Bill Maher Drops The N Word On His HBO Show “Real Time”

June 3, 2017 by tamaratattles 65 Comments

Chop by SurvivorSucks Chopper UNC!

And my first thought was, is he ready to retire? How much did Kathy Griffin pay him to take the heat off her? Will the liberals demand he be fired?  WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON? Two white guys having a conversation can’t drop the N word WITH THE DREADED -er ending!

Kathy Griffin’s career is in the toilet for a beheading video and attacking a middle schooler for the perceived sins of his father. In my head she is chatting with her friend Bill.

“Bill, my life is ruined! No comedian in the history of the world has fucked up like this!: says Kathy.

Bill says, “Hold my beer. I need to go interview Republican senator Ben Sasse from Nebraska.”

Kathy says, “Who? and is Nebraska in the United States?”

Bill is all like, “I got you girl, just hold my joint. NOT THAT ONE! This one! ”

And then he does this.

UPDATE! Here is the apology…

“Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show. Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry,”

WTF with the liberals. They have all lost their minds. You would think it was their president who was constantly fucking himself in the White House.

I’m actually a bit shocked at the back lash against Kathy Griffin and I would be shocked if we’re still talking about this incident after the weekend. Liberals have a way of protecting their own and liberals run the entertainment industry. Don’t get me wrong, Conservatives protect their own as well, they just don’t have a voice when it comes to entertainment.

That seems to make sense to me, Mary. Like totally. At this point I’m over all of it. I’m fixing to go back into my own little world, & wish the rest of the world well. It may not be the best way to deal with it all, but it’s the only way I can think of for myself right now. I know an evolution of sorts is occurring. I know things will get worse before they get better. In the scheme of the universe, everything is working out properly regardless of appearances.

It’s a gorgeous day outside and I’m gonna get out there and try to refocus on the true beauty of everything and everyone in the world around me. I think my biggest obstacle will be my road rage. (Just kidding! But SC drivers around here have a tendency to drive 10 under the speed limit where GA drivers have a tendency to drive 10 miles over the speed limit. My goal is to drive the actual speed limit but even that seemed to be foiled. There’s got to be a lesson in all this just haven’t figured it out yet.)

It’s going to get worse for Kathy because she got Lisa Bloom involved. Lisa will make sure it stays in the news and becomes s feminist issue, instead of an admittedly dreadful mistake that Kathy admitted and apologized for.

I hate hearing the “n” word ever. I recall talking to three young black men at a football game who were using the word.
If you look online Bill Mayer is being attacked for saying that by Variety, other Entertainment press plus mainstream press. There just isn’t enough news time for all crap that is coming out everyday.

With all the nasty viterol that has been said since this last election began the bar we normally don’t cross has dropped so low the shock value is no longer there.
As long as the term liberal is used to describe people who are not Christian want to give away the government and right wing conservative “nut job” as the only moral compass and savior of our tax system we will have this divide.
There are plenty of Republucans that never set a foot in a church and support health care and Democrats who are highly religious and don’t support universal health care.
    None are allowed to compromise.

I believe if we remove religion from politics we could focus on compromises to our larger problems.
Sad every problem or event that arises it’s the other side that isn’t responding correctly.

I believe that religion if defined as the basic tenants of someone’s beliefs and the practice of acts following those beliefs), can be used to bring the best out of all of us, and provided a foundational element of our constitution.. As I see it, it is not the idea or existence of religion that is the problem. Just like each issue raised on this thread, the true issue is how concepts ( like religion, freedom of speech, slavery, safety, pick another) are abused and misused to meet the speaker’s goal.
Religion has been poorly treated and mistreated for several decades now, as we find our peers continue to reach new lows in blaming “religion” for whatever they say that is controversial or they can’t explain other than through emotion. This is both a fallacy and does a great injustice to each of us. The same is true of Republican, Conservative, Democrat, and liberal. They are labels and have been abused and misused. We don’t suggest doing away with the concepts; they are part of our world. The role of religion has been changing in the lives of some of our citizens, and much has ben reflected in how some of us live today. But some have tried to blame religion.

I guess I would ask, above it appears you are describing mingling the notion of conservative/liberal with Christian/un. What is specific to this definition that is the problem you want to avoid? I think you are describing generalizations that just are not necessarily accurate.
Pick an issue, like immigration, taxes, sanctuary cities, and I know many Christians who split on issues, with as many on one side as the other. I don’t think it is the faith that always defines the response, it is more responsive to many cultural issues. Certainty there are some issues ,one or two in particular, that many Christians agree on, but pick a religion and you will find different answers, too. But no religion I know tells anyone how to vote or what they must believe.

Isn’t the issue more that we are finding cultural shifts and lifestyle choices that are fundamentally both different than how America was some fifty years ago, and there are far more options today than before? I don’t think we can define someone in terms of one or another and that was easier to do before. it

But I still find that most people in America start from the same place, want similar things for themselves and those they love. Life changes, hurts some, causes their focus and goals to change, but most start here. Their goals for America may be somewhat different, but they have some basics in common Freedom, choice, and free will among them, choice to practice religion among those. So isn’t it separate now? Trying to understand-not sure I understand your point.
        Interesting issues.

Conservatives blame the left and Liberals blame the right. The rest of us who tire of all these distractions are left wondering WTF is going on! Can someone tackle the problems this country is facing without the circus of 24 hour news cycles scrambling for the next headline to capture audience share of their segregated reporting? What happened to the real journalists who scrambled to investigate real news regardless of right or left? Instead of information, news is now a form of entertainment and has become just a step above reality TV. Walter Cronkite would cringe at what the “news” has become. ? #itsallfakenews

I take slavery serious, but I am not offended, Black people use this word everyday with each other, why get offended when someone says it generally. He did not call anyone the name. Back in the day a —– was considered an ignorant person, now it is considered a person who is Black or dark skinned, how ironic. I am a Black American Princess, I am not a —–, I take no offense. It is obvious that he is not a house —— nor did he call anyone one. My friends as well as myself are very in touch with who we are and we are not easily offended because of the statement. Then he called Sarah Palin (who I am NOT a fan of) a twat and cunt on air. His show was new, and had a relatively small viewership when he made the first comment and I don’t recall hearing any outcry. His show was established and had a much larger viewership when he made the second comment, but still no outcry. Despite his proclaimed liberal leanings, he’s always been a misogynist asshole.

I’m a liberal, I’ll even admit it in public 🙂 That doesn’t mean I’m required to be offended by everything. I too struggle with having to change my vocabulary all the time in an attempt to respect diversity. And I don’t understand why we would give so much power to something as simple as a word. Expelled breath and vocal vibrations, that’s all. However, I try to never accidentally offend people, so I keep up with whatever the latest taboo word is as best I can. I prefer my offensiveness to be reserved for purposeful and pointed attacks.

As a liberal, have I lost my mind? Ha, if only. It’s been lost for a few decades now, so that’s a moot point. Also, I think we’re all losing our minds a little in the current climate of fear and uncertainty. Since the election I’ve gone out of my way to read articles by conservatives too. I don’t want it to be us against them. Which means I have to be willing to put down the club, stop yelling names, and open my mind to another opinion. I’m trying.

I know it’s traditionally a stereotypical “liberal” thing to be offended, but omg, the conservatives are neck deep into it today, too. I think changes need to be in order. I no longer think liberals have a monopoly on being easily offended and getting worked up over seemingly trivial slights lol

I am liberal, but I am not easily offended at all. I pick and choose very carefully what matters I actually take issue with and the context in which they were said/done. Most things are not that serious and not even remotely worth the energy getting worked up about.

Not shocking. I kind of suspected he was at least somewhat racist a decade ago when the Video Vixen (Karrine Steffans) wrote that book about their relationship. Yes, he had a black girlfriend who lived with him for a LONG time. But even then it was obvious he had issues with race. He was a but controlling and wanted to be very traditional. When I read the book, I felt it wasn’t because she was a woman….it was because she was black.

It doesn’t bother me that much. I am not that offended. People who have been watching Bill for a long time are familiar with his brand of humor and he’s always pushed the envelope. He’s a comedian and that’s what they do. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I feel a lot of people saying they hate him or think he’s a racist/sexist etc are reacting based off individual sound bites and clips and haven’t really followed his work to see the big picture. I have, and I don’t think he’s a racist. I think it was just a joke (albeit not a great one) and everyone needs to calm down. Just my opinion, everyone is entitled to a their own.

He also thinks Milo is complete lunatic/dick, not sure why you’d think he’s an apologist, because he had him on the show? He has lots of people with whom he does not agree on the show. I’m not really sure what queer baiting means, but I don’t think being aloof makes one un-liberal like.

I don’t like the word ever by anyone. It has nasty symbolism behind it. The joke could have been just as funny without it. Whenever I here someone say it ‘accidentally’ I just wonder how often it’s a part of their vocabulary otherwise. I never accidentally say words that are not a part of my normal vacab. For instance sometimes a cuss word slips out at a place where it shouldn’t but it’s not because I never say them it’s that I didn’t want those people to know I said them.

With all the words out there, many of which we rarely or never tap into, how hard id it not to use the N word, and F word? I mean, come on. You either accept that these words are not ok to use and refrain from doing so or you choose to use them is spite of that and accept the consequences, you don’t then apologize and say it was an accident. Please.

I get that it was unnecessary, but the “joke” wouldn’t have been a joke without it. The term “house n___” is the joke, the senator suggested bill work in the fields. I fully understand people thinking the use of the term is completely inappropriate, but to say “the joke would’ve been funny without it”? I don’t see how you could’ve made that joke otherwise.

I have been watching bill maher for 20 years, and have seen him live countless times, I could SWEAR i have heard the term with the “ah” on the end, not the “er” before and no backlash. In a joke, or in reference to what someone else said, etc.

I was not that shocked Friday. However, I understand it’s offensive and he should apologize, and did. That will be the end of it, hbo is not cancelling or firing him.

But bill is not “shock” comedy, he does not say what he says to shock people, he just speaks his mind genuinely and sometimes that is shocking or too harsh, or goes too far. That is quite different than not meaning what you say and saying things only for their shock value.

    He’ll be fine.

I’m Black and I was not offended. I thought the joke was funny.

People are directing their outrage and energy at a comedian who apologized instead of the real racists in public office and positions of power who are altering laws and challenging the Constitution and are actually affecting peoples lives. Like Phil Stair a government official in Michigan who said “F*cking ni**ers don’t pay their bills. Believe me I deal with them.” referring to why there is a water crisis in Michigan.

What Stair said and what Maher said did not have the same intent. Maher did not say it in an intentionally derogatory, racist or demeaning way. Stair did. Maher is not a government official. Stair was.

I hope everyone that is so outraged and energized by Kathy Griffin and Bill Maher’s mistakes and want to burn them down take that same outrage and energy to the voting booth in November 2018 and vote the Republican majority out of Congress.
