After twenty-two years of Fashion Police, the show is finally calling it quits. The show began in 1995 as a place for Joan Rivers to put all of her red carpet fashion critiques in one place. It was a good show in the 1990s when Joan held nothing back in her often vicious assessments of celebrities attending red carpet events. Eventually the format changed to a panel and that was the beginning of a slow steady decline.
When Joan died in 2014, Melissa Rivers tried to keep the show on the air, but there were constant issues with casting. The wheels started coming off the bus when Kathy Griffin quit over “creative differences” allegedly with Melissa. Then Kelly Osbourne quit because Giuliana Rancic made remarks about Zendaya’s dreadlocks.
The final panel was formed in 2015 when Melissa Rivers became co-host along with Giuliana Rancic, Brad Goreski, NeNe Leakes and Margaret Cho. This group had a lot of personality clashes as well and Margaret Cho seemed to disappear there at the end. Nene Leakes recently told someone from the stage of show she was hosting that she hoped they got raped on the way home by an Uber driver, which had to give producers pause.
So it was announced today they are just going to pull the plug. Adam Stotsky , President of E! provided the following statement, “Fashion Police has been a red carpet mainstay for over two decades that has been emulated across the entertainment landscape. Joan’s beloved no-holds-barred style fueled the franchise’s clever approach to fashion and comedy, and we are incredibly proud of its long-running success.”
A final episode of the show, Fashion Police: The Farewell will air Monday, November 27 on E!. The show will feature a never aired episode that Joan filmed that was a throw back to the 1980 where Joan covered the looks of Dynasty. It looks like Melissa will narrate the show and perhaps even give some insight to all the infighting among the panelists over the years. That might be interesting.
So do you think that Nene was the final straw in killing Fashion Police? It seemed to be on life support the last few years anyway, but with Margaret Sho quietly disappearing and Nene being a toxic cast member whose comments triggers lots of letters to the network to drop her I have a feeling it was just the final straw.
