WOW. WHAT. A. GAME. I checked in during the ninth inning and I am on the edge of my seat! I keep scaring the shit out of Banjo screaming YES! YES! YES!
I lived in Chicago during my middle school years. My older sister moved in with us in an apartment with her three kids after a divorce. She dated a White Sox player and worked at the Commodities Exchange before moving to a Lake Shore Drive apartment. Later married a Chicagoan and had two more kids. They divorced but are having a watching party with their grown kids tonight and I am sure everyone is wasted watching this. They already flew up to drink at Murphy’s and watch the game.
I have forgotten how HOT baseball players are. Probably second only to soccer players. I was so in love with Ron Gant and have all of his baseball cards. I think he is a newscaster in Atlanta now or something. I was very into baseball in college. This is so exciting I am so glad I accidentally found out the game was still on.
CUBS WIN!!!!!!!
Not a huge MLB fan because I hate how much they are traded but my son has played forever and I love the game. This was one for the ages! Super crazy series and game! Good for the cubs, they deserved it.
We live in Cleveland. Pretty sad right now. And there’s a storm rolling in, to boot. 🙁
SLM, please don’t be too sad. You have LeBron James and the championship winning Cavaliers! I am so jealous.
Thanks, Coco. I’m really proud of the Indians, they fought like hell and coming in number 2 in the World Series out of all the teams in the league is still pretty freaking awesome. LeBron and a lot of the Cavs were there last night cheering them on. And I extend congrats to the Cubs – it was a good fight and you should be proud of yourselves. Now, Cubs fans, go party it up like we did in Cleveland when the Cavs reached the top of the hill!!! ???
Both teams should be proud! It was a great game, on both sides!
Awe sorry SLM! I was rooting for y’all!! They gave it their best I am sure so Cleveland should be proud. I didn’t have a dog in the race but watched this whole series looking for an Indian win (originally from St. Louis so ya know?). Condolences
So happy the “curse” was broken! I think there are going to be many people (cough, cough, wink!) calling in sick tomorrow! What a game!!!
Born and raised in Chicago. This is such an amazing night. I just think of every Chicagoan who never gave up. Go Cubbies!
Another Chicagoan here. I almost had a heart attack several times during that game. I am ecstatic they won. Absolutely amazing. And yes baseball players are amazingly hot, even if they are pretty much young enough to be my sons.
Yes!!!! So exciting!
We didn’t have much alcohol in the house tonight. I tuned in in the 9th and had like two glasses of wine. I had to Google to find out if we had alcohol sales after midnight. Banjo and I just went on a beer run.
This is so exciting and such a happy time (unless you are from Ohio, um condolences). I have got to get up and call the surgeons office tommorow. I have been sitting by the phone waiting for their call and apparently missed it when I took the trash out on Monday night! But I am full of adreneline!
TT, best of luck with your surgeon’s call tomorrow. I pray everything goes well for you.
I can just picture you and Banjo making a beer run after midnight. Too funny!
Hope you get your surgery arranged and set TT. I’ll be so relieved for you when you can get this done and be on the mend again. Yes, we’re all a little sad and sobered this morning in CLE, but we love them hard, still, and there’s going to be a big rally for the Indians of fan appreciation, because they did give us a hell of a World Series, didn’t they?
One of the best days of my life. Was lucky enough to go to the game last Saturday at Wrigley. Popped open some Champagne and may not be able to sleep tonight. Go Cubs Go!!!
It would be inappropriate for me to mention my gaydar going OFFFFF here right? Okay. I’ll just be quiet.
With who?
I paused programming and am now watching the Indians coach interview. He seems like the best guy. I always feel so sorry for the losing team and I was glad they didn’t so much of them tonight, but the Indians deserve A LOT of respect. They fought their hearts out. I wish there could be two teams.
The Cleveland Indians have an awesome manager — Terry Francona. He was the manager of the Boston Red Sox when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 and 2007. He is humble and thoughtful. He was very under-appreciated in Boston (in my humble opinion).
Both teams have several former Red Sox players and management. Among them, Theo Epstein (Cubs President?) was the General Manager of the Red Sox in 2004 and 2007 when they won the World Series, Jon Lester and John Lackey have both won World Series with the Red Sox and then David Ross won with the Red Sox won again in 2013. A lot of former Red Sox people to be happy for last night.
For me as a Boston/New England Sports fan it was hard to pick a team to root for, in the end I wanted the Cubs to win because of the 108 years, but this was such a great World Series, and a great game, two very deserving teams.
Congratulations Chicago and Cleveland, this was a series for the ages.
So excited! I grew up in MO and am a diehard Cards fan, but am now a transplanted IL Cubs fan too. Congrats Cubs! Indians played a great game!
Such an amazing game! Watching it brought back my Grandpa, in spirit. He was a catcher in the Minors and was a diehard fan to the end. Not much has changed; he was a handsome bugger back in the day and these players were swoon worthy. Congrats Cubbies!
My Dad and my Father in law were both WWII veterans, coal miners and life long Cubs fans. My husband and I pictured them together enjoying the game from heaven. It is definitely a feel good moment.
As a long time Cubs fan. I can only say “Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win.”
Harry Carey must be the happiest man in heaven.
Hot baseball players, Tamara? Did you ever see Ryne Sandburg when he played second base for the Cubs?
I missed it!! Was on a hot date last night but I LOVE your enthusiasm!! I love Wrigley Field!! so I get what you’re talking about!! Can you imagine how fun it would have been to be there? Too cool.
GO CUBS GO!!! I never watch baseball but our city needed this. We needed to be in the news for something other than the violence. I am so happy to have witnessed this history. The die hard fans deserved this win. They waited a long time!
It was a great series and an even greater game 7. So excited for the Cubs!!! I stayed up way to late celebrating and now I’m feeling it this morning.
A wonderful, well deserved win! Thrilled for cubs fans!
Reporting here from Chicagoland. At about 1 a.m. My husband says hey, our girl doesn’t have a cubs shirt to wear to school tomorrow, what’s open 24/7? I said, only Walmart. So he heads out to find police in the parking lot to help out with the crowd. They also had police down further at Dicks Sporting Goods to keep people in control because a line had formed outside the door even though the store wasn’t scheduled to open until 10 a.m.
I love Chicago. All 4 kids at the bus stop were in Cubs gear. The Curse of the Billy Goat is Over!!!!
That is the best!! So happy for your city, what a nice moment and so sweet to read.
I live in Chicago, and I was afraid to go outside and join the revelry (even though it was going on…until like at least three in the morning when I could finally fall asleep) once some of my neighbors started shooting of their guns. A lot of fireworks, but I didn’t want to end this crazy game with a stray bullet lodged in my brain.
I am not a huge baseball fan but I knew this game was historic! Once I started watching I could not change the channel. God a great game. Congrats Cabbies. Although a native Atlanta my late Father went to Chicago every January for the McCormick trade show for his business. I can remember taking him to the airport with his cold weather clothes. Lol Chicago in January is NO joke. He also was a member of the Union League Club and got his fantastic cigars there. Before the smoking police were everywhere, anytime I smelled a cigar It reminded me of Dad. Good memories. On another note, the cubs fans always loved them, even through all the awful years. Fans in Atlanta are nothing like that. Cubs You rule!! Great job!!
Cubbies not cabbies.
Go Cubs!! They won last night on my son’s 10th birthday. One for the ages !!!!!!!
I tuned in toward the end of the rain delay. What a 10th inning! I felt like I was actually there!
Both teams should be proud as heck. I wish there was some special award for Cleveland. They played a hard game.
I have friends from Chicago, AND from Cleveland, so I was kind of stuck in the middle. But Chicago has always been one of my favorite cities, so I have to admit I was rooting for them.
Funny, this was more exciting than the Royals last year. I didn’t watch any of those games, and I LIVE in Kansas City!
Where in Kansas City, Cat ~ im familiar with that area.
Overland Park, Kansas
Well, Cat, there sorta’ is an award for Cleveland. The Indians are the American League champions! No small accomplishment that,
Oh, that’s good! Thanks!
Oh boy, did I ever need this. And this morning I can’t stop watching clips from “Field of Dreams”. James Earl Jones cannot tell me about baseball enough times. “It reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again.”
♨️ ITA on the hotness of baseball players ♨️.
Everyone is Chicago is happy. Sox fans are even congratulating Cubs fans. We really needed this.
Born and raised a Cubs fan. (My mom went to a 1945 world series game and I grew up watching them all summer.) What a season it has been. Never in my wildest imagination did I envision them winning it all this year, even though they had an amazing season. I can die happy now knowing that the curse, Bartman and all of that crap are behind us. I am happily and proudly Flying the W today.
If you want to see a hot baseball players google Kris Bryant. I refer to him as My Boyfriend, much to my husband’s dismay.
Writing from Chicago, what’s amazing is what people are mostly talking about today. Sure, the curse has been broken, and yes it was a great 7. game series. The game last night was one of the most exciting World Series games played ever, both teams proved why they deserved to be there. BUT, what is mostly being talked about today is Grandpa’s and Grandma’s., Uncles and Aunts, basically every loved one in a Chicagoians life who as fans that were watching, hooting and hollering last night in between shedding tears for their beloved team, were also shedding tears wishing on ever they had that their Grammy or Papa were here to witness this magical and some say miracle night. Miss you Grandma Dorothy, I’m sure she is saying “It’s about Fucking time” (She was real cuddly like that.lol)
My husbands 94 year old grandmother grew up on the North side and is a lifelong, diehard Cubs fan. Now she’s in a memory care facility with dementia. I hope she understands when we’ve been telling they’re in/won the World Series and watching the games, but she forgets stuff like 5 minutes after you tell her, although she can remember things from her youth with clarity.
Something yelled me SamT, that she absolutely knew what happened! There is a perseverance about Cub fans, they never quit believing. And if they say what is true and she is a lifetime Cubs fan the first in last out Theory probably took place. Believing that she knows, I’m so happy for her
I don’t care for baseball, but my sister was a huge Cubs fan, despite being from Detroit and living in Tucson. She passed away a decade ago, and I am sure she is doing cartwheels right now!
Being from Chicago, I’ve met a few Gildeas (my first kiss was a Gildea, boy). My Grandama knew some Gildeas as well. I hope they crossed paths.up there and your sister is teaching My favorite broad (my Grandma) to do cartwheels with her.
Cried like a baby! Watching the parade right now–there are 6 million people in Grant Park! ☘️
I grew up in the Chicago Metro area and we absolutely loved the Cubbies growing up. I lost interest in baseball, but when I was a kid I would go to their games, and just loved everything about it, and my Cubbies, but they just never did well, and you know what, it didn’t matter, everyone I knew still loved them anyway. WTTW the pbs station in Chicago used to run a home brewed half hour tv show once a week that featured a group of fans at the stadium watching games, and commenting on the play. It’s been a long time but my memory was they always left on a hopeful note. I’m so freakin happy for the Cubs because I’ve been waiting for this for my entire life almost literally.
