RHOA News: Separating Fact From Fiction

July 6, 2017 by tamaratattles 29 Comments

There are a lot of  hyperbolic headlines floating around about the RHOA today. Some are true and some are just made up headlines for a really slow news day. Let’s start with Kenya.  Kenya is most definitely filming Season 10 of RHOA. They are not going to fire her for getting married. I do not know who starts this stuff, but it’s so ridiculous I can’t believe I have to refute it. Kenya’s husband has never said anything to anyone about the show. Kenya married a real man who is not interested in being on a reality show. He is a NYC businessman and will not be relocating to Atlanta.  Does this mean we will never see him on the show? No it doesn’t. It means the show is not a priority for him. He has never said anything at all let alone he doesn’t like how black males are portrayed on the show. I’m sure Kenya will be going back and forth to NYC during breaks in filming, or even with a filming crew as I understand they are looking for a new marital home in NYC. Kenya is likely looking to sell Moore Manor soon. I’m sure we will see him in some capacity. But he is not going to be a Peter, or a Greg or an Apollo. He’s just not that into it.

After Season 10 I think that Kenya and her husband will have a discussion about whether or not she should continue to film RHOA. This all seems perfectly normal to me. There is no story here. It’s a nothing burger.

Next, Phaedra’s offer on her home apparently fell through as the under contract sign has been removed. She has listed it on the open market and it is now on MLS with a list price of $1,499,00. This is almost twice what she paid for it a few years ago and the neighbors feel it is way over priced. The neighbors claim that she has made improvements to the house that were not permitted. I am going to need some help from a Realtor here regarding what the consequence of that is during inspection. The neighbors say once a buyer has an inspection the unpermitted work will be discovered. Then what happens? Can someone explain this to me?

On to Kandi. Xscape fans were losing their minds on Sunday night at the final concert of Essencefest. Best I can determine, tickets to Essencefest are sold as passes that get you into the entire festival. Inside the festival there are pop up shops, bars, restaurants, and multiple performance sites.  Some of the folks are listening to speakers or attending mini conferences, some are listening to music performances, some are shopping. The Superdome is the center of all of the hubub.

So when Xscape decided to reunite, they we admitted as performers long after most things had been booked and planned. The venue they were performing was not the main stage, but a lounge sort of connected to the main stage.  The attendees apparently overwhelmingly choose to attend the Xscape concert over whatever was on the main stage. They clogged the aisles attempting to get to the show with mobs of people clogging the exit routes. This created a fire hazard and a whole lot of fans were turned away.  So the fans are angry at the venue, not the group. Kandi has apologized to the fans and promises to return to New Orleans soon.

That is really all that is going on this week. Oh and all of these names of new people testing to replace Porsha or Cynthia. That is not happening. They test people every season even when there are no spots available so they have a little pool of contenders. If Kenya bids farewell after this season, or any of the returning OGs are done, that is when we will see fresh meat. Things are just now getting ready to start. It’s way to early for all the dramatics.

That depends. I think if she gets a baby, she will drop it all and be a stay at home mom. She’s very domesticated. Despite that charade on the cooking show, Kenya knows how to cook. I can see her being very happy as a NYC mom.

As much as I have been saying, that Bravo and Andy have lost interest in RH and all franchise need recast and reboot – it would be strange without Kenya on RHOA.

I do hope she is successful with the IVF!

I’d like to see Bravo add her to the NY show. She’d bring ratings up and would change the dyamics for the better.

Kenya stand by what you believe in and don’t sell your marriage out for ratings or just to make producers and the network happy. I truly hope you stand firm and protect your marriage also people always call Kenya out for her ways but it’s a woman on the cast who sleeps with married men and higher ups to make sure she’s “Signed Sealed And Delivered” I’m just saying. Xscape’s comeback has been amazing and I’m happy for Kandi and the girls.

I would love to see Kenya on New York. Time to integrate a show besides Atlanta. I am interested in what exactly Phaedra did to her house that was not permitted. As in what did she do to it?? Leave it to her to disregard the rules. No real surprise there.

Kenya or Cynthia in NY? Bravo keeps things separate but unequal. Andy Jim Crowin’ Cohen only allowed one token in the diverse universe of which he is the center. A raisin in the sun!

I’m glad the Kenya rumors aren’t true however I hope she leaves that train wreck of a show after this season

And It’s good that her husband won’t be to involved with rhoa. They don’t want to see Kenya happy I would keep my husband far away as much as I could.

And thx goodness Fraud Parks is gone

Regarding the non-permitted work, I’m sure it varies by state/town, but I think as long as the work is able to pass inspection by building inspector (town, not the one hired by the buyer), all would be fine on the renovations. Around here, building permits are used in determining valuations for property taxes (if you pull a permit to redo a kitchen, that’s factored into your home value), so Phaedra’s potentially avoided a higher property tax bill since she had the work done. I guess in theory they could fine her. I live a state with super high property taxes, so I could be off on this since I think GA property taxes are pretty reasonable, right?

Here in Minnesota, if work is unpermitted and discovered, the City, Township or whatever can actually make you remove something like an addition to a home. I’ve never heard of them actually doing it, but they can.

I don’t know how an inspection would uncover unpermitted work done to the home unless the work was not done to code. Any code violations would have to be fixed and that would mean pulling permits so it could take quite some time.

In my town they usually fine people but have ordered people to tear down structures if they failed to get the proper variance and a neighbor also complained. An inspector at closing won’t know if the owner got the proper permits when the work was performed. They don’t do that type of due diligence.

I’ve spoken with people who’ve purchased houses where really shoddy work was performed, probably without permits, the inspector at closing didn’t pick it up and they had no recourse after closing.

In my town, it has (allegedly) happened to several people with this same developer who “flipped” houses years ago. He’s moved on to bigger and better. He is the husband of a well known make-up artist who started her own very successful eponymous cosmetics company in the 1990’s based on a natural look. She’s a bit pretentious but well liked in town, he is definitely not.
She stepped down from the company recently and they’re renovating an old B&B down the street from me; it will be a “concept hotel, stocked with her make-up and “fav things”. Looks gorgeous. Natch!

In my state unpermitted changes are not included in lender valuations. however there are some lenders that may refuse financing if the changes pose a safety hazard thus necessitating tearing the work out.

I’m not an expert on this, but I can tell you what happened when I sold my house last fall and it was discovered that part of the house was not permitted. I was not allowed to sell or rent it until it was brought to code. I had to come up with tens of thousands of dollars to pay a structural engineer and a contractor who ripped out walls, rafters, and electrical stuff. The previous owner who failed to disclose the problem now has cancer. I still have hope that he will die in a fire.

I figured this potential firing was bogus since she has already signed her contract and are currently filming. Her wedding dress is so pretty. I’d love to see her on the RHONY (and Cynthia too), but really want her to be a wife and mother and maybe do a little charity work. I think NYC is a better fit for her anyway. I am so happy for her.

I’ll go out on the limb and say Kenya will either choose to leave after this season, or be fired. People will lose interest if she doesn’t share her marriage.

I also don’t see her fitting into RHONY. The cultural differences are too great, and the same stunts she pulls on RHOA wouldn’t work with the ladies of NY. Even so…people would want a glimpse into her marriage in order to remain interested no matter which franchise.

Also, I do NOT see her giving up fame for love…not in a million years.

    Then again…I’m not a fan.

I agree with you. Kenya’s choices in men have been horrible and this guy who she admittedly dated for only a few months total says he’s a restauranteur but does he really have an ownership stake that pays enough for Kenya not to work while living in NYC and paying for all the IVF stuff? And a fist bump after being pronounced man and wife says business deal to me.

Kenya’s a strong woman and would be a great Mom. She could have adopted as a single mother and had a great life, but maybe this will work out for her and be a lifelong partnership.

In most states, the seller has an obligation to disclose unpermitted work as they would with other defects. The penalties vary widely; here in NY there’s been a shift in the past 20 years to protecting the buyer for failure to disclose and the costs to fix it can be assigned to them.
