Thursday nights are about to change forever. Shonda Rhimes is taking Shondaland and moving to Netflix.
Ted Sarandos, chief content officer of Netflix announced the move in a press release, “Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest storytellers in the history of television. Her work is gripping, inventive, pulse-pounding, heart-stopping, taboo-breaking television at its best. I’ve gotten the chance to know Shonda and she’s a true Netflixer at heart — she loves TV and films, she cares passionately about her work, and she delivers for her audience. We’re so excited to welcome her to Netflix.”
What does this mean for us exactly?
Well, this is the last season of Scandal. That was already decided. We will also have Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder this fall. Other than that things seem a bit unclear. There is a mid-season legal show called For The People that will still air on ABC, and also some sort of Grey’s Anatomy spin-off.
It looks like other than the spin-off and the legal show, Shondaland Thursdays end after the fall season.
Also, Netflix has the rights to all the back libraries of these shows so you won’t find them turning up on random late night channels.
So will you miss Shondaland Thursdays? I mean, the rate things are going in the world, we may all be dead by fall of 2018 so I’ll just be happy if we still have TV shows to watch when the time comes. I used to really like HTGAWM, but it kind of jumped the shark. I mean how many people can they really kill? Oddly, I was starting to get into Grey’s again after taking several years off. I just need Fitz and Olivia to get to Vermont.
She has made a ton of money on past shows…Let her take time off and perhaps develop something a bit different.
She will definitely be missed. But a “pay-away.”
Never got into “How to get away with Murder.”
I, too, took off a couple of years of Grey’s and was so surprised that with all the changes of characters, I was even more attracted and once again addicted.
This is even bigger deal now that they lost Disney. If they keep up with the great original productions, I keep subscribing.
Hope you all have seen The Crown. It is amazing.
