I’ve posted a lot of Black Friday posts here highlighting black Friday brawls over the years, and this week there really didn’t seem to be many at all. There was one in Alabama and it was basically two women getting into a fight in the middle of a crowd of shoppers. No big deal.
I used to LOVE the crowds of Black Friday and also shopping on Christmas Eve. I don’t really do well with crowds anymore, which is weird because I was raised in Libya and traveling to other places were you very quickly learned how to navigate crowds with ease. Today though, with all the shootings in the world, I am no longer a fan, and no longer have any desire to be in a sea of flesh looking to save a few bucks while buying things I don’t want.
If anything, I am likely to buy a couple of new sets of old man pajama sets at Walmart. They are my new “I’m not leaving the house uniform.”
I went to family Thanksgiving that was SUPER full of people this year. I wasn’t planning to drink, but then I did and realized I’d be staying all night for the super late night adult festivities. I woke up around eight a.m. looking at a really pretty wood ceiling and immediate drove home to my dog.
Then I took a nine-hour nap and am already ready for another one. I had a great time, but it was a whole lot of over stimulation. Around 30 or so family and family friends wandered in and out. I met a new grand-nephew. And enjoyed seeing a couple of my other grand nephews that I don’t spend enough time with, in addition to my siblings and nieces and nephews. It was a lot of fun.
I completely missed black Friday though. But I really needed the rest. Did anyone venture out? What kind of bargains did you find?
We spent the day on the beach again this year eating turkey, boiled peanuts and drinking beer.
I passed out at around 8PM, woke up at 3AM, surfed online at Nordstrom and bought two dresses for $40, rolled over and went back to sleep and that was it.
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving. It sounds like a relatively stress free day with people who love you. That is a bonus.
The online deals were as good as in-store for most places. Bass Pro had $10 jeans and shirts, so we ambled in at 10 am. They were so so quality. Place was packed. Conversations were fun to eavesdrop.
Almost always, almost everywhere, the “deals” are on old or lesser quality merch. We got a gas grill (discontinued model) for half price at Lowes. Tomorrow we burger!
With stores starting Black Friday deals a week out, the actual day is not a deal.
There wasn’t any Black Friday feeling at our local WalMart today, but the sales people said Thanksgiving evening was nutso, with lines all over the store, so I guess it should be called Black Thursday now. I didn’t see any really good deals at all – was looking for a discounted large Farberware electric skillet, since mine finally bit the dust, but found no signs of anything like that – just a bunch of stuff I don’t need. Used to be so much better years ago – you could actually get great deals then. I don’t like crowds either – there’s nothing much I can think of that would be worth standing in line for 45 minutes, except maybe a kiss from The Rock. Plus, it would have to be a really, really good kiss, with maybe a little follow-up. Who am I kidding? My hormones ran away from home a long time ago, although if anyone could bring them back it would be him.
check Macy’s they had or have awesome deals on kitchen ware. I was at Maxy’s when they opened at 5:00 Thursday, my first Black Thursday. They had some great deals they did not have today at 10:00 am. I returned to buy a sweater for the wedding rehearsal which went well.
Last night went for a body shaper & bra for today & Saturday’s wedding.
I bought two for the price of one and bras were normally $40. were $12.00. Found diamond studs for $30. -70% off. Brides gift, done.
We ate dinner at the Plaza Monterey Bay Cannery Row, very nice. Best squash soup ever. They made the one bite pumpkin, pecan and apple pie, mini fudge, bread puddings the bestest ginger cookies and homemade wrapped candies to take with. The best was the dark chocolate mint truffles.
Future DIL just had a dufferebt dress sent over for me to try on that she would prefer I wear tomorrow. I’ll give it a try, she picked out the other one also. Yeah me
Have a safe weekend everyone.
I had a mundane day.. Worked out at Curves, got a couple more sets of jingle bells at Dollar Tree, and gassed up at Sam’s Club.
There was a line for gas ?
Black Friday is only just becoming a thing in Australia so it’s exciting here. Even more than that, we are waiting for Amazon Australia to open (was meant to be Thursday but still waiting). I bet it’s hard to imagine any of us live here without Amazon!
I always bought books and DVDs from the US Amazon website…even with postage it could work out cheaper than buying domestically…we have other online options so stating “bet it’s hard to imagine any of us live here without Amazon” makes us appear primitive, we’re sparsely populated and relatively expensive…hence why foreign businesses don’t establish operations in Australia
In terms of online shopping I think we are primitive.
I’ve got a favorite bra line that I swear by, especially for us larger breasted women (by large, I mean huge) who do anything that makes us bounce, like riding. They run 65-80.00, so I was happy as hell to find them on sale for 26.00. Most comfortable bras ever, even now when I am not active, so…that was the extent of my Black Friday shopping, even though it was completely by accident.
What brand? I hate wearing a bra and I’m always looking for one that is comfortable!
AAL, they are called Enell. Nothing sexy about them but comfortable as hell for a 44DDD woman, and eliminates bounce!
Maybe I could even jog!
Not that i’d want to-too much work.
Enell was a game changer for me (I do like the athletic activities! ). Where was the sale? I usually buy the seconds on ebay for a little less than full price.
I finally found them at Dick’ s Sporting Goods yesterday. I’m only one D but at 5 foot nothing that’s big. Should have had reduction surgery years ago but too old now, it wasn’t a thing back then. But back to the bra. I love it! Put it on about 7 this morning and just took it off. Very comfortable. Glad I bought 2 and will go back for more! I’ve been known to take mine off in the car after work. Thanks for the info!
No major Black Friday deals here, maybe the sous vide device I treated myself to, we had the best steak I’ve ever made for dinner last night.
Only major purchase was the adjustable bed base we ordered, in anticipation of my upcoming surgery which will require me to sleep sitting up for 6 weeks! The excitement of being able to sit up in bed is making the surgery more bearable.
I couldn’t tell you the last time I went Black Friday shopping. I did it religiously when I was younger and when my kids were a lot younger, but I now stay far away from it.. Normally I surf the internet for a deal or 2 but this year I stayed away from it all.
Is black friday a poors thing?
What does this mean?
Good conversation starter: How big would a tv have to be before you would hurt someone to get it?
I have never done store shopping on Black Friday. Parking lot madness and traffic jams just to get into a mall are not something I want to deal with. Plus, I have family/house guests staying all weekend so we just hang out, eat leftovers and take out, watch tv, etc. Much more enjoyable. I haven’t even done any online shopping yet.
My Black Friday involved sitting at a great bar/restaurant and drinking Bloody Marys. Then a buzzed walk on the beach followed by snuggling up and watching TV. I wish all my Fridays were Black!
In my youth, I used to love the Friday after Thanksgiving.. Went to the malls etc. Before the internet. Yes, I am that old.
Now, I would not venture anywhere near a mall. DO 99.9% of my shopping online.

Black Friday lasts for a week over here in the UK…I do wonder though that in the age of political correctness why it is still allowed? surely it should be “no colour Friday?” and then consider the other 6 days of the week , maybe they feel that “Friday ” is dayist ?
LOL. Friday because , it’s the day after thanksgiving in usa.. Black called that only because some businesses give their employees that day off because they had to work on the holiday. oVER HERE IF YOU ARE NOT SCHEDULED TO WORK it is blacked off as being a non working day.on your work schedule.
It is called Black Friday because it is the day when the sales volumes put businesses into the black, i.e., profitable, as opposed to being in the red (unprofitable) up until that day.
This.
How is it possible not to know what Black Friday means? Le Sigh.
It’s called Black Friday because back in the day, merchants used to operate “in the red” (in debt) until the day after Thanksgiving when the holiday shopping season officially began which finally put them “in the black” (making a profit).
At least that has been the meaning for sixty years or so.
Thanks for the explanation. I didn’t know what it was either, we don’t have Thanksgiving in Australia.
95% of my shopping was already done, but poodle & I drove for an hour to take in the Stein Mart sale–60% additional off of Re Dot & Blue Slash Clearance + $15 over toal purchase o $40 or more. Coco Chanel (in her pink stroller) scored lots of attention + 2 new outfits. Bought a few clearance items very cheap, a nifty photo frame & a few more items I can’t remember items. Because clerk make a couple of mistakes in what was rung up I scored 3 different $10 coupons for Dec. shopping. Went to Michael’s & AC Moore for some doorbusters & 60% coupons, then Coco & I had lunch at Cracker Barrel & used the wait time to get some small gifts for 70% off + a Navy sweatshirt at 40% for the 2nd great-granddaughter who is working hard to get into Annapolis with the eventual goal of becoming a naval surgeon. Checked phone & discovered new 60% coupons had been posted for the afternoon, so doubled back to AC Moore & Micheals to spend the new coupons (note that Michaels has a new 60% coupon for this afternoon). Scurried back to Bed, bath, etc. to exchange my defunct bottle o Co2 for my machine that makes sparkling water for my morning OJ. Picked up couple of very small gifts, then used an expired $5.00 coupon (store is still accepting expired coupons) + clerk gave me an additional 25% off. Last stop was the Harley Davidson shop where I bought a Harley t-shirt for 60% off + a gift certificate for my younger daughter’s b’day next week. She rides a Harley (though temporarily not because she hit a deer a couple of weeks ago & is now going through the insurance thing). She was very lucky because such an encounter on a bike usually ends very badly for the driver. My very competent rider didn’t even have to put her bike down & escaped with minor injuries, though the deer was not as lucky. (Granddaughter once hit a bear, so you know our rural roads are dangerous, especially at night.) Oh, & I bought a couple of things online–some $10 Lee Riders jeans from Walmart & a deeply discounted battery charger from Amazon for the great-granddaughter who is getting a car for her 16th birthday in Jan. I didn’t get up this morning until 10:30 & Coco Chanel slept even later, proving that even when fun, shopping requires a lot of energy, especially since Friday was my 75th b’day & the ol’ gal runs out of steam earlier than in past years.
Wow! Impressive at any age, much less at 75. I am far too lazy and unmotivated to be so productive the day after Thanksgiving!
I am exhausted just reading that.
Sorry for the duplicate!
Never have. Never will. Actually, I always got cash for Christmas when I was younger, to spend on clothes during the after Christmas sales. Helped me stay in decent work clothes. And not a lot of money either, nut that was decades ago.
We moved to Northern Michigan 11 years ago. I started using Amazon Prime for the majority of my shopping year round, but make sure to do local small business purchases whenever possible.
