Pretty much every day brings fresh hell these days. The weather in Atlanta has been mostly dreary for all of 2017. I’m super affected by the weather so it has been quite difficult to motivate to do much of anything. Today, it’s already starting to look like we are going to be concerned about tornadoes. There is a really wide path in south Georgia and northern Florida that is in a lot of danger today. More than a dozen lives were lost in a band of storms in the wee hours of this morning. I am watching my weather guy on Twitter and trying not to stress. Bad weather gives me tremendous anxiety. So, I have decided to watch My Kitchen Rules and recap this one since it is Brandi’s turn to cook this week. It is also Naomi Judd’s turn to cook. Naomi Judd is the batshit mother of many a crazy nutjob. She is totally where Ashley gets it all from. But enough about that. Let’s get on with the show.
In case you haven’t been watching, there are five pairs who each host a dinner party. The other teams rate the experience anonymously and the competitors scores are added together. The two judges are Curtis Stone and Cat Cora. Their scores somehow have the most weight but it is complicated. It is rumored that Brandi had an intimate relationship with Cat Cora during the entire filming or perhaps after filming. Supposedly they hooked up for a couple of weeks.
The five couples are Lance Bass and his mother Diane, Brandi Norwood and her brother Ray J, Andrew Dice Clay and his wife Valerie, Naomi Judd and her husband Larry, and Brandi and Leann Rimes ex-husband Dean Shermet. Brandi and Ray J and Lance and Diane went last week. This week it’s Brandi and Naomi’s turn. Next week will be Dice’s turn and one couple will be eliminated before the second round.
Naomi & Larry
Larry is making the first course, a light tomato soup with caesar salad bites. Naomi is making the second course, her famous lasagna. I love this menu already. Brandi pretends to have trouble remembering everyone’s name at the dinner table. When Ray J introduces himself, Brandi says, “Oh I know who you are, I saw the video.” Some are upset that Diane, the only normal person at the table, might have her delicate sensibilities offended.
The soup course went over well. Brandi, Ray Jay and Dice all claim not to like the soup. The judges liked but did not love the soup. Curtis loved the salad cups.
In between the courses, Brandi let’s it be known that Dean has actually gone to culinary school. That was stupid of her.
The lasagna was amazing by everyone’s account. Team Dice gave the meal a 7. Team Lance also goes with 7. Team Brandi also went with 7. Team Ray Jay is in last place, so they vote strategically and give them a four. Their collective score was 25 out of 40. The judges rate each dish separately. They both gave the soup a five. So that’s 10 out of 20. They lasagna got 13 out of 20. Their total score is 48 out of 80. They are now in last place and Team Ray J is safe. I think that Naomi asked to be voted out first because she didn’t want to film with the others. Just like I think Kenya asked to go home on her cooking show first due to excessive drama with Matt. To me, this meal looked way better than Brandi and Ray J’s dinner. Then again, we don’t get to taste anything.
Brandi & Dean
They make it seem like they are cooking in Brandi’s kitchen, but based on the professional looking stove, I have a feeling this is Dean’s kitchen and Brandi has just sprinkled her wine bottles and photos of her boys on his counter tops. I could be wrong. Dean is nervous because Brandi blurted out to everyone that he had been to culinary school. Brandi is making
a burrata and heirloom tomato salad with charred corn for the first course. Dean is cooking a Morrocan lamb dish over cous cous.
Lance is already talking about sabotaging his score because he doesn’t want to go head to head with Dean. Larry also wants to sabotage their score because they are in last place.
The judges were not impressed with Brandi’s salad claiming she didn’t cook anything. She should have mentioned that she charred the corn. Dean’s lamb was super rare. Larry and Naomi had never had lamb. They live on a farm and have pet sheep or something.
Team Naomi give them a 3. Team Ray J gives a 6. Team Lance goes with 7. Team Dice goes with 5. That’s 21 out of 40. That’s the lowest combined score so far. During the judges comments, Brandi says she can’t even look at the judges. She says she never gets like that except during sober sex, which is never fun. Alrighty then. Curtis says it was too undercooked. Cat says she loved it. Was that about the dinner or her rendezvous with Brandi? Brandi’s appetizer gets a 10/20. Dean’s lamb gets a 6 from Curtis and an 8!!!!! from Brandi’s secret lover. Allegedly. So the streets say. I heard it from Mama Joyce. So 14/20 from the judges. For a total score of 24/40 from the judges and an overall of 46/80. They are in last place! Oh my!
Next time: Team Dice is the last to cook. If they don’t beat Team Brandi they will go home.
Naomi was not nearly as weird this episode. Are y’all watching this?
I have never watched a cooking show but I happened upon this and enjoyed it. It’s the right mix of normal and bat shit crazy celebs. One the bat shit list you have Andrew , Ray J, Brandi G, and Naomi. The only thing I don’t like is how they rate their competition. Ray J was like I can’t rate this dish high as it will put them higher than his and his sister Brandi’s dish.WTF? Naomi’s husband Larry seems like a really nice guy and they have a gorgeous home. He seems to just tune out her crazy side. Brandi as usual has no filter at all and it’s getting old. Ray J seems so damn immature, it’s hard to imagine Whitney spending her last days being with him. It’s a nice, fun light show which I prefer these days.
Because Whitney was so mature and made great decisions?
Yes, I’m watching! I like the show, but don’t like that they can give another team a low score to stay in the game.
I have been watching this show for years in Australia. When people vote strategically, it comes back to its you during the kitchen challenges because 1. It makes the judges think you have a shitty palate. 2, it pisses the judges off and they go harder on you during the kitchen challenges when the judges are, well judging, without the other contestants input. 3. It turns the public against you. 4. Who wants the shitty cooks to stay in the competition?
That is how the show has had such longevity in Oz. Mind you, this show has everyday cooks (Dean would not have been allowed to participate as a ‘professional’. The strategic voting happened in the 1st couple seasons, but resolved itself over time. No one wants the country dragging you over the coals of social media. HTH.
Sorry, should say ‘when people vote strategically it comes back to bite you during the kitchen challenges.
That portion of the show is a lot like Masterchef with mystery boxes and other challenges.
Was confused for a minute about which Brandi was bumping p****** with Cat Cora. I missed her announcement on WWHL.
Came in 20 min late for this episode and totally missed the Judd dinner so thanks for the recap.
I found Mama Judd annoying. I didnt hear Larry speak much so I don’t have an opinion for him.
Brandi and Ray J are entertaining. I wished I could have seen their dinner. No opinion on Lance or Diane. Missed that episode entirely.
I didn’t hate Brandi on this episode. She looked really pretty but wearing white while cooking? Not my choice. Dean creeps me out a little bit.
I did enjoy the show. I wasnt going to even bother watching but TT recommended it so decided to give it a go. Can’t wait til next week when Andrew makes an ass of himself.
Lance and his Mom made a great dish, I missed most of Brandi’s and Ray J.I adore Lance and his Mom’s relationship. The only meal I did not really care for was Brandi and Dean’s. He is a trained chef so that is odd. Gotta agree with Ray J on having to compete with him cause of that fact.
However they have athletes and trained dancers competing with celebs on dancing with the stars all the time. The fact that Brandi hooked up with Cat Cora did not seem to help her score any.
Why does Brandi still try shocking people with all the sex innuendos? If she would class it up a bit she might get somewhere. Its getting old. She has to be better than that? Right? Though I know to expect this from her its a bit much for regular tv. I love seeing Naomi as feisty and crazy as she is!
Yes. I love this show! I don’t like the fact that the others can sabotage each other with their scores. It’s good , entertainment though . Brandi and Ray J are pretty entertaining and o live lance Bass and his mom.
I missed the first episode but enjoyed this one.
Been watching! I am a Brandi G fan so that’s why I tuned in. Sucked that they didn’t do as well as I hoped and really don’t want them eliminated next week.
I really can’t stand the other Brandy. She was EXTRA extra during their segment and so now when she slips in little bits during the interviews, I get annoyed with her all over agin. Lance and his mom did a great job and I like Naomi’s husband (umm, back up singer for the king?? Yes!) so she gets a pass. She should let him talk more though. It’s soothing. Andrew Dice Clay seems like a jerk, but his wife seems nice, but i hope they bomb next week, mainly just so Brandi can stay
I find this show entertaining. It is a celebrity version of „Come dine with me” for me. Most of the talking heads are hilarious – Lance’s mom saying she will google the video? Poor woman!
Strangely Brandi G. and Dean make an interesting couple (team „The Leftovers”). But well, if she hooks up with Cora, then there is nothing to it.
Naomi scares me. Her face doesnit move.
