60 Days In: High Times

Michelle does a line

Things are going down in the Fulton County Jail that we did not see happen in first two seasons. Some of the participants are using drugs. Tonight, it appears that Matt is the next to get high while in the jail.

South Annex

Michelle

In keeping with tonight’s drug theme, the women in South Annex are using again. Specifically the ones in Michelle’s cell. Michelle has used twice already. The first time it was a placebo, the second time it was real. Will there be a third time?   Actually, this is a replay of last week when she did a line of some sort of random opiates.

Michelle gets a visit with her daughter. They are very close. Michelle lies about the drugs in prison. When she goes back to her cell, she drinks from the cup her bunkies are passing around that is full of random prescription meds.

Colonel Mark wants another drug raid. As if. I have no faith in these people to catch anything.

Mauri

Mauri

It is almost time for Mauri to leave. She has made friends with her cellmate, Chocolate. She is trying to help her get her GED. Chocolate gets released. She was Mauri’s success story that reinforced with her she is on the right career path.

600 Zone

Last week, Colonel Mark swapped out Calvin and Don in what I think was a really ridiculous move. Calvin is now in 600. Calvin says he is happier in 600. Despite losing his friends in the program, there are a lot less gang members and they watch a lot of football in the 600.  I just hope he stands up for himself a bit more here.

Oh Lord, New Jon Thomas (NJT) is his cell mate. Last week, New Jon Thomas stole our Jon Thomas’ meds. I do not understand putting two people with the same name in the same unit. NJT is already eyeballing Calvin’s tablet that can play music.

NJT gets mouthy with the Pod Boss, Sims after Sims tells him repeatedly to close his door so the TV could come on and he doesn’t pay any attention. Sims walks over and slams NJT’s cell door. NJT’s backtalk causes Sims to get into fight mode. Our Jon wants to disassociate himself from NJT because he is being blamed by Sims for a NJT’s stupidity.

Calvin has been letting NJT use his tablet to make phone calls. The tablet costs Calvin $20 a month plus additional charges for phone time. NJT uses the table in the cell when Calvin is out for morning recess.

Jon and Calvin meet and he realizes right away that NJT is taking advantage of Calvin, and that his cover story makes no sense. He identifies him as someone in the program.

Later NJT calls Jon to his cell door (via Calvin) and tries to make some sort of trade with him Jon tells him he is done with him because he is dragging him into all his bullshit. #InmateBreakups

500 Zone

Don has been moved into the 500 zone with the majority of the male participants and all the bloods. Don only has ten or eleven days left. Don has stopped coming out during the morning recess and just tries to sleep until the afternoon recess. He seems very depressed.

Matt and his cellmate, Bernard are getting along really well. Bernard has acquired a joint. He plans to share it with Matt. First he needs to get a lighter. He makes a deal with the trustee to come by in the wee hours and light a toilet paper wick and slip it to Bernard under the door. We quickly learn how to contain the smoke through the toilet drain and get high without being caught. They were both high as hell and just laughing and giggling and fist pounding each other.

Crap! We just got a tornado warning interrupting the show. This is not good. It is not in my county so I am back to the stuff that is not good on this episode. The joint. A bunch of guards come through on their normal walk. The smell the pot outside of Matt’s cell. The shine a flashlight in there and don’t see anything but sleeping prisoners and leave without doing anything. For now.

An hour later they are out on morning recess. Matt and Bernard have the munchies. Matt makes himself a potato chip sandwich. He is fine with what he did. The Colonel wanted him to find out how drugs get in the jail. Now he knows.

Nate continues to maintain a close relationship with the bloods. This is based primarily on the fact that he is good a basketball. Nate has also been teaching the inmates hand to hand combat techniques he learned in the Marines. Really Nate?

Nate also seems concerned that the guys, particularly Desmond his cellmate, will not like him anymore once they find out he is an informant. Really Nate?

Next week: There is a two-hour finale. (This may cause a long delay in the recap due to the tight schedule of programming) The raid on the women’s unit happens and pills are found in Michelle’s pod. Not sure whose bed they found them in. In 500 Too Tall gets into some trouble and is removed. Bernard tells Matt that he heard he is an FBI informant. Also, I believe in the early promos we were told that one guy volunteers to stay for Phase Two and do another 60 days. Who do you think that is?Mauri intervenes on a fight on South Annex.

Michelle’s daughter is beautiful, the episode was pretty blah. I really like Nate he seems like a stand up guy and out of all of the participants he seemed to get through the program and still remain his true self. I think he may stay another 60 days.

I think Nate will stay longer. He seems to be adjusting well. I love Matt. I want to be his friend in real life.

I like Matt too! I was dying laughing when he was so high and he was asking his cellmate what it would be like if they were walking through a forest or something and they saw a pumpkin patch hahahaha!! And Nate is so cute but it really concerns me that he is teaching inmates hand to hand combat.

I didn’t understand why closing the door was such a big deal but then later on when it was explained I got it. NJT was being an ass. I was impressed with OJT (original Jon Thomas) for distancing himself from his new buddy.

Found it a little odd that Nate was demonstrating submission holds to the inmates.

Poor Donny…. Good thing he’s getting out next week.

Jon Thomas 2 was on the commercials for this season before it began. I’ve been waiting for him to show up.

Michelle’s use surprised me. I felt the “cover story” was a convenient excuse, but I’m from Ohio where we have an opioid epidemic.

I actually went to high school with the real Jon Thomas (I didn’t know him personally though, we ran in vastly different crowds). When I saw him on the first episode I was impressed. I thought he was a participant in the show. Man did my hometown pride diminish rather quickly.
