Aric Harding, a father of seven, has been helping his neighbors and strangers for days. He went back to the house to get some of the kids comfort items, teddy bears and a few games. One of his boys was worried about the piano. So he sat down and played to show him it still works.
It I have to get emotional y’all do to.
Heartbreaking.

Thank you for sharing.
His faith is inspiring, and a good reminder to us all.
This is going to affect the entire nation before it’s all over with, most people just don’t realize it yet. I live in Northeast Texas, about 200 mi. from Houston, and our town is already almost filled to capacity. Gas stations began closing today, if you’re out of gas, you will be stuck here. Hotel rooms paid for by FEMA are full, churches, the Salvation Army, too. I work in a certain store known for being happy and healthy. We have been overrun with people trying to get money through Western Union, because they evacuated before the storm, and assumed they would need clothes for only a few days. Now they know it will be awhile before they can even go home, and what will they have when they get there? Everything they had is already gone. Most people are just trying to reach their relatives and find out their condition. They find more dead every day. It is sad and a horrible situation. It usually takes months for any insurance or government benefits to begin, and local resources will stretch only so far. It’s so scary to even be this close to it, I cannot imagine having to go through the storm, and then to be displaced…I hope everyone can find it in their hearts to give whatever they can to help their fellow humans, cause they need shelter, food, clothing, medicine, some will have no jobs to go back to, and a huge amount will understandably want to relocate and just start over. I’m praying every day that this situation improves, and I know it will, it’s just really bleak at the moment. Please pray for us all.
Thanks for the update. It’s just very sad. And even worse, Irma or whatever the next one is called is even bigger.
I’m in. Amen.
Thank you Tamara for posting this. Each morning I am hesitant to check my e-mail or twitterfeed – for the updates on Hurricane Harvey.
I am able to sleep in my own bed, within my own 4 walls and not wonder “will my home be there in the morning?”
already donated, but still feel as if I haven’t done enough, being in Canada, the most i can do is donate. Watching pets and family members being rescued by my american friends who are recruited.
The most i can say is Houstan and Lousianna are in our prayers.
It’s seriously heartbreaking. I admittedly avoid most of it because it brings my experience with Sandy back. It’s a lot of hopelessness and feeling isolated and scared (and cold since it snowed a week later) and I feel for those who are dealing with figuring out their losses.
Here, every morning, first thing we say to each other (hubs and I) is I ask “hows the world?” It’s been our question for updates on the victims of the hurricane. He fills me in and we always mention (just naturally), how nothing happening in our day, is not that bad, and how lucky we are. We no longer complain about excessive heat, etc.
We donate and it’s great a lot of places are matching donations. I really wish I could be on the ground helping, but can’t. It’s truly amazing the stories of how great people are when they need to be. I constantly am sending thoughts and prayers and hope that victims know how much we care. Gonna repeat each day in hopes somehow it helps.
Why wait until Sunday? Carpe Diem.
Dear Mr. President,
We the people, red and blue blooded Americans, have being praying every day.
I’m in SE Virginia and getting incredible rain and T-storms from Harvey. Just amazing the amount of rain in these hurricanes. My thoughts and prayers are with Houston and Beaumont areas and every area hit. I donated but also to the humane society too. That doggie hanging onto the guardrail broke my heart.
Long time lurker, first time poster from Katy, Tx. I am one of the lucky ones in the Katy area (west Houston suburb badly flooded) that had no damage from the hurricane or its aftermath. I have a house full of family that are waiting to find out the status of their house and have many friends who have unfortunately lost everything for the 2nd or 3rd time. The outpouring of love and support from our community, our State, our Nation and other countries is amazing! As a lifelong Texan it does not surprise me. We are a rare breed of people who do not wait to be told what to do…we just jump in and do it. I spent some time this week volunteering with the animal rescue and at one of the shelters near my home but with so many volunteers I felt the best I could do was go shopping…for pet supplies, new underwear, socks, t-shirts, feminine products, cleaning supplies, etc. I am lucky. I have my family here and we are safe. I still have a job and my company is paying me without having to use vacation or personal time. Others are not so fortunate. They have no home to go back to and in some cases their jobs are gone because their businesses are under water. Please continue to pray for my community (all of the areas affected are my community including Louisiana) and if you can donate to a local charity so that all the money will go directly to the victims of this devastating storm. Thank you!
Sally, so happy to hear that you are one of the fortunate ones in Katy. As soon as you said where you were from I braced myself for the details. It great that you are volunteering. I didn’t get the feeling that people could actually shop around there yet. Glad to hear stores are opening back up.
I live here as well as volunteering is the best way to help for me. Many have survivors guilt – its strange the way it’s affected all of us.
I have lots of hope-people who went without medical care and basic needs are getting them now. Lots of volunteer doctors social workers and therapists.
Comfy Shoes no heels are a big need as well as tampons and pads.
Thank you for posting this, Tamara. I continue to pray for the people of Texas. God tests us all, I believe, throughout life. It is very difficult to see how Texas has been, and will continue to be, tested for some time to come as a result of this horrible storm. They will persevere, for by God, they are Texans. Strength, love, and deep prayers to you all.
