The Voice: Final Night of Battles

Just to add a bit from last night’s post.  They really saved some great ones.  Blake is the only one left with a steal at the end which added a tension for me, but loved all three performances.

Of course they save the last save for the third and final performance. This means that the first two performances are painful like the knockouts.

In the first battle, Adam Cunningham and Natalie Stovall, Team Blake battle for survival with no steal  available. Sadly, that means Natalie went home despite a great performance. Miley even said that if she had a steal, she would have used it.

In the second battle, Team Jennifer matched Eric Lyn and Ignatious Carmouche to sing Unaware, a song I didn’t recognize but it was very smooth. Kelly Rowland was a huge fan of Eric’s in rehearsals. Blake thought Ignatious went off the rails a bit. Jennifer was torn about who to send home and asked Blake to save her other team member, but Blake was holding out for the country round. Eric pulled out the win in the end.

I am kind of surprised that they don’t figure out a way to have the coaches wait to the end of all the battles to make their choices of whom to steal. Not as dramatic I guess.

Finally we get to the performance and artist I have been waiting for since the first week.  I haven’t been able to get Ashland Craft out of my mind!

Team Miley put Ashland Craft up against Meghan Rose singing Good Hearted woman. Meghan really stepped up her game and hung in with Ashland pretty well, but Ashland was a no brainer for Miley. Blake scooped up Meghan with his final save and the final save of the season.

It was so worth the wait.  The entire segment was goose bump city.  Waylon Jenning’s Good Hearted Woman as a song choice? YES PLEASE!  A story from Billy Ray about Miley at 8 years old dragging her guitar out when Waylon Jennings was over, asking him to teach her this very same song?  That is the kind of preview story I like.  The actual Battle was fantastic. Ashland has a take no prisoners quality to her performances, manages to have a sweetness to her voice along with some genuine grit.

But the BEST moment?  What might be the best moment ever on the show?  An impromptu jam session with the band, the two artists, AND the two Cyrus singers. Major goosebumps, and me wishing I could buy it on iTunes.

Next week, they smartly bring on next season’s new coach, Kelly Clarkson, as advisor. I think she’ll be fun to watch. FYI, They announced last week that the 4th and final coach for Season 14 will be Alicia Keys. Should be fun!

Yay, so glad Alicia Keys is back! I love her as a coach and a person! I also love how her and Blake get along.

I’m going to miss her and Miley together… but as both of them have active concert careers, etc. this makes sense. I don’t even know if Blake ever even names his specific tours. I think he just goes out when not on the Voice and has some of his Voice people open for him.

I could take or leave Gwen, but it would be nice if they now have a good rotation of women coaches. I have a feeling Kelly is going to be great, Alicia really has grown as a coach, I am loving JHud Production, and you all know that I’m all for Miley! (Although her Dad would be a good stand in)

I think Billy Ray has been fairly useless this season. Perhaps he is just trying not to overshadow Miley and let her do her thing, but mostly all he did was just stand there looking like he needed a good shampoo.

Was broken hearted to see Ignatious go. I thought he had a great shot at becoming a top notch Pop artist and I know Adam loved his falsetto.
