Imposters: Ladies And Gentleman, The Doctor Is In!

Ezra’s philosophical ponders at the beginning of the show were so good that I either need to take some time later on to transcribe them or hopefully find them already on the Internet. It that was work original to the writers, hats off for that monologue. By the way, one of the writers retweeted me the other day and may have even followed, I forget.  That’s right up there with the hot Jeopardy! winner that followed me there other day. #PseudoIntellectualBoners

Anyway, enough about my weird attractions to random Twitter accounts. Things have gone to hell in a handbasket in Seattle. Ezra is in FBI custody getting drilled by Patrick, and not in a good way. Patrick’s cover has been completely blown and everything now depends on Maddie, a consummate liar. Jules is desperate for a sexual outlet to deal with it all. The only people holding up fairly well are Richard and Max who have developed some sort of bromance born of a violent altercation.

Maybe we should scratch that last part. Max calls Maddie to say he is fighting off an aneurysm because Richard is late for the wedding rehearsal which is…tomorrow? So what’s the damn rush? Somehow in all of this, Maddie has been promoted to the leader of this tribe of fools.

Richard must have left his football with Max so that means the only way he has to distract himself is to pick up chicks in bars. Which he apparently did the previous night. My first question is, Who is she working for?” Maddie shows up to throw the girl out of Richard’s hotel room and send him back to his bromance. Problem solved. For now.

I’m watching Ezra very closely during his little chat with Patrick.  I find it very interesting that he tells Patrick that Maddie told him it was real with her. If he is really working with Maddie this would be a great way to keep Patrick in line. The writing wants us to believe that Erza has skin in the game. But the crazy fake suicide stuff in the first episode when he was all alone doesn’t fit in with him being a fake mark to infiltrate the real ones. I’m stuck on the fake, yet funny suicide routine that was not for anyone else’s benefit. Ezra goads Patrick trying to get him to admit he loves her. Why? Apparently in order to get Patrick to trust Maddie and go to bat for her plan with Auntie FBI. And it works because he goes straight to her office.  I’m telling you, we need to watch out for sweet kind Ezra. He’s not as dumb as the other two. In fact, he’s not dumb at all. All that money Maddie took from him? It was probably loans from the company and his father.

So Patrick gets his deal accepted by Auntie FBI, it looks like immunity for Maddie and Ezra. Auntie FBI asks about Jules. Patrick and FBI sister think she is not involved. Auntie says to get eyes on her to confirm that. Here’s the thing, no where in all of these deal do they even mention Patrick or Max. Why? Auntie wants evidence, hard evidence that the doctor will show before she allocates the half a million to the case. She also cautions Patrick to keep his head on straight and his heart out of the investigation.

Patrick brings in some gruesome photos of bodies the doctor has left in his wake. He tells Ezra he could be next, Maddie will be next if they don’t get the doctor before the doctor gets Maddie. Ezra seems very concerned about this. His first reaction was he didn’t believe what Patrick was saying about the doctor. That seemed odd to me. The TOV are supposed to be terrified of this entire situation. Why would Erza minimize the doctor’s evil ways?

Ezra agrees to “save Maddie” and his first job is to find Maddie’s burner phone and stick a chip in it that turns it into a microphone.

Jules is being stalked by the FBI sister. I think it is the FBI sister, you know how I am with faces out of context. Anyway, Jules knows the sister is FBI. Does the FBI know that the entire TOV knows they are FBI or do they just think it is Maddie and Ezra who know? The FBI sister is in the art shop looking for scrapbooking stuff to make a book for Patrick for the wedding but she is artistically challenged so naturally Jules will help her out. Way to easy, but Jules isn’t exactly a neurosurgeon, and even if she were we have learned lately that they can be idiot savants.

Maddie meets with Patrick to sign off on the deal. And she is still playing him making him think she was serious about him. I am now convinced she is working with Ezra and Ezra only. Max is completely expendable. So are Richard and Jules.

FBI sister takes Jules to lunch and when she is asked if she is married, she say, “No, I haven’t found the right woman yet.”  Jules who is supposed to be Ezra’s girl friend, pipes up with the information FBI sister already knows, that she had a relationship with a woman once. This leads to a whole unburdening by Jules about her relationship with Maddie/Cici.

Ezra goes to Maddie’s apartment to search for her burner phone. If they were working together would he know where to find it? Is my new theory on the two of them completely off base? He manages to get the microchip into the phone (located in a vase of potpourri) in the nick of time before she walks in. He’s on the couch as if he has been waiting for her patiently. She’s surprised to see him. He says, “We need to talk”

Now I’m confused. She’s all what are you doing here? He talking about closure and how did she turn into whatever she. She spins a tale about being adopted and hanging out in the mall wishing for different parents. So either she knows they are bugged and she’s playing along with him, or I wrong about them. Probably the latter, but I hate being wrong so I am still trying to make my theory fit the situation.

Ezra calls bullshit. LOL. She gives several alternate stories all bullshit. Then she tells him not to try to know him. When he was searching her house for the phone, he found an anklet he had given her. The on that Patrick took off of her when they hooked up. She told Patrick should couldn’t get the clasp to open. he asked why she kept it if it didn’t mean anything. She says it did mean something. And then I met someone and he took it off and that meant something too. Ah, okay now there is a reason for this story. They are pulling Patrick in with constant reinforcement that he was the one she really loved. This is pretty much chapter one of the cheaters handbook, and yet it works fairly well every time. Ezra drops the anklet into a saucer or something that made a loud noise and leaves.  It’s working on Patrick who has been listening to the whole dramatic rendition.

When FBI sister takes Jules back to her hotel, Jules uses the tried and true pick-up line, “Would you like to come in and see my artwork?”  And they are making out before the sheet is off the werid and fugly box she made to swap out the suitcase full of money.

According to my theory, that I am back to believing in, Jules knows that the phone is tapped. So she now calls Max who has no idea he is not going to benefit from anything, to get him to say she is not sure they can trust Ezra, he’s being all jumpy. This makes Patrick think Ezra is nervous and freaking out as he should be in Patrick’s mind. And also it gives Patrick the hard evidence he needs to give Auntie FBI that the doctor is coming. She asks Matt what to do about Ezra. He says to do what she always does and manage him, let the FBI have him, whatever. She says good, it’s time to put him behind her.

Our image goes to the FBI headquarters where Ezra is listening in right across from Patrick while he listens. Now Ezra just has to play the part for Patrick a bit more. Through him off the trail that he is really working with Maddie. Remember what a good acting job Ezra did at the restaurant where he played drunk?

It’s time for a rehearsal dinner. I apologize for not recapping all of the humorous parts of this episode. Y’all might have noticed I’ve become sort of obsessed with figuring out the major plot line. Jules is hilarious thought and Ezra is playing the part of the brother to the real priest at the same time he is playing the scorned lover for the FBI. The priest says it is great that Maddie has her brother there for her special day. He snarks back, “She’s had a lot of special days.”

I should clarify about the priest. He is real according to Patrick. Patrick is also sure that Maddie is really into him. The priest is kind of quirky and is asking a lot of questions under the guise of making the ceremony as personal as possible. Ah, he probably is a priest. The point of this scene is to have a funny back and forth between the two with lots of innuendo tossed back and forth.

Maddie says they met when he stalked her at a coffee shop. He says he heard of her through mutual friends and he arranged to bump into her and she turned out to be more unreal than he could ever have imagined.

The priest says, “So you two were set up!”

Maddie replies, “Well, at least one of us was.”  Bah dum, dum. Then, she excuses herself to take a call.

She’s returning Richard’s call. He’s called her six time since she’s been at the rehearsal dinner. He’s with Max trying to learn how to break into cars faster.  For some reason they are working on old cars. I used to be really good with a Slim Jim. I can’t remember where I was living when I used to substitute teach for a bit at a alternative school that was really rough. I managed to lock my keys in the car there at least twice and they had a slim jim they had taken from a kid. I used it to pop the lock. Then later anytime someone I knew locked their keys in the car, I could pop a lock with a coat hanger. It’s one of my hidden talents. I missed my calling as a car thief.  It’s all about choices in life. Perhaps my choices lead me farther away from my true car thieving self. It’s too late now. They started putting a metal plate thingy in the car doors so you can’t pop the locks anymore.

Anyway. Richard has been calling Maddie repeatedly but when she calls him back he says nothing is up and everything is fine. Because, Richard.  Then he tells her that he has been thinking about what she told him earlier about not being in love with her but being in love with who he was when he was with her. He says he talked all over with Max and he made him understand he could be that person without her. Then he tells her that Max told him about a relationship he had. He basically tells her the story of Sally and how at the end he had to give her up. So it becomes clear to Maddie that Sally is dead.  I can’t remember what Maddie thought happened to Sally up until this point. Can someone remind me?

At the rehearsal dinner Jules and FBI sis steal glances of each other from across the room. When Ezra notices she is off someplace else he asks what is going on with her and she tells him that she slept with Gina. Oh so Jules knows she is FBI. She asks Ezra if it is now a pattern of her sleeping with women who aren’t who they say they are. He says yes.

We haven’t had much music this episode other than the background stuff that I noticed a lot because it was written especially for the show by these two cool people that I read about when I was reading way to much into the music. Is there something wrong with me?  I mean about that specific weird thing, not in addition to all the other weird things y’all know about me. I mean am I weirdly obsessed with this show or experiencing some sort of idiosyncratic dementia?  Don’t answer that.

They are playing one of my all time favorite songs. Nina Simone’s Feelin’ Good.

Birds in the sky! You know how I feel!
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day…
And I’m feeling good.

This would be good music to screw Patrick to. I’m just sayin… I’m quite distracted by it. But Maddie is giving a poor pitiful me routine to Patrick. Patrick falls for it hard, like a shot duck falls out of the sky. He asks her to stay the night for old times sake. She reminds him it is bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding and leaves him alone with me and Nina.

AND I WAS RIGHT! Maddie goes straight to Ezra and they congratulate each other on fooling everyone.

The doctor calls Max. Max says everything is on schedule. The wedding is set to go off tomorrow.

Maddie and Ezra head off to pick up Richard and Jules.  They get to the boat while Max is still talking to the doctor some how.  Maddie says, “Ladies and Gentleman, the doctor is in.”

I’m kind of confused again. Max was talking on the phone with the doctor with a mustache and a beard. Then he showed up in the part of the boat where the others were with a shaved head and face, like the doctor. Is Max pretending to be the doctor? Are they all going to bail together with the money? Will Maddie leave Max behind to get caught because she knows he can’t be trusted now for not telling her about Sally?

The show ended a few seconds early for me. They were showing next week and the voice over said, if you think you are in on the con… End of damn recording. But apparently the gist is I can stop patting myself on the back for figuring out that Ezra and Maddie have been working together all along. Because another huge twist is coming.

Dammit.

I love this show.

Okay, I just watched the very end again. It was taking me so long to recap by the end I was just braindead and wanted to get the post up.

I get it now. Max told the doctor that things were going according to plan just the same old mark as any other. The doctor was not told the story about Heller having another $500K of his money he is not coming to pick it up. Max is going to play the doctor.

So are they ALL in on it? If that is true, all we need for a season two is for them to get away with it. Then the cast can stay the same and the FBI can just chase them.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THE POINT OF EZRA GOING HOME?

I have more questions but I need to check on a pregant giraffe and then go to bed.

Maybe the point of Ezra going home is to see how devious and manipulative his family really are. The parents are running from something and want to give Ezra a sense of purpose to stay and forget his revenge on Maddie. Remember, Ezra showed his dad what they had on him regarding cheating.

My theory is that Ezra’s dad was having an affair with The Doctor’s wife. On episode #8 we see The Doctor with a wedding ring and talking to his child who is upstairs and just out of sight except the shadow. It’s unclear if it’s a girl or boy but I guess it’s a boy due to the toy cars and non-feminine stuffed animals.

I guessed that something was off with Patrick and that he had some angle on Maddie. Also, Auntie was very cold and suspicious the first time she met Maddie but had warmed up 100% the next time. They tried to act like it was because they were so happy to meet Maddie’s “brother”.

I’m baffled about why the FBI trio talk about how they believe Jules is just a civilian but there was an early romance vibe and then a hookup this episode.

I think Maddie is setting up Max to take the fall, due to his betrayal of Sally. There is no money in the “present” because it will be replaced with fake money and Max will be arrested while the others escape. They will find some scam to work together next season. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t renewed.

The only reason I know about this show is because I liked Ray Proscia on The Man in the High Castle and followed him on twitter and he mentioned Imposters. He seems really nice and replied to me once as did Rob Heaps. Rob has a PBS show called Home Fires that’s available on Netflix for the first season. Season two just started on PBS. I’ll be watching that soon!

I’ve been enjoying your recaps and will have to look for you on twitter.

I am so totally loving this show, too. When they were doing all those promos before it started I wasn’t interested at all…then I watched the first three episodes because nothing else was on and I am HOOKED. I’m also worried…seems every time I like a new really good show, it gets cancelled. Have to admit I’m a bit confused, too, but in a good way because everything seems so layered and full of possibilities to twist every which way.

Does anyone know why the “sister” FBI agent had sex with Jules? Does the FBI agent know that Jules was married to Maddie? Did I miss that? What is that angle?

Just a horny lesbian thing taking the assignment too far? In my experience gay women respond much better to batshit crazy women than me do….She was supposed to keep eyes on her and took it very seriously? LOL. I dunno it we are missing something there, or if it was just gratuitous sex.

I find myself asking bad writing? or important clue? a lot this season.

Thank you for recap. I was a little confused. Need to rewatch episode with your insight.
        Random thoughts/questions:
        – Richard somehow different than the other imposters- seemed like max was keeping an eye on him (or vice versa?) while others planning how to outrun the Feds.
        – last episode or one before when max was talking to group – all were intent on his words except Richard seemed checked out.. Is he a fed? Which doesn’t make sense since he followed Patrick to headquarters.. But I don’t know there’s something with him…maybe Hes not as dumb as we think?

        – think Jules is with Ezra and maddie

        – when Ezra looking through dead pics Patrick gave him- one looked like it could’ve been Sally. It was Back of head so ambiguous but could have been

        – agree- what’s with Ezra’s family?? Why are his dad and mom fleeing?

I believe it was Sally too and paused to look. But I so want her to be alive, I still have hope. I didn’t think Lenny Cohen would leave a body to be found. Maybe Sally is working for the Feds too? I recorded all episodes and I’m going to watch them (with closed captioning!) before the finale. I just love this show! And maybe too much time on my hands :). I don’t think all will become clear next week, I think there will be a great big cliffhanger, at least I hope so since that might mean a second season. There are too many loose ends to tie up in one show so I’m pulling for a second season!

Could Ezra’s dad be The Dr.? That’s why we know more about Ezra’s family than the others. And the kid shown in the one clip from a few weeks back when The Dr. was on the phone with Max is a product of the dad’s affair.

Hi, thanks for the great recap. Quick question…. On the music. You mentioned the Nina Simone song, Feelin’ Good. But before that come on, there was a French song in the background at the rehearsal dinner. Do you know what that was? Does anyone? Would love to know.

I’m really struggling with the lyrics. All I’m coming up with is “l’amour” “je ____” “le temps?” and a smattering of French syllabus that I’m probably misspelling. Not really enough to google successfully, and Shazam didn’t help. Though it sounds like a real song, just too much noise for Shazam to work.

I am not aware of this news. I find it deeply upsetting. I doubt any of these people expected a successful run on Bravo. In fact, there aren’t a lot of us that had the pleasure of this season. Perhaps the second season if we get one will work around her schedule.

I hope the show has a second season but my paranoia further develops because Andy never mentions it on WWHL. Which completely baffles me! Or have I missed it? I saw that Inbar was promoting the show on Steve Harvey but I can’t recall the cast on WWHL. Andy certainly hasn’t brought it up the past few weeks which is super strange to me. He even had the cast from Summer House or would mention that waste of airtime.

Imposters is such a good show and improves our cognitive ability. Fingers crossed for a second season. But if Inbar gets killed off (which I highly doubt) at least she has another gig.

Random observations here. When the doctor was on the phone with Max,his monitors showed different scenes of people being kept an eye on. There was one of Maddie sitting in a booth at the diner where TOV surprised her. There were pictures of Max & Sally sitting outside on the boat. So obviously the Dr is keeping an eye on them. On the screen to the far left was an Asian woman at a desk and another of 2 Asian men walking. Don’t know if that’s a clue. I think showing us the Dr face is to throw us off.
Did anyone notice Max’s voice was cocky while talking with the Dr. The other times he spoke with him he was very serious.
Last thing, when Maddie appears to be talking to someone in person says “Everyone gets tricked at some point…” I think that’s the video she makes for her marks to watch. The million dollar question is who’s the person watching?

At one point I also thought maybe Patrick and max were together by the reaction they had when they first met.

I thinks Sally is alive because all of the “doctor’s” dead victims when pictures were shown to Ezra were of them just having them been killed blood coming from the head and when Sally was taken by Uma Thurman she opened the trunk for Sally to put her bags in and there were trash bags obviously full of dismembered bodys (remember the tools Uma had in her case to dismember the last guy that was killed) so I think Max “thinks” Alice is dead but I also wonder how did the FBI get the pictures of the dead victims if Uma standardly cuts them up before the FBI can even get to the dead mark? Can anyone understand what I’m trying to say? LOL

I’m still obsessed with this show! It might be the only Bravo show I’ll continue to watch. I haven’t even watched RHONY yet because I’m debating if I can tolerate getting sucked into another season of the franchise in general. Given the latest news regarding Southern charm, I’m out on that too. I can’t wait until next weeks Imposters and pray it gets a second season. At least this show makes me use my brain and could talk about each episode all week in between episodes trying to figure it all out. I had a feeling Ezra was more than just another mark, and his family is into some shady shit. I’m wondering what the actual history with Maddie and the doctor is as well as Ezra’s. So many possibilities, so little time! Lol! SEASON TWO PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!

I’m actually dreading the finale. Because no more. I love how we talk about it the whole week and everyone’s got great points and observations. Plus, TT you go over and above bringing us new info through your research. Please let it be renewed for a 16 episode second season.

Feeling Good – is that rendition sung by Nina Simone. Sounds like a different vocalist. Amazing btw.
