Married At First Sight: Til Death Do Us Part?

I was petrified that I was going to be spoiled on the ending of this season because the show was over two hours long and I could not record it until one a.m.  I managed to dodge social media and ended up falling asleep on the couch before midnight. I woke up in the wee hours of the morning, as one does, and of course the end of the show was on and I found out the end before I watched the show.

As it turns out, I was fine with that when I realized how long show was. There was literally an hour and a half of “will they or won’t they” scenes, sprinkled with scrapbooking or vision board making and I think I saw some Heather and Derek in there as I wore my fast forward button out.

When we finally got the decisions, we were led to believe that it was Tom and Sonia who were having cold feet. Nick and Lilly seemed to be set to stay married.

They started with Nick and Sonia. They both gave a long rambling speech that wasn’t exactly all love and unicorns. Nick went first and said yes.  Sonia seems like she was planning to say she wanted a divorce, and changed her mind at the last-minute. Nick seemed relieved. On one of the after shows, it seems like Sonia was irritated because Nick didn’t reach out to hang out with her much at all during the last week. Gee, Sonia. could that be because you moved out of the house and refused to come back?  If you tell a guy like Nick that you need space, he’s going to give you space. He’s not going to pester you to come home all day every day.

At any rate, Nick and Sonia decided to stay married. At least for a while. The reunion airs next week and the big tease is that Nick is not wearing his ring. Sonia is crying and it doesn’t seem like wedded bliss.

The last couple to decide was Lilly and Tom.  Lilly’s speech sounded exactly like a break up.  You know how on The Bachelor they say all these nice things to both ladies but the speech to the one getting dumped has a BUT in it. I was waiting for the “But” and it came. Then somehow she says she wants to stay married. Then Tom did his dramatic acting giving a long speech about how hard this was for him because Lilly was a good person.  I only saw the speeches today and was half a sleep when I was spoiled on the ending and I really started to think I dreamt that both couples said yes. The speeches were excruciating and very solemn. All four of them were practically morose.

So we got two out of three this season. Not bad at all. Now we just have to wait for the reunion to see if any of them are still together. What do you think? Were you surprised they stayed together?

EDITED! SPOILER ALERT! Derek just posted this photo on Twitter!

Looks like Nick and Sonia are just fine! YAY!

I can’t wait for the show that is filmed in my hometown, Chicago. I tried to talk my 30 year old sister in law to go on the show. Her mother and I both thought it was a good option. It must have lit a fire under her butt cuz she went out and got herself a good guy. I hope it works out for her.

Because God forbid she is thirty and not married. Obviously her only choice is an arranged marriage. WTF.

I was thinking the same thing as you Dancing Matisse. Is it a midwestern thing? Do her uterus and self-worth crawl up and die at 31? I’m confused.

Oh, no need for confusion. Yes Dancer and Kitty, the way you took it is EXACTLY the way I meant it. I don’t know if it’s a midwest thing but here in Chicago, anyone over the age of 30 without a significant other is shot on sight. That’s why our murder rate is the highest of the U.S.

Perhaps the 2 of you should sign up for the show. Each Season needs a “Heather”, a stuck -up, judgmental, humorless, entitled, takes-offensive-where-none-was-meant-jerk . You guys fit the bill perfectly.

This also makes me question again why Lillian went on this show at the age of 24. And Tom, for that matter, who is only 28!

Thanks for the recap TT! You know I have been itching to comment on this one! I was completely shocked when Sonia said she wanted to stay! I think she changed her mind at the last minute also. I have to say, I think of myself as a romantic, but I don’t hink Sonia will get her needs met in this relationship. I really feel like she is settling. Hopefully I am wrong though. Then, I was shocked with Lillian’s speech because it sure sounded like she was giving up! I heard the BUT too! And I was sure Tom wanted a divorce, but he surprised me too. I am really feeling like the editing is set up to make us think a certain way, so that we are shocked at the true results. Just like pointing out that Nick isn’t wearing his wedding ring in the preview for the reunion. I think most of what we see is edited to manipulate the viewers response. I wish there was at least one real reality show!

In a real marriage there is no big reveal with a crazy speech. A real marriage with the support that they have access to would have the couple COMMUNICATING and sharing whether they want to stay married over pillow talk. I hate the big reveal but have loved this show since the 1st season.

I was pleased to see the experts sweat it out until both remaining couples said, “I will stay married.” I think Sonia and Nick are on the right track, and Lilly and Tom always were. Happy endings! I didn’t know reality TV had such a thing!

I think they all were going to say no but the show offered a bonus to say yes since the last 2 seasons didn’t work out. I like the show but this year the episodes are to long and I didn’t care to keep seeing heather and Derek after they quit.

The last half hour was the only thing I watched. The advertisements alone will put you to sleep! It was interesting that Nick had the dog on his lap airkissing the entire time after they got home rather than cuddling with his wife. Disgusting and she is settling if she stays with him. Tom and Lily should date rather than stay married. Maybe they would really get to discover what’s really important to each of them and see how big the compromise would be!

I agree with you on Sonia. I screamed No! when she said she wanted to stay married. I hope she gets out if she hasn’t already. She needs to communicate her needs but I really don’t think Nick can make her happy.

Seeing Heather/Derek after their debacle was annoying. Then after Nick was unnecessarily, mean to Sonia; I called it quits and just read the recap here. I’m surprised reading both couples choose to remain married. Anyway, will be back to read what unfolds at the reunion. Thank you, TT.

This entire season was a yawn for the most part. I am glad it is over. The editing is definitely creating a manufactured viewer opinion. Although I am shocked that Sonia is staying married to this completely immature selfish boring introvert of a “man”, I am not that surprised at Nick’s decision. If they weren’t “married” he would be dumped! That is probably why he went on the show because most women wouldn’t tolerate that sh*t. He is a loser and I hope she realizes before she feels like she is in too deep to run! I really like her, she deserves so much better. Tom and Lily won’t last. Once that sexual chemistry dies down, Tom will head for the hills like all of his previous relationships. He can’t even commit to saying he wants children so that is a huge red flag. Lily is young, she will be fine!

Wow, what an awful thing to say. Nick is a great guy. He loves dogs, his mother, has a job and a financial plan, loves to travel, is cute, has a dry sense of humor and lives near the beach!

Despite the fact that I posted a recent photo of the happy couple at the end of the post, you have a lot of shit to talk.

Also, if you went on this show, don’t you think you would Google to see what everyone is saying about you? Something to think about.

I finally watched this and could come read the recap. The decision portion was so manufactured and scripted for cliff hangers and promos, but that is reality tv.

I think Tom and Lilly have some core things to overcome, but I think that’s years down the road. The fact that he doesn’t want to commit to having kids right now and the fact that she is only 24, hopefully means that they can give themselves the years to see where their marriage takes them.
My husband was the same, “I love kids, maybe some day”. 2 years later: “maybe some day”. Then a few years later we were practically going the infertility intervention route we wanted kids so bad. So it’s weird to me that people automatically think Tom & Lilly’s relationship will fail due to kids and commitment. With love, trust and a good foundation, those things will likely come and if not, they can decide then what to do.

This is my first time commenting on this website and about MAFS. Which I’ve got lots to say & I’ll do my best to give an synopsis of my thoughts.

I cannot wait to see tomorrow’s episode of after 6 months. In my very own opinion (which opinions are like asshole’s, everyones has one) this season I thought was a bit hard to watch. I will admit that I ironically recorded and proceeded to watch it. While having luxury of being able to fast forward through the painful parts. Which segues into my thoughts of MAFS should scratch season 5 and try out the 2nd Chances show. Look at all the orher failed couples from the past season, they need love too. Haha

Seriously, can anyone imagine the scrutiny of cameras constantly around, all the judgement (from watchers, friends, family, etc.) not knowing the person you’re supposed to be with for the rest of your life & making it work with a complete stranger. Not just for the sake of the TV program but for each other. That takes a lot of courage and vulnerability. In my heart of hearts, I truly wish them all the best. Overall, I think these couples should’ve been matched more appropriately.
