We are greeted by Kandi, Todd and baby Ace. This allows Kandi the opportunity to give us a brief history on how Xscape met Jermaine Dupri and that he signed them as the first artists to his So So Def label. We also find out that Xscape is working on a feature film about their career. This is where we also learn that Jermaine has a production deal with TV One to release an unauthorized biography about the group. LaTocha has arranged a meeting with Jermaine and the ladies to hash out their grievances and hopefully come to some sort of truce.
Enter the Scott Sisters! We get to hear their version of the story, and quickly learn that Tamika and LaTocha have very different opinions of Jermaine and his duplicity. LaTocha is bound by duty to allow him to voice his reasons for the transgression. Whereas Tamika is angry. Tamika received a call from one of the writers of the unauthorized biography and was asked to describe her life story. She also finds out that Jermaine has given them license to use Xscape’s music for the film. LaTocha confirms this and since Jermaine owns the rights to their publishing catalog there is nothing that they can do.
Kandi feels slighted by Jermaine because he never mentions Xscape or their successes when he is asked about his artists.
Let’s pay Tiny a visit! She is in bed with her two daughters Zonnique and Heiress. Is this the first time we have heard her discuss her divorce from Tip? We learn that she is using the reuniting of the group to escape the current events of her life. Zonnique is also a musician and Tiny provides her with the sage advice that she needs to own the rights to her own music.
Finally! The ladies meet with Jermaine Dupri!!! Tiny jumps right in and reiterates that Jermaine never mentions them when asked about his legacy. His defense is that if he mentions them he is then queried about why the group disbanded.
As we begin to peel back the layers of the onion the ladies attempt to try to explain why they broke up. The Scott Sisters say it was about lack of communication and not being able to resolve conflict. Tiny says that there were issues surrounding who got to sing what verse (cut to video of Tamika #shade) Kandi and Tiny are in agreement that LaTocha wanting to go solo was a major tipping point.
Jermaine states that the movie was going on without his knowledge. He was only made privy to it once the producers had to reach out to him to gain access to the Xscape music catalog. ( I see he failed to mention that he requested an EP credit to release the license). JD credits himself for Xscape getting back together for this tour. Kandi is mad as hell. We all know she does not play about anything that cuts into her money. Jermaine agrees to push back the release date of the TV One movie in order to allow the ladies to shop theirs first.
At the tenth rehearsal with only two days before the BET Awards,Drea Kelly ( Hollywood Exes) is back as choreographer. Kandi’s Achilles Heel is dancing. They decide to release the backup dancers to focus on the vocals.
In Los Angeles, the ladies are on the tour bus with their husbands (sans Tip). Tiny explains that Tip is in town to attend Zonnique’s performance. Look at Kandi rocking her Cynthia Bailey Eyewear! We find out later that Tip did not show for Zonnique!
Mona Scott-Young has secured them a lovely rental home. This home has been featured on A&E’s America’s Castles. It was built by a young investment banker who wanted to have all of the conveniences of the Sunset Strip nightclubs without leaving home. #trivia
Angel Brinks ( Basketball Wives LA) is doing the wardrobe for the BET Awards. She arrives to the rental for a fitting. I must say the costumes are pretty revealing. ( I’ll let you form your own opinions on Tamika’s choice) Kandi decides that her outfit is a bit demure compared to the other ladies. She tries on an outfit that Tamika has preselected. It creates a minor rift between the two. I wish they would reveal the REAL reason for the animosity between the two! ( I think it has to do with Kandi hooking up with JD and Tamika is still jealous). Am I the only person that is over all of the augmented butts?
Things go well at the BET Awards and everyone seems happy with their performances. Kandi still seems a bit unsure about just how far she wants to take the group’s reunion though. But for now they celebrate their success.
I was expecting a bit more from this episode. Perhaps they are saving it for the finale?
