60 Days In Atlanta: Welcome To The A-T-L !

I am so excited for the premiere of 60 Days In Season 3! I cannot believe they are filming in the Atlanta Fulton County Jail. That jail is legendary for being really, really bad.  Is this even safe?

First of all the first seconds were  clipped due to multiple tapings. But the scariest thing so far is that the inmates are familiar with 60 Days In and very suspicious. Oh fuck.  I won’t be able to pull my eyes off the screen to type like other shows so this could take forever. We are two minute in and even knowing what I thought I knew my jaw is on the floor.  Gangs are rough in Atlanta. I woke up one morning to go to work in the ghetto and my neighbor across the street whose side yard faces me had their wooden fence tagged by the local gang. These ain’t easy streets like you see on RHOA.  And I live just outside the perimeter (OTP).

Fulton COUNTY jail houses around 2,500 inmates. That’s a COUNTY JAIL.  And the COs have a history of bringing in drugs and contributing to the problem. It’s mayhem in there.

This episode will be about the new “inmates”and what the hell motivated them to go in.

Calvin is a teacher of high risk youth. Which makes me wonder, was this filmed in the hot summer time? Teachers need the summer to decompress. Did he really choose to spend his “down time” in prison? Wow,on top of it all he’s a SPED teacher.  So much love for Calvin. He’s married with three kids. I want to give him all of my money. If I had money.

Fulton County Jail is a high rise. The male inmates will be on either four  south 500 or four south six hundred. Both are medium security.  Six hundred is for the older folk.

Jon is a criminal justice reform activist. He is white. He is movie star good looking. I am extremely worried for him.  He’s has lots of experience in law enforcement and homeland security. I predict he will have movie agents calling him as soon as the show airs.  He’s also kinda douchey. Like Zac. Zac has taught us to be wary of his kind. I’m already wary of this one.

The women’s jail is just as bad if not moreso. We won’t see people like Barbra treating the whole thing like a sleep over. This will not be a fun experience.  They women in the South Annex do not play.

Mauri is a former corrections officer in a male prison. She hopes to see things from the other side. She worked in a maximum security prison and after writing up an inmate she was confronted by him with a cup of feces to her face. She’s tough. She should be alright. She’d like to see prison reform. I like her.

Don’s father was incarcerated. He too wants prison reform. He’s been married for 17 years and has four kids. I love him.

Nate is a white marine who thinks jail should be tougher. No phone calls. No TV. He’s going to see some suffering.  White people in FCJ don’t fare so well in this jail. He just graduated college at 28 after doing two tours of duty. He wants the drugs out of the jails. He’s overconfident.

The men will be locked down with one other inmate for 15 hours a day. The women will be locked down in dorms of 8.

Jessica is married to an inmate she met while he was incarcerated. Her husband Rueben was incarnated for almost 11 years for a non violent crime. Sounds like drug dealing to me. Allegedly. They are now living very well it seems.  They got married the day he got out of prison. She should be on RHOA.  She could be BFF with Phaedra! She is leaving him with her kids even though she talks about how aggressive he still is. She thinks this will save her marriage. She’s Porsha stupid.

Speaking of stupid women, we have Michelle a white woman who is willing to do this. Her goal is to go to college. And you know to get a job. And she thinks her jail time will help her achieve these goals. I already predict she will tap out the first damn day. She’s dumb. But very pretty and she has a great relationship with her daughter. I can see myself loving her as the show goes on. But I really want he to tap out. Ha! Her daughter thinks she will tap our early. We shall see.

According to the FBI there are over 4o,000 gang members in Atlanta, according to Tamara Tattles  that number is way low.

Gerson is a youth minister from El Salvador. I love him.  He has a healthy fear of the experience.

Matt is  a forty year old HVAC dude. He’s normal. He says he is a rebel that never got caught. I love him. He jokes that he might end up staying in jail. I believe that is foreshadowing because this time, someone agrees to stay for two seasons.

I like that the first episode is not about giving the their directions but how they deal with leaving their families. And off we go to lockup.Or not. We are going to training. Dammit, man.

Since the inmates probably loved the first season the tells are different. Gone is the white towel and the I miss hot coffee stuff. The new distress signal is hands behind your head and twisting.  Instead of wishing for hot coffee it’s “I wish I had more TV channels.” Oh these people are so fucked.

Jon (the white pretty boy)is the first in. His covert is he is a paramedic arrested for distributing narcotics from his job.  His intake process is insane enough to make him want to tap out. But he does not.  It’s a group shower on intake. All clothes are gone.

On the women’s side Jessica is up first. same group shower.  Jessica is a moron,

During the men’s intake a non member flashes a bag of drugs he brought in. WTF? He literally tells the cameras that is how the drugs come  in.  AND HE SIGNED A RELEASE. He’s Porsha levels of stupid!

The plant points out they do not do cavity searches or very serious searches at the Fulton County Jail.

Next week: It looks like Gerson drops out.  I thought he would last longer… but I respect him for dropping out. I expect a LOT of drop outs this season. Yet some asks to stay another 60. So we shall see .

I can tell I’ll need to record this season and watch the following day or else I’ll surely have nightmares. I’m scared for them.

I am so excited for this season!! This jail is so different than the Clark County jail. I would be scared to death of those women!!! There seems to be so much more violence (from the previews anyway) in this jail. I have to admit the inmate that was so talkative had me laughing out loud. He was stupid, but funny. The entire episode I pointed out to my husband and daughter…”this is the point where I would get my ass kicked” or “this is the point where I would have to leave”. Group bath.

I’m excited and terrified all at once for this season. Way more terrified though. Just the way they started this time makes it seem so different than last season, like this is FOR REAL!!

Calvin is adorable, and his wife is a knock out. I hope he does well. Well, I hope they all do well. Like the other poster said, we’ll need to tape a few in a row to make sure that everybody is ok, those cliffhangers for next week kill me!!

You can always tell when I am drinking Merlot while recapping. And I don’t mean all the typos. When I’ve had more Merlot than I should, I love everyone and want to give everyone money.

Two things. Interesting and good they had the teacher of the correction officers from “Rookie the first year” to train them. Secondly, says a lot if the feeling is “this isn’t Clark county”. Lol

This is gonna be a great season. There is no amount of money that would cause me to spend even one night down at that Fulton County facility. No way. And I agree, I think the #’s of gang members is low also. Maybe cause they’re only including the # in the city and not the outlying areas. I know Gwinnett is full of gangs, too.

I would go if the money was good. I picked up the first season the money was good from the youngish Mom who would call her husband abd talk about buying a house. Thinking the money was good enough for a partial down payment.

As a semi-liberal, drugs do not belong in jail and the person found smuggling them in shound receive a set in stone conviction and time.
When it’s known what the consequences are and it’s known they are enforced that does act as deterrent.
      Love this series.

Jessica may be stupid. We shall see. I sort of get her wanting to understand what he went through in order to understand why he’s the way he is today. Nine years is a long time to do and two years out isn’t that long in the scheme of things. Having a good support system is important for ex convicts to be successful and perhaps her understanding will help their relationship as well as his adjustment. She’s certainly committed to him. Hopefully she’s not Porsha stupid although it may appear that way. Then again, things aren’t always as they appear.

Really hard to imagine how anyone is going to do this season. I already am scared for everyone since the guards are a big part of the problem, and not exactly comforting if you need them. Dangerous feeling.

You nailed it, Cheryl. The corruption inside is what scares the hell out of me, too. This is completely off subject but the corruption in there I believe is indicative to what really happened when that court officer was so severely beaten and the judge and court reporter and another man were murdered by a guy facing trial. The other officers were not doing their jobs and THEIR boss ended up stepping down. This was some time ago. I do fear for these folks and I think I’d rather do state or federal time than spend any length of time in Fulton.

I found myself thinking about Mauri today. She’s one I pegged to do well. Then I remembered, Tami, the last corrections officer we had in there not holding up well at all and started to worry about her.

Yeah, I think this is going to be an interesting season indeed. I can hardly wait for the next episode. Ain’t no way I could do what they’re doing – especially not where they are. I’m glad this facility was chosen.

I just (FINALLY) got a chance to watch this episode on the DVR and afterward stumbled upon your post. Your assessments are spot-on. And, while I hope we are wrong, I’m afraid that there’s a lot of Porsha level stupid floating around in this group. I just pray for their safety–you couldn’t pay me enough to go in that hell hole!

Just curious, how does A&E advertise for these participants? What could they possibly say to get them to be willing to put themselves in this situation?

Did they leave these things out?

    1) Participants never being to jail before, and
    2) They may have to do real time if they break the law while in there.

I’m with you TT, I’m worried about Jessica’s kids being left with her ex-con husband who has anger and aggression issues, especially since they aren’t HIS kids.

imo, the white woman is gonna have problems too. Something weird about her attitude.

Hopefully they will spend a little time each week interviewing the participants and discussing what they had experienced with their mental health.

Think being on TV is the draw. Some people just try to get on a reality show. Personally, I believe that is priority to social consciousness. Not in all, but some.

Okay, I give. May have to check out this show so can follow along with y’all. Way to go with the peer pressure and FOMO. So I get that it’s on A & E and I have to basically binge the first season if I’m going to be on track with the rest of you. Have a couple questions though. What night is it on? This is most important as I have limited shows I can tape simultaneously. Also, WHY do they do this???!!! Is there a cash prize or are they all batshit? IDGI

Thursday night, 9:00p.m. This is season 3. Think you can not watch 1 and 2 because this season seems a bit different. If not, season 2 was better than 1, in my opinion. Have a great Saturday IJC! 🙂

Each season has different participants. This season just started and the only thing you missed so far is finding out about the participants. They aren’t all in the jail yet.

You can binge previous seasons if you want to and/or watch the first episode of season 3 on the A & E website.

I agree with many of the posters about Jessica’s daughter. I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave him in charge of a child for 2 months, knowing how hard it is to be a parent, even in the best of circumstances. He has no clue how to parent, which how could he after being locked up nearly 10 years? What is she thinking?? It sounds like a set up for a bad outcome. I worry about the little girl. Also, stating the obvious…why the hell was she talking to men off of an inmate webpage?!

I worry about Calvin, he looks like he could be eaten alive. I am also worried for Jessica’s kids, or how this will NOT help her marriage. Thank you TT for turning me on to this show, I watched all of season 2 and loved it. If you have on demand A & E has the first show of season 3 up.
