate to try to find out what she did that caused her to be so mistreated all season. Um Jen, it’s what you didn’t do mostly and your sassy mouth. Kate shuts her down.

Back on the boat for the final night things must have been awkward for Nico and Bri. Bruno cries the next morning because he is leaving. Kyle leaves hugging everyone. He is a bit miffed that he and Kate are leaving on bad terms. Bruno nervously asks Captain Lee for a letter of reference and he agrees. Bruno looks forward to more yachting in his future. Matt is off to Canada to hone his craft for the next time. Baker is proud of her growth as a deckhand. Kate and Jen have the awkward hug and Jen leaves.

Bri leaves slightly broken-hearted. Nico’s girlfriend will be picking him up from the airport. I’m not sure I want to see Nico on future seasons. Oddly, I have gotten over my hatred of Kate. I can’t imagine a season without her now. Kate wants to come on the next season as a guest. Captain Lee says that eventually the crew did a good job in spite of themselves. Captain Lee says he still has the best damn job in the world.

Captain Lee filmed an end note about the terrible damage that hurricane Maria did to the islands. Most of it was cut off by my DVR.

I really enjoyed this season. Did you?

Loved this season, even without Ben (but I do hope he comes back for season 6). This is my favorite Bravo show because of the scenery, bitchy Kate humor, Captain Lee one-liners, guys with abs and nasty guests. Looking forward to the Med season and Italy.

Me too. Loved loved this season …….but I’ve loved every season since day one. Wish Below Deck was on weekly. I would not watched Stripped. Previews were stupid and not one thing I’d be interested in. BRAVO must be hard up to put trash like that on….oh well they have WWHL on nightly so go figure.
Can’t believe I’m saying this but I also cannot imagine a season w/o Kate. She is such a hard a_ _ you always wonder what’s going to come out of her mouth next….who will be her next victim.
Love Captain Lee, almost cried with Bruno. Great season!!!!!!

Why Nico and Bri got stripes was ridiculous. EJ trained the exterior and said Nico wasn’t ready to be Bosun. I think Bri was sneaky and did goof off like Jen said and Jen got blamed for it even though most of the time Jen did not get up in the morning and worried about her stupid hair. That’s why drunk lady after Capt. Lee gave a small tip since Jen wasn’t up to serve coffee. That time Kate was on shore with picnic for 5 hours and a lot wasn’t done by both stews. Looking forward to Italy.

I agree it was not fair. I was not that impressed with Bri and she got points for not being a whiner, but she didn’t deserve stripes when she was so green. I liked Jen and she did work hard but she talked back and was late. I doubt she will do this as a career. She might have just wanted some fast money and to be on TV .

This season grew on me. I do wish that that Jen would have left with Chris Brown but I’ll acknowledge that she brought the drama. Annoying “I want to smack her” drama, but it gave me something to crab about with my friends. I’ve been a fan of Kate since the rocket ship blanket and Captain Lee from season one. I enjoy seeing a mix of old and new crew/cast each season and how their skills process. Below Deck is the only show I watch in real time and I’m going to miss it.

Your recaps are the icing on my favorite reality show. Thanks TT!

I enjoyed the season also. The one thing I would have dreamed of doing would be to cut Jen’s hair while she slept. Maybe then she could have made it upstairs on time. Glad Matt quit drinking, he is a much nicer guy sober.

Fun season can’t believe it’s over. I love Bruno and Baker. Two very top notch souls. That’s tr a rare trait in reality Bravo. There was never a hint of them ever being inauthentic. I always wonder if I ever came across the money to book a yacht would I still be me or some pretentious chit. The middle age mean drunk woman a bit back sucked. I’m a tomboy and find it hard to relate and build female friendships. My husband swears I am one molecule from being all male. I’d hate to be in her circle. How much of the other women sold their dignity cuz she’s HBIC.
Not worth it I’ll pay for a John boat rental and get my golden retriever Maverick first. He’s my ride or die. It was a ok season I wanted more scenery I love dreaming of what ifs and it fell a tiny bit short this time. No words on Jen. Ima mom to a 8 yr old and there is no way in hell I would take off for 6 weeks. The window is so short from smell his hair and I’m his superhero to 12-15 and they literally cannot stand to breath the same air. But I totally would have Baker and Bruno for a holiday of Florida sun and surf 100%.

I know the general area where you live and love it. I have a new pair of Merrells coming and am REALLY bad with relationships. Like awful. Maybe I should move there and we could be friends. But not like too close. Just we go out for a beer sometimes. I will also flirt with your husband. But he will not be interested. Because if he were interested, I would not want to flirt with him. I will also need you to find me a gay best friend (male)

Don’t feel creeped out. As badly as I WANT to move, I am way too lazy to ACTUALLY do all the shit you have to do to get the fuck out of this ghetto and into a new one. 🙂

This season had to grow on me. I definitely didn’t like at first because of all the green crew and watching them screw everything like one endless yachting blooper reel. Glad they finally found some synergy and got it together. Hate hate hate Jen. She was so annoying and her for all the time she spent on her hair, it looked terrible. I like Kate, it wouldn’t be BD without her.

Loved the “green crew” because for once it was one mess up after another and Captain Lee got so hot and bothered lolololol. It was fun to watch him losing his temper. All women had bad hair days everyday. What’s with them they always looked so ragged out? I know it has to be hard work as we got to see them all running around like crazy quite often.

This was my least favorite season. This was my favorite of all Bravo shows until now. I fear they are taking BD in the same direction as they did the HW shows by creating producer made drama not allowing the normal drama that goes with relationships. I can not get past the belief that hiring a green crew was intentional. While Jen needs to grow up, Kate begin yelling at her from the moment she got there. Kate was always my favorite, but I list so much respect for her this season. She may do her job well with a well trained crew, but she is not good at training. Something Bravo knew when they decided to hire a green crew.
Anyway, I did enjoy the day to day interactions
between the crews in seasons past. This season was just too much bitching manufactured for TV BS.
I am looking forward to the reunion. Personally, I hope Nico’s back home GF kicked him to the curb. I am curious to see Bi’s reaction to him after she watches the show.
I miss Been, but like Matt .
Tonight when Kate when off on Kyle about his feelings, did she not ask him about his mental health ? Just like when she asked the crew about improvements and he spoke up, she is still crying about that. Why ask a question if you can not, will not listen to the answer ?
Yep, Kate disappointed the crap out of me this season.
The very best part of all the Bravo shows is of course reading TT’s recaps and all the different comments.

Although, the worst one I had was actually a co-worker. She had seniority over me for a while, but wasn’t my supervisor (if that makes sense). She had a certain, important role in our office and she was always whiney like Jen.

Lucky me had to go over her work and bring the fuck ups back to her, or fix them and let her know what I had to do. She HATED me. Took it personal how much I was bringing shit to her desk.

This season was dumb. I ff through most of it. The jumping on Jen all the time was childish and stupid. I am glad the chef didn’t join in. He and Jen were my favorites. Karma got Bruno good. I just wish that his leg would have been chopped off by that rope for putting his hands on Jen. I wish she would have scratched his eyes out. Kate is an ignorant and silly bitch. Too bad nobody puts her in her place. I am not sure why she is in charge, she sucks. I hit MUTE every time that bitch talks. Kyle is a woman hater. He always gets into it with women and NOT men. What a frickin pussy. Captain Lee has a very filthy mouth. It takes away from me even trying to like his old rickety ass. They need to overhaul the whole crew, except the chef. Nico is a slime ball, but glad chipmunk looking Bri got her Karma too, LOLOL!!!

Jen could t do her job if they added hours to the day, she was useless. And as for Bruno, he was the closest ally that Jen had and she messed up badly. Jen is very messy and pretty much ruined that friendship. Kate is an amazing head stew, she knows the ropes and knows how to pull shit off. And never speak I’ll of Captain Lee, he is the man! Nico is an immature child. He couldn’t be away from his GF for 6 weeks without sleeping with someone else? I also hope his GF kicks him to the curb. She must be mortified after seeing this season.

Likewise, Jen knew she’d be away from her kid for 6 weeks. She probably thought she’d be a star of the show and only when things started to go south, was she crying over/to her kid.

I must be the only one unimpressed with the chef. He seemed super lazy to me and didn’t appear to care about the menus. And his meals were so ordinary. Kate is the only reason he pulled off the last charter.

Imdb has a season two listed with the air date of “2018” The director and a couple of the actors I believe are on some other show I forget what but we should probably be watching it. So they could not go straight into producing the second season. So not sure how long we have to wait. But it will be worth the wait.

Below Deck is sort of always casting. The problem is hurricane Maria knocked out the islands. They may push back production or move the locations to parts of the Caribbean who were not as affected.

Isn’t that the truth. Once you become a parent, our dreams are pushed aside until our kids are gown adults. in the mean time, we dream for our children. We set our dreams aside until after our kids are grown and functioning in society. She is trash. I feel sorry for her daughter, and her parents should be ashamed of themselves for agreeing to watch her daughter while she went on TV and made a total ass out of herself for 6 weeks.

Kate is good at her job, despite being on a reality show. She has been at it long enough to suffer no fools. I am the same way with my job and coworkers. I have no patience for incompetence. Nico… yech, nuff said. Jen came on to find a rich man who would appreciate her hair and buy her a yacht of her own. Work was not in her plans. She even said it her parting shot that the “job” was not what she expected. Brianna picked up the nuances of a server’s job quickly, but I suspect she set Jen up on numerous occasions to look bad versus her looking good. Karma is a bitch Brianna when you do the dirty with a taken man. Matt was sweet natured but did not have the skill Ben did. The good news is he acknowledged it at the end and stated that he is going home to work on his game and learn new cooking skills. Bruno’s parting comments were sweet and he seems to be into the yachting experience. He is just slightly clueless and green.

My least favorite season, however I still thoroughly enjoyed! Just binged watched all of the seasons this past month and this is my favorite reality show. It’s so amusing. Kate is tough, but can be funny. Works hard and the show wouldn’t be the same without her.
I still miss Eddie. Sigh. Amy Johnson is the best stew; outgoing and sunny; best with the charter guests.
Oh, and I don’t understand any negativity towards Brianna. She was the most chill stew. Did her work, and picked up Jens slack without complaining. Efficient. Not nasty. Did not chase Nico. Just a mutual attraction. She was zen. I liked her a lot.
Great show. They have to keep making it. Please.
