Thank goodness I was barefoot and have no ability to throw stuff, because I might have broken the TV with the first, and best, performance of the night. (Side note: Can someone explain the throwing stuff at a good performer thing to me?)
Chris Weaver was spine tingling good tonight. I had literal goosebumps. I knew I was in for a treat since I got a ping on my phone and it was TT telling me about it. She is absolutely right in that the unseen piano player was, and I quote, AMAZEBALLS. I guess she and I are destined to agree with each other on this season. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket or we should have our star charts done? I digress. The house band on this show doesn’t always get enough credit. We love this show for the diversity of artists and genres. The band backs up all of them. Think of some of your favorite performances. None of them were acapella, were they? Honestly, I’d be happy if instead of a “best of” show when we are only a couple of weeks in, they did a “meet our band” episode with a couple of prerecorded coach performances with them tossed in.
Back to Chris for a moment, and his KO partner Katrina Rose. I think Chris can outsing Katrina anyway, but I think she really gave him the edge in over thinking her song and the “message” she wanted to convey about the voices in her head and body image or something like that. I got bored with the explanation. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard “Zombie” and to me it sounded like she was saying “Zambie” a couple of times. Chris’ song choice? I Put a Spell On You. Why? Because he sings it in his drag performance and is excited to sing it as himself. (I didn’t catch his drag name… but I bet she is amazing!). It is also a great song to show off his incredible range, and knowing it so well HAD to help with any nerves he might have had. I couldn’t see or hear any. Again, so happy I was barefoot because I might have damaged my TV tossing my boots at him.
As for the other two Knock Out rounds, you should check out Red Marlow. I think he might be a new fave. First, in the practice round he praised his competition and gave her a big hug. Not in a creepy way, but in a I give great hugs way. After the performances Miley blew him a quick kiss, and he immediately sent one back. Normally I would think this was slightly weird, but again, big old gentle guy vibe. Finally, there was a purity to his performance, and any Randy Travis fans out there? There was a quality to some of the lines he was singing that made me think of Randy. Blake could sneak in a win with Red here.
The really remarkable thing in the last Knock Outs was who Adam picked as the winner. Does Adam smoke weed? I’ve always thought he was fairly “clean” in that regard, but his being high is the only explanation. Anthony Alexander’s singing was forgettable. I can’t remember really a single note, and I almost fell asleep. Hannah Mrozak was the better performance of the two, although I thought she overworked some of the runs. She’s lucky Jennifer still had a steal. I’m still kind of pissed Stephan went home though, and those two are staying.
So me an Erica are just going to talk amongst ourselves until y’all get on The Voice train with us. We aren’t even fighting this season because most every performance is simply amazing.
Y’all are totes missing out.
Pass the Skinnygirl popcorn.
No tote here Tamara! The Voice is my freaking favorite show! Holds the Number 1 spot on my DVR timer. Every season my ole man and me have some serious bets between us on picking the winner. Loving that you and Erica are recapping. So far, I am feeling a female winner this season. There are just too many strong female singers this year.
I agree with you on Adam’s choice. Hannah’s performance was much better and I’m glad she’s still in it. There is a lot of talent on that show.
I’m all in on The Voice train but I really enjoy all the comments so I’ll grab some popcorn and kick back!
Agreed on all fronts. Adam must’ve smoked some bad weed to make that decision! He was so on the “bro train” with that choice.
Love love love Jennifer’s coaching style. I hope she’s asked back in the future. She really has a great ear and isn’t afraid of taking on the other coaches. I have a feeling she’ll be the winning coach this year with her talented team.
Plus she was throwing out all that valuable free advice to contestants during the blinds. On the spot coaching was great!
Chris put a spell on EVERYBODY! Best performance of the night! Hannah’s performance was weak as was Anthony’s because his gestures and facial expressions were off with the song choice. He gives Adam more to work with because of his range so I agree. Red is just country ddeliciousness and should be in the final. This year is lukewarm for me as Lucas was my favorite until he screwed up that song with unnecessary runs. I also like the gay ex NFLer.
Hannah, Noah, Brooke and STEPHAN are among the most viewed videos on You Tube. You can see all the views here,

I do not like Emily. She’s beautiful, she has a lovely voice. She’s technically great. But listening to her sing makes me sad and anxious. I have no idea why. I’m sort of afraid of her.
Totes agree about Emily! She makes me think of Aimee McPherson.
I don’t know who that is. I can’t explain why Emily gives me anxiety. The is something nonhuman about her…
Oh and Red is not pulling in a lot of Youtube views. This bad. At this point when the country guy with the weird name, Sunshine? Summertime? whatever his name was, he was on the top of the youtube list.
Sundance Head.
It would be such a treat to see Chris on that stage in drag singing Whatever Lola Wants!
Totes agree about Emily! She makes me think of Aimee McPherson.
Right now my money is on the American Indian woman, Brooke. She is a powerhouse. My second favorite is Moriah, the next GREAT ROCK N ROLL female singer.
…And before anyone corrects me about using the term American Indian, versus Native American, I come from Montana where we have over 9 resident tribes on 9 reservations. THEY call themselves Indian, or American Indian (think AIM – It stands for American Indian Movement. It’s not called NAM). I have asked many, many indians that I have worked with, and called friends for years about this. They claim (at least in Montana) that the term Native American was coined by white man and used by political indians as it was the “acceptable” term in politics.
I also worked with the Sioux Indians from South Dakota and the Pawnee Indians from Nebraska on fire crews for 10 years. They all called them selves indians.
