Real Housewives of New York: Bidding on Love

May 17, 2017 by tamaratattles 56 Comments

This season the filming pairs are all switched up. For example, Bethenny and Dorinda go furniture shopping and Bethenny announces she has purchased another apartment that is nearly twice the size of the one she has now. She says it feels more like a home. Dorinda is doing some minor renovations on her place now that he daughter is moving out. It will be Dorinda’s first time living alone. They talk about Ramona briefly and Bethenny seems unwilling to even deal with Ramona.

Ramona goes out shopping with her daughter and talks to her about her problems with Bethenny. She doesn’t seem to know what Ramona has done, but she does know that Ramona’s delivery is terrible.

Luann and Sonja meet out to talk about the issues with Bethenny and Ramona. Luann things says Ramona should try to make up. Sonja suggests Ramona give Bethenny some space.

Ramona, Sonja and Tinsley go to Boutique to pick up men.  Ramona gives Tinsley tips on how to pick up guys. Tinsley quickly sets her sites on one guy in particular. He’s cute and quite young, he says he is in his twenties.  Ramona and Sonja both try to cockblock. Tinsley just starts making out with the guy, Chad, in the bar. I mean Boutique is a meat market.

Back at Sonja’s the next day, Sonja starts yelling at Tinsley for turning the heat on. It’s not just Sonja’s ice that is brown, he water is too. I do not see how the place has a certificate of occupancy.

Dress for Success is Bethenny’s favorite charity and she is going to their big annual event. Dennis shows up to support her. Bethenny tells us that Dennis was her first true fan. She explains how they got together after he “broke up with his wife.”  Bethenny has a new charity, Bstrong which is apparently connected to Dress for Success.  Bethenny gets emotional talking about it. Carole tells us in confessional that Bethenny is still having a lot of struggles with Jason and so she is a bit emotional. Her charity is to help other women struggling with getting out of their bad relationships and making it on their own. I think it is great that Bethenny is giving back to the community in that way.

Carole and Adam went to this giant rock climbing place.  Carole is not really into the whole deal, but when you are dating a much younger guy you find yourself doing ridiculous things like this. The big news is that Adam’s apartment fell through and they are going to be living together for the foreseeable future. I am not sure what Carole wants out of this relationship. I don’t think she is either.

Tinsley goes bowling with Chad, the twenty-three year old from Boutique. She just wants to have some fun.  He gets carded at the bowling all for a beer.  Tinsley is a great bowler. She is showing up her hot young boytoy. Chad lives on the Upper East Side. I have a feeling he lives with his parents. Tinsley is all over the kid in a very aggressive manner. I don’t think either one of them can bring people home.

This is an episode of pickups and hookups apparently. Ramona goes to a bar with a girlfriend and aggressively tries to pick up guys at a bar.  And my TV cuts out for another Amber Alert. It is the second one of the day. The person who reads these things is completely unintelligible and speaks incredibly slowly. I still don’t see how people watching TV are supposed to be looking out for a particular vehicle.

When the highjackers release my TV back to me, some man at the bar has sent a drink to Ramona. Ramona starts talking to the two women she came with about Tom. We made it half way through the show before someone started talking about Tom. Missy, one of the women out with Ramona, says she was dating Tom and she found out they were not together anymore when she walked into a bar where Tom and Luann were making out.

Meanwhile, Luann is planning her wedding.

Dorinda is doing a charity to benefit human trafficking prevention. It’s a silent auction. Carole brought some really good stuff for the auction. All the girls are there, even Bethenny.  Tinsley is still trying to figure out Bethenny.  I don’t see Ramona there anywhere. Oh here she comes making her grand entrance. Sonja and Ramona are disappointed in the lack of available men. Sonja always gives Tinsley the cold shoulder at events with the other girls. Because, jealous. There is a guy there that everyone thinks would be great for Sonja. She knows him and Bethenny and Carole think she should give him a chance. But before she can make her way over, Ramona moves in to cock block him. When the other girls call out a girl code violation, Ramona says she has known him for two years. Clearly there are a dozen age appropriate single men on the UES and Sonja and Ramona have run through them all.

Luann arrives on Tom’s arm. This will be awkward. Luann and Tom double kiss their way through the girls. Bethenny feels awkward. Luann thanks Bethenny for sticking up for her when Ramona made the horrible comment about people taking bets on whether or not she walks down the aisle. Bethenny immediately apologizes to Tom for any problems she caused him. I thought that was classy.

Dorinda is nervous because no one is bidding on the silent auction stuff. Normally people sneak in at the end to try to get the best deal.  Bethenny says that she and Carole are going to be charity whores who lure men to the auction to buy things. Guess what Bethenny brought to the auction? Come on, guess. Their plan it working.

Carole drags a woman named Barbara to the tables and she is being a bit cheap I suppose. TMZ ran an article today that said Barbara tried to block her conversations with Carole from airing. The only thing I can think of so far that is objectionable is that she doesn’t seem to want to bid too much.  Oh no, here it comes. Barbara is friends with Luann and is talking badly about Luann behind her back to Carole. She tells Carole she is going to Luann’s wedding.  Carole asks if she is excited about it and she says, “Honestly, no. She has something to prove. She would rather go through with it and get divorced call it off.”  Carole prods her even more. Clearly production has put Carole up to this. She asks Barbara about Tom.  Barbara says “Theres so many rumors that he hangs out at The Regency still and hooks up with other women. That’s pathetic.”  Carole asks if Luann knows that. Barbara said she told her. She could be making the biggest mistake of her life.” Barbara complain to the court that the camera’s were off her and she didn’t know Carole was wearing a microphone. The judge denied her motion. While all of this conversation was going on, the cameras were on Luann and Tom smiling and making out.

Carole says in confessional that if Luann is truly having second thoughts she needs to reconsider. Carole says that Luann is the great pretend who is never going to let them see her falter.

This was such a great so until the last few minutes. What does everyone have to trash talk Luann behind her back.

Next Week: Carole and Ramona besmirch Luann and Tom’s relationship even further. And it is the Berkshire’s part you do NOT want to miss. The other girls try to get Dorinda to tell Luann if she is having doubts she can call it off. But the real story, and I think the Berkshires goes for two episodes is how drunk and obnoxious Sonja and Ramona get.

I honestly think Carole could give two shits about “young and hip”, the woman is doing what makes her happy. a thirty something year old is just that, for right now. she’s not having delusions about making a family or even getting married, it doesn’t even seem she knows what they plan to do, they’re just happy together for right now.

that’s a lot more than most have at any age. I find nothing pathetic about a 50 something woman being happy and doing as she pleases. I have no idea what he does or does not pay, but she is relevant- for her former career and her family ties, not that I think she cares about it.

When you lose someone like that, petty things like “relevance” to total strangers don’t matter much.

Also, the ladies are mostly criticizing Luann for staying with a man who cheated and is suspected of continually cheating on her, even before their marriage.

I don’t see Adam doing that, so I’m not sure how it’s wrong for Carole to be wary of Tom while dating Adam, herself. I don’t see how the situations are comparable at all.

I agree with you Shae that the two relationships are not comparable. I believe Luann’s reaction last season and this season to quickly attack anyone who dares to speak truth about what they see is what is preventing the women from moving on.
I know for me, when I care about someone and think they’re headed toward disaster I try hard (frantically at times) to warn them. If it’s someone I don’t give a crap about then I let them go do whatever and I think that’s the point Luann missed. What Luann dismisses as jealousy of her relationship with Tom(which may be true in Sonja’s case) is really friends(well maybe not Bethenny) trying to make sure she sees the writing on the wall and is fine with it but instead Luann continues to pretend the writing is not there.

Debbie Betty Downer strikes again. Even just glimpsing her username brings me down with a dozen sad trombones going off.

And I’m pretty sure Carole is more relevant than everyone on this site, including you, and the entire state of Arkansas put together – she’s a single 50 year old woman whose written a book, had a long career, and is now a staple on a really successful TV show. Out of all the miserable tirades you could throw at someone, at least pick one that marginally makes sense?

Not like that really matters – how does one measure relevancy? Through Google searches? How does that in any way correlate with being happy and fulfilled?

Make that two books, and hundreds of articles for various publications. Carole is a talented writer who seems to have a pretty amazing life, despite losing her husband and dear friends so young.

Actually I am thrilled, THRILLED I tell you, to want to root for Carole this season. Seems as though she has regrouped and found her sea legs. She is not glued to Beth’s side all of the time and seems to be interacting more with the other cast mates. I used to love Carole, but the last couple of seasons she drained me.

I’m not keen to defend Carole; I don’t care enough. But in order to make my point, I may need to. Betty, you don’t seem to have anything to add to the conversation, but your bitterness must make an appearance so you will disparage anyone in order to wedge your misery in somehow. Please post a photo so the class can judge your appearance and the whether or not you qualify as a “rag” yourself.

I’d also suggest that no one person is qualified to determine “relevance,” as we all have differing viewpoints and ideas on what is personally engaging. However, I’ll hazard a guess that most of us would assign more cultural relevance to Carole Radziwill than any garden-variety member of a blog commentariat. She is accomplished in her own right as a news producer and writer, way before her marriage to the Kennedy-adjacent. To imply her worth in society is predicated on the social standing of a man is the least feminist thing I’ve seen all day, and I have been watching the national news.

Like Farrah says “We don’t do hate crimes”. Just because Carole is older doesn’t mean she can’t do what she wants. A 50 year old guy can date a 30 something and it’s normal. Just not 21 like Thomas Ravenel. But that is “ok”. Anyways let the woman live.

Putting myself in her shoes I guess there was a lot of drama with divorce but STILL, to slut shame Luann… no bueno. Tinsley grossed me out with the man boy make out, ugh. Those must have been Adams friends at the rock climbing event because I was racking my brain at when did Carole have a daughter??? What a weird group of people. Sonja needs to find an Anna Nicole age man and just marry his ass, I’m starting to tire of the eclectic hoarder with unsanitary living conditions.

Ramona is continuing down a weird path , I think she is in complete denial over how sad her divorce has left her and it’s making her behave even stranger. Let’s say it’s a lunch date with Carol, Ramona, Luann, (ANYONE) Carol walks in, Dorinda sings, “There she is!” Ramona walks in, “There? she ?is!” Luann walks in “There? she?is!” I don’t know why but it’s so annoying to me. Of course tonight she only did it once. Although she did sing “I don’t ? see a lot of people ? bidding!”
Everyone loves Dorinda so I’m probably the only one that noticed this about her but, she does stir up crap all the time too & seems to always get away with it…cause “she does it nice!”

I don’t know, to me, a lotta sad stuff in this episode. That open-mic bit with Barbara and Carole was a nasty play by Bravo. Of course Barbara signed a release to even be filmed but nevertheless, Bravo basically shamed Luann by airing it. They didn’t have to.

Carole talking on camera about her ambivalence about being with Adam, sad. Ramona running to intercept men, sad.

The fact that Bethenny has such control over who she films with, and when, is really starting to affect the show. I get why she’s pissed at Ramona but you shouldn’t be able to give a cast member the silent treatment and remain on the show. Her hiding in the car at the Hamptons party was ridiculous and now she is avoiding Ramona completely. I get why that makes sense in REAL life but it doesn’t work on reality tv. That’s why all the Housewives have blow-out fights at reunions and then pretend to make nice by next season. They have to bc they have to work with these people and film dinners, parties, trips, etc. We are also several episodes into the season and there has been limited interaction between Bethenny and Tinsley. I know that Bethenny doesn’t need the money like a lot of others but Bravo shouldn’t give her so much control. The whole dynamic of the show is off.

Bethenney used to be my fav but I went off her a long time ago when despite having everything she always wanted she was never happy. But it gets on my nerves when cast members who clearly don’t like each other invite each other on holiday or to lunch. If I don’t like someone I don’t hang around them and invite them to events. It’s stuff like that, that makes these shows so completely fake. I just don’t think she should be back. She wasn’t really friends with anyone and she’s not prepared to open her life up fully and give us the real tea. All she wants to do is post her products all over the place or plug her charity. No thanks.

Sigh. What exactly is an average marriage and why does Luann’s have to follow your criteria for what marriage should be. There are no small children involved in this marriage, there are two people in their fifties who want to be married. No one had a shotgun to the back of either of them and they seem very happy traveling the world.

I feel that I’m seeing the old Bethenny back this season and I’m enjoying it but that said I hope she either does not return next season or has more of a “friend of” capacity because even though I think she’s in a much better place this season it’s apparent that she’s tired of it.

I like Tinsley and the fun she’s bringing to the show. I also like how she’s not chasing Bethenny for friendship but just letting things happen organically while she bonds with the other women.

Sonja’s jealousy and pettiness with Tinsley is not a good look. I think Sonja has Tinsley’s in her daughter’s room for 2 reasons. 1 she’s too broke to heat that top floor where Luann stayed last season and 2. she wants to make sure Tinsley doesn’t pull a Luann and meet someone fabulous while living with Sonja.
I think with each episode it becomes more apparent Sonja’s gesture of inviting Tinsley to live w/her while transitioning back to NY is less to do with generosity and more to do with using Tinsley for guaranteed camera time.

I was embarrassed for Luann in this episode which was great until the last minutes. She must have really pissed off production because for the last 3 or so seasons it seems that production goes out of it’s way to try and embarrass Luann. Bravo is obviously pissed about not getting the rights to film Luann and Toms wedding.

It was clear to me last night that
      1) Ramona gets the bad edit this season and it is very well deserved. She comes across as lost and desperate.
      2) Bravo had Tinsley stay with Sonja-and Sonja is losing her ground and her character strengths by the minute. The Sonja who helped Kelly on Crazy Island in S 3 is long gone. This one tries to “set up a list” of dating rules for Tinsley? Are you kidding? And then lectures her based on them? It is all contrived and sad to me.
3)Tinsley is a good addition, in age, character, and personality. She handles it all with grace and some deftness. Even Sonja’s mishandling reflects well on her.
      4) I’m not at all surprised about Barbara’s comments. But am sad that they are obviously true.

      5) To me, the night was about vulnerability- every single woman on the show was vulnerable, in one way or another. Their methods of handling the vulnerability says a good deal about each of them.

      More in a bit.

I agree and that is why I like this show because it’s one of the few RH shows where we see real feelings and vulnerability.
I’ve never cared for Ramona and since her divorce she is worse. A few seasons ago she was throwing her “happy” marriage and family in Luann’s face while Luann was going through her divorce and though Ramona will never admit it , those words have to be haunting her now.

I was hoping some of Tinsley’s positive energy could rub off on Sonja because I miss the Sonja from S3 but she’s gone forever because Sonja doesn’t seem able and or willing to live in reality and her attempt to coach Tinsley about dating is pure comedy.

As for Barbara’s comments, I too am sad that they appear to be true and I doubt Luann will get the 16 or so years out of this marriage that she got out of her 1st. marriage

I have never had a problem with Carole dating Adam, yes there’s an age difference but he’s in his 30’s & an adult. Plus they sort of look alike & she comes across as much younger than her age and youthful so I get the attraction but last night’s scene where they rock climbed w/ the other young couple did it for me – Carole REALLY looked like his mom/older aunt! Her posture as she flailed off the wall, her teeth yellowing, & the close ups of her juxtaposed w/ the pretty young girl – gah, she looked so frail & old! I think production must really hate her or want to play up the age gap more with the way they shot her. Anyway, it bothered me for her and I don’t even like her.

Oh gosh reading your words made sad because it’s true. It was weird how Carol seemed so out of place with the young woman at the rock wall. Sometimes she looks hip & trendy, not that night.

I have to agree with Barbara. I have always thought that Luann would go through with the wedding if nothing else to save face. But, I also think that Luann is the type that cannot be without a man. A few months ago, I caught a rerun of a Bravo show that just focused on Luann. While highlighting her life, it also covered her romantic life as well. She tends to not move on from a man until another one is locked down in place. She seems to not have an issue with open relationships, as long as it ensures her social status.

I saw that show! Wasn’t Luann gorgeous when she was younger? She’s pretty now, but she was stunning & wore very little makeup.

When Ramona was attempting to order that drink with Tinsley, I literally wanted to punch her in the fucking face. There is no one more insufferable than her in all of Manhattan, I’m sure.

I started laughing. I was imagining one of those cartoon “thought clouds” above the waiters head full of asterisks; question marks and exclamation points.

Luann is like a monkey swinging in a jungle…she doesn’t let go of one man vine until she’s tightly gripping another. I did feel bad for her last night though. How humiliating for her to watch that back but she was sure chirpy today on Instagram so it didn’t seem to bother her.
I like Tinsley but she came off poorly by shoving her tongue down the throat twice of her clearly uncomfortable date.
I am Sonja and Ramona’s age and I have had my share of cringe-worthy newly single dating moments, but that was just embarrassing to watch. They reek of desperation and seem to cock block Tinsley every chance they can get.

Sounds like way too much Ramona this episode. I think Barbara may be right about Lu, even if Lu isn’t completely aware of that. But they still shouldn’t STILL be talking about it.

I had ignorantly thought that we would pick up this season after Lu’s wedding. Having all of the girls making snide and nasty remarks about Lu and Tom just ages everyone. Lu met a guy, she is in love, got married, and is happy. I do not care what others think, I know that Mona and Sonja are extremely envious, as they can’t let go of the fact that Lu has balls. It has very little to do with Tom, actually. Lu is confident and self aware. She is her own woman and makesnher ownnchoices. She plans out her life and meets her goals. She is a survivor, smart and charming along the way. She claimed her man, and I am proud of her because of it. She wants to be on a yacht instead of Beautique. She has been there, done that. Can you blame her?

There is an old episode of Dr. Phil with Tinsley, her “mummy” and her younger sister. Y’all should watch part or all of it. Very interesting. I think she was with the man that she got arrested for stalking but her mother was very opposed to it.
    I love Bethenny. That’s all.

If it is the same Dr. Phil I saw it was from the time of her previous reality show. The Dr Phil show was nothing more than an ad for that show and the whole thing was about her mother showing up at all of the dates and events. That entire situation was contrived to match the storyline of the “not really reality” show.

I had to go back and check but if you listen to the voices: CAROLE says “Theres so many rumors that he hangs out at The Regency still and hooks up with other women.” Barbara then says “That’s pathetic.” I think it’s sneaky of Carole.
