Sorry Catfish fans! I have been so far behind with all that is going on that I have been remiss in my Catfish recaps. I promise to get caught up soon. I actually love doing these recaps because for the most part, my Catfish readers are not the regular cast of fools that hang around here. It makes me feel like I am cheating on my own readers!
I usually don’t get spoiled on these shows but I heard little bits and pieces like the guy is terminally ill or something so I decided I better get this one done first.
The Couple: Robert is 23 and lives in Maryland Ashleigh is 22 and lives in Tennessee. Robert is paralyzed from the mid chest down. Apparently he is dying of some non disclosed terminal illness. He was pronounced dead twice. He proposed to Ashley about a year ago. She admitted she was not the girl in the photos, Robert was angry and tried to forget all about her. She reached out to him at Christmas and basically he just wants to meet her before he dies. Well this sounds awful.
The Simplistic Online Search: The google the girl and as it turns out she is a methhead who was charged with homicide in Nashville. So in answer to your question, Max. It could be really, really bad.
The Phone Call: The format is being expedited because of Robert’s err… limited time. Nev decides to go see the catfish in person because she is too afraid to come to Maryland to see Robert. She is probably on probation and can’t leave the state. So Nev hops a plane to Nashville and Max goes to tell Robert that the love of his life is a methhead who may or may not have killed someone.
The Follow-Up: Max tells Robert that it appears Ashley was involved in a homicide. Max asks if she ever mentioned that, or you know some big deal in past. Max, darling, I don’t think axe murderers tell people they are axe murderers on dating sites. That is why they are so scary. I should point out that Ashley’s mugshot is um, highly unattractive. And Robert saw that. Max asks if Robert would consider someone who was involved in a murder. He says, “Well… I was hoping for a relationship….” This may be the worst Catfish episode ever. Then he basically says he is no prize either and everyone deserves a chance. Good Lord this is sad.
Nev Meets with Ashleigh: Ashley’s house is cute. I was expecting a crackhead house. So as it turns out, there are two people with her name in Tennessee. She is not a crackhead nor did she kill anyone. She is the typical insecure overweight catfish with low self esteem who was bullied. She finally agrees to leave for Maryland with Nev.
The Couple Finally Meets: Ashley is so nervous she can’t stop talking about throwing up as she walks to the house. She is so terrified, she can’t walk through the door. She seems terrified of rejection. She walks in and gives Robert a hug and he tells her everything is fine.
When Ashleigh walks in, Robert, who basically said he would deal with the homicidal meth-head in the mugshot seems disappointed. Perhaps he does have some deal breakers he failed to mention? Robert says that he is anxious because he is afraid of getting hurt by her again.
Max goes to talk to Nev and says he thinks that Robert just isn’t interested in Ashleigh but doesn’t want to hurt her or reject her in such a public fashion. This episode is fifty shades of sad. I don’t even think they should have aired this. There is an awkward ending where Robert plays the friend card, while dangling hope for more as a carrot. Ashleigh hugs him goodbye and tells him she loves him and hopes he feels better. And she gets into a grey SUV with the boys and drives away in a drizzly rain.
The Two Month Check-In: Robert says he doesn’t talk to Ashley because she got all pissy with him. He has been seeing someone locally for the past month. She wasn’t able to just be friends. Ashley was too much drama. Ashley seems pretty much heartbroken and says that Robert didn’t accept the fact that she loves him. Men are assholes.
This episode was so depressing I forgot to look at all the production weirdness.
