Southern Charm Update: ROAD TRIP!

Here is a super quick Southern Charm update. The entire crew is in Key West celebrating Cameran’s birthday this weekend. And yes, cameras are rolling.

Rumor has it Patti was in Atlanta yesterday. She’s likely headed that way.

It sounds like the all cast final cast trip. Should be interesting. It seems like Kathryn and Cameran are at least being cordial.

Updated: So it seems that the gang was out last night at Aqua, a drag club, on um, the main drag of Key West. All I got was “everyone was drunk off their asses.”  Which doesn’t seem to bode well for our fair lady. I’m just going to leave it at that. Perhaps they meant “almost everyone.”  Or our favorite was in the powder room powdering her nose and taking selfies when the assessment was made.

Next, I thought this photo from Thomas Ravenel taking the kids to see Santa he posted today might make a cute caption this. Emphasis on the cute and not mean or depressing please.

Do you have any cute stories about taking your kids to see Santa, or being a kid going to see Santa? Please share with the class.

Those children are absolutely beautiful & I for one think Katherine is doing a remarkable job parenting both under the extreme circumstances she has been forced to endure with all of those spiteful cast mates !

I have a very similar but old black and white picture of my older brother and me except that I am reaching out to anyone and obviously screaming. Kensie looks so much like Kathryn to me. Cute picture.

Kensie: “I don’t know why Saint Julian is crying so much, I told him this isn’t Daddy, This is what Daddy will look like by the time he goes to high school”

This picture is like every picture every year that I took my kids to see Santa. #Memories I miss them being that small but my grand babies remind me how much fun they were….. and then Nana needs a nap..lol

    Beautiful kids!

When my firstborn was IDK, around 2, I left her with my parents while on business trip. They were pissed I let her use whatever kiddie word she used for her private parts. (My stance was to educate her when she was bit older what the technical terms were, realizing at that age they kind of act like they have Tourette’s when they learn a new word)

So, my parents used this time to drill into her the technical terms for what boys & girls have down there. I came back to find out they took her to see Santa & while on his lap, she evidently asked him very loudly & repeatedly if he had a penis! Lol!

This continued only when she was with them, never with me. I still laugh about how embarrassed my mom must have been!

When we were young kids, my Mom always had all 3 of us on Santa’s lap to only have to pay for 1 picture. I was always afraid of Santa, and this weirdly creepy giant talking snowman named Archie they had at our local mall- man that thing was was the worst…anyway I am on 1 leg so he could restrain me long enough for the pic, 2 brothers on other knee. I was so freaked out I reared back, head-butted Santa, and he screamed and dropped one brother on the end who hit the floor, the other face planted off on front. The picture ( a Polaroid) was a blur. My Mom yelled at us the whole way home for wasting money:) we laugh about it now but man she was pissed! Ah holiday family fun.

It’s both adorable and horrifying at the same time. She’s so calm and composed and he’s completely going off! Looking at this picture, I realize they have the same age difference me and my younger brother have, and I think I understand her indifference, lol. At least at that age.

When my daughter found out that Santa was not real, she was devastated by the fact I had lied. So, my son, who was 10 years younger than her, when he would talk about Santa, I was able to avoid his questions by saying “ask your dad”, rather than the thought of him finding out I lied. She is 30 now, and jokes about still being traumatized by that. 🙂

I will keep telling myself that “our fair lady” was not one of the many, and perhaps was hiding in the bathroom to get away from any “trouble lurking”. She has come too far to make a mistake that Sir Thomas would have a field day with. Fingers and toes crossed that our Southern Charm Fair Lady Queen is fine and all is well in her kingdom..I have been watching far too many royalty shows today..lol

My daughter was terrified of Santa. One year, standing in a long line to see Santa with the hubs and her older brother, I was quietly trying to convince my 5 year old daughter to sit in Santa’s lap to take a picture. She suddenly screamed out with her ear piercing wail ‘Santa is stupid and I hate him!” and burst into tears. As I looked down the line, all the other children’s faces were aghast. I took her off to the side to calm her and my son’s turn came. She collected herself enough to scream across the mall ‘Hey Ben, tell Santa I want the Barbie bus, three new Barbies and coloring stuff”. Her poor brother was mortified but Santa granted her wishes on Christmas day.

My younger brother wouldn’t tolerate having his picture taken for ANY reason until he was around five. There are tons of photos with he and myself (and the youngest once he arrived) just like the one of the Ravanel kids. My favorite Santa photo has to be the one where brother is screaming and I’m giving the camera a toddler (3 almost 4 years old) version of bedroom eyes. It was the early 80s, nobody was getting between Booke and her Calvins and I wanted to be her when I grew up, so I was giving the camera by best imitation.

I love that they went to Key West. I will get to see my hometown. Originally lived in Key West as a kid. Dad was a shrimp boat captain before the Keys were totally tourism. I’ve been to Aqua. Good times! But nothing beats just hanging at Sloppy Joe’s or heading down to Malory Square for sunset. I look forward to watching it all play out.

We have not taken little man to see Santa yet. He’s 7 going on 10. Inquisitive and incredibly sharp. He walked with me past the Santa in the mall last week and said “mom, every Santa looks different. They make you pay money to get a picture. Maybe those are just actors”. He knows acting because my grandfather was in Star Trek next generation and other movies in the 60’s through the 90’s. So, instead we make a PNP video for him every year. It’s called Portable North Pole. You upload a photo of your child, a pic of what they want, a pic of your house, character traits, etc. It’s awesome. They let you choose 2 extra photographs to include with a description. The Santa says all of it. He talks to them as if it’s a video conference. He wears this big fluffy beard that prevents the kids from seeing his mouth moving. For us, it’s so much better than a quick visit at the mall. It’s more personal. My lil man Really thinks Santa can see him through the camera on the computer just like a Skype. It’s pretty awesome. Last night he watched this years and was grinning ear to ear. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, still half asleep he sits up in bed this morning and says “Mom, do you think all kids get their own video conference with Santa?”. I said “I don’t know , but let’s not tell them just in case they don’t”. If you guys haven’t done it, check it out. You pay for the good videos, but it’s worth it.

My boys were ok with Santa, they are 6 years apart in age. When my oldest was 3, long before my lil one came along he decided the Easter Bunny was creepy. He told me ‘Mom, get real. There is just something wrong with a 6 foot bunny”. LOL!!! His brother agreed when he came along. I have NO Easter bunny pictures!

It figures that they’d go to Aqua. That’s the gay bar with the “mixed” crowd, i.e. where the breeders go to gawk at the gays and “the transvestites”. It’s not really a drag bar; they just have a couple of drag queens as hostesses. The drag bar is a couple of blocks down.

I certainly can’t say what certain cast members were doing or not. However, I really hope that it didn’t turn into Craig and Shep doing an extra-drunken frat-boy-type excursion to the gay bars so they can be all: “Look at me! I walked on the wild side and deigned to party with the gay guys! Doesn’t that make me great? Oh, and that cross-dresser was in love with me!” Of course, it’s all in the editing. So we’ll see.

I agree with you though that the fact they are there at all is worrisome. For people that age, the whole point of Key West is to be intoxicated every moment. Although maybe it was convenience for the producers – it’s a relatively close get-away, no international travel headaches, and the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are the slowest of the year, so cheap (relatively speaking) rates are available. Win-win. Maybe.
