Shahs of Sunset: The Thread That Broke the Shahs’ Backs

Tonight is the season finale, and I get a strange feeling that it might be Asa’s last season. She clearly has grown weary of suffering these fools gladly. I hope she gets herself out of the gutter and takes that baby and spends her time raising him and running her successful businesses. She’s the only one of this bunch that had the sense to set herself up with business plans to keep multiple revenue streams flowing after this show ends. There will be a season seven, though. So maybe the rest of these clowns need to plan for their future.

The episode starts off with Reza and GG meeting with Kevin Lee about the decor for the Winter Ball. And of course they gossip. This time Golnesa tells Reza that Jessica has emailed Mike’s mom trying to get back in her good graces and possibly back with Mike. I do not believe for one hot second that Jessica ever tried to get back with Mike. I think this is all made up crap. Pretty much all of Golnesa and Reza’s conversations are made up storyline this season.  Reza actually tells Golnesa to talk to Mike’s mom to convince her to let Mike take Jessica back. Why?

MJ and Tommy wear matching red flannel PJs to take Vida to see MJ’s dad in the hospital. Vida was actually well-behaved.

Apparently Reza needs to have some more time on a stage so we are going to suffer through this play that Reza wrote. When MJ was in high school, she took drama and Monica Lewinsky and Eric Menendez were in her class. The only people in the audience are the other cast members. And unfortunately, us.

I don’t understand why Adam ever married Reza. Reza is such a bitch who constantly belittles him. I can’t believe they are going to do the baby thing next season. Their storyline needs to be divorce.

I’m actually having to sit through the commercials. There really isn’t much to say about this episode.

Reza and Adam go to visit Asa who is on bed rest. Asa tells the guys that she just doesn’t want to be around the negativity anymore. She has been around this for six years and no seems to be maturing. Everyone still gets drunk and argues with each other and she has outgrown the situation. She’s about to be a mother and she is moving toward more mature things.  Of course what Reza hears is that Asa has everything she wants now and has need for them anymore. I suppose that is one way of looking at it, if you have the intellect and maturity of a twelve-year-old boy.

Kevin did an excellent job with the Winter Ball, it is so beautiful. You know what else is beautiful? MJ’s apartment that has been totally designed from top to bottom. I love the wall with all of the Arabic (Farsi) writing. At MJ’s place, Reza and Adam have one of those whisper fights couples have when they are in public or on camera at a time when they are not getting along. Reza is dismissive of Adam, while claiming that Adam is dismissive.  Adam is hurt that Reza threatens not to have a baby with him, or to divorce him during arguments. Adam is crying. In his talking head, Reza says he is sick and tired of Adam making him out to be the bad guy.

We finally get to the party and everyone is there, even Shalom. Golnesa is blinding everyone at the party with her right. There is fake snow falling out of the sky. Mike’s mom arrives and GG will be accosting her to tell her to accept Jessica. Things start off okay but then Mike gets his cue to enter the scene and break things up. Again, this is the most ridiculous script ever that someone must have insisted on to do damage control to Mike’s shattered reputation. It’s just making it worse. Jessica converted to Judaism, spenty hours and hours with Mike’s mother learning to cook Iranian food, and put up with Mike’s crap. During all of that time Mike was cheating on her with all sorts of people. What the hell does Jessica have to apologize for? It seems the mom is pissed that Jessica left Mike so easily.  Mike is pissed that Golnesa talked to his mom. Really pissed. Golnesa says it is all Reza’s fault that she talked to Mike’s mom. Apparently, Mike didn’t know about the email. Probably because it didn’t exist.

Reza is sweating like a whore in church at this event. When he went to visit Asa she said that she opened a window for him so he would not get all sweaty. Water is literally rolling off of him. Adam finally tells Reza that the callous way that Reza cancelled the wedding is something he has not gotten past and every time he talks about not having a baby with him, or says he might have married the wrong person, or talks about not wanting to be with him all of those hurtful feelings come up.

Reza actually gives him a decent apology.  The show ends with news of Golnesa’s marriage, and divorce. Or annulment as Reza called it. Only they are back together now. At least long enough for GG to wear the ring at the reunion…

This show has nothing to offer Asa, she would be smart to get out now and enjoy her baby. This cast is filled with horrible people. Not surprised Mike’s mom blames Jessica for the breakup. Sorry mom, but some women will not put up with a ho for a hubby, especially after changing her entire life to be “acceptable” for Mike and his parents. Adam should run screaming as far away from Reza as he can get. Do not bring a baby into an already horrible situation!

Vida makes for good tv but she is the family member you would avoid at all cost. Mj’s home looks fabulous. It has a rustic look with the wood details and it honors her Persian roots also.

I thought she was trying to get pregnant, what happen to that? Did she ever marry Slade? Is she still selling those plastic faux handbags???

Gretchen’s appearance was the death knell to this show . It can go no lower, especially with Slade there. There is no justifiable reason for her presence, or that scum bucket Slade’s, and it shows how desperate the producers were to have anyone attend.

Both the lack of attendance at the play, and their presence at the party -as well as that of every fifth cousin of anyone connected to the show, shows how lost, irrelevant and low the show is- it was pitiful. Please let these people out of their misery and cancel it- there is nothing left to say about this lost, silly, overindulged, immature team of five year olds.

I cringe when I see most of them- they struggle so much to find meaning and importance for themselves-by spending money, not using their brains and hearts. Reza talks about how much they have matured and grown- nonsense!!

To me, Asa was always out for herself at the expense of the others, so no loss there either, sorry, TT- that episode where she taped herself with the men of the faiths but went alone, and then showcased it as if she had created world peace or the start of it, but didn’t even let the others know what she was doing, let alone invite them- exhibits that.

Mike was so awful to Jessica. I think she tried her hardest and Mike is just too self-centered to be in a relationship. Mike’s mom is an ass if she really thinks Jessica leaving was the biggest crime in all this. How about if her son just kept his dool in check and only in his wife instead of pulling it out all over town?

Lots of people become fools when they are in love. I think everything Jessica did was because she was crazy about him. I think everything Mike did was because he’s crazy about HIMSELF. If we have to decide who is more at fault, it’s got to be Mike. He watched her go through the conversion process for him and every day could have broken it off, but he didn’t. I’m not giving him a pass just because he was too chickenshit to end it due to wanting to please his family and get more airtime on the show. He married her, she married him, she kept her vows and tried hard, by all accounts he chased tail like it was his job. So she left him, and now she can get on with the rest of her life.

The “flannel pj Christmas” choked me up. Vida calming Tommy in the car showed me a different side of her. For me, the tears started when they piled the chihuahuas on Sham’s bed. Trying to create a real Christmas was lovely.

Really wish I could talk to Adam about chickens. Best part of tonight: as Reza was asking about noises chickens make, my bantam rooster “Sparkle” let out a crow for the ages. It echoed.

Asa is one shady, shady tree. Anyone who does not see that needs to stop drinking the diamond water. Asa is a real mind f#**er. She lied about not seeing the fertility MD either before or just after MJ and did not come clean until the group dragged it out of her. Asa has a way of making her friends feel as though they have issues when asking her questions about her pregnancy, hell her life in general. It is really suspicious when a 40yo woman gets pregnant on the FIRST TRY. That is a rare occurrence especially since Asa did share that she and her Jackson boyfriend had already frozen ONLY MALE embryos but she says she did not have any of these eggs implanted, her pregnancy was “au natural”. I have always wondered why only male embryos ? I am sure the fertility clinic could have fertilized some of her eggs with female sperm (yes there is a difference between male and female sperm this is how the sex of the infant is determined). Asa and Mr. Jackson had to instruct the clinic to only fertilize her eggs with male sperm, why??? This from a woman who puts herself out as a champion of women and women’s issues I get it, in her culture the ding-a-ling is everything, males are prized so having a boy is like and E ticket at Disneyworld a girl would not have been a really big deal. Asa is not the shy, kind, innocent woman she wants people to see. Asa is one conniving, woman with reality issues. Asa thinks she can now look down her nose at the other cast members because she has a child, well, look down your nose Asa and what you are going to see is an empty room, no friends, no support, nothing. If you want your life with a Jackson then living in isolation behind gates and locks is your future but OK, if that is what you want I wish you well. Everyone else, lets PARTY!!!!!

I agree. The issue with Asa is that she is pretentious. She is either giving unsolicited advice to her friends or lecturing them or giving advice at inopportune times to give the illusion she is “wise beyond her years”. And most of the time, the lectures/advice do not come from a “real” place of suffering. Yes, she was a refugee but she still had life relatively easy compared to other refugees. She was always cared for by two parents and her parents always provided amenities and comforts for her. There are refugees who fared so much worse – so Asa needs to stop peddling the “refugee” card at every chance. I digress – when MJ tried explaining her sh***y behavior to MJ (Season 5) after the dodgeball game and sincerely tried to apologize, instead of accepting it, Asa begins to lecture her. Asa was as wrong as MJ and she couldn’t admit her faults. She always points out other people’s mistakes. Another example – Season 2 – she was wrong to tell GG’s then boyfriend, you have a loud, annoying laugh and you have a large nose over and over and over and over and over again. Her intentions weren’t hurtful but they came off as such. She had to apologize or at least explain why she said what she said and explain she meant no harm. It was disrespectful and GG lost her cool because Asa was dismissive about the issue – which is cowardice.

Asa you are so many times in the wrong.

Now, the “innocent” baby is not that innocent as Julie put it. Asa and Jermaine PLANNED to have a male child – hardly natural. This is eugenics at its worst! Pre-planning what kind of child you will have is – for religious zealots – an abomination. And no, I’m not insulting her child but the situation in and of itself represents an abomination in the making. She is only having a male child because as the other writer wrote – there is more money and fame to be had with a male Jackson child.

Asa never should have joined this crew of people. It doesn’t take 6 years to figure out they are immature or adult children. Asa is a loner by choice and there is nothing wrong with that – but why be on the show?! Except to show how much more mature she is – that is ARROGANT.

Asa just needs to either live privately or have friends with whom you are comfortable to share your life with. I know she divorced her first husband, they were caught dealing drugs, and that’s where the bulk of her money comes from to fund her art projects. And we’ve all made mistakes in our past but Asa – stop acting like you don’t have flaws or you don’t deserve a lecture every now and then or you don’t make mistakes because you do. Jermaine has no interest in her but keeps her around because she cooks for him and offers occasional companionship. But he’s not serious about her as evidenced by the fact that they don’t even live together as boyfriend and girlfriend or engaged to be married-type couple.

Asa just admit that you may not be the girl that most guys go for. So you cling to Jermaine?! But Jermaine “ain’t feeling you”?! Why even have his baby? The Jacksons are not going to support you but they will support the baby. She has issues like the rest – Asa just likes to pretend everything is “alright” but she will ultimately end up alone and without support…unfortunately.

Dealing drugs? That’s a serious accusation. Even MJ only tried to throw her under the bus by saying she supposedly got cheating on her man. As someone with a criminal record herself, why would MJ not have brought that up? It seems to me that she was willing to say anything that she could spew out to make Asa look bad to anyone who would listen. Additionally, your assets get seized when caught dealing drugs, so I am very curious from where this information came. I’ve always been a little torn on Asa. Sometimes I love her and sometimes I think that she is full of it, but I always find her interesting to watch. Plus, whether she is truly authentic or not, I believe that her intentions to put out positivity out have been genuine, and she has always shown it through her reactions to the craziness thrust upon her by this group i.e. GG & MJ have been downright evil to her and she handled the situations with more understanding and patience than anyone that I know. So she dismissed MJ’s,”oh whoa is me my dad is dying,” in Israel. Big whoop. She, and everybody else who was watching, knew that was typical MJ M.O., just another desperate cry (oops – pun!) for attention just like her outrageously inappropriate outfits, always a size or two too small. Yes Asa is kooky, and self-important, and thinks that meditating on diamonds that “speak” to her somehow makes said water special, but she appears to be the most genuine of the bunch – and certainly the most interesting. I like Mike the very least and find him to be the biggest fake of all – such a cocky mo fo loser. (His baby moccasins already exist with an established brand, btw – don’t reap all the name but I was wondering if they mat sue..) oh, and for HIM to say ANY thing to ANY one about not being truthful with his “friends”?!?!?!! F U, Mike. No one lies more than he. I do always look forward to this show and am sad that it is over already. I hate the reunions because the cracks in the facade of these friendships come out in some unexpectedly brutal ways, but you bet your sweet ass I’ll be watching and rewinding to re-watch those juicy parts.

If Jermaine is not that into her, why would he go through the whole process of seeing a fertility doctor with her and freezing embryos and then having a baby? That just doesn’t seem like something you do with s woman you’re just stringing along. As for not living together or being engaged, they both seem to be happy with their current, long term situation and relationship. Not everyone needs the same things from their partner.

I agree that its strange that they only froze male embryos. Maybe there is a scientific reason for that? Maybe it was a coincidence? Maybe they intend to have a girl next time? I feel uncomfortable with calling any baby an abomination though.

I think I might like to send her your comments here where you repeatedly claim she was selling drugs with her “ex husband.” The implication being she was some sort of a drug dealer. They were actually selling natural supplements. One of the supplements contained ephedra an ingredient that was pulled off the market by the FDA.

This show is simply pure trash. The Shahs all purport to be ‘great’ friends yet slit each others throats at the first opportunity, and are beyond vicious – some friends. Reza is the worst and at 44 I would think that he’d have cleaned up his vocabulary a long time ago. His ‘bitches’ and ‘shoot my wad’ conversations are crass, crude and repulsive, not to mention totally unnecessary. After six seasons, I believe all of us have totally forgotten what this show was to be originally about – it’s vulgar and offensive. Do any of them have real jobs? Are Reza and MJ still working for a legitimate realtor? I doubt it what with their trashy, immature, skeevy behavior. MJ needs serious, serious counseling and Tommy best run for the hills. Bravo doesn’t know when to throw in the towel – for this show, it was a long time ago. Dump it – it’s truly over.

Perhaps she should have been training Mike just as much on how to be a good husband who keeps his kick in his pants. It seems like she was implying that Mike’s behavior was just something Jessica should have just put up with.

Even more appalling is GG claiming that Mike and Jessica were still seeing each other.

I think the email if there was one, was Jessica thanking Mike’s mom for all of her religious and culinary guidance.

Jeeze louise. I think the mother is forgetting Jess didn’t “pack her bags at the first sign of trouble”, everyone was telling her mike was lowdown and cheating and she believed him, carried on, stayed, etc. She ignored a shit ton of red flags and finally left when she caught him and he copped to it. Maybe the mother is unaware of exactly how much jess let slide before leaving?

I think you should stick by your spouse by many things, but you are definitely not obligated to do so if they break their most basic vow of fidelity. I get the mom being hurt, but she should be more hurt that her son thought so little of his marriage as to ruin it before it even started.

        Sad all around.

LMAO @ culinary guidance, I would’ve loved to learn to make persian food like that from someone, jess did have it good that way 🙂

Can anyone explain the episode title to me? What was the thread?

I think it was when Reza and Adam’s cat jumped on the blanket and pulled a thread. It is what started the horrid fight between them. That’s what Adam said, it was just a thread.

Oh I must have missed that, I tend to zone out at the sight of cats all over furniture. Thanks.

Should. have been a straw according to the cliche. The cocktail straw that broke the Shahs’ backs. Happy hour is over time to sip the diamond water and smell the roses, preferably in a kaftan.

I think Asa will probably bow out after this season and spend time with her man and her baby.

What other cast members do you think need to go? While all of them have some really negative qualities, I can’t really see getting rid of any of them. Not even Reza. What would you do?

I’d cancel the show. It’s run its course. Only cast member who was likeable was Asa.
MJ – sloppy (I too am a big girl but I know how to dress for my body type). That relationship with loudmouth is a sham.
Mike – an immature little boy
GG – annoying, immature. Fix your issues, girl.
Reza – unhappy, shouldn’t have gotten married, immature and rude
Shervin – get a grip and fix your life. You can’t screw all of LA.

      Get this show outta here.

No kidding, would cancel the show. What kind of ratings do they get, I do not know, I am sorry to say-
who is the audience for this?

In its first season, I thought it would be fascinating to learn about these people, how they function in America, their connections and feelings about home, etc., . It has morphed into the worst 90210 spoiled Graduates who are without maturity, or anything else, besides too much money.

      Sabrina,
I agree with your sentiment but instead of cancelling the show I wish they would take a chance and recast this show and this time focus more on the cultural aspect. I would love to see Persians that are actual refugees that still travel to Iran (if they’re allowed by their old country) and keep in touch with their family still living there. I liked when all of the Bravo shows , including Housewives shows, used to show the cast working at their legit day jobs and companies(not the fake ones Mike conjures up every season for a storyline) and see them interacting in real relationships.

I’m done with the sloppy hateful MJ types that are too much even for reality tv standards and the Asa types that are too private for reality tv. I may be in the minority who actually liked Lily when she was on this show and would prefer a show with her and her friends. I mean if Bravo wants to keep with the rich and spoiled Persian theme at least she checked all the boxes but in a good way. She showed the viewers the ins and outs of her business and shared her relationship but she didn’t have to be so desperate because unlike this crew, the show was not her main or only source of her large income.

I don’t think I’ll get my wish so I may have to stop watching this show like I have so many of the Housewives. ..*sigh

And I agree with your first paragraph completely ! I would love to see the show I thought this was going to be, as you mentioned. That would be fascinating.

If someone is an actual refugee, they are never safe returning to their home.
