Real Housewives of Atlanta: Baby Nups and Breakups

March 26, 2017 by tamaratattles 83 Comments

I feel like tonight’s show is going to be wrapping up a couple of fake storylines. Porsha’s fake relationship, and Phaedra’s fake storyline she cooked up with Phaedra’s ex-employee.  Then we will have Kenya and her push/pull romance with the raging lunatic. The last five or six times I’ve posted about Matt, it has been because of concerns about his mental state. I’m truly worried for Kenya. This episode might set him off even further.

Cynthia

Oh I forgot about Cynthia. Bless her heart, she has a good storyline tonight even if it is an promotion for her business, that is her real life so you go girl. She’s getting Noelle ready to model her Cargo bags. I love her cargo bags by the way, but I am covered all the way when it comes to luggage and hers are a bit over priced. Like her sunglasses. Sheree came in with Kairo to rehearse for his first runway show. Kairo can’t walk. All Sheree wants to ask tons of questions about press and compensation. The compensation is the experience and the opportunity. And a very expensive backpack because Cynthia is being very kind. Sheree wants Kairo and Noelle to exchange numbers so she can help him with his walk. Cynthia is not happy about that. She doesn’t want Noelle getting too tight with Kairo.

Sidenote: This episode already feels like slapping together a bunch of stuff out of order to get it all in.

Later, Phaedra shows up to Lake Bailey in jeans and on one piece swimsuit with very high cut legs. I thought Shun was tryna help this woman dress? Everytime she has a scene her cul de sac fills up like she’s throwing a house party according to neighbors. All of that disruption and this is how she looks? They go downstairs to a beautiful room with a beautiful white couch that I noticed immediately because I’m currently looking to replace mine. Cynthia says she bought it from Kenya. Phaedra says in a talking head that she should not have done that because Matt may have a tracking device in the pillow and show up looking for his lovebug. It was a pretty stupid joke at the time, but these days, I wouldn’t put anything past him.

Cynthia wants to get to the bottom of why Phaedra did such a u-turn on her relationship with Kenya. I am not sure that really is a swimsuit. It has sleeves. Whatever it is, it’s THOTwear unbecoming of a good Christian mother in her 40s.  Cynthia lets it slip that Porsha told everyone her divorce was final. Phaedra says she is divorce. Phaedra calls Kenya evil. Because Phaedra is one of the good people, y’all. Don’t get me started on people who point fingers at others calling them evil.

Porsha

Porsha tells Phaedra she is writing a “baby-nup.” Phaedra tries to dissuade Porsha from having a baby at all. She thinks she needs to get married first. Then she hangs up on her. I took a coffee break during all the baby nup crap. I’m really sleepy.

Kenya

Che, Kenya’s cousin, comes over to visit Kenya. Kenya needs a listening ear to hear about the divorce party disaster.  Kenya is still wishy washy about Matt. She seems unwilling to never speak to him again. She has GOT to draw the damn line. Nothing good comes from being friends with exes, especially abusive ones. You have to let go before you can move on.

Kandi

Kandi stops by Mama Joyce’s house where the OLG is there cooking. The OLG seems to be feeling some kinda way that Bravo would not let them go to Maui.  But Mama Joyce wants to get right on Phaedra, so she asks how that divorce is coming along. I used to hate Mama Joyce but now she’s my favorite person on this whole franchise.  Kandi tells her mama that Porsha let it slip that Phaedra is already divorced. Mama Joyce must read here because she asked Kandi if Apollo mentioned anything about being divorced. Mama Joyce knows better. Dinner looks amazing despite the tin foil baking pans. #HugePetPeeve

Kandi is planning an open house for the OLG Restaurant for friends and family. And unbeknowst to her, Apollo’s latest side piece.

Kenya’s reaction to Kairo’s runway debut.

The Cargo Fashion Show

Kairo is late for his wardrobe and makeup check because he had to wait for his mommy. Seriously? Cynthia has selected a grunge vibe for her location, it’s in an underground warehouse sort of space. Very urban. When Sheree wandered into the backstage area and greets Cynthia she says that when she walked in she heard water above, like there is sewage on top. I don’t think this momager situation is going to be her thing. Kairo would have been fired at least twice so far. Frick and Frack are not going to make it. Cynthias event coordinator approaches Sheree and asks if she like the location. She says “it’s different, where’s the air though?”  He replies that she’s fanning herself that’s the air. Then he points out that her client was very late to wardrobe. She lies about when he arrived . When he walks off she acts like HE was coming for her. She says he chose the wrong momager for that. She is so clueless. So very clueless. Kairo will never have any success if she insists on being attached to it. Ain’t nobody got time for her.

Kenya arrives in a white lace jumpsuit. She acts like she had no idea where filming was happening. Why the hell is she wearing that? She is unhappy with the venue as well. Kandi comes in with Riley and she loves the place.  Bob is there and he is sweating more than usual.

Noelle did great on the runway. Kairo cannot walk. Did I mention that? He gets a big reaction for being shirtless. No one noticed his bag. Especially not Kenya. After the show Noelle says to Cynthia, “Thank you so much for the opportunity, I had an amazing time.” Because she’s a well-mannered professional. We didn’t see Kairo or Sheree thank Cynthia for the opportunity. They must have cut that part out. Or something.

Johnnie Winston, hired by Phaedra to play a disgruntled employee.

Phaedra

Phaedra has asked her attorney friend to play along in this scene as these three join together to disrespect Kandi in this scene, as the good people are wont to do. Phaedra even greets Johnnie by calling him a “good ole country boy.” This is why she must help him over come the evil Kandi Burruss. In her confessional, Phaedra says she has no issues with Kandi. Sometimes I long for the Old Testament days when lies like that would have God SMITE you down.  She says that because Johnnie sought out her advice, part of the oath that she took when she became an attorney was that it is up to her to make sure he gets placed in the right hands.  That too is a lie.

Here is the oath that she took, “I, Phaedra Parks, swear that I will truly and honestly, justly and uprightly conduct myself as a member of this learned profession and in accordance with the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct, as an attorney and counselor, and that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Georgia. So help me God.”

Nothing in there about colluding with your ex-besties former employee to be sure that he gets on TV to trash talk her nor any obligation whatsoever to be helpful in his quest to file suit against your former bestie. Nope. Nary a word. She might should have revisited the oath before she filed those divorce papers though.  Dear God, this idiot is saying that it was his idea to do a restaurant. He claims that he came up with the concept for the OLG Restaurant. This kids is stupid. He also says her play, A Mother’s Love, ABOUT KANDI’S LIFE was his idea they stole from him as well. How the hell this kid gonna open a restaurant with Kandi’s family and put on a play about Kandi’s life? In addition to Phaedra and Johnnie looking like fools, poor ole Oscar is becoming collateral damage himself.

Kenya

It is Kenya’s dog, King’s birthday, and she is off to a high end dog accessory store to buy him a present. I could have sworn Twirl was from the same litter. How is it not her birthday as well? Matt shows up with flowers for Kenya. Kenya used the dog’s birthday as an excuse for him to film. Oh Kenya.

To be fair, this seems to have been filmed out of order. Kenya brings up his conversation with Cynthia which was weeks ago. Matt starts in on Kenya asking her about her part in the downfall of the relationship and wonders why it is always about him. She excuses herself and goes to the hallway where production is to speak with them, presumably about Matt being off script. She was planning a scene where they agreed to move on and be friend and he wants to call her out. She’s not having it. So they end up in a hallway where Matt starts screaming, “Let me point out some of your faults!” Kenya says, “Do you see how you are always acting like you don’t have control over yourself. I can’t with you because it’s always THIS! Everyone tries to talk to you and you always do this. You ruin everything that’s good.”

Matt says that Kenya ruined everything. Kenya says she was there for him and did nothing to him that could have permanently changed his life including sending him to jail for his behavior. Maybe not but that is what Peter is planning to do now.   Matt says he will be in jail and Kenya will be single and miserable so they are even. He just wants her to apologize to him. Kenya asks if before she met him was she single and miserable? Or does he think another motherfucker will come through the door? Matt says, “Didn’t we have sex in my truck the other night because you wanted to?” Ah… the discomforts of dating a homeless guy.

Matt breaks down crying. Oldest trick in the abuser book. Moments earlier he was raging in her face, and now he has drawn her right back in. Kenya makes him look at her and she says (probably for the millionth time) that she is sorry she hurt him, but she can’t do this anymore. Matt is crying because she said she was open to someone else coming into her life. He’s angry again. He tells her to go get whoever she needs to get to make her whole because he is not the guy.

In the final scene with have a confessional audio over Kenya walking away. “This is a toxic relationship and I need to grow and move on.  Part of that growth is knowing that I need to just walk away.”

Except she doesn’t. She takes him to Sheree’s housewarming party.

Next week: Frick and Frack celebrate Phaedra’s birthday. Apollo calls Todd and Peter and tells them that when Phaedra was recently up there to visit him, she told him that everything was put on hold and nothing was happening with the divorce. Shereen, Apollo’s finance shows up at the friends and family party at the OLG restaurant. Which one is she, friend or family? I heard that Bravo had to rent her a vehicle and get her some designer clothes for this scene. I’ve been ready for this scene since it was filmed.

Apparently Cynthia lied as well about her divorce being final. In actuality, she just filed last month to avoid tax issues. #CheckThatTea

Are storylines that hard to come by these days?!

Also did anyone else peep production’s shadiness? They showes Kenya’s confessional look about Cynthia’s location looking like the “dungeon porsha was kept in” and then the very next scene was Kandi saying how much she liked the location. #CarlosStrikesAgain

How is that shady? I was a dungeon kind of place and clearly not what some of them expected. She was not impressed. That doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be complimentary to Cynthia about it. Besides, after the show the urban setting made since with the edgy youthful theme?

The alternate was to be a cunt to the event planner complaining about how hot and dirty it was.

I think everyone says their real feeling to those they are there with (in this case the viewers) and the compliments the hostess on their lovely event. It’s called manners.

It was subtle shade by production NOT Kenya because after Kenya said it looks like the sex dungeon that Porsha was held in. They cut to Kandi saying how nice it look.

The gag is…Most of the drama of the past couple episodes were about “rumors” of Kandi having a sex dungeon where Kandi wanted to take and drug Porsha.

Cynthia and peter agreed to everything at the end of last year while still filming that was happening. They found out at the lawyer about tax benefits of waiting a few weeks and filing in 2017. What on earth difference does that make to anything. Cynthia never said she was divorced, just that everything was done.

So the next episode, where she says the “divorce is final” to Noelle isn’t the same thing as Phaedra lying to porsha about hers being final?

I guess I will make that call when and if I hear it, and in what context. She certainly didn’t say it to Phaedra this week. There was no “I know how you feel when it’s all really over.” It was just a few weeks ago on the show when she went to the lawyers. There is a difference between a marriage being over, final, done, no going back. And the actual divorce proceeding being over.

I fast forwarded Porsha’s scenes. I just could do the ignorants tonight.
Phaedra is super messy. She is saying she doesn’t have anything against Kandi but she is helping a man sue her. And the mesh bathing suit and jean outfit was horrific.
I loved Cynthia tonight. The Cargo fashion show was a hit.
I fast forwarded Kenya’s scenes too. I can’t with the Boyfriend storyline.
Did Sheree have a storyline tonight?

Next week will be good. Apollo’s new chick showing up will be epic.

I think I saw Kandi eating out of real plates on her Insta. That said there are plenty of restaurant that send stuff out in plastic baskets lined with paper etc. that are great little dives. Overall, using plated and glasses is cheaper than paper for restaurants and homes.

My comment was that every time someone mocks Kandi’s clan for eating off paper plates or Kim Biermann and her solo cups (as I do) Someone comes in and complains about washing dishes.

I find it particularly appalling when it is someone’s mother, or mother in law. Some of us were raised that that is just not done. All my exes would comment that I served them co-cola in a glass with ice or beer in a glass. Some would say they are fine drinking from the can. My response is they are free to do so, IN THEIR HOME. 🙂

Everything Phaedra Parks says is a verifiable lie. And much of it is blasphemy. That is when God did all his smiting in the old testment. Old Testament God was quite the unforgiving asshole when it came to those things. He literally killed millions of people by drowning or fire or dropping a wall on them, one time he had a couple folks eaten alive by bears because they made fun of a bald guy… It’s great read really, people getting killed at every turn!

And while he lightens up in the New Testament and only kills three people, things go back to basics in revelations where he is basically going to kill everyone who didn’t follow all the commandments and other not so clearly delineated rules. But even when he was in good mood for most of the new testament he killed a married couple in Acts for financial fraud. AHEM. And then just a few chapters later in Acts God did his last solo killing of The Good Book SMITING down Herod because he gave a really good speech and turned him into wormfood.

God has made it very clear he HATES liars and fraud, John, I’m just pointing them out in case God wants to revive the practice.

I’m not sure if Georgia has it’s own Rule of Professional Conduct for attorneys or if they use the ABA Model Rules. California has it’s own rules, but all attorneys in law school learn the Model Rule anyway because we are tested on them for the bar. THAT could be what Phaedra is talking about. EXCEPT to my knowledge there isn’t anything in the Model Rules that says if you can’t help a client you have to then find them a competent attorney. You can refer the out but you don’t have to hold their hand until they find representation. Hell, if Phaedra did a proper client interview she probably could tell him right off the bat he doesn’t really have a case. The oath you take is when you’re sworn in as an attorney at your swearing in ceremony…again nothing to do with the issue at hand. Does she think attorneys/law students don’t watch this show?

Well lucky them, us CA peeps have to learn both and what sucks is the Model Rules mean nothing to us after the bar exam!! I read the part with the Oath and I LOL’d hard!!! No attorney even says that anyway in any kind of setting. Usually they say it’s a violation of ethics, or a violation of the rules to do XYZ. I’ve never heard an attorney that I’ve worked for, had as a professor, or whatever, say “I took an oath so I have to do this.”

She doesn’t have to recuse herself because she isn’t his lawyer. If she was his lawyer she would have to file a motion to withdrawal as counsel and even that isn’t as cut and dry as it sounds. Recusing yourself is something a judge does. There is no attorney-client relationship between them whatsoever. A consultation doesn’t form the basis for one, but an attorney has to have the option to accept or pass on the case. Here, she told the guy she would refer him to someone who knows about this stuff. Bam, over and done with!

It’s irrelevant what rules of professional conduct Georgia uses. No where in any state’s RPC does it say that the referring attorney has to film his/her referral meeting with the potential attorney & client to blast it on a reality show.

I would like to point out that any astute person would have noticed this meeting proved nothing against Kandi; even the so-called employment law expert atty Oscar never said that Johnny had a nonfrivilous case. He looked very dubious of the whole charade to me, which proves nothing other than that he’s a far better attorney than phaedra is.

A nonfrivilous claim is one that can survive a rule 12(b)(6) motion. To file a claim that cannot would subject the attorney to rule 11 sanctions. Was that a real question?

I remember writing it and thinking it meant frivolous, despite fully reading and retyping the prefix in my question. Then when I read your response just my response was Jesus Christ! Why is this person defining the word nonfrivolous to me and quoting the professional rules of conduct to me???

Clearly I’m having an off day. Apologies.

I have been licensed to practice law in Georgia for 20 plus years. We have Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct that are modeled on the ABA rules. I have never seen Phaedra violate a rule but, IMO, she does push the envelope (and as a fellow Ga attorney and a fellow—but older—UGA law grad, she sometimes embarrasses the heck out of me). — Our rules address impropriety as well as the APPEARANCE of impropriety. As you know, the latter is subjective so people are seldom disciplined for the appearance. But, IMO, Phaedra does things (at least on tv) that most lawyers I know refrain from doing simply because it looks bad, raises the risk of a bar complaint being filed, and might suggest ethical issues, i.e, gives the appearance of impropriety. In response to your question of whether Phaedra thinks other attorneys do not watch the show, I am totally convinced that she thinks we do not. I cannot even count the number of times I have cringed because of something she did or said. And, I am not a Phaedra fan or a Phaedra hater, but I was petrified that she was going to lose her hard-earned license to practice law during the Apollo mess. I hope I have answers your question about our rules. Later y’all. Gotta get to work. 🙂

        Two more things:
        (1) Phaedra did not absolutely have to recuse herself from Johnny’s case, but it would have been “not smart” for her not to do so. (2) In addition to Professional Rules of Conduct, lawyers are bound by Canons of Ethics.

Exactly!! This whole scene upsets me because (1) people think what they see on Law & Order is real so they tend to more of than not believe more than half the crap on reality TV and seem to think that everything attorneys say is gospel (2) it drags the profession down to see attorneys conduct themselves this way (Phaedra and her lawyer).

Speaking of looking bad, what about The Kaplan Law Firm. Phaedra’s friend Ronnie Kaplan has been lying on camera in her scenes with Phaedra. Didn’t this attorney say on camera she was finally divorced and other lies. Phaedra has proven to be a pretty awful lawyer but would Kaplan go along with Phaedra’s scene just for a little free air time? Seems hard to believe!

Never really disliked Phaedra until last night. I understand it’s a show, but I think her and Porsha have gone TOO FAR with Kandi this season. No matter how you feel about Kandi, I just can’t take either of the two seriously – about ANYTHING. On a side note, did anyone notice all of the holes in Porsha’s fake boyfriends shirt? It didn’t look like style, just raggedy. TT love the blog – can’t live without it! : )

If it wasn’t for the law student, the real live lawyer and the rest of us Law and Order lawyers talking about Phaedra’s lie about “the oath” tonight. Y’all would have noting to comment about.

I expected the Kenya haters to mock her lustful look at Kairo.

I expected Kenya lovers and haters to heatedly debate the last scene.

I expected Kandi fans to excoriate Phaedra.

I expected much anticipation for the Slut Walk At the OLG next week.

I am starting to believe you guys when you say you are over this show. Based sole on this site, RHOBH is by far more interesting to you, although RHOA get more viewers, much fewer have any opinions they care to share.

I agree with you TT and I think it’s because the viewers for the most part are truly tired of these women on RHOA. Also, their storylines are so flimsy these days, it’s super easy to see right through them.

At least on RHOBH, they shake up the cast which helps keep it interesting. Sometimes it works (Erika, Lisa R., Eileen) and sometimes it doesn’t (Carlton? Joyce? Kathryn?), but at least they try. Also on RHOBH, their storylines aren’t paper thin, or at least not as thin on RHOA.

On RHOA, whenever they attempt to shuffle the deck, it flops miserably, like Claudia (even though I liked her) and Kim Fields. Or you get people like Lena, Demetria and Shamea, with most of their scenes on the cutting room floor and we never really get to invest in them.

As long as RHOA is the highest rated HW show, I do not think that Bravo will change the formula, even though the formula has been weak for several seasons. It still seems to be getting the job done, at least for their bottom line. A nice, massive casting change is long overdue, ala RHONY when Jill, Kelly, Alex and Cindy were all chopped in one fell swoop. Don’t see that happening, but it would be appreciated.

I kind of think RHOBH storylines this years have been extremely paper thin. Rehashing old crap over and over. So done with the Kim/sobriety line, insinuating one or another housewife is doing other drugs, panty gate (please stop). Honestly, I don’t think there were ANY good storylines. If there were they got lost in transit. I do agree, though, Atlanta with Porsha and Phadrea, Kenya and Matt it is all done. I honestly like most of the women on these two shows minus one or two here or there. It just seems they are doing a wrong to the many of wonderful women who must be in Atlanta who could be so much more like Cynthia then P and P. They are just ratchet. Bravo insists on taking us into the alley every season in one way or another on these shows and it is getting old.

Yes, TT I for one have lost all interest in RHOA. I only read the recaps to see if the show is worth watching again and for the past 2 years, I’ve concluded it is not worth the watch. I think RHOA is the highest watched because it’s the only housewife franchise of it’s kind with an all Black female cast. It needs competition. That may be the intent with Housewives of Potomac and why the network renewed Potomoc for a 2nd season despite dismal ratings. I think if Potomac does a better job in it’s 2nd season then some of the RHOA viewers may peel off as they are provided alternative to RHOA.

I’m ready for this Kenya/Matt story line to die. I’m tired of seeing his ugly, angry face. Plus, she presents herself as a string, independent woman who is capable of handling herself. Then this storyline of her running back to this abusuve, immature, jobless, nutcase makes her look foolish. It’s sad.

Sheree’s constant obsession with Kairo getting compensation has been driving me crazy. In my opinion, Cynthia has been VERY generous to even offer him a runway spot considering he has no idea what he is doing and has never had a modelling gig before at all. Sheree should be thanking Cynthia over and over again and sending her muffin basket just for giving Kairo exposure at a real fashion event. She’s so petty she’s even harassing them about the free bag. Was she planning to sell it for quick cash on ebay or something? Also, this thing with Kandi’s former employee is preposterous. Phaedra must realize his claims have no merit. When you work for someone’s business, aren’t you supposed to come up with new ways to further their brand? So, hypothetically, even if this guy said it would be a great idea for Kandi to open a restaurant or stage a play, wasn’t that part of his job? NOT that I believe his claims, just my opinion.

No one should serve food from the horrible foil roasting tins. Nice platters are the way to go.
About 10 years back, a new friend commented on the fact I was serving her wine in a cheap wine glass when she could see I had beautiful wine glasses tucked away in the cupboard. I told her they were special, (inherited) and I only use them on holidays and such. She replied every occasion should be special, as we might be dead tomorrow. Ever since then, we use our china, silver and glasses every day. They can’t go in the dishwasher so I wash them by hand. Yes, it’s a bit time consuming but good stuff does demand more care. Please no more paper cups or foil tins! I wish certain HWs thought about aesthetics more.

I have to say, I thought Kairo was so rude. First of all being so late then his attitude. Well….maybe he was nervous but he came off rude.
I kind of was a little sad about the Kenya and Matt. It seems like a man desperately struggling with himself. It is very sad to see that happen. He is immature and not fully there in terms of how to have a grown up relationship (are men ever?) . At the same time it was a little heartbreaking.
Phadera is just nasty but I will say, she was up front with Porsha about the baby nup. That was something else….

TT you are an amazing sleuth! I was stalking Matt’s IG & I noticed he posted a picture of Cythnia’s fashion show & alluded that he modeled in it. Now his IG is private (at least to me). Was he in the show??? He has the physique, but he is such a wild card! And the fact Bravo never addressed it (if he did walk in it). But then again, he could’ve been creating drama on social media to stress out our girl.
