Below Deck: 100 Feet From Catastrophe

October 10, 2017 by tamaratattles 26 Comments

I am excited about this episode because I feel like someone is getting a ticket home. There are so many options. I really can’t deal with EJ. He looks like he is made of plastic and I don’t see any signs that he is any more skilled, or maybe as skilled as Nico. Chris Brown shoulda done been gone. Jen is certainly replaceable. Then again, my true love, Nico tries to take out the Maltese Falcon with a tender tonight. So that makes me kind of nervous.  So there is no telling what will happen tonight!

We are back with the charter guests who do not drink alcohol. I do not begin to understand this situation. Also there is the “trained chef” who is critiquing the hell out of Matt who is in some sort of alcoholic self-shaming meltdown. So there is no joy in Mudville tonight. Jen continues to perfect her whining skills. Yet she doesn’t seem to know how to run a washing machine. It’s a foam party in the laundry room. EJ is just annoying AF.

I am not sure Below Deck has ever filmed in St. Barths during high season. All the rich and famous folks are there. And that is why we get to see the Maltese Falcon.

Matt has promised the guest lobsters but he didn’t have any lobsters. This is storyline. Totally. The guests made a huge point out of giving a specific time for lunch. They literally start bitching five minutes after their designated time. But when they got the lobsters, the guests loved them. The final dinner was exceptional. Go Matt!

Nico says, “Dealing with EJ is just like dealing with syphilis. You, like, just don’t want to deal with it, but you have to.” So Nico knows what dealing with syphilis is like?

While the guests are enjoying Casino night, Captain Lee gets feedback from EJ and Nico.  EJ trashes Bruno. This is bad. Captain Lee caught Bruno with his shirt off on charter and is already pissed at him. Please, Captain Lee, do not send my Bruno home!  Chris Brown has hung a hammock in the bilge, which is his new home.

Valor is moving away from the Maltese Falcon because they are way too close, so they have to reset the anchor. I’m kind of confused about what happened but it looks like Nico unhooked the tender without having the keys. I think Nico and EJ are both on Jetskis. Captain Lee could not be more furious. Hell, the whole deck crew could go home!

At the tip meeting, Captain Lee wastes no time letting the crew know he is not happy. He also says EJ is going to be hanging out for the foreseeable future. Well fuck. Bruno appears to be toast. The guests left a tip of almost $22k for a two-day cruise. I am gobsmacked by this concept. Captain Lee doesn’t fire anyone at the meeting. But he calls all of the crew in for a meeting. Eventually, Captain Lee sends Chris Brown home. He’s not angry with him, he says he just isn’t experienced enough to stay.  He puts Chris in a hotel room on St. Barths with all his cash. I’ve never seen Captain Lee give a fired crew member a hotel room. I’ve also never seen a stew ask another stew to do all of their work for them like Jen just asked of Brianna.

Nico and EJ continue to butt heads. Will there be another ticket home?

EJ is obnoxious on shore. So is Jen. She definitely needs to get laid. Matt has decided he need to get back with his ex. Everyone has had enough of Jen. Brianna tells Jen she is bitter all of the time. Jen gets heated and Kate and Nico both tell Jen and Brianna they need to take it down a notch. Everyone is in a really bad mood at the bar. Brianna and Nico get more drinks and then dance together a little to close for mere co-workers. While I get the onus is entirely on Nico to be faithful in his relationship, I do think Brianna just loves torturing him.

Meanwhile, a drunk EJ, is unable to secure the tender, which leads to an argument between Nico and EJ. And it seems like it could come to blows. So that is our cliffhanger this week.

Next week, it looks like Nico and Brianna have a hot beach date.  Nico threatens to quit if he is not bosun.

Great recap! Would you happen to know why the tender had to be untethered in order to reset the anchor. Only reason I can think of is because it’s the law/rules but in this case it seems as if it would’ve been prudent to skedaddle!

I don’t think the Valor ever tows the tender. When they leave the dock it is always cut loose. Don’t know if it is the rule or just how Cap. Lee does things.

Yes, tenders must be towed, or somehow hooked to the yacht.

All water craft with the Valour is able to be stored onboard. Valour was going to be moved a couple of hundred yards to gain a more secure anchorage further away from the Maltese. No reason to pull the tenders and jet skis up for such a short move. Capt. Lee wanted all the watercrafts pulled away from the boat during the move, to keep ropes outta the prop and from banging against the hull. You never, ever untie a boat until you have started the motor and put it into idle. The current can whisk you off pretty quickly. Nico should have the level of experience to know better.

Bruno can’t take his shirt off, but Connie was topless all the time and Captain Lee hired her to continue on.

Connie didn’t do that on charter, what Bruno did was on charter

Jen is pathetic and not cut out for this. Maybe if she wasn’t so slow and didn’t take all that time with her hair she would have more free time. Kate can be a real bitch but she rolls out of bed and goes and throws her hair up and it always looks decent. A high pony or a messy low side bun isn’t hard to achieve in a few short minutes, much less time than curling and spray and refueling and. More spraying. E.J. Annoys the fuck out of me and I want his ass tied to the anchor for the next drop, he is of no use to anyone, except maybe to screw jen.

Nico with the keys again. Big screw up letting the tender go and not starting it first. Nico was aboard and just drifting towards the Maltese Falcon. He needs to worry about his own job instead of trying to catch EJ making a mistake. He also should of been fired tonight because he’s arrogant and possible sabotager.

    I want lobster!

I had to google the Maltese Falcon Yacht, it is something else. Nico is cute but he is becoming way too elitist for Dudly Do Right (oh sorry, EJ) . cool beans!

I really wish you’d go back to using https. I don’t know what the problem with that is, monetary or hosting or whatever, but I’ve got that screaming red screen for the last time. It’s disconcerting. Peace and success be with you..

It is definitely on Nico to be faithful to his girlfriend; however, it is very obvious that Brianna is making the moves on him no matter how subtle (passive aggressive) she tries to be about it.

Sorry to disagree with the Nico fans, but, to me, he is a petulant, entitled, arrogant kid. Yes, he has skills but not the professional demeanor or ability to demand perfection from a crew. I know he was upset when EJ came on board, but he should have hidden it. What was done was done, and if Captain Lee wanted him as bosun, he would have promoted him, not hired a new one. EJ is a bit plastic, but seems to know his stuff and is much more willing to get in there and get his hands dirty than Nico ever was. Jen is irritating and bitter – then she complains because she doesn’t get laid! If I were captain, I would ban any romantic behavior at all between crew members while they are on the yacht, It only ever leads to hard feelings. Whatever they want to do after they dock, is up to them, but not on board ship. I liked the way Captain Lee let Chris go – no nastiness, just an acknowledgment that Chris was out of his element, and even a hotel for the night. Class act.

I agree. I feel bad for Nicos loss but he did the same crap to Kelly last season and also to Kate. He needs to go he’s undermining the whole Deck crew. I like Kate this season I think she genuinely enjoys Jen just being a goofball. I really don’t think she’s being shady at all. Let me amend that she’s being a little bit shady otherwise she wouldn’t be Kate

I’m not an EJ fan at all, but Nico proves more every minute that Captain Lee was right in not promoting him to bosun. He’s a spoiled brat who doesn’t care at all about the team or achieving the operational goals of the charter company. Gross insubordination calls for immediate termination, and he needs to go.

I had seen someone’s comment on the last episode about how Bri was as covered up as one could be for her beach date with Matt and that seems to reflect her level of interest… fast forward to the preview of her beach date with Nico and that itty bitty bikini! 😀

So I happened to catch one of the episodes from last season when Nico was constantly whining and complaining about Kelly and his management style. I thought I liked him, but, after watching that episode and how he is acting now, I really dislike him even though I would probably have throat punched CJ the second time he said “Cool Beans”.

I like Jen, although they should just put her in a bikini and tell her to shut up. Bri and Nico are definitely going in the same direction as old Eddie did a few seasons ago…
