I am really burning out on Bravo TV. I need some sort of entertaining escape from all the unrest in the world today. Watching bitches fight just doesn’t do it for me. I continue to recap because that’s my job. But I am most excited about the fall season of scripted shows.
Here are a few I’ll be watching, or at least giving a chance this week.
Monday
8:00 The Voice NBC RECAPPED BY ERICA
If you have never watched The Voice this is the season to start. Why? Jennifer Hudson. She is going to outshine the other three attention whores this season and it’s going to be glorious. I like to let this show run in the background while working. As usual Erica will be recapping and I will be telling Erica how wrong she is in the comments. I will also be sending her terse emails about proper use of vertical space, avoid the use of ellipses, and using fewer words!!!
8:30 Young Sheldon CBS
CBS is really selling this spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, is about Sheldon as a very young child in high school. I do not watch The Big Bang Theory but the commercials for this boy genius comedy have me recording this for a twenty-minute Saturday afternoon laugh. We’ll see.
10:00 The Good Doctor ABC
All I need to know is that it is from the people who gave me House, one of my favorite shows of all time. It looks like a cross between House and Doogie Howser, MD with a side of Asperger’s.
Tuesday
9:00 Bull CBS
This is a show based loosely on Dr. Phil’s jury selection and management company that he ran before becoming a TV therapist. It’s kind of a crime show but often times you already know who did it. The show is about the jury and how they are manipulated toward the verdict Bull wants. Hearing what the jury is thinking is kind of weird at first. I like the first season. It’s good but not great.
9:00 This Is Us NBC RECAPPED BY PARKER
By far the best new series last season. Parker will be back to recap and/or provide discussion topics for us each week. There will be crying.
Wednesday
8:00 The Blacklist on NBC
I may be over this show. I wasn’t able to DVR it for the full season last year so I am behind on the storyline. I like it though.
8:00 Empire on Fox
I may be over this too. I want to finish it out though and hope this is the last season. May have a recapper in mind.

9:00 Star on Fox
Super excited for this show to return. Love it. So proud of Miss Laurence. It’s still fresh. I might recap this.
10:00 The Good Place NBC
I almost missed this show last season and had to get caught up with On Demand. It’s a very smart, comedy and I LOVE THIS SHOW. It apparently premiered last Wednesday, I am off to watch the premiere as soon as I finish this. This show does not get the attention it deserves.
Thursday
8:00 Grey’s Anatomy 2 hour premiere CBS
Because I can’t quit this show.
9:00 Will & Grace NBC
Used to love it, not sure if I can love it again. I have a thing about half hour shows. Will watch on Saturdays.
10:00 How To Get Away With Murder CBS
Much like Scandal, which premieres NEXT Thursday at 9, there are too many killers on this show. I liked it better when there was a case every week and the student’s lives were background. Now we have everyone either dead or killing people in between classes. Not sure if I will hang with this or not. I will probably recap this or perhaps just do a Shondaland discussion night on Thursdays, are you interested in that?
Friday
8:00 Hell’s Kitchen Fox
I love this show. I think this might be an All Stars season. Perfect Friday night show.
10:00 Blue Bloods
I don’t know why I stopped watching this. Maybe I will start back?
I pare down my fall shows as soon as Hallmark and Lifetime start running their Christmas movies. I love Christmas movies and will watch all of them that I can. Hallmark has 33 NEW ones this season!
Watching the scripted shows on Bravo – Odd Mom Out, and GG to Divorce. The latter wilted a bit after the first season, but this season it’s picked up. Got sucked into This is Us and hate myself for it, but will be here boo hooing with the rest of you. Will give W&G a gander with fingers crossed.
Not watching any Housewives lately, but reading your recaps. That tells me all I need to know about these women. Here’s hoping that franchise chokes on its own cockamamie story lines and rides off into the land of late-night syndication.
What happened to the scripted show, Unreal? Is that still on? If so, I hope you recap that, TT.
Yass’s to UnReal. It was the best scripted show about behind the scenes “reality show producing”. It had wicked storylines. Truly miss it and hope it comes back for another riveting season.
I second Odd Mom Out! It’s really quirky and every now and then over the top. The first season I wasn’t quite sure about it, but the second put me firmly in the fan category!
I love GG to Divorce / Bossing it Up and have watched every season. I think the actors are talented, the writers did an awesome job creating flawed but likable characters, and the wardrobe is making me jelly!!
Yay, Hell’s Kitchen. I got so burned out on Masterchef, I don’t know how or why. I think just the predictability after watching so many seasons.
I am ready for Hell’s Kitchen for sure. A few shows, i just stopped watching, after faithfully for years. It was as if a switch went off and I had zero desire to watch. Actually happened with Dr.Phil no less. Suddenly, without specific reason, done and over with. Guess means time to find something else. Which is the problem, I get bored easily with predictable shows. Need a new genre created, lol.
Honestly, Starvis the only thing I care about. The Bravo shows are like TBS was in the old days, we just turn it on and leave it. Whatever’s on, we watch, and if we miss something it’ll be on ten times within the week.
I’m watching more YouTube and started my own channel (MamaBethsWorld in case anyone wants to watch) and Netflix and Hulu.
It’s just easier.
Oh please, keep recapping Blacklist, HTGAWM, Scandal, and Empire. I try to watch all of them! Also, I hope Lady Coquette continues covering The Walking Dead when it returns on October 22. She loves that show, so do I, and her recaps are fantastic reads!
Looking forward to these shows to return. Bravo and its screaming banshees are wearing on my nerves.
I’ll definitely be back for the Walking Dead! I’m counting down the Sundays (4).
I’m waiting for Good Behavior season 2 to start in October.
The Good Place was far and away my favorite new show last year. I also enjoy several others that you mentioned, including Bull and Blue Bloods.
I’m curious to see if Will and Grace will hold up for a second go-round. If I like it, it will have to be DVR’d while Project Runway is still on.
I didn’t get into This Is Us last year because I didn’t need a big emotional upheaval every week. I’m not planning to watch this season for the same reason.
Rebecca I found The Good Place last weekend and watched the entire season in one day. Very quirky but clever writing. It will be interesting to see what direction it goes this new season!
Looking so forward to This is Us and I’m guessing there’s no AHS recap? Ready for regular tv! Did anyone see Oprah on 60 Minutes last night? Disappointed in my girl Oprah!
That’s why I stopped watching Bravo. I got tired of all the fighting. But like you, sometimes I need a television escape too
I really enjoyed two series on Netflix, The OA which was really unique, Stranger Things, which had a great ’70’s vibe. “Goliath” with Billy Bob Thornton -a David E. Kelly show on Amazon and Better Call Saul!!
I need a few good engrossing dramas for distraction this fall. Any recommendations?
Absolutely loved GOLIATH.
Def going to watch This Is Us, AHS, Still love Modern Family (though I think it’s run it’s course), I am fascinated with Scientology show, love my Netflix and Hulu. I am very tired of Bravo. Still love Flipping Out, MDLNY and Below Deck but I see a time when they too will grow old if this current trend keeps up. (NOT MDLNY)
I just wanted to say thank you for your recaps. They are the first thing I read in the morning and check almost obsessively throughout the day. Not long ago I could not have imagined missing a Real Housewives show, but now find them for the most part to be boring and repetitive. I long for the original days of the Real Housewives of Orange County. Over listening to a bunch of Middle Aged woman arguing about the same stuff. Again, thank you for the recaps!
Have been watching Netflix and Acorn (British) tv. “The Good Karma Hospital” has us hooked. Other UK stuff for me to guffaw at
“The Inbetweeners” and “White Gold”. Sophomorish, dirty, uncouth. Yeah baby!
“Ozark “to see how badly they portray my beloved Lake of the Ozarks (it’s a drama with a lot of bad people)
I will look at the scripted shows listed-thanks!
Except for Young Sheldon. Husband is a Shelton. Do not need more.
On Netflix Season 3 of Narcos was outstanding!
They did it on the Cali Cartel…wow….what a bunch of vicious people. It was interesting seeing how they controlled the whole country during their time. There were some great performances as well.
I was looking forward to this fall’s season of The Voice because of the judge line up, but after tonight’s premiere episode, I’m REALLY excited. some great moments/performances already.
Will work on the brevity… but I love an ellipsis!
FYI, it is going to be harder to recap because I am sans DVR this week (and I got a slight case of food poisoning today)
Oh, I am a Big Bang Theory ADDICT. I went on my first cruise this summer. Because BBT is my go to show when I need to unwind to go to sleep, I ended up buying the first season and downloading it to my tablet! I didn’t have to use it on the cruise, but I have since then.
I’m looking forward to Young Sheldon. It was Jim Parson’s idea (he plays Sheldon on BBT). Honestly, I think they’ve been respectful of his “being on the spectrum”. They won’t reveal if he’s had a diagnosis, and what that diagnosis could be. The writers/creators have said they have too many people coming up to them and saying thank you, because their kid/sibling/parent/familymember/themselves are ____, and they see themselves in Sheldon – and love that he has a life with friends, interests, and even a girlfriend.
I actually watched Sheldon last night out of curiosity…but was ticked it’s now not coming back until NOVEMBER!
NO IMPOSTERS????? WTF????
I’m with you Skeeter! T, do you have any tea about what’s going on with Imposters?
I was late to the BBT craze and now LOVE it! So looking forward to Young Sheldon. I still love House. I have Lupus and get the biggest kick out of how many episodes House throws out “it’s Lupus”. So I have the DVR set up for The Good Doctor. I really liked Imposters but don’t see what they would do with a second season because it became ridiculous to me when Maddie’s victims caught up with her. The RH franchise I still try to keep current on is NY. NY for Bethenny cause the woman has hussle and I love it and Luann because the woman is a Phoenix and I love seeing how no matter what anyone does to knock her down she rises better than ever and can laugh at herself.
Jennifer Hudson was way too over the top and needy of attention for me on the Voice.
Young Sheldon was very good. Plus, if you are a Scandal fan, you will enjoy knowing that Young Sheldon’s mom was a villain on Scandal last year. She is also the real life daughter of Jeff Perry (Cyrus Beene) and Laurie Metcalf who plays grown Sheldon’s mom on Big Bang Theory. When she was on Scandal last year, I kept thinking, “I know that voice!” so, I looked up the actress and saw who mom and dad are. She sure sounds like her mom!
Oh wow! While I was watching her I was thinking how great she was as a young Sheldon’s mom. She even sounded like her. Now I know why. Very cool.
My new obsession is Outlander. I kept seeing the promos for season three on Bravo, etc. so I decided to “watch just one” episode…well, ended up binging the first two seasons. I know it is a book series and maybe one day I will get around to reading them.
As for Will and Grace, I adored the original version so I will try it. I just hope it does not turn into a 23 minute political ad every week.
I have The Good Doctor on DVD to watch tonight.
Since the world did not end on Saturday like it was supposed to, I have to finish decluttering and it is cutting into my mindless tv time!
Stopped watching the Housewives a couple seasons ago. It all got too much. I am still watching Below Deck, so happy to read your write ups on that. Have been a BB fan forever, so love to keep up with your thoughts on that too! Glad your checking out some other stuff, we are too this season- should be refreshing.
I have things to say on your comments but I need to talk about Meghan Kelly first. She had a summer nighttime run of a news program that I thought was very good. Then she was given the 9 am hour of the Today Show. I have stopped watching GMA or Today mostly because of my odd sleep schedule. Sometimes I am still awake when the morning shows start. I have essentially given up on sleeping during normal hours and now sleep the hours of a teenaged boy in California.
So her morning show started this week and it sucks. We were not properly informed. It’s not a news based show at all. It’s a talk show. A very, very, very crappy talk show. Has anyone else watched this shit show? How can it be so very, very, bad?
My sleep cycle SUCKS the big one too! I will not be watching Meghan Kelly.
TT, I saw it on the guide and thought it was a mistake. Genre is news.
Checked On Demand, and it’s listed under NBC News Today show.
Today’s show is already on demand.
This is embarrassing for Meghan Kelly to say the least.
I first started watching her when we were waiting on our house and I didn’t have Bravo. On Fox. Really liked her show.
This is quite embarrassing and dreadful. As in WTF a baseball player fell into a guys nachos????
I’m out. It’s painful.
I loved, loved, loved “House”. I didn’t watch “The Good Doctor” because it reminded me of Doogie Houser meets Sheldon from “Big Bang Theory”. However, I now plan to watch the first few episodes n hope that my judgement may be wrong.
I like “Bull” …mostly because I am a big ” NCIS” fan . Like you, Tamara, I have had my “nickle’s worth” of Bravo’s scripted/unscripted shows. I am excited at the prospect of watching new/different shows with your special viewpoint to make them even more fun. For me, reading your critiques makes the experience as if I am watching with a funny, intelligent friend!!!
I just want to point out that as much as I WANT TO MOVE YOU GUYS TO SOME SCRIPTED SHOWS, scripted shows are a lot harder to recap than reality shows. EXCEPT FOR REUNIONS. THEY ARE THE WORST.
My dear friend UF who I miss every day, would spend hours upon hours perfecting his AHS posts. I only watched Coven myself, but his “recaps” were often 3,000 plus words on a single episode discussing every nuance. They are works of art you should check out. I apologize for not having an AHS discussion thread here anymore. I decided it would be just too painful for me.
The reason for bringing it up is because my scripted show recappers are extremely into their shows and it takes a lot of their time. So please make a point to let them know that someone is reading their work if you enjoy the same show.
I say this as I have been sitting here with Star on pause for so long because all sorts of reality tea came my way today. I hope to get to it tomorrow. But please understand that each day as I am quickly trying to get information to you, typos and weird word substitutions and all. I am talking to sources, trying to keep my dog alive, even though he is depressed that I ignore him all the time, and by this time of night several glasses of wine in.
So please be kind to anyone who is kind enough to write for me.
xo

PS Nothing will get you banned faster than “YOU FORGOT THE BEST PART!”
Imagine if you were a window cleaner who had just cleaned the windows of a giant office building in record time and some idiot waddled up and pointed to a tiny area and said, “You missed a spot!” Do you want to be that person?
/insert window licker photo I can’t imbed here.
