Below Deck Mediterranean: iCloudy With A Chance of Secrets

June 28, 2017 by tamaratattles 38 Comments

Sorry for the delay on this recap tonight. Lots of court and real estate news to report on today and it was quite time-consuming. I am so ready for this episode because Hannah, Adam and Malia are all hiding big secrets that are about to come out! Last episode’s ending was a bombshell! Also, Max’s girlfriend is coming for a conjugal visit!

We start with Hannah slinking back in her bed at five a.m. after hooking up with Jason, the primary, in the master suite.  Later that morning when Hannah gets up there is an awkwardness between them. Jason asks for and receives Hannah’s email address.

I love that Captain Sandy allows her crew to try their hand at docking the boat. When the guests leave and Jason brings out the tip envelope, I wonder if Hannah will take the tip amount as payment for services rendered. The total tip was $15,000 or around $1,400 each.  Captain Sandy has planned a trip to the fortress for the day. I believe that is where the famous SHAME! SHAME! scene of Game of Thrones was filmed as well as many others. Or perhaps that is where the SHAME! scene was not allowed to film because there was a naked woman involved. I recall reading some controversy about that and am not sure how it was resolved. I want to say they completely shut down all traffic for it and only paid extras that were part of production could participate in filming. But never rely on my memory these days. Either way, it’s a really cool day trip for the crew.

Max’s girlfriend shows up and she is really pretty but not incredibly bright. We didn’t get to see as much of the fortress as I would have liked, but I’ll take it. On the day trip Malia continues to act like a bee pollinating two different flowers. It’s very awkward for everyone. Except Malia.

Later that night, the gang all goes out to a restaurant and they are not seated at one long table but at two or three smaller ones. Adam gets the seat next to Malia and Wes is at a table nearby. When Malia claims she needs to go to the bathroom, Wes follows her and takes her aside for a walk by the water to talk. He asks what is going on with Adam and she tells him that he asked her out on a date the next night. Wes says if that is the direction she wants to go, he won’t stand in the way, but he wants to make it clear that he would like to pursue her if she is open to it. She continues to lead him on by being noncommittal. He hugs her and she says “Let’s just see what happens.” And he kisses her. They make out for a bit and then she returns to her seat next to Adam.

Adam is aware she was just with Wes and is not pleased it.  He asked her if that walk with Wes was planned. She says that Wes totally has feeling for her and they work side by side every day. She says she told Wes about their date, and she just wishes he could be supportive of the difficult position she is in. She does not mention making out with him. She says that Wes heartbroken. Adam says he just met her. Then he mentions “all they have been through. The penthouse in Santorini…”

That pops us out of the action straight to a confessional where Adam admits to production that they were in a relationship before coming on the boat.  Then over to Malia’s confessional. She says that they met three weeks before coming on charter at a Yacht certification class that the Below Deck clan have to take before they are cleared to charter. They decided not to tell anyone on the show. Then Malia met Wes and fell for him.

Back in real time, Malia tells Adam things are fine with them. Malia seems to be telling production, she’s more interested in Wes.  Adam makes some remarks to Wes about him going off on a walk with the girl of his dreams.

Hannah has gone back to her cabin to text with Jason rather than hanging out watching the guys all trying to hook up with Malia.

Back on the boat, Malia takes Adam aside and tells him that the drama is too much for her and she thinks it is best for the boat if she backs away from both of them. He’s pissed but decides the best thing for him is to walk away. Adam is one of those people who clean when they are angry. I really wish I had that gene. He has been cleaning the galley for hours.

The next morning, as everyone is preparing for the next charter, Hannah is texting away while Bugsy makes sure everything is in order. While working in the master suite, Bugsy hears the tablet provided for the primary guest’s use beeping. She picks it up to discover that it is displaying a series of texts between Hannah and Jason. Jason apparently logged in on the tablet when his phone was out of commission and never logged out. All of the texts between the two are there. For some odd reason she shares this information with Bobby.

Hannah and Lauren are outside having a smoke. Hannah tells Lauren that Jason found her on social media and they have been talking. She tells the story in a way where nothing happened on charter and they are now talking on social media. I suspect that Jason was Hannah’s boyfriend and got a great rate on the charter. This would explain why he was traveling without a date, and why the other women were so into Bobby. They are probably just fans of the show and didn’t recognize any of the other deckhands. It all makes sense. It also furthers the storyline that Hannah started on the first episode where she said she’s not sure she will make the entire season with Captain Sandy. This was all planned in advance, right down to the phone accidentally going in the hot tub. It’s most likely one of the waterproof phones.

But let’s continue on as if the scripting was not so obvious, shall we?

Well I can’t really do that at this point. Because clearly the reason Bugsy told Bobby is because Bobby is the one that can’t stand Hannah and will be the one to rat her out to Captain Sandy. Was all the fighting between those too on WWHL scripted crap as well?  I like reality  TV so much better when I thought is was mostly real. This is why I love Big Brother because the live feeds can’t be nearly as scripted as the show.  Anyway, Bobby and Bugsy and Max and his girlfriend go out to dinner and Bobby brings the iPad. The problem Bobby and Bugsy claim to have is not that their conversations began during the white party, but that she told Jason the crew expected a bigger tip. Of course this entire conversation is scripted if you believe my theory that Jason is actually Hannah’s boyfriend.

Jason is still there walking past the boat waving at Hannah who has been perched on the bow texting with him the whole time. The foursome plan to follow their texts to run into accidentally out on the town.

Meanwhile, poor sweet Wes is having some sort of South African BBQ event for Max and the girlfriend. It’s called a braai. But Max and Bobby go to follow Hannah who has gone to meet Jason. Bobby and Max don’t exactly catch her in the act, but they do scare her back on the boat with the rest of them.

Bugsy wants to tell Hannah that they know so that she will confess to the Captain before they have to rat her out. So they do. Hannah says she has done nothing wrong.

The next morning, Max’s girlfriend leaves as it’s time for the next charter. Hannah plans to tell Captain Sandy about her indiscretions by pointing out how Bugsy invaded her privacy.  Lauren also seems to think this is a logical bit of reasoning.  Captain Sandy seems highly upset when Hannah admits to kissing Jason in the Master Suite. Captain Lee would have handed her a ticket home right then and there, but Captain Sandy gives her the non-punishment/reward of not having to work the late shift anymore so she won’t be tempted to make out with any more charter guests. WTF? Even for scripted TV this is a ridiculous script.

Hannah and Bugsy have a chat and Bugsy suggests that she change bunks with Lauren due to all the tension between the two. Hannah is more than happy to make that change. Lauren is happy about it too. Especially, because Hannah is acknowledging her existence.

Remember how they are charting a yacht to serve guests? Me neither, so I was surprised that a new batch of guests showed up.  Bobby tries to take the boat off the dock, but as Captain Sandy says, “He needs a little more practice.”

Hannah is irritated by Adam’s interaction with the guests with a backwards ball cap, a dish rag on his shoulder and his cooking apron on. Hannah and Adam bicker about Adam’s lack of professional attire. More preparation for him to leave with her so Ben and Emily can come back.

Next week: Even more crew drama as Wes and Malia hook up and Hannah draws her battle lines. Also Bugsy looks over it, maybe Emily replaces Bugsy instead?

      PUHLEASE.

I was just watching a taped program when the EBS crap started and pushed me off until it returned on Below Deck rerunning.

I heard Bugsy say how completely inappropriate it is for a chief stew to flirt with the primary. Um, 93.85% of the time that is the norm. Especially at luxury resorts.

When I travel by myself, all of the male staff particularly in International countries flirt with my fat elderly ass, and keep me VERY Happy. That way, when the hot bartender who has been serving me island drinks all night wants to cut me off, he gets away with very sweetly telling me the van to my room has arrived because his shift has ended, but he can just hardly wait to serve me my banana daquiri in the morning. And it seems everso much nicer than, “bitch you are cut off now hike your fat ass up the mountain so we can go home to our wives rather than pretending to love your fascinating stories.”

      That’s the hospitality business.

That said, it was totally Hannah’s boyfriend paying a conjugal visit.

I’m so naive. It never occurred to me that Jason could be Hannah’s boyfriend, but now that you mention it, …

I’ve liked Bugsy so far, but when she found the iPad, she should have logged out of that text account–because it is a major violation of the primary’s privacy, never mind Hannah. When she went and showed it to Bobby, I was shocked she did that.

Malia needs to choose one or the other, not lead them both on. And I mean choose one to be involved with later, not while you’re working together.

Did Hannah just told Lauren she’d not on the yatch to make friend but to work? What she call hooking up with a charter guest?&if this is a previous pre plant bf-gf crap like adam&malia, just made the show so much more fake.people, stop attacking Bucky.the show’s obviously fake&scripted.the only real person is the poor captain with idiot crew members. Did anyone noticed how the real, important members of the yatch hardly got real time? The mechanics.

That’s because they do not want to be filmed. There is also a first mate/officer type person as well. This has been the case every season.

I never thought that it was Hannah’s boyfriend, so enlightening! I have long ago suspended the idea that this is “reality” tv, but it is still entertaining. Even if it is scripted, this is a far better show than so many of the others.. It was a great intriguing episode without a drunken brawl, or screaming or violence. I love Bugsy, she plays the game. Of course she should have spoken to Hannah first but to see the delight in Bobby’s face and the keystone-cops version of stalking Hannah was fun tv.

If he is Hannah’s bf bugs was still wrong because he was a primary and bugs should have logged him out, she totally invaded his primary not to mention acted like she was back in high school by telling everyone. I didn’t like her before but I like Hannah and bugs has shown her true colors, Hannah was right about her.

The only thing I couldn’t figure out was why Bugs ran to Bobby, of all people, when she found the iPad.

Hannah has other enemies onboard (well, Adam), but Bobby is both an enemy and highly volatile.

That kind of move takes some forethought. Interesting.

A couple of weeks ago when all the “onion” stuff happened I thought he reminded me of Ted Bundy, (not that Adam is evil like Bundy was), but Bundy had that kinda young boyish look about him and when he would try and act sweet with that wide eye look and soft voice Adam reminds me of Bundy.

I like pretending/believing this shit is never scripted or influenced.

So, I actually find Bugsy’s deliberate spreading the gossip and showing EVERYONE the iPad disgusting, vindictive, and very “mean girl”. For someone who is CONSTANTLY reminding us that she is the arbiter of all things regarding yachtie professionalism, it was extremely unprofessional. If I were Captain Sandy she would be on notice that she might be fired.

I also DO NOT like the implication that Sandy made that Hannah cannot control herself. It was a momentary slip up. Professional or not, it would take ANYONE a moment to go “whoa, I want to keep my job and this isn’t appropriate” when someone you are attracted to initiates a kiss. I could see saying “I want passengers to see the head stew at the beginning of the day so you can fill them in on the day’s schedule, handle any questions, etc.” But “I can’t trust you not to jump someone’s bones?” I’m not a slut shamer, but the unprofessional one who can’t seem to keep her hands off people is Malia. It is HIGHLY inappropriate of both her and Wes to be dating when he is her boss. Adam’s behavior has been MUCH more egregious as well.

(I find TT’s thoughts that Jason is Hannah’s boyfriend, or at least someone she knew beforehand credible because I felt the attraction between H & J palpable and authentic. Beyond “he’s hot”)

Oh, and the “iPad belongs to the yacht, therefore the whole crew” is complete and utter bullshit.

Hannah told captain sandy that the guy pulled her aside to kiss her, she ran after him and let herself into his cabin, she lied. Bugsy probably shouldn’t have shown it to bobby and told everyone else about it but Hannah should have also behaved in a professional manner. I think Bugsy would be a hell of a chief stew, and I think Lauren is a sad yes man to Hannah.

PROBABLY? I said that Hannah was wrong in what happened. I think he called her name, and even if she did follow him that doesn’t mean he didn’t initiate the actual kiss. Frankly that is semantics. She had a lapse in judgment, period.

It was a REPEATED lack of judgement to spend the day looking at someone’s personal messaging account, especially if it is a client, even if it is easy to do. If she’s so fucking offended by Hannah’s actions (vs onions, or Malia’s shenanigans destroying morale), she should have gone to the Captain, not BOBBY of all freaking people.

If I were lucky enough to travel like this, I would not have a problem being around Hannah. I would have a problem trusting Bugsy or Adam, for that matter. If she works in the industry off camera, she made a big mistake.

Frankly, when Bugsy makes a comment about if she were chief stew, she wouldn’t trust her underlings to handle breakfast or the start of the day’s itinerary, or she wouldn’t have her staff handle something else – she is indicating that she is untrustworthy.

I agree with everything in your post @Erica. When Bugsy made that comment ,in her talking head, about how she didn’t make the comment that she should be chief stew but she might think it. That is when she totally lost me. Passive/Aggressive much? Then she went to Hannah trying to patch things up? Please she has some Landon in her far as I can see. Totally not to be trusted.

On of the pitfalls of reality TV is that most people don’t seem to understand, that the fake messages were on the ipad on purpose, and the onion stuff was story line, everything thing these people do and say is scripted out a head of time. It is not a coinkydink that Captain Sandy asked about the tablet, nor that Bobby said “He probably logged into his Apple account” Or that Bugsy was in the master suite while the fake messaging was going on.

It is no accident that Lauren facetimed Ben in the beginning and we’ve never heard mention of him again. It’s no coincidence that Hannah said something about not making it through the full season on the first episode.

It is hard to fill these charters because they have only a short window of filming time. It’s expensive and when they don’t fill, we get other Bravo folks on a charter, or repeat guests from previous seasons, or in this case Hannah’s boyfriend and some random Below Deck fans.

I would rather they find a new chef besides Ben. I do like Ben, but not every show every season. I think out there is some chef chomping at the bit to do a good job and last a whole charter. I also do not think I can take even one more Bemily episode. I really don’t.

The Hannah/Jason thing makes complete sense. When they first met on the yacht, the chemistry was instantaneous and they both seemed kind of “giggly”.

IMO, Bugsy was wrong to share the info with the others and the truly professional and ethical thing to do would have been to log him off. And if she doesn’t have a problem with Malia messing with the dynamics of the crew why should she have a problem with Hannah and a guest?

I long for the days reality television was real, if it ever really was. Instead we find ourselves speculating about all these people and their lives and the drama. These are the soap operas of today with a little bit of reality thrown in, for better or worse.
