Just the other day, we were talking about how very long the off seasons of Shahs of Sunset seem to be. Well, season six is fast approaching so we need to get ready for the premiere this Sunday. I got very excited for GG’s recent interview on E! and it was completely devoid of anything interesting. I believe her interview got cut way down because that was the day Rob Kardashian had a public meltdown.
Today, our friend Shira Weiss has not one but two great interviews onto prepare us for Sunday’s premiere. There is a lot of information there but that doesn’t mean it is all good news. The cast of this show is different from the housewives because they all know each other and their relationships within the group are always changing.
Let’s start with MJ. Sadly, her father who basically raised her as a single parent has been very ill for quite some time. She has been spending a lot of time in the hospital with him and this tragedy has affected more joyous events in her life. Her marriage to Tommy has been delayed.

SW: At the Season 5 reunion, you said you planned to get married in June of 2017. In the first episode of this new season, you say the wedding is on hold while you’re focusing on your dad. Do you guys have a new date in mind?
MJ: Culturally, you don’t plan a joyous occasion when someone is in such a critical condition. There were so many complications all at once and there are times when you can’t even function. I’m proud of how well I held myself together, but have been trying to hold it together as best as I could. There will definitely be a wedding!
Last August on the final reunion, MJ seemed to turn on Asa. At that reunion, MJ said she would never be friends with Asa again. Here is what I wrote about the friction between these two on part one of the reunion, “For some reason we start ganging up on MJ. Mike and Asa both have issues with Mercedeh. They are actually arguing over the fact that Asa eats too fast. Asa says that MJ is not a loyal friend and she badmouths her businesses to anyone who will listen. Why didn’t we have any inkling of this during filming? Apparently, the basis of the issue between MJ and Asa stems from when Vida was on WWHL and said that Asa needs to stop making the show all about her businesses. MJ says that Asa thinks MJ told her mother to say that. Asa says that MJ is jealous of her success. MJ says that Asa is just thin skinned and can’t handle Vida’s comments so she blames them on Mercedeh. MJ says that she and Asa are never going to be friends again and ends it with “With all do respect, Fuck You!” This is so weird, I never saw any of this on the show. It’s kind of sad.”
In the Huffington Post interview, it seems things have only gotten worse.
SW: There were a lot of tension between cast mates at the reunion. You said you would never be friends with Asa again. Where are the two of you now?
MJ: Let me say that I was so naive for such a long time. I gave Asa the benefit of the doubt and allowed her to take cheap shots at me. I’m annoyed with myself for being beguiled by her for so many years. Things are cold. What you will see unfold is: what kind of double standard her definition of friendship is – not just with me, but with everyone. She criticized me last season, she criticized my mom, she made anti-feminist remarks and she was ageist towards me. She was pretending to be this empowering person – a demagogue complex. I’m glad I articulated things at the reunion because what she does this year is going to take the cake!
I am sad to here that MJ is going to be back on Team Reza this season. Andy pointed out last season that Asa is the only cast member Reza has not spent a full season viciously attacking. It sounds like it will be Asa’s turn to be bullied. Did I mention she was pregnant during filming? I doubt that will matter to Reza.

In Mike’s interview, he hints that there is a lot of drama about Asa’s pregnancy because she is not married. UGH.
SW: Asa announces to your group that she is pregnant this season. Did you all feel a sudden itch to have a baby after hearing her news?
MS: This is one of my closest groups of friends and each one are my brothers and sisters. To see Asa as the first one pregnant was really exciting to me. She and Jermaine (Jackson) have been together a long time, are in love. It was unexpected news and also very good news. After the excitement settled, I started to think ‘They’re not married,” ‘Did they plan this?’ You see this on the show. I’m not a hater, but was just being worried as a brother about the decision being well thought out. At the same time, we’re all getting older and time is something we can’t stop. Get with it or you get left behind. She did the best thing for her and this was her decision. You see this season how we all react, the conversations we have about it with each other and with her, and there’s a lot of drama over it.
Wait, Jessica is back on the show, WHY????
We see a little bit of her with you this season, including a kiss on the lips. Is there anything we can tell viewers regarding your status with Jessica?
Look forward to an amazing season that’s also volatile and full of drama. Watch the evolution of my life. You saw us date, propose to one another, getting married, divorced and now you just have to watch what comes next.

One the first episode, they show MJ and Reza going for anal bleaching. Um, at least they are getting that out of the way. MJ really wants to get pregnant and Asa’s pregnancy will fuel that desire. Despite Reza saying on the reunion that he and Adam wanted two babies via two surrogates, on the promo trailer Adam is pushing for that and Reza doesn’t appear ready. So everyone seems to have babies on the brain in one way or another.
Are you guys ready for the new season? I always have such high hopes, only to be infuriated as the season plays out.
Guess I’ll just have to keep up thru the recaps here TT. I don’t think I can stand them going after Asa in any way. Love her & was over the moon about her nay!
baby news!
I hope Asa’s joy will be paramount. Think GG will try to usurp things. But I like them and will watch.
For me, Shah’s is much better than RHOC.
I’m really looking forward to. Been so long, I think I like it, in fact I know I do, lol. Anything but these housewives I at least have hope for new stories. I’m all in.
Reza’s rear end? Damn Straight you better clorox that! Butt who would want to watch?
Any asshole who takes offense to this needs to lighten up.
I don’t think there’s bleach enough in the world for Reza or his ass. Or my eyes.
That is fucking gold.
One thing that kinda holds true for all the shows has become a huge pet peeve. It’s the fertility doctor to freeze eggs, vag rejuvenation, used to be botox. The same stories over and over and same appointments. I could probably give the information myself after seeing it so many times. Forgot what show anal bleaching was on, but it’s been done.
Wags and KUWTK, I have heard.
Just don’t think I wanna sleep with someone that’s gonna stare at my ass hole that intently.
Amen sister!
I’m very happy for Asa and wish her a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby. A baby truly is a blessing and I wish her happiness.
I’ll have to wait to see how the ‘are you getting married’ story line plays out, but I’m inclined to understand the rest of the group wondering if she & Jermaine will marry. Having a baby is huge and I’m a little old fashioned myself. I think it is better for the baby’s security to have married parents when it is feasible ( that legal ‘family’ recognized by the courts etc) but at the same time what *I* think isn’t really relevant — Asa & Jermaine can make their own decisions and I think they will do what they think is best for their family.
As to all their relationships with each other — IMO they are one effed up dysfunctional family. They say truly awful things & do truly awful things to each other & then move on. Why MJ & Asa are still holding on to their feelings I can’t figure out, but I tend to think Reza is behind it. IMO he loves having the two of them ‘fight’ over him & he has spurred on their bad feelings toward each other.
I also have to confess I was giddy when I saw the new season was starting — for all their annoying qualities, I’ve missed seeing these crazy Persians on my tv!
She had the baby!
Asa and Jermaine have been dating since high school, Asa beats to the beat of her own drummer. Who are those idiots that cannot maintain a relationship have any say in her relationship. Asa and Adam are the only ones that always tried to keep the peace.
They have known each other since high school. Asa was married and divorced, to some kind of drug dealer (allegedly). Marriage probably isn’t important at this stage. Been there done that.
I stopped following all the Shah’s off season social media because I noticed after Trump’s election and then the travel ban debacle these normally very outspoken people went radio silent.
They only tweet fluff and aren’t being true to themselves or their community. Normally they are very active culturally and politically, but they obviously allowed themselves to be gagged in order to keep their place on tv. It was a timely reminder of the myriad of ways these Bravo people sign their lives away for fame.
I can assure you that the folks on this show do not follow politics at all. I recall them being asked about some political movies a while back that had to do with Iran. They had ZERO clue what was going on. It’s really best that don’t vote. Which I do not think they do,
LOL. AND MJ can’t vote. She’s a felon.
Felons can vote, in many states. California is one of them. As long as you are not currently in prison or on parole for a felony. (Each state is different)
Not everything is about politics. I watch these shows to get away from “real world” stuff. Also, although I don’t presume to know how they feel, people who left Iran after the fall of the Shah (which this casts parents did) might not have the views you expect them to –there is a reason Asa and her parents cannot go to Iran under the current regime.
Regardless — my point is, I like this show for the “fluff” — I can turn on World News Tonight if I want “serious.”
Tamara I have the same reaction as you. Every season I get excited for the new season to start and then I find myself wanting to throw my t.v. through the wall about 1/2 way through the season, lol.
I’m surprised that Rezza and MJ will go after Asa this season because her pregnancy will take center stage and god forbid Rezza is the not the “star” of the show and I believe he is behind the friction of MJ and Asa but I think Asa is the most equipped to battle back against them so they both better watch it.
Mike is ridiculous and I’m interested to learn more about GG’s short lived marriage.
I agree that Reza is behind the issues with Asa and MJ every season. I think Asa sees it for what it is, and knows that it is Reza drawing attention to himself on the show. I think MJ is truly emotionally invested in Reza and Reza uses that relationship with zero regard for MJ’s well being.
It’s for me the worst part of the show.
The music of friendship cannot rezanate if the sound is self absorbed.
Absolutely love the Shahs, especially the cooking and family times. I have picked up the BEST way to make rice from MJs observations concerning rice in Persian culture.
Both sides of my family, Poles and Slovaks, fight like the Shahs, but they don’t forgive. Watching the show, I feel like I am in the midst of my relatives. Except they don’t despise each other 20 years later.
I am firmly Team MJ. Vida says things my mom used to say. Also, chihuahuas. Also, Tommy is a gem. My husband and I both like him. When we see the vivious fights between Vida and Tommy, it reminds us of how my mom used to fight my husband. Good times!
Edit: 20 years later my relatives are not speaking. Don’t think a Bravo contract could help that.
Uh, huh. Dysfunctional families are teh suck. My maternal uncle and aunt haven’t spoken in over 20 years, over something regarding his 2nd wife, or maybe the next one (a common-law wife) and a custody dispute? Hard to recall. And let’s not even get into my own father; it’s just WAY too messy. At least a few of these Reality Families, like even the Kar—ians seem almost warm and fuzzy sometimes, y’know?
I truly don’t understand MJ moving into the same complex as her MOM VIda.
Yes, it makes for drama, however, Vida is pretty toxic IMO.
All the cast is getting up there in years. Isn’t MJ in her mid-40″s by now?
I want to see more of them actually working. Oh well..
The only ones who work outside the show are Asa and Shervin.
